Died peacefully in Victoria on May 18, 2001. Al was born in Vancouver in 1929. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 41 years Lawrie, his beloved daughters and their husbands Sally and Frank Balazas, Ellen and Charles Kierulf and his adored grandchildren Nicholas and Emma Balazas and Alastair and Gavin Kierulf. He also leaves his brothers Bill (Shirley) of Vancouver and Don (Mary) of Vernon, close friends Sally and Alex McAuley, and Marga and Ernst Von Rudloff, as well as many cousins, friends and colleagues throughout Canada. Al was respected internationally as a biochemist, his work being done at the National Research Council in Ottawa and the University of Victoria, where he was Dean of Science for a number of years. In 1984 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. For the past 20 years he has served as an Elder in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Victoria. On retirement he discovered the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club where he made many wonderful friends. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. Many thanks from the family to Dr. McNaughton, the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Clinic, the Palliative Care unit and the nursing staff on Area C Jubilee Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined. He died suddenly in Lachine at Centre Hopitalier de Lachine on Sunday, April 22, 2001, following a lengthy illness. Born in Montreal on June 8, 1946 to Hugh and Gertrude Thompson, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Michael Hubert, his grandchildren Anita, Emilly and Nicholas, his brother Douglas, his brother and sister-in-law George and Paula, his sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Fred Kirby and his sister and brother-in-law Una and Pierre Lowenberg. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 377 44th Avenue, Lachine on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 1 p.m. His friends and family will remember him for his strength and determination and in how he continued on with life in spite of all. Tony was born in the Netherlands, moving to Canada with his parents in 1950. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1960 with a degree in electrical engineering where he proceeded with a careers of 25 years in the mining industry in Flin Flon, MB and Toronto. He followed with 10 years on the management team of Atomic Energy Canada. He was a member of I.E.E.E. & Professional Engineering of Ontario. Tony, Neta and children moved to Gananoque in 1986 and Tony has spent the past five years actively involved in the life and community of Gananoque with the Gananoque 1000 Islands Chamber, Gananoque Rotary Club and enjoyed life to the fullest operating his home as a bed and breakfast. Suddenly at his home in Gananoque on Thursday, May 24, 2001. Beloved husband of Neta. Dear father of David and Laurel (Ron Aylward) and loving grandfather of MacKenzie de Vette Aylward. Also survived by his sister Jannie Scriabin (Michael) of the Netherlands. Tony will be sadly missed by all the Sadler families, who were so close to him. Entrusted to the care of the K.W. Elle demeurait à Beauport, quartier Ste- Thérèse-de-Lisieux. CSJ (Sister Rose Mary McGaghran) Sister Kevin McGaghran passed away quietly into her eternal rest at St. Joseph's Motherhouse on Wednesday, May 23, 2001. Sister Kevin entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke on September 4, 1939. She was in the 62nd year of her religious life. Left to mourn her loss are her sisters in the Congregation, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins, as well as many friends in the following areas where she ministered as a teacher, principal, sacristan and visitor to the sick and infirmed from 1939 to 1999: Pembroke, Mount St. Patrick, Calabogie, Chapeau, Deep River, Quyon, Campbell's Bay and Barry's Bay. Sister came to the Motherhouse in October of 1999 and enjoyed her retirement after ministering to the people of Barry's Bay for a period of 30 uninterrupted years. Sister was always young at heart. She loved going home to Pine Valley for summer holidays and playing cards. Sister Kevin was born in Douglas, ON, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Agnew. She is predeceased by her sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bedard, Mrs. Florence Wren and two Pembroke Sisters of St. Joseph - Sister St. Michael (Anna) and Sister St. Thomas (Mary). Resting at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, Pembroke, after 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2001. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, May 26th, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel. August 4, 1929 - May 24, 2001 David L. Rowat, of Ottawa, passed away on May 24th after a lengthy battle with kidney failure and Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; children David, Marnie, Robert and Stephen and sister Jean Birch. He will be dearly missed by his life-long friends Enid and Paul Xhignesse. David's academic achievements include the Quebec Provincial Silver Medal, B.Sc. (Bishop's University), Governor General's prize for academic excellence, M.Sc. (McMaster); MBA (Ottawa U). While at McMaster, David met Dorothy, whom he married in 1953. David's career in the public service of Canada spanned 36 years (AECL, MOSST, DFO). David's hobbies included cross-country skiing and woodworking.
