Predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Cecil James Blake and by her sisters, Eva, Marguerite and Florence and her brothers, Maynard and Winston. Lottie is survived by her daughter, Beverly and her husband John Whyte, by her son Jim and his wife Katherine. She will be joyfully remembered by her grandchildren, Matthew and Evan Blake, Peggy (Terry Craig) and Beth (David MacDonald). Lottie rejoiced in her great-grandchildren, Kathleen Craig and Lauren, Blake, Rory and Scott MacDonald. She is survived by her sister-in-law Janet McLeod. Following a brief illness Lloyd passed away on Monday, March 12, 2001 at the age of 85. He will be remembered for a lifetime of devotion to his family and service to his community. Lloyd was educated at Queen's University (B.Comm) and Harvard University (M.B.A.) following which he joined the family business, Larocque Department Store. At the outbreak of WWII he joined the RCAF, where he rose to the rank of Squadron Leader. After the war, he returned to Larocque's, which his father had now entrusted to him and his brother, Nordau. He soon became deeply involved in Community Affairs. He was a member of the Ottawa Board of Trade (Chairman of the Dept. Store Group); Better Business Bureau of Ottawa (President 1965); Kiwanis Club of Ottawa (President 1958 - 1959); Chairman, Community Chest (United Way) Annual Campaign (1957); Director, United Way of Ottawa-Carleton (President 1964 - 1966); founding member, Granite Curling Club of West Ottawa (President 1958 - 1959); member, Governor-General's Curling Club; member, Advisory Vocational Committee of the Ottawa Collegiate Board (1963 - 1965); founding trustee, Riverside Hospital of Ottawa (Vice-Chairman of the Board 1964 - 1969 and 1975 - 1979, Chairman of the Board 1969 - 1975); Director, Canadian Hospital Association; Director, Ontario Hospital Association; Director, Canadian Council on Hospital Accreditation (Chairman 1976 - 1978); member, Ottawa Area Legal Aid Committee (1975 - 1985); and the Riverside Hospital Foundation (Chairman 1982 - 1984). Lloyd is predeceased by his dear wife, Betty (1992) whom he married in 1940. He is survived by his sons Peter and Robert (Patricia), his grandchildren Noah, Daniel and Andrew Vineberg and Anthony McNally and his sister Lita-Rose Betcherman (Irving). Also predeceased by his brother Nordau. 1915-2001 Le 25 février 2001, à l’âge de 85 ans et six mois, est décédé le docteur Georges Filteau, quelques heures après avoir été happé par une automobile sur le boulevard Laurier à Québec. Georges Filteau eut une carrière bien remplie. Après des études primaires dans les deux langues, il entra au Séminaire de Québec, où il obtint un baccalauréat en arts. Bachelier en chimie de l’Université Laval en 1940, il enseigna pendant quatre ans à Ottawa “la guerre chimique” tout en faisant des recherches hautement secrètes sur les explosifs pour le compte de l’armée canadienne, qui l’avait mobilisé en 1943 durant la guerre. Revenu à l’Université Laval, il mena de front des études de pharmacie et de biochimie et obtint en 1945 une maîtrise en chimie organique et un baccalauréat en pharmacie. Il sera pharmacien et biochimiste à l’hôpital Saint-Sacrement tout en enseignant à l’École de pharmacie. Puis quatre années d’études spécialisées en médecine le méneront à un doctorat en biochimie et en science médicale en 1959. La thèse qu’il défendit alors fut remarquée: “Le dosage quantitatif des acides animés du sang par la chromatographie bi-dimensionnelle sur papier-filtre et sa valeur diagnostique”. Il occupera les postes de biochimisite à l’hôpital des Vétérans, directeur des laboratoires cliniques puis directeur des laboratoires et de la pharmacie des hôpitaux de Saint-Georges de Beauce et de Beauceville tout en enseignant en médecine à l’Université Laval. Gouverneur en 1959 puis président du Collège des pharmaciens, le docteur Filteau lutta avec énergie pour faire changer une loi de pharmacie, clairement désuète, et pour obtenir que l’étiquetage des médicaments en provenance de l’industrie soit bilingue. Avec des confrères, il fonda l’Association des pharmaciens de Québec en 1954. En 1974, quand le docteur Filteau se retira de l’association, M. Jacques MacDonald, alors président de l’Association des pharmaciens, écrivit: “Dans la petite histoire québécoise, Georges Filteau mérite une place de choix. Visionnaire, précurseur, travailleur acharné, sa contribution à l’essor de notre profession a été énorme... et vitale! On aurait tort de l’oublier.” Des parents et amis.
