Eugene Wilburn Smith of Comox passed away March 6, 2001 at Royal Jubliee Hospital, Victoria. "Smitty" was born June 22, 1929, in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Survived by his loving son Paul Smith (Marcelle), Ottawa, Ontario, and daughters Nancy (Moe) Audet, Sudbury, Ontario and Karen Smith, Ottawa, Ontario and their mother, Noreen Smith, Kelowna, B.C. He was the proud grandfather of Faith, Anna, Andrew and Simon Smith of Ottawa, Ontario and Chantal and Eric Audet of Sudbury, Ontario. "Smitty" was the son of the late Mont and Vera (Keefe) Smith. He is also mourned by his dear sister Lois Athanasiu of Toronto, Ontario and nephew, Andrew. He will also be missed by his loving extended family, Bruce and Mary Jaffary, Diane and Ellie Martin and the Yantha family of Renfrew, Ontario. Arrangements by Mt. Dr. Mohammad Abdul One of the original members of the Islamic Community of Montreal suddenly passed away on March 6th, 2001, 11:00 p.m. Saudi Arabia time while completing his pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj). Born on October 28th, 1939 in Ghazipur, India, Dr. Malik finished his BSc. and MSc. at Aligarh Muslim University in India before coming to Canada in 1962 on a graduate scholarship. He completed his Ph.D. In Mathematics at l'Universite de Montreal and joined the Department of Mathematics at Concordia University (formally known as Sir George Williams University) where he began a very successful career teaching from 1966 to 1998. Dr. Malik also served as Chairman for 1 term in 1987 where he played an integral role in developing Concordia University's Department of Mathematics. Dr. Malik spent countless hours researching on the History of Mathematics. He was an avid bridge player who enjoyed spending time playing cards with many friends. Many would agree that Dr. Malik was an intelligent, humourous man who lived life to the fullest. Dr. Malik is survived by his wife Rehana, daughter Sumbul (Neyaz), son Areeb (Christine), granddaughter Aliyah and mother Safia Bano Ansari. He is also survived by his five younger sisters Zarrin, Seemin, Nasrin, Ruby and Lalin and their families. (nee James). After a ten year struggle with Alzheimer's disease, mother went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 5, 2001. Mother was born in Wales, April 1, 1912, the youngest of four children. She came to Montreal at the age of two years and during her life worked with various companies including Holt Renfrew and Herzing Institute. She is survived by her daughter Rosemary, son-in-law Camil, and four grandchildren Miriam, Matthew, Philip and Aimee. We are thankful to the Lord for her loving witness of his presence in her life and for her love for her family. the Funeral will take place at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 ch. de la Foret, Outremont, on Monday, March 12, 2001 at 2 p.m. Reception to follow.
