MACK , Wilbert (Wilf) June 18, 1927 - November 5, 2009 Born in Dundurn, Saskatchewan in June 1927, Wilf passed away in Calgary, Alberta on November 5, 2009. Left to mourn is Wilf's wife Bernie, sons Kevin in Calgary, Randall (Joice) in Brazil and daughter Laura (Peter Ledaire) in Nova Scotia. Wilf is also survived by his children's mother, Jean Mack, stepdaughter Barbara (Colin) Keylor and family, stepsons Fred (Judy) Rea and family, Jim (Mila) Rea and family, Brian Rea and family, as well as Bill Rea. Also left to mourn Wilf's passing are sisters Edith and Elsie, nephews and nieces. Wilf loved his more than fifty years of life on the road, his storytelling, antics, and his favourite song, "I Did It My Way", by Frank Sinatra. SCADE, Bev (nee Nykolyn) February 4, 1954 - November 5, 2009 Bev Scade was a beloved wife, mother to many, family to more, and a friend to all. She taught us to live with love and to cherish those around us. Her greatest passion in life was her family and her friends. "Good Food, Good Drink, and Great Friends" was the motto she lived by. On November 5th, 2009, Beverly Anne Scade of Edmonton, AB, passed away at the age of 55 years. She is survived by her husband of 35 years Gordon: her son Shaun and his fiancee Stephanie: daughter Tara and her husband Neil: and her daughter Kristina. Bev is also survived by her mother Nadia, father-in-law Tom, brother Daniel and Karen, sister Tricia and Mark, her niece Alexa and nephew Jack, and numerous close cousins. She was predeceased by her father Alex and mother-in-law Christine. Bev was a bookkeeper and office manager for a variety of companies. She was also the Executive Administrator for the Professional Photographers of Canada - Alberta. Beverly's influence spread far throughout the photography community where she will be missed dearly. Her smile and laugh will be etched in our minds forever, so shed a tear, grab a hug, and live your life truly, for yourself, and for Bev. NOBLE , Vernon E. 1949 - 2009 Vern Noble passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of November 6, 2009. He is survived by his treasured wife, Johnnie DesRochers and his sister Wendy (Udo) of Okotoks. Vern considered children and grandchildren one of life's greatest joys and left to remember the good times are his children: Dawn Noble (Jamie) of Calgary, Christie Noble (Craig) of Kamloops, Jacinta (Eric) Klindworth of Beulah, North Dakota, Greg (Yvonne) Thompson of Kelowna, and Courtney Thompson (Greg) of Calgary and grandchildren: Camille, Emma, Ronan, Grady, Carter, Madelaine, Layne, and Amanda. Other members of Vern and Johnnie's extended family will forever cherish his memory. Vern was predeceased by his father and mother (Stewart and Barbara Noble) and his older brother, Kenneth. Vern was born in High River and lived most of his younger years on the farm south of Okotoks. Here he learned to love the mountains and the open prairies. He completed his education at SAIT in Computer Technology, and spent most of his career in the oil patch in Calgary and Rainbow Lake with companies including Aquitaine, Canadian Hunter, and Nova. In later years he became an acquisition and mergers evaluator for Direct Energy. He finally moved back to an acreage near the old family farm with Johnnie. In his spare time he hayed, raised cattle, and with Johnnie took on the raising of miniature donkeys. Vern was always aware of the community around him, and extended a helping hand through his involvement with Northmount Kiwanis in Calgary, and later with the Rotary Club of Okotoks. Whatever project was to be done, one could find Vern volunteering his time, talent and treasures. Vern was known for wealth of knowledge and his common sense. He was patient, methodical, and often was the one who could silently examine a problem and with clarity extract a solution. He was known for this "dry" sense of humor and he was quick with the "wit". His family, friends and colleagues will miss his steady and guiding hand. "The measure of a man is not in what he had, but what in he was willing to give away" The family would like to extend their thanks to the paramedics, rescue personnel, RCMP and the medical examiner whose kindness and support was appreciated. Funeral Services will take place at the St. James Catholic Church in Okotoks, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, with family friend Father Jack Bastigal officiating. PICKETT Laurie Gail (nee Laktin) Laurie passed away peacefully on November 2, 2009, less than a week after being admitted to Burnaby General Hospital after two months of home care. She was predeceased by her father John and is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her son James, mother Nancy , brother Wayne, other "mom" Mavis, and husband Ed. Laurie was born in Trail, BC on August 27, 1955 and was raised and educated in Castlegar where generations of her family have lived since the early 1900s. Laurie moved to Vancouver after high school, continuing her education and gaining hard earned experience, eventually becoming the Office Manager for what would become NSDA Architects. She married her husband Ed in 1987 and nine years later just after being told that her marriage would be child-free, became pregnant with her son James who became her greatest joy and to whom she dedicated the remainder of her life . Laurie not only excelled as a mom, she also had great artistic skills with fabric and mosaics, creating many quilts for auctions in support of causes dear to her heart. In addition to her work at NSDA, Laurie was an integral part of the family consulting business, Laured Computing Services, and enjoyed a perfect part-time position at Ecowaste Industries. As Laurie's metastatic breast cancer progressed over 11 years, she required more care from the BCCA, the Spinal Unit at VGH, Medical Day Care at RCH, G.F. Strong and finally 2D at Burnaby General. The family wishes to thank all the Nurses, Doctors, and staff at these facilities and in particular her oncologist Meg, GP Diane, and all the Nurses on 2D who were there when Laurie slipped away with peace and dignity. There will be a private family ceremony in Castlegar followed by a Celebration of Life later this month in Vancouver. For further information please email lgp@laured.ca. McLEISH, David David passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on November 3rd, 2009. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Burdett House and Kings Road, as well as his social worker and all of the other terrific people who have helped David along the way. David is survived by his mother, Stella; sister Rosemary; and brothers Martin, Stewart, and Richard. Those who knew David will remember him "just living life", and that he was happiest when he had an adequate supply of "nicotine, caffeine, and gasoline". ANDERSON Melanie Gail It is with deep sorrow that we announce Melanie's passing on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 in Vernon Hospice House. She had reached the age of 35 years. BADYK , Patricia Frances (nee Sandgathe) February 27, 1923 - November 7, 2009 Mrs. Patricia Frances Badyk of StayWell Manor, Calgary died on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Patricia was a tireless volunteer for her church and her community. She was a proud Calgarian. Patricia is the loving mother of daughter Patricia Jane (Howard) Allan of Airdrie; and son David Badyk of Calgary. JACKSON , James B. (Jim) July 22, 1935 - November 5, 2009 James B. (Jim) Jackson, beloved husband of Emma of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the age of 74 years. Jim was born in Hamilton, ON and came out west in 1955. He met and married his wife Emma Lind in 1957. Besides his loving wife of fifty-two years Emma, Jim is also survived by his daughter Carolyn; grandson Andrew and Andrew's father Rob, all of Calgary; sister Margaret Davidge, of Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews in Alberta and Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents Jean and James Jackson; sister Jane Scrivens; niece Sandra; and brothers-in-law, Aksel, Carl and Edward Lind.
