Died as she lived, with strength and dignity, on Tuesday, March 27, 2001. Born in Winnipeg on January 16, 1920 to Rose and Issac Kare, of Diamond & Kare, the largest horse dealer in Canada. The eldest of five siblings: Dr. Morley Kare (now deceased) (widow, Carol, of San Francisco); Vera (Dr. Max Vogel) of Calgary, Samuel (Margie) of Vancouver and Lovee (Hy Kliman) of Jacksonville, Fla. After graduating from the first Interior Design Class at the University of Manitoba, she settled in Montreal where she became a well known interior designer. An ardent feminist as well as an entrepreneur, artist and the late of her generation of Robacks, she is predeceased by her husband, Joe Roback. Deeply mourned by her children: Gordon (Vancouver), Hal (Jennifer) of Toronto and Mrs. Karen Williamson (Dan) of Delta. Also survived by grandchildren Chad, Jarred, Joseph, Nathanial (Al), Jerry, Ben and Mardi as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial Service to be announced. (nee Muir). Passed away peacefully on March 31, 2001 at Agape Manor Hospice, Calgary, AB, after a brave battle with leukaemia. She is survived by her husband and best friend of fifty-nine years, Bill Harland; her daughter Sandra (Dave) Wattling of Calgary, AB; and her son Sydney (Betty) Harland of Burlington, Ont. She will also be lovingly rememberd by her grandchildren, Bill Wattling of Calgary, Michael Harland and Betty-Anne Harland of Burlington, Ont. Margaret was born on December 12, 1919, in Montreal, Que; she married Bill Harland in August 1942. Margaret was a wonderful and caring wife and mother, a quiet, gentle and kind soul who gave unselfishly of herself and always put her family first. The family would like to express their thanks to the palliative homecare team, Fern, Maria, Irene and Terry who guided us through this extremely difficult time and to Dr. Mark Joyce and Dr. Karen Valentine. A very special thank-you to all the staff and volunteers at Agape Manor for the care and love that she received during her last days. There will be no service at Margaret's request. A Veteran of World War II with the Pictou Highlanders, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, North Rustico Branch. Mr., 68, The Ponds, Pictou Co., Nova Scotia, died Thursday, April 05, 2001, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Reuben and Ethel (Hughes) Akwright. Educated in New Glasgow, he achieved his Bachelor of Science in Engineering at St. F.X. and graduated in 1954 in Electrical Engineering from Nova Scotia Technical College (DalTech). He joined the Defence Research Board of National Defence in 1957 in Dartmouth, achieving the position of section leader in the Electrical Lab. He transferred to National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa, as a Scientific Requirements Manager, later returning to Dartmouth in the same capacity. He retired in 1989 to live at The Ponds. Jim was a 51 year member of the Pictou County Amateur Radio Club and was actively involved in The Daily Maritime Weather Net. He loved fly fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing and listening to music, reading and flying kites. Jim was a great man and will be sorely missed. Surviving are his wife, Louise Desjardins; daughter, Sharon (Evan) Kennedy, Hampton, NB; son, James, Fall River; grandchildren, Evan James, Peter; former wife, Mollie (MacLean) Arkwright, Ottawa; sister, Eileen (Donald) MacSween, Sydney; niece, Karen; nephew, Brian; several grandnieces, grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister Beryl Arkwright. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in Trinity United Church, 151 Temperance St., New Glasgow with Rev. Chalmers Hatcher officiating.
