Grandmother of Kevin Helmer, Valerie Helmer, Toronto; Donna Dunnagan (Helmer), South Carolina; Steven Helmer (Joan) and Amanda Helmer, Iroquois, and Rodney Helmer (Julie), Chesterville. Also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by grandson Gary Helmer, brothers Darcy and Ronald Merkley and sisters Beatrice Froats and Ivalene Barclay. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Miles Merkley and Minnie (Dillabough) Merkley. The family will receive friends at the Chesterville Funeral Home, 62 Queen Street from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday January 23rd. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Wednesday January 24th at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Maple Ridge Cemetery. On January 21, 2001 at Mount Sinai Hospital in his ninety-six year. Best friend to Margo Bechert. Loving father to Michael and his wife Patricia of Collingwood. Predeceased by his daughter Dr. Gail Henning and his grandsons David and John Henning. He is survived by his brother Maurice and his wife Eileen Rose of Calgary, Alberta. Bill enjoyed a long career at Robin Hood Multifoods. He was a keen skier and golfer and also an honorary member of the Royal Montreal Golf Club.
