(Playfair). 1923 - 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elsie Morell (nee Playfair) in Perth, Ontario, Friday, February 8, 2002. Predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Morell, she will be dearly missed by daughters Susan (Andrew Darcy) of Orleans and Janet (Peter Bernier) of Toronto. Loving Nanny of Erin, Matthew, Daren and Cameron. Predeceased by brother Jack Playfair (Eva) of Creighton, SK. Also mourning our loss are dear sister Olive (George Osiowy) of Cupar, SK, many relatives and special friends including Gordon Graham and Marguerite and Ernie McLaren. Born in Regina, Elsie grew up in southern Saskatchewan. In 1942 she enlisted in the RCAF serving in Trenton until her discharge in 1946. Elsie entered the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Design, where she met her husband, Bill. Following graduation in 1950, Elsie and Bill moved to Toronto, where they were married. In 1953 they relocated to Montreal. After receiving her teaching certificate at Macdonald College, Elsie began her teaching career spending 15 rewarding years at Mountainview Elementary School in Otterburn Heights. She retired in 1984 and later moved to Perth, Ontario where she and Bill enjoyed entertaining friends, pursuing hobbies, golfing and travel. A Memorial Service will be held at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue, at Richmond Road, Ottawa, Friday, February 15, 2002 at 12:00 p.m. A reception will follow. At Guelph General Hospital on Sunday, February 10, 2002, at the age of 73. Carl is survived by his wife June, by his children Carrie of London, England and Matthew and his wife Emily of Toronto, by his grandchildren Robert and Claire, and by his step-children, Chris Zakrzewski of Ottawa, and Peter Zakrzewski of Toronto. He was predeceased by his sister George Baker. Carl was the National Secretary of the C.C.F. from 1958 and a founding member of the New Democratic Party in 1961. He was a member of Guelph City Council from 1970-1993 and practiced law in Guelph for 35 years. Carl's spirit and positive attitude always overshadowed the cancer. Dear brother of Frank Chenier of Iroquois and Norma Barnes (late Robert) of Luskville, P.Q. Predeceased by a brother, Jack and sisters, Marjorie Niles and Leona McGarvey. Brother-in-law of Jean Chenier of Brockville. Grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 2.
