Passed away, peacefully, at the Ottawa General Hospital, in his 90th year, on Thursday, November 22, 2001 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer Disease. Julius was a loving husband of almost 60 years to Fanny Gosevitz, father to Leah Klein of Montreal and Dr. Bernie Gosevitz of Toronto. Father-in-law to Ronnie Klein and Susan Gosevitz. Loving grandfather to Shelly and Michael Klein of Montreal and Sarah, Rebecca, Shauna and Rachel Gosevitz of Toronto. During W.W.II he served with distinction in Europe with the Canadian Army, returning after peace was declared. Julius, a championship chess player, had a grocery store for many years on Bank Street, Ottawa, known as the Empire Fruit Store. Following that he joined the Corp of Commissionaires and served his country for many more years. He was kind and gentle and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Funeral Services to be held at the Jewish Community Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue, Ottawa, on Sunday, November 25, 2001 at 2 p.m. Interment Jewish Community Cemetery, Bank Street. BROCHU Rose Lapointe (Scott) Au CHSLD de Sainte-Hénédine, le 22 novembre 2001, à l’âge de 90 ans et 5 mois, est décédée dame Rose Lapointe, épouse de feu Joseph Brochu. Elle demeurait au CHSLD de Sainte-Hénédine, autrefois au Manoir Centre-Ville de Sainte-Marie de Beauce. La famille recevra les condoléances à la salle Saint-Maxime Place de l’Église 253, rte Kennedy Scott dimanche de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 22h, et lundi, jour des funérailles, à compter de 9h30. Le service religieux sera célébré le lundi 26 novembre 2001 à 11h en l’église Saint-Maxime de Scott, et de là au cimetière paroissial. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa fille Josette, son ami François Bourassa et ses petits-enfants: Marie-Claude Gagnon, son ami Pascal Pouliot et Jean-Simon Bourassa. Elle était la soeur et belle-soeur de feu Auréna Lapointe (feu Albert Brochu), feu Aurore Lapointe (feu Placide Fortier), Simonne Lapointe (feu Euclide Normand), feu Arthur Lapointe (Aline Gagné), feu Rosaire Lapointe (Agathe Roy), Irène Brochu (feu Émile Blais). Elle laisse également dans le deuil de nombreux neveux et nièces des familles Lapointe, Brochu, Dumas, Blais, Hallé, Fortier et Normand, de même que des cousins, cousines et ami(e)s. Dr. died Thursday, November 22, 2001, at the age of 92. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, of Surrey, B.C.; his daughter, Ruth Annis and husband Andy Wachtel, Twila and Robin of Coquitlam, B.C.; his son Bob Annis and wife Mary, Jennifer and Fiona of Brandon, Manitoba; his daughter, Mary McPhee and husband Doug and Colin of Duncan, B.C.; and his sister, Evelyn Annis of Peterborough, Ontario. Dad grew up on a farm near Pickering, Ontario, his family roots going back to the early settlers. He rode a horse to a one-room schoolhouse ten miles away, and went on to earn a B.A. and M.A. from University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University. He was a Fellow at the Brookings Institute. In 1937, he joined the Federal Department of Finance in Ottawa, which he served until his retirement in 1975, many of those years as Director of Tariffs and Trade. He chaired several national boards. Involved in international trade negotiations, he had appointments to Washington, D.C. in the 1950s, and Geneva, Switzerland in the 1960s. Dad was modest and soft-spoken. He instilled in his children a strong sense of moral and social responsibility. He was devoted to his family, his community, and his country. His was a life well lived.
