PAVEY , Susan Mary (nee Dorscht) August 11, 1948 - November 5, 2009 Susan Pavey, beloved wife of Ken Ross of Airdrie, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the age of 61 years. Susan is survived by her loving husband, Ken; sons, Jeff (Gwen) and Murray (Teresa) Wheeler; stepsons, Bryan (Roseen) and Dean (Tammy) Ross; grandchildren, Braden Ross, Devon Ross, Courtnay Lavhey, Dylan Wheeler and Maggie Wheeler; three sisters, Nancy Gardner, Judy Palsa and Sally Chantler; two brothers, Don and Doug Dorscht as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Irene Dorscht and her Aunt Dorothy. BRISEBOIS, Armand Henri On November 4, 2009, Mr. Armand Brisebois of Edmonton, formerly of Drayton Valley, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 years. He is survived by two sons, Cliff (Noella) of Drumheller and Jim of Edmonton; one daughter, Jenny (Joe) Sparrow of Wetaskiwin; eight grandchildren, Monique, Danielle, Olivia, Blaine, Jason, Amanda, Dana and Justin; one great-grandson, Tyson; mother, Alice Starling of Drayton Valley; two sisters, Therese (Bob) Mann of Stony Plain and Maria Swap of 100 Mile House, BC; two brothers, Alphonse (Liz) of Slave Lake, Conrad of Breton and numerous other family and friends. PURSCHKE, Mary August 28, 1923 - November 5, 2009 After a long, painful and tiring journey, Mary is at peace with her Heavenly Father. She passed away November 5, 2009 with her family at her side at the age of 86. Mom will be remembered as a tireless worker who put the needs of her family ahead of her own. She was not only a devoted mother but a wonderful cook, accomplished seamstress and prize winning gardener who passed her expertise on to her daughters: Diane, Teresa, Valerie, Connie, Elaine, Sharon and Aimie. Her sons: Richard, Larry, Dennis, Randy, Tim and Donnie are already missing her famous cabbage rolls and perogies. Mary is fondly remembered by her sisters: Anne and Elizabeth and her brother Harry. She is survived by numerous family members including stepsons: Norman, Bernie, Ernest and Dane; as well as multitudes of grand and great-grandchildren. STEWART, Mervin Douglas January 14, 1924 - October 21, 2009 Merv D. Stewart, well-known Edmonton businessman, died October 21, 2009 at the age of 85 years. For several years Merv bravely faced the challenges of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's with his wife at his side. For many of us it was difficult to accept our loss even though we know death leaves us no choice. The many lives you touched and inspired we came to know as we said our good byes to you. CZEPAK Johann May 6, 1915 - Nov 4, 2009It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He died peacefully in his sleep. He was born in Hemelingen, Germany and was trained as a plumber, gas fitter and sheet metal craftsman. He came to Canada in 1955 with his wife, Rosalia, daughters Renate and Ursula and son, Ansgar (Tony). He has another son, John Paul, born in Vancouver. He has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Johann was always devoted to his family and had a strong faith in God. He believed in taking pride in everything he did and was the consummate perfectionist. He will be missed by all. BACKSTROM, Dr. Alvin Roland M.D., F.R.C.S. (C) Otolaryngology, B.Sc (Pharm) June 2, 1928 - November 3, 2009 On November 3, in the arms of his loving wife, Al Backstrom gently slipped his earthly bonds. Al leaves his wife of 52 years, Ann (Kickham); children MaryAnn (Jim MacGregor, children Clare, Davis and Carolann), Brian, Laura (Pierre Cayer, sons Gabriel and Charles) and Carol (David Hrycun, daughters Teddy and Alexa). He also leaves his brother Rune (Joyce, and their children) and sister Eleanor (Jerry Thomson, and their children). Al was predeceased by his oldest brother Melvin at a young age, and by his parents Albert and Milda, both Swedish immigrants. Al was born and raised in Edmonton. He obtained a Pharmacy degree from the University of Alberta in 1950, then studied Medicine at the U of A, while working at the U of A Tuck Shop pharmacy, the Macdonald Hotel pharmacy and others. Al graduated in 1956, interning at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, practiced family medicine for nine years in Trail, B.C., then specialized in otolaryngology at McGill University in Montreal. He returned to Edmonton in 1969 and practiced E.N.T. with Dr. Larry Diduch for nearly 30 years until transitioning from active practice to consulting for the Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta, until 2003. Al worked at the General and Misericordia Hospitals, serving more than 30 years at the Misericordia including terms as Chief of Otolaryngology and Chief of Surgery. Other work and appointments include: E.N.T. Consultant for the Seton Hospital in Jasper, Cross Cancer Institute and the W.C.B., Board of Director member of the Alberta Medical and Canadian Medical Associations, U of A Alumni Faculty Representative for Medicine, President of the Medical Alumni Association, the Academy of Medicine and the Alberta Society of Otolaryngology. Al enjoyed Jasper, Banff, the cabin at Pigeon Lake, his own backyard by Whitemud Ravine, his second home in Victoria and his friends and family. His exceptional intelligence and wit, sense of fun and caring concern for others will be missed. His family would like to thank his friends who kept in touch, and the excellent health professionals who cared for him in the last 16 months, including the caregivers at St Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital and especially the nursing staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital unit 52. David Robert Ridsdale The family of David Robert Ridsdale are saddened to announce his passing on Thursday November 5, 2009 at RUH. Born May 25, 1925, George & Alice Ridsdale raised their youngest son on the family farm near Asquith. It was there that he developed his passion for horses and love of the land. At eighteen he joined the military and was assigned to the Reconnaissance Corp. After the war, he returned to Asquith where he met his lifelong love, Edith Gunnlaugson, whom he married in June of 1948. Six months later he and his brother Fred started the Ridsdale Bros. Transport Company; one of the early trucking companies in the province. In those days, trucking demanded a man with a strong back and an equally strong will, which Dave had in plenty. As the communities they serviced recognized their hard work, the business grew. Dave enjoyed his work, making lifelong friends of customers and employees along the way and when Fred left the business Dave continued on. He had a fierce loyalty to his long-term employees, which made his work the true definition of a family business. He was an active advocate for the industry, acting as the president of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association in 1980-1981 and earning a Lifetime Achievement Award. As the business grew, so did Dave and Edith's family. He worked long hours during the week in order to have weekends filled with fun and laughter with his children. In the early years, Dave and Edith took time to camp and picnic and would later build their cabin at Lower Fishing Lake where Dave could be found almost every weekend in the summer driving the boat for waterskiers or fueling snowmobiles in winter. On his 70th birthday Dave took his last turn on the water-skis. At home in the winter, he always had time to maintain his backyard rink, coach hockey, Dave's door was always open and anyone who came was warmly welcomed. Dave retired in 1989 to his acreage where he was able to return to the farm life. While he was continuously busy improving the acreage, he always had time for a cup of coffee with a visitor. Their home was, as always, a hub of activity and the center of many family gatherings. During those years Dave and Edith enjoyed traveling all over North America together. Unfortunately, Alzheimer's Disease limited his ability to remain on the farm and enjoy the life he loved. Dave inspired those who knew him with the strength with which he fought to continue be the man we loved. Dave spent the last eleven months of his life at the Luther Care Home where he continued to struggle with the disease. It is in honor of this struggle that the family would ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society Of SK (1405 Faulkner Crescent, Saskatoon, SK S7L 3R5) or Luther Care Home, Temperance Munroe Wing Recreation Fund (1212 Osler Street, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0T9. BUENAVENTURA , Oscar We announce with sadness the passing of Oscar Buenaventura on Monday, November 2, 2009. He was dearly cared for by his sisters Ester and Norah, and nephew Alex. MILLER , Daley Rae December 20, 1988 - November 4, 2009 Our beloved Daley was taken from us on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. She was our daily ray of sunshine, from her first smile to her last cheery goodbye. Daley was born in Edmonton on December 20, 1988 and grew up in Bozeman, MT, Leduc, AB and Calgary. She graduated from Lord Beaverbrook High School in 2007 and had plans to attend Bow Valley College. Daley had a brilliant musical voice and an artistic eye. She liked to try new things: scuba with her dad, recipes from her mom, or camping with her friends. She loved to entertain friends, to make a fashion statement and to rest securely in the love of her family. Daley will be forever loved and terribly missed by her parents Harold and Lindsey Miller; her sisters Quinn and Drew; and her brother McLean. She will also be loved and remembered by her grandparents, Donna Miller and Don and Illona Baskier; as well as Fred and Judi Miller (Lance and Heather, Fiona, Tyler and Michelle), Al and Kari Miller (Clayton, Dena and Matt), Sandy Miller, Lois Miller (Kate, Will, Thomas, and Emily), Leanne and Stephen Dow, Laurie and Heath Schneider (Tessa and Zackary) and Clayton and Becky Baskier (Renna, Brooklyn and Lynae). WASALASKO , James Richard May 4, 1954 - November 5, 2009 James (Jim) Wasalasko, beloved husband of Gloria Wasalasko of Calgary, passed away on November 5, 2009 at the age of 55 years after a brave battle with cancer. McINTOSH, Donald Dr. Donald McIntosh passed away peacefully at Misericordia Hospital, on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the age of 72 years, after a courageous battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. BOLAND, Janine (nee Wood) 1929 - 2009 Janine passed away on November 4 in Pointe Claire after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Janine ws born in France. Daughter of George E. Wood and Yvonne Forget Wood. Janine worked at Lakeshore General Hospital for more than twenty years as a social worker. She was a caring and compassionate woman who always put others first, she will be missed by those who knew her. Janine was sister to the late Monique Masson and Dr. George Wood. She is survived by her sister Lillian Simms, children Peter, John and Michele Boland, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by devoted friends J. Karjala and Ilene Wallace.
