At Eastholme, Home for the Aged, Powassan, on Wednesday, May 23, 2001. Hazel Eliza Kerrison Fowler, beloved wife of the late William Clifton Shepherd in her 94th year. The beloved daughter of the late Edward and Jane Fowler, Hazel is predeceased by her sisters Vera Burke and Dorothy Fowler. Loving aunt of Gary Burke and his wife Coreen of Kanata, and dear cousin of Bill Brownlee and his wife Doris Rae of North Bay. Born in Montreal in 1907, Hazel and her late husband had been residents of Ottawa since 1949. Her working career was spent with the A.W. Crawfford Co. William predeceased her in 1983, and in 1998 Hazel moved to North Bay to be closer to family. At her request no visitation. Cremation to take place. A graveside committal service will be held in North Bay Union Cemetery on Wednesday, May 30th at 1:00 p.m. Donations to the Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. CSJ (Sister Rose Mary McGaghran) Sister Kevin McGaghran passed away quietly into her eternal rest at St. Joseph's Motherhouse on Wednesday, May 23, 2001. Sister Kevin entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Pembroke on September 4, 1939. She was in the 62nd year of her religious life. Left to mourn her loss are her sisters in the Congregation, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins, as well as many friends in the following areas where she ministered as a teacher, principal, sacristan and visitor to the sick and infirmed from 1939 to 1999: Pembroke, Mount St. Patrick, Calabogie, Chapeau, Deep River, Quyon, Campbell's Bay and Barry's Bay. Sister came to the Motherhouse in October of 1999 and enjoyed her retirement after ministering to the people of Barry's Bay for a period of 30 uninterrupted years. Sister was always young at heart. She loved going home to Pine Valley for summer holidays and playing cards. Sister Kevin was born in Douglas, ON, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Agnew. She is predeceased by her sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bedard, Mrs. Florence Wren and two Pembroke Sisters of St. Joseph - Sister St. Michael (Anna) and Sister St. Thomas (Mary). (Nutritionniste et sculpteur) 1920 - 2000 Le 26 décembre 2000, à l’unité des soins palliatifs du Centre hospitalier Élisabeth Bruyère (Ottawa), est décédée Dolorès Michaud, fille de G.W. Michaud et d’Hermance Soucy de Sainte-Anne-de-la- Pocatière. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Marie-Carmel, ses bellessoeurs Adèle (Jean- Berchmans) et Thérèse (Laurent-Justinien), ainsi que ses neveux et nièces. Bachelière ès sciences (Université Mont-Saint- Vincent, Halifax), elle fut boursière de la Fondation Rockefeller pendant ses études à l’Université Columbia (New York) où elle compléta une maîtrise en nutrition en 1948. Au début de sa carrière, elle oeuvra à l’Université de Marseille (France) où, attachée au Service clinique du Professeur Monge, elle participa au démarrage de l’enseignement de la diététique à la Faculté de médecine; elle y agit aussi comme consultante pour l’implantation de la première cuisine diététique de l’Hôpital de la Conception; elle collabora alors avec le Centre d’enseignement féminin La Cadenelle. De 1950 à 1952, elle se consacra à l’administration des cuisines du New England Center Hospital puis du Beth Israel Hospital (Boston). À la Nouvelle-Orléans, le Charity Hospital lui confia la responsabilité d’enseigner la nutrition ciblant les patients cardiaques et diabétiques. En 1954-1955, elle enseigna à l’Université Cornell (Ithaca, N.Y.) où elle fit de la recherche sur l’obésité avec la professeure Charlotte Young. En 1956, la ville d’Ottawa la recrutait pour diriger son service de nutrition, mandat dont elle s’acquitta jusqu’en 1963, année où Santé et Bien-être Canada lui confia un poste d’agent de communication et d’information en diététique, à son Service de bien-être d’urgence. À l’aube de sa retraite en 1976, Dolorès Michaud réalisa le rêve qu’elle caressait depuis l’enfance: devenir sculpteur. Formée à l’atelier des frères Bourgault (Saint-Jean- Port-Joli), elle y fut initiée à la sculpture sur bois par Julien Bourgault. Puis elle vola de ses propres ailes et assura la pérennité de son oeuvre en travaillant le marbre, l’ophite, la labradorite, le liais, etc. Le long labeur de la patine du bronze fut l’une de ses passions et plusieurs de ses sculptures sur pierre furent moulées et coulées en bronze. Elle exposa ses oeuvres dans la région d’Ottawa au cours des années 1980 à 1990. Plusieurs de ses créations enrichissent des collections privées en Europe, aux États-Unis ainsi qu’au Canada. Dolorès Michaud était aussi une mécène. À la mémoire de son père, elle a créé le Fonds Georges Wilfrid (Alfred) Michaud pour soutenir des étudiants en interprétation musicale et la recherche sur l’épilepsie. Le double but du Fonds repose sur le souvenir de son neveu Jean- Pierre Michaud, musicologue diplômé du Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, de l’Université McGill et de l’Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY), qui menait une vie très active malgré l’épilepsie (décédé en 1996). L’Université de Montréal est fiduciaire du Fonds Georges Wilfrid (Alfred) Michaud.

At the Lillooet Hospital, British Columbia, after a short illness, on Sunday, May 6, 2001 in her eighty-sixth year. Only daughter of the late Arthur Truman Clibbon and Bertha Annie Higham of Montreal. Sister of the late Robert T. Clibbon and the late Ross Clibbon. Beloved aunt of Peter Clibbon of Quebec City, Brooke Clibbon of Calgary, Robert Clibbon of Florida, Marianne Falconer of Florida and of the late David Clibbon, great-aunt of ten and great-great-aunt of six. Peggy was born in Montreal in 1914 and was a longtime employee of Domtar at its Montreal head office. On her retirement in 1976 she moved to British Columbia, first to the Vancouver area and subsequently to Lillooet. A memorial service for Peg will take place at St. Michael's Anglican Church in Sillery, Quebec on August 16, 2001. Interment will be in Mount Hermon Cemetery in Sillery, next to her brother Robert. August 4, 1929 - May 24, 2001 David L. Rowat, of Ottawa, passed away on May 24th after a lengthy battle with kidney failure and Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; children David, Marnie, Robert and Stephen and sister Jean Birch. He will be dearly missed by his life-long friends Enid and Paul Xhignesse. David's academic achievements include the Quebec Provincial Silver Medal, B.Sc. (Bishop's University), Governor General's prize for academic excellence, M.Sc. (McMaster); MBA (Ottawa U). While at McMaster, David met Dorothy, whom he married in 1953. David's career in the public service of Canada spanned 36 years (AECL, MOSST, DFO). David's hobbies included cross-country skiing and woodworking. HELMA SOPHIA ANGUS Helma Sophia Angus, 87, of 301-851 Colonization Rd. W., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2T3, passed away at La Verendrye Hospital on Friday, May 25, 2001. Helma was born in Worthington Township, Ont., on Aug. 24, 1913, the third child of Charlie and Tillie Widgren. She was raised in Bergland by her aunt and uncle, Gunnar and Christine Pederson, as her mother passed away when Helma was an infant. She was predeceased by her father in 1963. Helma and Derward Angus were united in marriage on Sept. 7, 1934, and they were happily married for more than 66 years. Together they raised four children. Helma is survived by her loving husband, Derward; daughter, Merle and husband, Alan Warner; and sons, Don and wife, Sharon, and Larry and wife, Bev. She also is survived by her sisters-in-law, Anna Mose, Evelyn Widgren, and Violet Angus; and special sister, Violet Wilson. Surviving grandchildren are Kerry Rosenbarger, Brenda (Dan) Bock, Nancy Miller, Bradley Miller, Wayne (Cheryl) Angus, Lisa (Rob) Armstrong, Mark (Karen) Angus, John (Lisa) Angus, Rodney (Rhondelle) Angus, and Lara Gustafson; and 15 great-grandchildren. Helma was predeceased by her daughter, Marion and husband, Bill Reese; brother, Telford Widgren; sister, Olive and husband, Frank Advent; son-in-law, Bill Miller; brothers-in-law, Ernest Mose, Rollie Hyre, and Leonard Angus; and most recently her sister-in-law, Helen Hyre. Helma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a marvelous cook and homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She loved to dance, and she and Derward attended the senior dance this winter at the train station. She enjoyed playing cards, and many evenings were spent playing 500. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances. Pastor Brian Keffer will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2001.
