Passed away peacefully in her ninety-second year at St. Joseph's Hospital on June 14, 2001 from heart failure. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Reginald Stevenson. Always a loving mother, she was predeceased by son Philip, and daughter Judith and is survived by three sons, Kenneth of Vancouver, Donald of Montreal and John in Toronto and many beloved grandchildren. Having settled in Montreal, followed by many wonderful years in St. Andrews East, Que., she subsequently retired to Toronto. Courageuse petite Hélène, tu nous laisses l’exemple d’une femme bonne, tenace, persévérante, intègre et empreinte d’une grande sérénité. Merci pour ce bel héritage. He is survived by his four grandchildren, Wendy, Jeff, Mike and Katherine; and step-grandchildren, Mac, Ali and Kent. A special so long to all his wonderful friends at McDonald's and Burger King in the Ogilvie and Montreal Road area. Gord has donated his body for education and research purposes. Dr. Munro Beattie died June 18, 2001 of an aneurysm, in Ottawa Hospital, aged 89 years. Professor Emeritus and former Chair, Department of English, Carleton University, he was the son of Lewis and Bessie Beattie, a proud brother to Stan, Clarke and Betty (Ault). Predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 hears, May (Lishman) and their son Christopher. Survived by step-mother Marg Beattie, brother-in-law Sam Ault, son Richard, Chris' widow Judy, granddaughter Janet and great-granddaugher Amaya. Special thanks go to his devoted caregivers Tsehay, C.J. and Allan. Across six decades, Munro was an inspirational teacher to generations of Ottawa students and a seminal force in building Carleton's English Department. Died June 19, 2001 at Brockville, Ontario at the age of 80. Born in Toronto, she was the daughter of the late William James and Lily (Clarke) Guscott. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving her are her husband Janos Karoly (John Charles); daughter Anna Katherine Sipos and her partner Douglas R. S. Jacques, Ottawa; son John Anthony and his wife Melissa Sanford, Maitland, Nova Scotia; grandchildren Susan and Samuel Sipos and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by brothers-in-law George Barrett, Charlottetown, Dr. Louis Sipos, Brockville and sister-in-law Winnifred Guscott, Toronto. Predeceased by brother Tom and sister Minnie Barrett. Lily was proud to be a Life Member of both the H.M.S. Alderney Chapter of the I.O.D.E. and the I.O.D.E. Provincial Chapter of Nova Scotia. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville. There will be no visitation or service by request. Ashes will be buried at a later date. CLARA HAMILTON Clara Hamilton, 89, of Woodyatt, Ont., passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. Clara was born Feb. 26, 1912 in Arbakka, Man. to the late Charles and Carrie Whitehead. Clara moved to the Woodyatt area around 1920 with her father and siblings. She was united in marriage Dec. 3, 1930 to the late William (Bill) Hamilton, who predeceased her Oct. 18, 1990. Clara and Bill made their home on the Hamilton farm in Woodyatt, where she remained until her passing. Clara was an avid gardener who took great pride and pleasure in her flowers. Her fondest pastimes were the family gatherings where everyone took turns at a hand of cards in her favourite game, 500, and watching birds flock to her feeders outside her livingroom window. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by two sons, David and wife, Darlene, of Devlin, Ont., and Bruce and wife, Lynn, of Fort Frances, Ont.; one daughter, Norma and husband, Frank Lundy, of Thunder Bay, Ont.; one daughter-in-law, Carol Hamilton of Winnipeg, Man.; 11 grandchildren, Garry Lundy, Ann Gill, Shawn Hamilton, Jennifer Biasiol, Douglas Lundy, Debbie Schaum, William (Billy) Hamilton, Laura Hamilton, Cheryl McEvoy, Valerie Hamilton, and Justin Hamilton; and 13 great-grandchildren, Jaclyn and David Gill, Tanna Audette, Tyson Gill, Jessie Schaum, Cailee Lundy, Carly Schaum, Conar Hamilton, Cameron Lundy, Ryhlie Biasiol, Madeleine Hamilton, Ryan Biasiol, and Logan Hamilton. Also surviving is one sister, Ethel and husband, Russell McFarland, of Langley, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clara was predeceased by one grandson, Gordon Hamilton on Oct. 3, 1985; brothers, Aaron, Henry, Benjamin, and infant brother, Dearius; and her sister, Ella Hyatt. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Frances Flook officiated, with interment in the Emo Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Garry Lundy, Doug Lundy, Shawn Hamilton, Billy Hamilton, and Justin Hamilton, grandson-in-law, Carl Schaum, and granddaughters, Ann Gill, Jennifer Biasiol, Debbie Schaum, Laura Hamilton, Cheryl McEvoy, and Valerie Hamilton. Cathy spent most of her career at the Scarborough School Board as a psychologist after winning her Doctorate from the University of Toronto in 1985. Following her retirement, she conducted a private practice in Yorkville. Blessed with enormous curiosity and creative talent, she was also an illustrator/author ('Sammy Sitstill', a book for children with ADD), an amateur inventor, a very accomplished seamstress with a passion for all things mechanical. She is survived by her husband Derek, son Sean Thompson, parents Joan and Alex Billyard (Welland) and brothers Gary (Ottawa) Allan and Sandy (Fonthill). A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday June 28, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. at the Eglington St. George's United Church 35 Lytton Blvd., Toronto (1 block west of Young, between Eglington and Lawrence).
