It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Alexander Steele Campbell at Arnprior, Ontario on Saturday, November 17, 2001 at the age of 90 years. Steele was the dearly loved father of Neil Campbell (wife Judy Forrest) and the proud and loving grandpa of Steele Forrest Campbell. Steele was predeceased by the love of his life, his beautiful and gracious wife of 51 years Dorothy Elizabeth (Jamieson) and by his dearly loved daughter Susan Jane Pieklik and her husband Robert Pieklik. He was also predeceased by his father Neil Campbell and his mother Mary Jessie Campbell, brother Alan Campbell and sister Katherine Isbestier (Jim). He is also survived by sister Natalie Campbell, sisters-in-law Doris Campbell and Isabelle McGill, nephew Craig Campbell (Julie) and niece Stephanie Fox (Doug). Steele was born in Almonte, Ontario on June 19, 1911. He received his education at Arnprior High School and Upper Canada College. Steele contributed his considerable talents, his time and his energy across a broad range of interests. He was strongly devoted to his family, he was a loving husband and a wonderful father. Steele was recognized for his business he developed over a career in the insurance industry that spanned 57 year. He employed his talents and his extensive knowledge of the industry in looking after the insurance needs of those responsible for retail and wholesale businesses, feed and seed companies, construction companies, trucking firms, lumber mills, woolen mills, mining and manufacturing plants and aluminum smelters, school boards, personal lines and much more. Steele put together an unexcelled office staff and together they provided service of the highest standard. He earned the respect of his very able and loyal staff. He inspired confidence in his clients and was known as a man of the highest integrity by members of his profession. He built Neil Campbell Ltd. into a large and respected insurance agency based in Arnprior and started Neil Campbell Toronto Ltd. in 1953. Both businesses have since been sold. Steele loved his work. He especially enjoyed the friendships and interactions with the many interesting individuals he met through his work. Steele was a life member of the Ontario Insurance Agents and Brokers Association. In his community, Steele was at various times Secretary and President of the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital and life-time Director of that hospital. He was a town councillor for 7 years, Reeve of Arnprior and a member of the Renfrew County Council. He served for 15 years on the Arnprior Library Board. He served on the management board of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Steele was President of the Arnprior Lion's Club. He was President and Secretary Treasure at different times of the Arnprior Curling and Golf Club and honourary life member of both. Steele gained great pleasure from curling and playing golf. Both from the games themselves and the friendships formed and enjoyed. He was a curler of repute. He skipped his rink to several club championships and won his share of competitions at both district and provincial levels. He was a member of the Governor General's Curling Club. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Lynne Briscoe for the exceptional care she provided over the past 7 years always with affection and humour. Passed away in Montreal on Monday, November 12, 2001 in the Montreal General Hospital at the age of ninety-two years, after a brief illness. Born in Toronto, she was the daughter of the late John and Harriet Locock. She, with her husband, began their early family years together in Toronto, moving to Montreal in 1950. Her life was filled with her family, including many nieces and nephews, and supporting her husband's many interests and activities. Her own special interests and work were directed towards the United Nations Association, Home and School Associations and her local United Church. She is survived by her husband Ted O'Neill, daughters Marilyn Harrison (Reid) of Nova Scotia, Linda O'Neill (Allan Smith) of Hemmingford, sister Winnifred Browning of Toronto, grandchildren David Harrison of Ottawa, Janet Harrison of Dartmouth, Meghan Sanders, Julie Sanders of Victoria and three great-grandchildren William Harrison of Ottawa, Lauren and Julie Dessureault of Dartmouth. She was predeceased by sisters Lillian, Florence, Doris, Mildred (in infancy), and brother Herbert. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jennifer Foley (Paul), Cambridge, Michael Roffey, Richmond Hill, Elizabeth Roffey (Ryan), Kingston, Krystle Diotte and Candice Diotte of Calgary, Marlee Foster and Matthew Foster of Pickering. Predeceased by his parents and his brother Albert Charles Roffey and Margaret Roffey (Bruce) and Albert (Ace) and predeceased by his mother-in-law Louise Lacasse and brother-in-law Raymond Lacasse. Fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Sid Lacasse (Denise) of Ottawa and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Township Chapel of the Gordon F. The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside, P.E.I., after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, October 25, 2001 at age 51. Lovingly remembered by her mother Velma Bernard, her husband Roel Bakker, her children Krista Bakker (fiance Cameron Ferguson) and Vanessa Bakker and several nieces and nephews. Survived by her brothers Terry (Pauline) Bernard and Fred Bernard and her sister-in-law Cathy Bernard. Predeceased by her father Cyril Bernard and her brother Blair Bernard. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society appreciated. After cremation a memorial service was held at The East Prince Funeral Home in Summerside, P.E.I. on October 31, 2001.
