Psalm 103:17-18 The Lord took unto Himself His child Catharina Mechelse, at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by her husband George Mechelse. She will be sadly missed by her children, Anne and Henry VanderScheer, Dirk and Hilda Mechelse, Audrey and Herman Rustenburg, Tina an d Paul Van Vliet, Ron and Linda Mechelse, Jerry and Willy Mechelse, Nancy and Henry Bartels. Loving grandmother of 19 and great grandmother of 25. Predeceased by 1 grandson and 2 great grandchildren. Also survived by 2 sisters in Holland. KONKLE, Thelma Beryl (nee Brandow), Born March 23, 1910 in Hamilton, Ontario. Delivered by the first female doctor in the area. Daughter of Lorne and Olive (nee Leaver) Brandow. Thelma grew up on King Street in Stoney Creek and after graduation work ed at the Royal Bank and International Harvester in Hamilton. On June 6, 1936, she married Earl O. Konkle and they eventually owned a shoe store on King Street, Beamsville. Thelma was one of the early members of the Lena Davis Chapter of I.O.D.E., se cretary for Trinity United Church, Beamsville, then Office Manager for the Beamsville Medical Centre until her retirement. She was a member of Section 8 of the U.C.W. since 1936, a member of the Niagara Regional Medical Secretaries Association and wa s their representative to the Ontario Medical Secretaries Association. Upon her retirement she was made an Honourary Member of the Niagara Regional Medical Secretaries Association. She enjoyed living at Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Home playing bridge an d cards, she worked in their Library and was Birthday Card Convener up until her death. Thelma was a vivacious person who enjoyed interaction with people, following politics and helping wherever she could. Her cheery smile and enthusiasm will be grea tly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by siblings Lorna Winterbottom, George, Clare and Bill and husband Earl Konkle. After a short illness, Thelma was shepherded home to her Lord and will be sadly missed by her extensive family and fri ends. Her legacy will live on in her children Gary (Marie), Ray (Pat), Linda, Norman (Sheila) and her chosen daughter Sharon Sharpe. Her grandchildren, Cheryl, Karen (Ben), Lori (Blaine), Angie (Dean), Tim (Laura), Bret, Laurie (Robert) and Scott (Je n); great-grandchildren, BJ (Blaine), Carrie, Dylan, Anthony, Kathrine, Jessica and many loving nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother Francis Brandow, sisters-in-law Isabell Gammon, Millicent Brandow, Marilyn Konkle and Kay Brandow. The family will receive friends at the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 4998 King St., Beamsville on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a service to celebrate her life at Trinity United Church in Beamsville on Friday, January 16th at 1:30 p.m. Thanks to the nu rsing staff at the Hotel Dieu Hospital for their loving care. COVATTA, Vincenzo, Passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at the St. Catharines General Hospital, at the age of 88. He was a proud resident of Chateau Gardens. Dear son of the late Vincenzo and Antonietta. Beloved husband of Giuseppina of almost 67 years. Devoted and loved "PAPA" of Frank and Angela of Niagara-on-the-Lake and Maria and the late Michele Carluccio of St. Catharines. Dear grandfather and "NONNO" of six grandchildren Vincent, Joseph and Katherine Covatta and Pina (Dan iel) Konieczny, Anna (Felice) Valvano and Pat Carluccio. Dearly beloved "NONNO" of Christann, Mikella and Isabella. He will be sadly missed by a sister Maria (Domenico) Ricciuto. Predeceased by a sister Vincenza and two brothers Giovanni (Maria) Marr one and Giuseppe (Vincenza) Marrone. Loved cousin of Luigi, Maria and the late Frank Covatta of Niagara Falls, New York. He was a wonderful son-in-law of the late Angelo and Nunzia Gabriele and brother-in-law of the late Giovanni and Vincenza, Marcel lo and Pasqualina, Igino and Antonietta Gabriele, Teresina and Vincenzo Ricciuto, Giovina and Giuseppe Ricciutto, Maria Nicola and Vincenzo Donatelli and survived by Carmela and the late Vincenzo Foligno. Caring nephew of the late Costanzo and Christ ina Covatta and the late Filomeno and Giovina Ricciuto. Vincenzo will be missed by many nieces and nephews. He touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten. BIRNIE, John Wilson (Jack) 1931-2004, After a long battle with lung disease, with family at his side. Jack leaves his wife and companion of 27 years, Gail, and children Laura, Jack, Pat, Larry, Scott and his wife Maria, Jenny, many grandchildren, ni eces and nephews. Survived by two brothers, Peter and his wife Dixie Lee, and Howard and his wife Marjorie. Predeceased by his mother Eleanor (1932) and his father Sgt. Peter Birnie (1943), and step-mother Pearl (1987). Jack was a proud member of The Kiwanis Club of St. Catharines for 35 years serving as President first in 1983-84 and 2nd in 1993-94, and Lt. Governor from 1988-89, also a life member of Kiwanis International and a member of Mel Osbourne Fellowship. He worked in the dental profess ion for 60 years 1943-2003. Jack was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and served on the Kirk session and on the Board of Managers in the sixties and seventies. Jack loved life and his family and lived it to its fullest and enjoyed his 73 years he re on earth. Cremation has taken place. ALEK, Andrew (Andras) 1924-2004., RCAF veteran of WWII. Employed for 30 years at Columbus McKinnon Chain Co., retiring as the Plant Maintenance Manager. Andy was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Lyttle) for 58 years. Dear father of David and Irene (Peter) Mernagh. Dear Grandfather of 5 grandsons and 3 Granddaughters, and Great-grandfather of 3 Great-grandsons and 2 Great-granddaughters. Andy was the only brother of Margaret (Henry) Hruska. Grateful thanks to Peritoneal nurses, Arden and Sandi. Also many thanks to the Hemodialysis nurses, too many to mention by individual names. WELSH, Irene Mary, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Mary Welsh (nee Boothman) who has departed according to her wishes, "gracefully". She was the wife of the late Arthur B. Welsh; mother of Art (Rose), Alan and Janet; g randmother of Trevor, Laura, Kathleen, Jennifer; sister of Jane (Hans) Meneke, Margaret (Charlie) Brown and the late John Boothman. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mom was an avid bridge player for many years and up until a few years ago, enjoyed golf. We will miss her at our family "get togethers". ROY, Rose Rita "There is a time to live a time to celebrate a time to die and a time to remember." -ECCL.3:155 We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Rose Rita 1924 - 2004. Predeceased by her parents Leo Roy and Ursule Trudell, her brothers Armand, Aurele, Lionel, Etienne, Fr. Adrien and a sister, Sr. Marie Roaire. Survived by Bernadette, Rosaire and wife Faye, Alma Menard and husband Joseph. Cherished by many nieces and nephews and her caring friends Jeanne and Leandre St. Amand and Johanne and Mark Laprise. Rose Rita was a teacher. A Leader of Young Catholic Student (Y.C.S.). She planned and organized the first Diocesan Congress of Catholic Youths. She was a religious. Former students will remember her as (Mother Francis Xavier). Her kindness and generosity to her family, friends, Church and community will forever be remembered. Rose Rita was a longtime member of Le Club De L'Amitie. "Some people come into our lives and quickly go, some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same." STEINBURG, Murray Peacefully with his wife Jean (Campbell) of 67 years by his side. Murray Steinburg passed away at the age of 95. Very proud father of Carl (Karen). THEISEN, Edward William, Peacefully at home in his 85th year surrounded by his loving family. Ted is survived by his adoring wife of 56 years, Margaret (Holland) Theisen. Cherished father of Holly (John) Balasak, Niagara Falls. Predeceased by a daug hter Karen Elizabeth (1972). Papa will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Kelly of Chilliwack, B.C. and Scott and Karen of Niagara Falls. Dear brother of Jack Theisen of Thorold. Predeceased by sister Vera (1943). Ted was a WWII Veteran, serving in Europe with the 48th Regiment, St. John's Fusilliers. He worked for the Ontario Paper Co., retiring after 44 years of service. BIDDULPH, William (Bill). Peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario, in his eighty-seventh year. Formally of Montreal and Dorval, Quebec. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn (nee Cox). He was the wonderful and much loved father of Mary Biddulph and cherished father-in-law to Lambros Mermigis of Barrie, Ontario. He was called "papa" by his granddaughter Sophia whom he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed by his sister Elaine Claxton of Verdun. His life was surrounded by a large extended family of nieces and nephews who he extended his heart and life to. Bill was a man of remarkable spirit that was fueled by a huge heart as a young man, he fought bravely for his country in the II World War. Up until his death he continued to help anyone in need and always had a twinkle in his eye and a joke to share. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends. Her husband being a banker, she moved frequently and has lived in Guelph, Sudbury, Wallaceburg and South Porcupine. After her husband passed away she moved in with her son where she remained until her passing. She will be sadly missed by her son, her daughter-in-law and her grandchildren. McGILLIVRAY, John Ernest (Ernie) - Quietly, at Sunnybrook and Women's College, in his 89th year. John was predeceased by his wife Eileen nee Harris (Burke) and his brothers Hugh and Don McGillivray. He is survived by his sisters Jean Alton and Marion Gleiser. Born on the family farm near Paisley, Ontario, John was proud of his roots in Bruce County. John lived in Toronto where he worked for the Toronto Star. He proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the R.C.A.F. He returned to work for the federal government. John spent his last years happily as a resident of the Veterans' Wing at Sunnybrook. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, family and friends. JULIE HOLMAN (NEE ROUSSEAU) Julie Holman (nee Rousseau), died peacefully at home as she wished, surrounded by family. Caring wife and homemaker to Ted for 52 years. YVONNE MARIE GEAUVREAU-TURNER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne Geauvreau-Turner (nee Kelly) of the Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, Ont. at the young age of 37. Yvonne will be missed by the many people she knew, but none more than her children, Hannah, seven, and Landen, four. Yvonne’s husband, Jeff Geauvreau, has lost his true love. Yvonne also will be very, very deeply missed by her mother, Lucille Kelly-Davis, and her husband, Brian Davis. She was predeceased by her father, Douglas Kelly; and sister, Marilyn Goodsky (nee Kelly). Yvonne will be missed by her precious surviving siblings, Clarence “Chuck” Kelly, Cheryl Kelly, and Brian Assinewai. Also grieving are Yvonne’s treasured nieces and nephews, Fabian Kelly, Sylver Goodsky, Taylor May, Shane May, Brett May, Ceejay Kelly, Lorralene Kelly, Xylain Brendly Kelly, Eylse Nolet, Nicholas Nolet, Jeffrey Nolet, and Luke Nolet. Also she will be sadly missed by her numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Mourning with Jeff are his parents, Ross and Mary Turner of Mississauga, Ont.; as are his sister, Janice Nolet and her husband, Paul Nolet; and Jeff’s brother, John-Ross Turner. The happiest days of her short life were spent with her children. She took great pride and interest in their lives. She especially enjoyed reading and singing to her children. She also loved singing and playing the classical guitar. Yvonne always loved to laugh, and her laughter and good humour will remain with us forever. She was an accomplished classical guitarist and many will miss the sound of her music. Yvonne will always be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched. Yvonne would like the memory of her to be a happy one—of happy times and bright and sunny days. In 1999, Yvonne was hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in extremely dire condition when she was 21 weeks pregnant. Yvonne made clear her wishes in the event of her passing and it is her husband, Jeff, who intends to carry out the oath upon which they both agreed. She would not allow the doctors to remove her son to save her life because he would not have survived. Both recovered, and Landen was born 14 weeks later on July 30, 1999. The funeral will be held Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Onigaming First Nation Gymnasium, with Pastor Peggy Mason and Elder Gilbert Smith performing a dual Christian and traditional ceremony. The wake will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 3 p.m. at the Onigaming First Nation Gymnasium. Should friends and family so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to any Lakewood Credit Union for the trust fund set up for her children, Hannah and Landen Geauvreau-Turner.

MARGARET JULIA OSTER Beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Joan (Ken) MacTavish of Fort Frances, Ont., and their children, Jim, John, Bruce, Robbie, and Nancy; Nora (George) Paulenko of Fort Frances, Ont., and their children, Heather, Jacqueline, and Catherine; Madeline (Patrick) McColman of Kagawong, Ont., and their children, Ernie, Victoria, Patricia, and Cynthia; Dorothy (Werner) Doebele of Keremeos, B.C., and their son, Charles; Eileen (Ed) Sobkowich of Winnipeg, Man., and their children, Dale, Lori, and Scott; and Kathleen (Tony) Pankuch of Thunder Bay, Ont., and their children, George, Jane, and Susan; and her sons, Jim (Diane) Oster of Fort Frances, Ont., and their son, Bradley; John (Norma) of Bridgewater, N.S., and their children, Sarah, Rebecca, and Patrick; Brian of Sudbury, Ont., and his daughter, Kris-Ann; and Lawrence (Laura) of Castlegar, B.C., and their children, Paul and Jennifer. Margaret also is survived by her brother, Edward James Ward of Edmonton, Alta.; 26 grandchildren (listed above with their parents); and 21- great-grandchildren, Katie, Mallory, Emily, Spencer, Ian, Benjamin, Christopher, Joshua, Brendan, Olivia, Kennedy, Avery Rose, Liam, Cameron, Cassidy, Brendan, Skylar, Aaron, Matthew, Kaitlyn, and Megan Julia. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Edith (Thomas) Ward; her beloved husband, Leo Patrick Oster; her eldest son, Leo Francis; two brothers, Sidney and Thomas; and only sister, Martha (Jack) Reynolds. Born Margaret Julia Ward on Sept, 5, 1912 in Pinewood, Ont., she was raised and educated there until entering St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg to pursue her nursing training (RN). After graduation in 1935, she remained at St. Boniface. Then in 1936, she married Leo Francis Oster and subsequently left nursing to raise a young family in Stratton, Ont. She returned to nursing at La Verendrye Hospital in 1954 and continued as head nurse, Pediatrics/Geriatrics, until her well-deserved retirement in 1974. Margaret was an active member of the C.W.L. for 50 years and also a member of the Grey Nuns Association. Prayers and visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at 10 a.m., with Fr. Francis Pudicherry officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Cawston, Brad Oster, Dale Sobkowich, George Pankuch, Jerry Donaldson, and John McTavish. Honourary pallbearers will be Madelyn Manley, Betty Mueller, Kaye Latonas, Margaret Rousseau, Bonnie Carlson, Gladys Payne, Madeline Martin, Paulette DeVos, and Louise Chambers. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Development and World Peace Fund, c/o St. Mary’s Church in Fort Frances. Margaret’s earthly remains will rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances, beside her husband Leo, beloved partner in death as well as in life. In addition to her devout faith, the greatest joy in Margaret’s life was her large and loving family. She was never happier than when she could be close to all of them at one time. KRAHN, Mrs. Hannelore Charlotte Passed away at home at the age of 74 years. Beloved mother of Doris (Rod) and Thomas. Grandmother of Kristen, Brittany, Ashley and Kelsey. KEMP, Eileen Dora David and Susan Kemp announce with profound sadness the death of Eileen Dora Kemp, loving mother of David, mother-in-law to Susan, grandmother to Stephanie and Adrian and great grandmother of Ada Mae. Eileen died peacefully, surroun ded by her family, in accordance with her fervent wish to stay in her new Canadian home to the end. Her death came just two days after her 96th birthday and seven weeks after the death of her beloved Billy, to whom she was married for 71 years. The f amily would especially like to thank Kay Warr, Susan's mother, for her devotion to Eileen, and Laura of ComCare, Janet Brown of the VON, the two Marias and Christina. Thanks go to Dr. Hans Westenberg for his sensitivity and caring. Eileen was a remar kable woman. A primary school teacher of the old school, she cared passionately about education. Generations of children still remember how she touched their lives, at times, it seemed that everyone in the small Somerset town of Frome must have been taught by her. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent in the Methodist Church for fifty years and when, in May, she and Billy left for a new life in Canada, the church in Frome was packed to overflowing with well wishers. If ever there wa s a life spent in service of others, it was Eileen's. Utterly determined and generous to a fault, she was a deeply caring person and no one could have wished for a more loving mother. She is sadly mourned by all who ever knew her and we shall not see her like again. A memorial service will be held in England at a later date. The family requests there be no floral tributes but a donation, in her name, to any children's charity would be appreciated. ALLAN JAMES EDGAR WOLFRAME It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Allan James Edgar Wolframe will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, Evelyn; sons, Dwayne (Cherry) and Darcy (Colleen); daughter, Gaylene (Bob); grandson, Michael; and granddaughters, Sharon and Kataryna. He also leaves to mourn his brother, Ralph. Allan was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Stella Wolframe; and brother, Roy. Allan was born April 2, 1934 and was raised in Emo, Ont. His early years were spent mining underground in Atikokan, Ont. Then in 1964, he moved to Kenora to raise his family and establish the successful business, Community Well Drilling Ltd. In the subsequent years, he also founded Wolframe’s World of Water. He was a member of The Loyal Order of Moose and Khartum Temple. During his lifetime, Allan made many friends and brought smiles to the faces of those who knew him. His outgoing personality and zest for life will truly be missed. Our family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. C. R. Scaife and Dr. C. M. Workman, nurses, staff, and the Palliative Care Team at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital for their special care to make Allan’s last days comfortable. A special thank you also goes out to Rev. Gordon Day-Janz for his comforting words and prayers. DOLORES R. BOMBAY Delores R. Bombay, of 901 Shevlin Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 5, 1948 in Emo Ont. She was a member of Rainy River First Nation where she resided until her teen years. Her later years were spent in Fort Frances where she worked in various tourist camps. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred Bombay (Oct. 23, 1963) and Lottie Bombay (Dec. 7, 1988); and her partner of 30 years, Ronald Tucker on June 25, 1996. She leaves to mourn her son, George of Winnipeg, Man.; brothers, Robert and Darrel of Fort Frances, Ont.; and sister, Jana Mullner of Atikokan, Ont. She is also survived by her uncles, Sam (Geraldine), Calvin and Ray Bombay, and John Falloon (Bev); aunts, Annie Holborn and Pearl Stevens; and special friend, Clifford Loveday. A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 23, 1999 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances. A lunch followed at the United Native Friendship Centre. A private burial will be held at a later date.

NORMAN HARLEY BYERLY Norman Harley Byerly, 81, of Pinewood, ON, passed away in Pinewood, Ontario. He was born on March 7, 1918 in Dana, Indiana and had lived most of his life in Schererville, Indiana. He had worked as a mechanic and had owned and operated a small business. He retired in 1977 and then moved to Canada. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and gardening and was known for his wonderful garden. He was also dedicated to taking care of Grandma during her extended illness. Norman is survived by his daughter Jean Craig of Madison, Wisconsin, and son Frank of Mont Belvieu, Texas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, John, Dawn, Julie, Ruthann, Daniel, Edith and Karen, two brothers Paul and wife Claudine of Sullivan, Indiana, Fenton of Sierra Vista, Arizona, one sister Catherine and husband Ralph Collom of Holly Hill, South Carolina as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was united in marriage to Florence Shelton who predeceased him in 1996. He was also predeceased by his parents John and Mary Byerly, five brothers, Louis, Russell, Harold, Dan and Dale. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, August 22, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Morson, ON with Pastor Ron Grout officiating. The honourary pallbearers are Norman’s family and friends.
