1934-2001 Avec le plus grand des courages, le 4 novembre 2001, Mme Lise Choquette- Dumont a quitté la terre dans la sérénité entourée de l’amour des siens pour aller rejoindre les anges dont son fils Pierre qu’elle aimait tendrement. De sa nouvelle demeure, elle pourra veiller de haut sur ceux qui comptaient dans sa vie: son mari Victor Dumont, ses enfants Christian, Sophie, Nadia et Anic, ses belles-filles Henriette et Johanne, ses gendres François, Pierre et Alain, et particulièrement ses petits-enfants d’amour Guillaume, Emmy, Sandy, Simon , Erika, Marina, Julien, Sabrina, Hugo et Philippe. Eve Of Red Deer, Alberta formerly of Ottawa, passed away at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Friday, November 9, 2001 at the age of 81 years. Claire was born at Cumberland, Ontario on January 1, 1920. She moved to Red Deer 15 years ago to be close to family. She is survived by her son and daughter, Peter McKlusky and his wife Dianne of Red Deer, and Carole Anne Pond and her husband Norman of Whitby, Ontario; four grandsons, Mark McKlusky and his fiancee Joan and Scott McKlusky and his wife Jana of Red Deer, Todd Munn and his wife Jennifer and Blair Munn and his fiancee Jeannine of Toronto; three great-grandchildren, Nicole, Brooke and Jacob and his mother Shelly. She is also survived by her brother Maurice (Dorothy) Moreau of Nepean, Ontario. She was predeceased by her first husband Joseph McKlusky (1978) and her second husband Major Joseph P. Ward (1999). WILLIAM EDWARD “BILLY” BRIGHAM William Edward “Billy” Brigham, 66, of Winnipeg, Man., passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001 at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. He was born Sept. 3, 1935 in Emo, Ont. to the late Charles and Flora Brigham. Billy attended the School for the Deaf in Belleville, Ont. until he was 17. He later moved to Toronto at the age of 40 and began working as a mail sorter for Canada Post. He worked there for eight years until moving to Winnipeg, where he continued to work for Canada Post. He was a member of the Heritage Club through Canada Post, and also was a member of the Manitoba Foundation for the Deaf. He was a people person and had made many friends throughout his life. He enjoyed visiting and spending time with his family, including his many nieces and nephews. He loved children, and was especially fond of babies. Billy is survived by his eight sisters, Ruby McDonald of Emo, Ont., Shirley King and Leila (Marvin) Hele, all of Fort Frances, Ont., Elsie Skinner, Pat (Ken) McDonald, and Evelyn (Herman) Loveday, all of Emo, Ont., Lucille (Joe) Cayou of International Falls, Mn., and Sylvia Hyatt and friend, Tim Roe, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and brother, Herb Brigham, of Edmonton, Alta. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Milford and Marvin Brigham; and one sister, Dorothy Wilson. Funeral services were held Wed-nesday, Nov. 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Emo. Rev. Frances Flook officiated, with interment in the Emo Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Loveday, Don Loveday, Andy Brigham, Bruce Brigham, Brad Hyatt, and Brent Hyatt. In memoriam donations may be made to the Emo Hospital Memo-rial Fund, 260 Front St., Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.

Funeral services for Constance Lake resident Virginia (nee Taylor) Ferris, 55, of 8 Machitch St. were held Nov. 8, 2001 at the community. She died Nov. 5 at Notre-Dame Hospital after an illnes. Born March 26, 1946 in the Pagwa/English River Post area, she enjoyed hunting, berrypicking, sewing, baking, and studying the Bible. Her mother Lydia Achneepineskum died in 1996 and mother-in-law Margaret Ferris in mid-July 2001. She leaves her husband Harvey Ferris of Constance Lake, and sons Deon (Jennifer) Peters of Ogoki Post, and Clifford (Agnes) Ferris and Harvey (Rosanna) Ferris Jr, all of Constance Lake. Also surviving are her sisters Charlotte Funnell, Ida Sutherland, Betty Achneepineskum and Lilian Achneepineskum of Toronto, brothers Eddy, David Paul, Sam and Albert Achneepineskum, and grandchildren Brandon Chum, Faith Wesley, Christine Peters, Jared Peters, Gwendolyn Peunish and Gavin Ferris. Rev. Douglas Richardson officiated the service at St. Stephen's Anglican Church. Interment followed at the Constance Lake burial grounds.

Funeral services for longtime Hearst resident and retired mechanic Lawrence Ernest Dubé, 82, of 1121 George St were held Nov. 12, 2001. He died Nov. 10 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a short bout with lung cancer. Born June 4, 1919 in Haileybury, he was raised in Hearst where he worked for a wholesaler and then as a truckdriver, mechanic for a garage and then the provincial highways department before, Spruce Motors in Kapuskasing, and Jos Vaillancourt dealership (now Hearst Central Garage) in Hearst. While on vacation in 1967, he signed on with International Harvester in Chatham where he specialized in transmissions, transport differentials and motors. After retiring in 1984, he returned to Hearst. In Hearst, he sometimes transported cadavers from the Salon Lafrance Funeral Home for cremation in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. Prior to the Second World War, he worked at the U.S. Gander Base in Labrador. Later drafted into the Canadian Army, he was stationed in Holland with the Tank Corps during the Dutch Liberation. A volunteer firefighter for some 20 years until 1967, he was a third-degree Hearst Knight of Columbus and Branch 173 Hearst Legion member. An avid local history buff and quick wit who was always joking, he enjoyed visiting relatives, travelling, and visiting the ill. After taking up swimming at the municipal pool, he learned that Rev. Jean-Marc Pelletier and a Sister were also regulars there, and so would joke that he was "swimming in Holy Water". A regular among the early-morning McDonald's coffee gang, he and chum René Lacroix (also recently deceased) would then tour the town daily by vehicle and drop in on Nick's Welding and fellow retirees Paul Lavoie and Raoul Trudel (since deceased). His father Ernest Dubé died in 1947, his mother Lucina Charbonneau in 1981, father-in-law Théophile Jolin in 1966, mother-in-law Clara nee Pelchat Jolin in 1973, brother-in-law Jean-Pierre Aubin of Gloucester, earlier this year, son-in-law Paul Caron in 1994, grandson Marco Caron in 1989, brothers-in-law Emile Jolin, Albert Jolin and George Jolin, and sisters-in-law Rose-Hélène Bouchard and Aurore Bouchard. He leaves his wife Alberta (née Jolin) Dubé of Hearst, a son Claude (companion Jeanne) Dubé of Timmins, daughters Diane Caron and Gloria (Jos) Santerre, all of Hearst, Lorraine (Denis) Audet of Kapuskasing and Rosanne (James) Perry of Appin, Ont. Also surviving are a sister Gloria Aubin of Gloucester, granddaughters Jocelyne, Chantal, Nathalie, Lina and Sylvie, grandsons Denis, Richard, Andrew and Richard, eight great grandchildren, brother-in-law Roland (Marie) Jolin, sisters-in-law Emma (Gabriel), Rolande (Léopold), and many nieces and nephews. Reverends Rémi Lessard and Pelletier officiated the service at the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral. Interment followed at the Monseigneur Grenier Cemetery. Funeral director was the Salon Lafrance Funeral Home. Legion members held a special service at the Salon, Sunday afternoon, and formed a guard outside the Cathedral following his funeral service.

Charles D'Amours, 6 Winnipeg Street, died at Sensenbrenner Hospital Kapuskasing, on November 12, 2001. He was 78 years old. He was born on April 2, 1923 in Trois Pistoles, Quebec. Mr. D'Amours worked for the Kap PUC as a Lineman. He enjoyed sports, especially hockey and wrestling. He enjoyed feeding the birds and spending time on his pontoon boat. He was an excellent violin player. He is survived by: his wife Hatty; four sons Michael Claude (Yvette) D'Amours of Toronto, Ronald D'Amours of Moonbeam, Patrick Babineau of Ottawa, and Mario (Dyane) Babineau of Gatineau; five daughters Denise (friend Yvon) Lozier of Kap, Julie Babineau of Sydney, Australia, Lise D'Amours of Jasper, Linda (André) Beaudet of Fauquier and Lisette (Paul Gaudreault) Dufour of Russell; two sisters Anne-Marie Pelletier of Trois Pistoles and Jeanne Soucy of Cowansville; one brother Benoit D'Amours of Montreal; and 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Church Thursday Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Gilles Gosselin will performed the service. Interment will take place at the Kapuskasing Cemetery

Robert, beloved husband of Marjorie (nee Fraser); proud father of Cameron Douglas and Hali Catharine Harry-Paul (Raj) of Oakville, Ontario, Patricia Lynn Delano (Wayne) of St. Catharines, Ontario, and Ronald Allen of Burlington, Ontario; doting Grandpa to Rob, Patrick, Alec and Anna. Survived by his brothers Lloyd of Sydney, B.C., and Ronald of Calgary, Alberta; Aunt Olga Weinmaster (Eric) of Calgary, Alberta; sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews across Canada. Born in Winnipeg on December 13th, 1933, Bob's working life as a Chartered Accountant included ownership and co-ownership of several businesses there, long-time employment at Air Canada in Winnipeg and Montreal, Senior Financial Consultant to Transport Canada in Ottawa, and lengthy employment as the Senior Financial Officer in several divisions of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) in Ottawa, Kanata, Mississauga and Rockville, MD. Bob retired as Vice President Finance and Administration of AECL's Candu Operations Division (Mississauga, Ontario) and AECL Technologies Inc. (Rockville, MD, USA) in 1994. His community activities included President of Chartered Accounts Students' Society, Member of West St. Paul Home and School Association, affiliation with community soccer clubs in Beaconsfield, PQ and Ottawa, President of Oakville/Burlington A.L.S. Chapter (Lou Gehrig Disease), local canvasser for Canadian Cancer Society, President of Tyandaga Oaks Condominium Corp., and more than ten years as a member of the Erin Mills Model Railroad Assocation. Bob and his brothers had a keen interest in music, fostered by their late parents and which has been carried on through sponsorship of a Scholarship at the Royal Conservatory of Music for the past 20 years. Thank you to the doctors and staff at the Toronto General and Princess Margaret Hospitals for their kind efforts. A special thank you to those at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital who helped Bob and his family through his final hours, and to Dr. G. Skupsky, who provided family care and support for over 20 years. Passed away at his home in Greenfield Park in his eighty-eighth year on November 10, 2001, husband of the late Doris Batiste and long time companion of Eileen Powell, father of Patricia and Jacklyn (Jackie) and predeceased by Sandra. Irving will be dearly missed by his brother Angus, sisters Anne (Don Bennett) and Kathleen (Warren Whitehouse), as well as his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Ethel and brothers Roy and Cecil. A Second World War Veteran serving overseas in Gt. Britain and Europe, he became a prisoner of war while serving in France. Irving was a long time member of the Royal Montreal Regiment and also of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #94 in Greenfield Park. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Birch and Green, St. Lambert. The Legion Service will commence at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service. Ernst Goetze January 28, 1916 - November 13, 2001 Funeral arrangements by Sherrin Funeral Home Peacefully after a brief illness at Scarborough Hospital, on Tuesday November 13, 2001, in his 86th year. A child of one war, and a brilliant student, he fought only for his life in the love of Elisabeth (nee Jabelmann, pre-deceased), and became a much decorated hero in another man’s war of which he respected no part and wanted none. In peace a determined man, he was a devoted and loving husband to Elisabeth; father to Ernst, Annegret and Hans; father-in-law to Peter Colquhoun and Beth Russell; dear Opa for Andrew and Hester, Michael and Pamela, David, Alexis, Hart, Megan, Abby and Elyse. Caring and cherished, friend and brother-in-law to Werner, Ewald and Kurt Jabelmann, ttheir loves and children; Onkel for Karl-Heinz, Bernhardt, Richard and Wilma, their loves and children. He was a steadfast friend to those who would honour and cherish life. Joy in life and creative achievements were his aim. During the Second World War, Ken was a Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Signals. He was stationed in Kingston and saw action in Italy. Ken is survived by his first wife Mary (Yarrill) and 3 children: David and his wife Wilma of Mississauga; Ann and her husband Steve Lukits of Kingston; and John and his wife Shelley of Saint John, New Brunswick. DFC, CD Wing Commander At the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre on Sunday, November 11, 2001, Gordon Avent in his 86th year. Son of the late Halse Avent and Dorothy Bevan. Beloved husband of the late Helen Horn. Loving father of Catherine Sullivan, James (Elizabeth) and the late Mary. Will be sadly missed by grandchildren Amanda Lavictoire (Todd), Michael and Thomas Sullivan and Stephen, Shannon and Kaytlin Avent. Dear brother of Barbara Randall of Toronto and predeceased by his sister Katie Budd. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born in Winnipeg and educated at St. John's College and the University of Manitoba, Gordon enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in September 1940 and served as a bomber pilot in the Middle East until 1944. He was awarded a distinguished flying cross in 1943. After W.W. II he served in the R.C.A.F. at Moncton, London, England, Germany, Trenton, Winnipeg and Ottawa ending his 24 year military career as Commanding Officer at CFB Rockcliffe in 1964. Gordon retired from his second career at Parks Canada in 1980. He and Helen enjoyed his retirement with golf, bridge, curling, wine tours and an active social life.
