OBITUARY DOROTHY ANN (MULRONEY) MARCHAND Aug. 14, 1920-Nov. 4, 2009 Dorothy passed away at home in North Vancouver after several months of decline. She loved to live a good life, always going somewhere, trying new things and especially liked spending time with her children and their families. She was born and lived in Montreal for her first sixty-eight years, then she moved to North Vancouver and found herself welcomed by the community - she enjoyed her new life in North Vancouver after the death of her husband Ludger Mederic Marchand. She is lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Michael (Susan Thorp) and granddaughter Miranda, Melanie (Roland Wahlgren) and granddaughter Tegan Wahlgren, and Patrick (Kelly Carr) and grandchildren Shawn, Christopher and Caitlin. Dorothy was blessed with great neighbours who looked out for her and friends who kept in touch these last few months when she could not get out as much as she would have liked. In lieu of flowers Dorothy would most approve of people making time to be with their friends and family and taking a moment to toast her - it is from these bonds between us that we all get our strength and become a community. STEVENSON, Linda Jane On Wednesday November 4, after an arduous battle with cancer, Linda in her 51st year slipped away with her family by her side. Dearly beloved wife and soul mate of Randy Steeds. Roy Friess 1918 2009 Roy Friess passed away peacefully in Estevan, Sk on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the age of 90 years. He was predeceased by his parents Mathias and Matilda Friess, brothers George, Marcuis and Matt Jr., sister Matilda Beahm, brother Daniel in infancy, brother in laws Ervin Olischifski and Willie Beahm, and sister in law Rosalie Fedyk. Romuld, Arne Kenneth Kenny passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on November 5, in his 84th year. Born on the family farm near the town of Dunblane to Andreas and Gudrun Romuld, he was a prairie boy. Kenny is survived by his wife, Norma; daughters, Karen Hughes (John), Colleen (Douglas Balfour), and Barbara (Ken Sinnaeve). Devoted grandfather to Jessica Hughes (Craig Prentice), Kristina Hughes (Scott Walker), Jarret and Kelsi Balfour, Kaari and Anders Sinnaeve, and great-grandfather to Faith Walker. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marj Romuld; brother-in-law, Jim Brooks; close friend and cousin, Conrad Romuld; and a large extended family. Kenny was predeceased by his parents; granddaughters, Erin and Leanne Hughes; sister, Martha Brooks; brothers, Oswald, George and Babe; father-in-law, Harold Bell; in-laws, Marion and Don Lynch. When he was a teenager Kenny was taught telegraphy by Atwood Bent, station agent at Dunblane and friend of the family. This skill led to a 38 year career with CN Rail as station agent in several Saskatchewan communities Tichfield, Demaine and Dunbane, and a final move to Saskatoon in 1965. He was an enthusiastic participant in small-town life, skiing in the hills at Tichfield, roaming and hunting throughout the `Snake Bite' in southern Saskatchewan, and curling. As a young man his passions were baseball and hockey. Upon retirement in 1983, Kenny took advantage of electrical and plumbing courses at SIAST and with help from family and friends went on to build a log home at Birken BC. He and Norma spent many happy times there on their own and with family and friends. Kenny was a member of the Morse Telegraph Club KN Chapter, and until his health declined, a volunteer at the Western Development Museum. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, Kenny never lost his love of the farm and cherished memories of growing up and working in rural Saskatchewan. The family thanks Drs. Rajput and Reed and the nursing staff of ward 6300 at RUH for their excellent care and compassion. A celebration of Kenny's life will be held on November 13 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Martin's United Church, 2617 Clarence Avenue. In lieu of floral tributes the family requests that memorial donations be directed to the Canadian Mental Health Association or St. Martin's United Church. Darline Joyce Stern February 25, 1930 November 5, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darline. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Cox; sister-in-law, Carol Cox; niece, Rhonda Cox; nephews, Glenn (Glenda) Cox and Barry (Gwen) Cox; several great nieces and nephews; and Shirley Hanson. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Hazel; brother, Bill; sister, Dolores; and nephew, Garry. Darline loved animals in particular her dogs. She was a very kind and caring person who took great pleasure in helping others. Volunteering with the St. Paul's Hospital geriatric wing, Salvation Army kettles, and CHEP kitchens was very important part of her life as was her interest in cooking. ANDREWS Donald Bruce July 3, 1959 - October 28, 2009 "No one you love is ever gone, for they live on in your heart." Anon. It is with great sadness that we are announcing the sudden death of Bruce, in Perth, Australia. Bruce is the son of Peggy Andrews, father of Mark, brother of Jane Manning (Paul) and Scot (Pam), and Uncle to David, Bryan, Taryn, Teagan and Cailyn. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Don Andrews in April 2007. Bruce has spent the last 14 years living in Perth where he proudly watched his son, Mark, develop and grow into an accomplished young man. During that time, Bruce also formed a strong friendship with the Campbell family, Olly, Rob and their sons Simon and Tim. We are forever grateful for their love, support and compassion. DYCK Eva Grace, nee Hughes On October 30, 2009 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Peter Abram Dyck, June 2000 and son in law Mike Norris, August 2004. Survived by her daughter Mary Norris of Ottawa, Ont., son Bill Dyck (Jenny) of Papamoa Beach New Zealand, Grandchildren Jerry (Tanya) Black, Jeffery Black (Julie), Adam (Jenna), Matthew (Donna) and Sarah Dyck, Gregory Norris, Lisa Norris (Jonathan), and Great Grandchildren Ethan and Jacob Black. "Granny", as she was affectionately known, was born in Simpson, Saskatchewan in 1917 but lived most her life in New Westminster. She was a wonderful mother, grandparent, auntie, and special person to all that had the pleasure of knowing her for her amazing sense of humour, stories, and love of life. Granny will be sadly missed, but happily remembered by all. She was a long time member of St. Barnabas Evening Circle, the Royal Columbian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and of the Central Fraser Valley Branch of FSNA. JEFFERY Janie Louise It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janie Louise Jeffery; beloved wife and loving mother. She fought a brave and courageous battle with her disease Pulmonary Fibrosis. She passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 surrounded by her loved ones. JOSEPHSON Helmer William (Joe) With his loving family always at his side, a kind, gentle and caring man passed away peacefully at Burnaby General Hospital on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Helmer William (Joe) Josephson was born in Merritt, BC on August 19, 1924, and had lived in South Burnaby since 1954. Helmer is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley, daughter Lois (Gary), son Ted (Simone), grandchildren Davin (Alex), Brian, Michael (Shannon), and Jennifer, and brothers Bert and Bruce. Helmer served with the RCAF in 1943, was a graduate of UBC in Chemical Engineering in 1950, and had been retired since 1988. He most enjoyed spending time with his loving family, whether it was playing cards, helping with projects, or just being Gramps. Among many things, Helmer will be remembered for his big smile, great sense of humour, graciousness and generosity, with always a sparkle in his eye. Although his presence will be truly missed, he leaves us with a lifetime of memories to cherish and remember him by, and allow those that knew him to ensure his spirit will live on in us. MADDEN John Robert (Jack) December 20, 1929 - November 3, 2009 Passed away peacefully in Surrey at the age of 79. He is survived by his loving family, and wife Pat of 55 years, predeceased by his son Shaun. Survived by his sons Kelly (Debi), Larry (Carol-Ann) and 2 daughters, Madalene(Ed), Tracey (Byron), 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Jack was a shingle packer working his last 20 years with Teal Cedar. He enjoyed his travelling and spending time at their cabin at Timothy Lake. MARKWART Martha September 30, 1919 - November 5, 2009 Martha Markwart of West Vancouver (formerly Port Coquitlam) passed away peacefully on November 5, 2009. Martha was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2001 and son Dale in August, 2009. She will be sadly missed by her son Warren (Rekha), daughter Cindy (Kim), daughter-in-law Lilian; grandchildren Laura (Jack), Daniel, Christopher (Karen), Ryan (Sarah), Roxanne, Miranda, Nedda and Kyle; great-grandchildren Anica, Saeda, Emily, Hannah, and Brannan. Martha was born in Hague, Saskatchewan and spent her early years on the farm with 3 sisters and 1 brother. Martha married Bill in 1946 when he returned from World War II and they opened their first jewellery store in Saskatchewan. The family moved to B.C. in 1950 and operated hardware stores in Osoyoos and later in Chilliwack. In 1962 Bill returned to the jewellery business in Abbotsford and in 1969 they made their final move to Port Coquitlam and operated Markwart Jewellers until their retirement in 1982. Mom and Dad spent the next 15 years as "snowbirds" every winter in Mesa, Arizona. Grandma loved to cook and our favourites were her cinnamon buns and apple pies. She was a very strong willed lady who will be dearly missed! We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Inglewood Care Centre and the Lion's Gate Hospital. MCDONALD Adina "Dee" (nee Tulman, Rouvier) Born June 2, 1923 passed away tragically on October 28, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 26 years Hugh, sisters Tabea, Lily (Dan), Hilda (Dan), Elizabeth (Karl), brother Harold (Alice), sisters-in-law Anne, Dorothy and Ida and numerous nieces and nephews. Adina taught elementary school in Canada, Scotland and France over a period of 42 years. She loved gardening, travelled extensively and was an active volunteer in her community. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. REED Donald Harold August 8, 1913 - October 18, 2009 Passed away peacefully in Surrey, B.C. He was born in Toronto, the only child of Ralph and Ruby Reed. Don was a loving husband to Jorie for 67 years, who passed away on July 18, 2009. Don and Jorie were long-time residents of Surrey and South Burnaby. They raised Samoyeds for over 30 years and loved to garden. In his career as an Accountant he worked in Toronto and the Vancouver area and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Vancouver 68. He also served in the RCAF in WWII in Alaska. Don is survived by his daughter, Barbara and granddaughter, Lisa. ROSS - Alvin (Al) Murray With great sadness we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Al Ross, on November 5th, 2009. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Lorraine (2007), sister Margaret and niece Diana. Al was born in Pritchard, BC on May 4th, 1926 and grew up in the east end of Vancouver. He joined the army after high school and later the Vancouver Fire Department in 1951. He loved his job as well as volunteering his time with the retired Fireman's Golfers, the Firefighter's softball teams, and was a founding member of the Firefighter's Social and Athletic Club at Bonsor. Al retired as District Chief in May 1986. Al enjoyed family gatherings and cherished his "girlies", daughters Cheryl and Cindy (Pat), and granddaughters Carly (Craig), Kristi, and Brittany. He was always very supportive and loved attending his granddaughters sporting events and dance recitals. He is survived by his girls and his brother Howie. Gramps' sense of humour and laughter will be greatly missed by his granddaughters "Bubbly","Fingers" and "The Little One" and his pet cat "Pally". SVEDIC Bob October 14, 1940 - October 19, 2009 We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Bob and his two brothers, Dusan and Alexandar. Bob was born in Belgrad and then travelled to Munich where he learned his life long profession of designing and manufacturing in plexi-glass. He was very proud of his accomplishments throughout the years in his business in Vancouver. He was a very loving and generous man who always had a smile and loved to laugh. HADLEY, Waltromd (Trudy) With deepest sorrow, the family of Waltromd (Trudy) Hadley announces her passing on October 31, 2009 at Victoria Hospice at age 68. Before her long illness she worked for U.V.C. School of Public Administration in Sector Mgm. holding a diploma. She was a beautiful person in so many ways. With excellent help from our doctors and nurses she enjoyed a good number of years travelling and the company of a wide circle of friends. Leaving behind Gisela and Karl Kuester and family, her niece Evelyn and Rosylyn and family, the Eckert family and her best friend Maria who was so helpful to her in many ways, friends Ursula, Evika, Susan, Audrey, all the people in her bridge club, as well her neighbours at Oak Hill Estates.
