Born in London, England, June 2, 1918. Died in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, West Indies, February 20, 2001, in his 83rd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Panda (nee Joan Smith) in 1985. Moff was the only son of Patrick Moffat of Sligo and Evelyn Moffat of Newmarket. Evelyn instilled in him a love of music and the theatre, and in 1932 Moff joined the Grand Continental Circus, eventually becoming the great clown, Toto, who made the whole of Europe laugh. He also made thousands of friends whom he never forgot. Part of his youth was also spent with his father in Harlem, New York. Back in England, Moff was decorated for his service (1939-1946) in World War II in the Royal Artillery, Guard's Armoured Division, liberators of Brussels. During the war he met and fell in love with Sergeant-Major Smith of the Auxiliary Territorial Service, who, he delighted in recounting, outranked him. They married in 1946. After the war, Moff apprenticed as a draughtsperson and became proficient in the drawings related to patents. He and Panda immigrated to Canada in the 1950s and he entered the Ottawa firm of Gowling Henderson where he became a Patent / Trademark Agent, later founding his own firm, Moffat and Butler. For the past 13 years, Moff made his home on a hilltop on the Caribbean island of Bequia. Prolific writer and raconteur extraordinaire, Moff lived life to the full. His many friends in Ottawa, Toronto, and Bequia will miss his erudite and puckish wit and his conviviality. Funeral services were held in Bequia on February 23, 2001, Canon C. A. My dearly beloved dad Bob McAlinden, a resident of Tally Ho Manor, Carleton Place, Ontario died on Saturday February 24, 2001 at the age of 72. He was the son of the late Michael McAlinden and his wife the late Rita McGinnis of Fredericton, N.B. Father of Deborah Weir (Steven) of Carleton Place, Cathy Gray, Patricia Belmore, Susan McNabb, James (Barb) and Stephen (Eleanor) all of Fredericton, N.B. Most loved Grandpa of C.J., John, Matt and Katie. Grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Fondly remembered by Mary McAlinden. Brother of Gerald "Tim" and Shirley Farrell. Predeceased by brothers Ron and Joe and twin sister Rita. Dad had a wonderful career in sales for CFNB and the Daily Gleaner in Fredericton. Loving and cherished companion of Eve Flesher, the beautiful person who loved, encouraged and supported him through many difficult periods over the last couple of years. His precious and only child, Susan and her loving husband Ian will deeply miss Ralph's love, wit, intelligence and his desire to constantly search inside to become more and more loving and open. These efforts and successes will always be cherished. Dear brother of June (widow of Ted), and Don (Junie) and the late Marne (Joyce). Fondly remembered by many friends and relatives. He would want to thank you for your love over the years, and bestow the very best of health and love on you all. Passed away quietly at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital on Saturday, February 24, 2001 in her 93rd year, after some three years of residency at the Versa Care Lodge of Ottawa. She was educated at the Ottawa Ladies College and served in a series of administrative positions in the Ottawa area including the original Ottawa Civic Hospital and the rural school board for the counties of Carleton Prescott and Russell. Leeta was a life member of Parkdale United Church wherein she served with the UCW and helped in the organizing of fall craft bazares. Her personal interest included her family, her "Aylmer roots," the "bridge club" and the family cottage at Portland, Ontario. Dearly loved wife of Henry Loryd Penney. Loving sister and sister-in-law of the late Aron and of Rita Gleiser of London, Rachel Gottlieb of London, and Shulamith and the late Isaac Calles of Buenos Aries. Devoted and wonderful aunt of Bruce Gottlieb (Laurie) of Montreal, Alan Gottlieb (Evelyn) of London, Ian Gleiser (Carol) of Jerusalem, Jackie Roodyn (Michael) of London, Judith Wechsler (Jack) of Beit Rimon, Israel, Richard Calles (Viviana), Roger Calles (Miriam) of Buenos Aries, Sandy Grynpas (Marc) and David Calles of Toronto. She will be sadly missed by her many friends in Berkeley. We are grateful to Dr. Jones, Head Nurses Maggie Calcedas and Diane Shea and the nurses and staff of the Infirmary of the Griffith McConnell Home for their superb care. WWII Veteran, R.C.A. Former employee of Northern Electric (NEDCO) and Member of the Telephone Pioneers. Peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, February 24, 2001 at age 82. Much beloved husband of Yvonne. Loving father to Shawn and father-in-law to Susan (McWatty). Loving and most cherished grandpa to Trina. Predeceased by granddaughter Shannon. Dearly loved brother of Lanetta (LeRoy) and predeceased by Rupert, Ralph, Edna McDonald and Wanda Charman. Son of the late Bill and Ida Riley. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.
