Capt. Edward W. (Ted) WWII Veteran Surrounded by his family on Friday evening, March 16, 2001, peacefully at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, in his 87th year, strong and courageous to the end. Beloved husband of Joan for nearly 59 years. Father of Richard and Wendy (Bennett), father-in-law of Gretel Harmston and Geoff Bennett. Grandfather of Christine and Gesa, and Richard, Andrew and David. Grandfather-in-law of Terrena and great-grandfather of Keegan. Brother of Ginger (deceased) and Alan. Originally of Victoria, B.C., Ted spent a career in the Canadian Army (RCOC), married in England, and raised his family in places across his Canada. Retired in Ottawa for many years, his greatest joy was being with family who, though travelling and living around the globe, always gravitated to "home" with Ted and Joan. Ted's family is grateful for all the support provided by his many caregivers in recent years and the staff of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital in recent days. In accordance with Ted's wishes, cremation took place privately. The family will hold a celebration of Ted's life at a later time. (Jost) Passed away peacefully with her family in her room, on March 17, 2001, after thirty long years of battling courageously with the progressive debilitation of multiple sclerosis. Monnie was born in Guysborough, Nova Scotia on July 21, 1916, the younger of two daughters of Christopher Arnaud Jost and Hattie Maude (Sinclair). She graduated from Acadia University in 1937, and on August 2, 1942 married her college mate, Gordon Tremaine "Trem" Spurr. Together they shared his military and civil service career until his death on February 11, 1982, and they raised two sons, Peter Tremaine and John Christopher. Along the way, Monnie also had several interesting jobs, on prewar Parliament Hill, as assistant to Henry Marshall Tory in foundin Carleton University, and in federal public service security work about which she would never tell anyone. Monnie is survived by her sons and their families. Peter and his wife, Mary Anne (Lighthall), and their sons John Tremaine, Charles Abram and Cameron Heath live in Saanich, British Columbia. John and his wife Heather Anne (McKinnon), and their children Rebecca Anne and Christopher Malcolm live in Orleans. The family thanks the staff of the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, and particularly the people who worked on the Third Floor and made Monnie's life as enjoyable as possible for the last ten years. Q.C. Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 17, 2001 in his 86th year. Jim leaves behind his loving wife Alice (nee Perry), daughters Nancy (Steve), and Lynda (John) and grandchildren Emily, David, Hannah and Rudy. Jim received his call to the Bar in 1947 and practiced law in Ottawa for 42 years. He was the Senior Legal Council in the firm Hall, Ray & Button (formerly Hall & Hall). Jim became a member of the Queen's Counsel in 1968. He was a longtime member of the Laurentian Club, an avid pianist, skier and outdoor enthusiast, and enjoyed summers at Blue Sea Lake, Quebec. The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the Ottawa Community Care Access Centre and members of the Palliative Home Care Team as well as the Palliative Care team led by Dr. Cori Schroder at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre who were so supportive during the final leg of Jim's journey. Also survived by her sisters: Rita (Real Arsenault), Suzanne (Roger Drainville) and Louise (George Cotton); her brother Roland Therrien (Liliane); her aunt Lucille Labonte (Gerard Ouimet); her sisters-in-law: Cecilia (Rene Dee) and Thelma (John Alfonso); her brothers-in-law (Rehel family): Arnold (Huguette), Carl (Frances), David (Maureen) and Gary (Velma), as well as the Ben Slimane family, other relatives and friends. The visitation will take place at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux, on Tuesday, March 20 and Wednesday, March 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Service will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas A Becket Church, 4320 Ste-Anne, Pierrefonds.
