Teacher and supervisor of Home Economics with the Ottawa Public Schools for many years, Isabel Thomson McGiffin died at the Ottawa Hospital on Wednesday, May 9, 2001. She was 92. Isabel was the youngest daughter of Richard McGiffin and his wife, Elizabeth White. She was predeceased by her brothers Stuart and Alan and her sisters Jessie Cowan and Kathleen Pennock. She was the much loved aunt of her nephew Richard and nieces Eleanor White, Kathleen Satchell, Mary Jones and Margaret Heilig. Her many great and great-great nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States looked up to her, and adored her. Isabel also had great affection for her cousins Bob McGiffin, John McGiffin and Ann Hobden. She was a life-long and devoted member of Dominion-Chalmers United Church, and its predecessor Bank Street Presbyterian Church. À l’Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, le 10 mai 2001, à l’âge de 93 ans, entourée de l’amour et des soins des siens durant son combat serein contre le cancer, est décédée dame Alberta Bellemare (née Nadeau), épouse de feu M. Louis-Joseph Bellemare. Elle demeurait au Manoir Saint- Amand, à Québec. Elle laisse pour la pleurer ses trois fils: André, journaliste au quotidien Le Soleil (Micheline Magny), Pierre (Pierrette Richard) et Claude, ainsi que ses petits- fils Jean-François, Frédéric et Patrick et ses arrière-petits-enfants Kevin et Kelsey. Elle laisse de plus dans le deuil sa soeur Isabelle (feu Gérald Sénécal), ses bellessoeurs: Éliane Béland (feu Roméo Bellemare), Claire Leblanc (feu Édouard Bellemare), Soeur Thérèse Bellemare des Soeurs de la Providence, Suzanne Bellemare (feu Guy Lafrenière), Madeleine Bellemare et Florence Bellemare (feu Reynald Massé), puis de nombreux cousins et cousines, neveux et nièces, ami(e)s. Selon la volonté de la défunte, sa dépouille ne sera pas exposée; elle sera inhumée au cimetière Belmont par Lépine Cloutier Des obsèques religieuses auront lieu à 14h, le lundi 14 mai, dans l’église de la paroisse Sainte-Odile de Québec (avenue Duval et rue des Peupliers Ouest); la famille y accueillera parents et amis une demi-heure avant la cérémonie. La famille de dame Alberta Nadeau Bellemare tient à remercier le personnel du 10e étage de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Québec et celui du Manoir Saint-Amand pour les soins très attentifs qu’ils lui ont prodigués. Un don à la Société canadienne du cancer, en souvenir de la défunte, serait apprécié.

Au Monastère des Rédemptoristes de Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, est décédé, à l’âge de 85 ans, le père Laurent Lévesque. Ordonné prêtre en 1942, il revint à Sherbrooke comme assistant du Maître des Novices. Puis, il se lança dans une carrière missionnaire qui allait durer toute sa vie. Après avoir passé une année au Vietnam, il dut revenir au Canada pour des raisons de santé. Il s’adonna ensuite aux retraites paroissiales, tout en travaillant activement au pèlerinage de Ste- Anne-de-Beaupré. Ses origines américaines lui permirent d’étendre son ministère dans les milieux anglophones, notamment en Nouvelle- Angleterre et à Terre-Neuve. Avec le père Eugène Lefebvre, il fut l’initiateur des Soirées de sainte Anne, qui se poursuivent encore aujourd’hui. Quand le temps le permettait, il allait prêter main forte aux curés, surtout dans l’État du Maine. Il laisse dans le deuil ses sœurs Colombe et Marguerite, sa belle-sœur Marie-Claire, de même qu’un bon nombre de cousins et cousines et de neveux et nièces. Sa dépouille mortelle sera exposée au Monastère des Rédemptoristes, 10018, avenue Royale, Ste-Anne-de- Beaupré, le dimanche 13 mai de 19h à 21h. Ses funérailles seront célébrées en la basilique de Ste-Anne, le lundi 14 mai à 10h. La direction des funérailles a été confiée à La Maison funéraire Nouvelle Ère 10579, boul.
