MONTAGUE, Bernard R. "Monty" 1924 - 2009 Bernard R. "Monty" Montague, beloved husband of Genevieve, passed away in his eighty-sixth year, on Saturday October 31, 2009. He was the loving father of Debbie (Ken), Chris (Linda) and Michael (Lise). He was the proud grandfather of Lindsay (Mike), Philip, Jennifer (Phillip), Amanda (Andrew) and Russell. He is also survived by his brother Roland (Ruth). He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was a longtime employee of Bell Canada, retiring in 1984. He loved to spend time with his family. He and Genevieve enjoyed traveling throughout North America and other parts of the world. MILLS, Helen Elsie On October 29, 2009 Helen Elsie Mills of Edmonton, AB, formerly of Wildwood AB, passed away at the age of 87 years. Better known as Elsie, she is survived by her brother Alexander (Sandy) Olesiuk, her sons Fred (Therese) Mills, Walter (Audrey) Mills, Richard, Ed and Joe Mills, her daughters Phyllis (Russ) Henley, Connie (Brian) Cherneske, Linda Mills, son-in-law Bill Podgurny, twenty-one grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, extended family and her friends. She was predeceased by her husband John E. Mills, parents Demyho and Ohaphia Olesiuk, brothers Ted and John Olesiuk, sister Vera Davis, son Gordon Mills and her daughter Kathy Podgurny. She was born in Poland and arrived in Canada at a very young age. The family settled in Wildwood and took up farming. She later moved to Edmonton, working as a seamstress for GWG. After she was married, she continued with farming and helping to run a lumber mill. She was an outstanding woman who could handle any challenges. In her later years she operated a restaurant called Elsie's Place in Wildwood. She was a very active member in the Wildwood and Edmonton Royal Canadian Legion and was awarded many tributes by the Legion. She fulfilled her dream of going to Alaska, she made quilts and other crafts, showing and selling them at various shows and was always interested to learn about new things. She had an easy friendliness that charmed people of all ages and a knack of dispensing just the right advice. She will be missed. A Celebration of Elsie's life will be held on Wednesday November 4th at 2:30 p.m. in the Howard and McBride Westlawn Chapel, 16310 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton Alberta, T5P 4A6, with Pastor Russ Graff officiating. One hour (1:30 to 2:30 p.m.) has been set aside for viewing prior to services. Internment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. HARRIS , Jonathan Evan June 12, 1984 - October 29, 2009 It is with profound sorrow and disbelief that we share the news of the death of our beloved son and brother Jonathan Evan Harris on Thursday, October 29, 2009. Although his life was cut short, it was lived with gentleness, kindness, joy, quiet humour, wit, richness, integrity, and pure love. Jonathan's warm-hearted nature and overflowing love for family and friends near and far will be remembered by all those whose lives he touched. Jonathan was the beloved son of Elizabeth and Glenn Harris; big brother and best friend to Laura Harris; grandson of Iris and the late Sydney Dove and of Ron Harris and Mary Trickey; great-nephew, nephew, cousin, and dear to the hearts of extended family across Canada. Jonathan loved God without reservation and gladly served Him. He shared his faith with others at Parkdale Evangelical Missionary Church, Bow Waters Community Church, and St. George's Anglican Church, throughout school, and in his everyday life. He was educated at Douglas Harkness Elementary, Clarence Sansom Junior High, Lester B. Pearson High School, and Mount Royal College. Jonathan was passionate about his career as a technical writer first at Worley Parsons Komex, and most recently at Shaw Cable. His passions included his love for photography and he flourished through his association with individuals and groups of photographers locally and internationally. SCHREIBER , Edna Ann July 29, 1956 - October 30, 2009 Edna Schreiber, beloved wife of Brian McNamara for twenty-seven years and cherished mother to Reid McNamara for sixteen years, passed peacefully away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the age of 53 years after a five year battle with Multi Myeloma cancer. She was born in Edmonton, AB and raised on the family farm close to Dapp, Edna took on every challenge with energy, drive and commitment. She graduated from NAIT in 1976 and pursued a successful career in computer systems development until she moved to the Middle East country of Yemen with Brian and Reid. For three years Edna flourished into a woman of the world with great sensitivity to those less fortunate and she reached out to them through charity work, love and compassion. During the past five years, Edna and Brian were business partners in a sign manufacturing company. This was also the time that she fought for her life and twice triumphed over insurmountable odds to lead a life rich in family, friends, work and travel. Edna never gave up the fight and continued to help family and friends to the very end. Besides her loving husband and son, she is survived by her parents, Karl and Enid Schreiber of Westlock, her sister Konnie Kepford and her two sons Cole and Aden of Calgary plus many relatives and dear friends throughout the world. BEJ, Alex - On Friday, October 30, 2009, Alex died peacefully with his family by his side after a valiant fight with cancer at the age of 66. Beloved husband of Anna Bej for 35 years. Loving father of Maria (Donald) Fellows, Burlington, and Stephanie Bej (Michael Christian). Proud "Didi" of Olena Fellows. Beloved son-in-law of Maria and Walter Petryszyn, St. Thomas. Also survived by many brothers and sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Roman and Julia Bej, both in 1999. Alex was born in Szczawne, Poland in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains on October 23, 1943 and immigrated to Canada in 1962. Family and friends were a great focus in Alex's life, along with the love of nature and music. Community work was an important part of his life, with children's needs being an integral focus of that work. From 1969-72, he attended Mohawk College in Hamilton earning a diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology. He was a longtime member of St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Point Edward Optimist Club and he supported the Kiwanis Club of Sarnia. Alex will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but memories of his laughter and gentle humour will live on. Listen for the whispers of lingering laughter. The love we share will be forever. FERGUSON, Gerald Noble The family of G.N. (Gerry) Ferguson sadly announce his passing on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Gerry is survived by his wife Joan of Moose Jaw; and by Doris Ferguson, Saskatoon, the mother of his children Sandra (John) Read, Calgary; Judy (Mike Sauter), Carlyle; and Bruce, Saskatoon. He is also survived by two grandsons Rhett (Kelly)Read, Anchorage, Alaska; and Michael Read (Lindsay Mullaly), Calgary. Also surviving him are his stepchildren Susan (Marlin) Maas; Brenda Ashworth, and Gail Kittelson, all of Weyburn. Papa Ger will also be missed by step grandchildren Chris Maas (Jessica Wilton); Meaghan Maas; Jennifer Ashworth (Mike Szczecinski); Sydney Ashworth, Karter Ashworth and Dawsen Ashworth all of Weyburn along with two great grandsons Matthew Read of Anchorage, Alaska and Vladimir Szczecinski of Weyburn. Gerry also leaves to mourn his sister Anne Lambert, Bellingham, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers George, Walter, Arthur and Allan and sister Zada. Gerry was born Feb 17, 1926 in Sonningdale, SK. He joined the army in 1944 and following discharge worked as a mechanic until he was employed by Beaver Lumber Company in 1952 until 1979. He was store manager in Viscount, Arcola, Carlyle, and Weyburn. After a short time selling National Homes packages, he went to work in the wholesale end of the lumber business until his retirement in 1991, when he took part time employment once again in retail lumber in Fort Qu'Appelle for the next 6 years, after which he retired to Moose Jaw. Gerry was very active in the communities in which he lived, serving on board of trade, Arcola, as town councilor in Carlyle, and received a community service award in Weyburn. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of Anavets. A salesman at heart Gerry won numerous sales achievement awards. He loved music and loved to sing. He sang in Church Choirs as well as Barbershop Quartets, Balcarres Fireside Singers, Legion Singers and Moose Jaw Senior Association choir. He fondly remembered marching down Moose Jaw's Main Street playing drums with the Carlyle Band and later with the Legion Band. November 11th was important to Gerry and we'll remember his enjoyment of the sing-alongs singing with comrades after the Remembrance Services. So please wear a poppy in remembrance of Gerry as our hearts are filled with sadness for a soldier died today. Known for his love of his dogs, and pride in serving his community and country, it's Gerry's wish that friends so desiring make contributions to the Humane Society or to the Legion Poppy Fund in lieu of flowers. KOPALA, Hannah Passed away peacefully, at Kelowna General Hospital, on October 26, 2009 at the age of 81. Hannah was born July 8, 1928 in Coal Creek, B.C. and moved at a young age to Vancouver, B.C. where she eventually met Chester Kopala. They married November 12, 1954. In the early 1960s they moved to Edmonton, Alberta where their daughter, Cindy, came into their lives. In 1967, Hannah helped her husband, Chester, and his business partner, Jack Dilworth, start a very successful Electrical Company: K & D Electric. In 1981 Hannah and Cindy moved to Vancouver where Hannah worked in retail and in 1987 became a loving grandma to her first granddaughter: Laura. In 2003 Hannah moved to Kelowna to be with her family and spent the majority of her remaining days looking after her two youngest granddaughters: Michelle and Miranda. Hannah is survived by her daughter: Cindy; son-in-law: Larry; granddaughters: Laura, Michelle and Miranda; niece and husband: Gloria and Frank; along with their sons and families; and several other family members. Hannah was predeceased by her parents: Mary Anne and Walter Haile; brother: Walter Haile; sisters: Dorothy Holmes and Nora Cookhouse. Hannah was a loving mom, grandma, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kelowna General Hospital Foundation. Hannah repeatedly said how wonderful the staff there was to her, as were the ambulance drivers, and how much she wanted them all to know she appreciated it. DAVID, Robert 2009-10-31 DAVID Mr. Robert David, age 52 years, formerly of Lakeshore Dr. passed away with his family at his side on October 28th, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Robert was born in Hearst Ontario, on July 21st, 1957. He spent his childhood and teen years in Beardmore until he settled in Thunder Bay in 1977. Robert loved the outdoors, whether it was working or camping and fishing with his family in Graham. Robert was a bulldozer operator for Buchanen Forest Products for 20 years until 2005, when he was forced to retire due to his illness. Robert will always be remembered by his family and friends as a generous and happy go lucky person who always put others before himself. He met Cindy in 2000 and they spent 9 happy years together. Her children James and Heidi looked up to Robert and he treated them as his own. He shared a special bond with his children and grandchildren and one of his proudest moments was to celebrate his 50th birthday with the birth of his granddaughter Jacqueline. Robert was a social butterfly and we will all miss his daily phone calls to chat about politics and the weather. His grandson Ryder, as well as his nieces and nephews. Robert is survived by his common-law wife Cindy, children Jessica and Christopher. Step-children Heidi and James Wright. Grandchildren Ryder and Jacqueline. He is also survived by his brother Roger (Wanda). Sisters Linda (Bruce), and Laureen (Darryl), godson and nephew Nathan and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert is predeceased by his father Lucien (1991), mother Marie (2008), sister Diane (1995), brother John (2009) and a brother Marc in infancy. A Celebration of Life for Robert will be held from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on November 3rd, 2009 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #5 on Van Norman Street. Davis 2009-11-01 "Her Mom" - "Catherine" "She’s now safe in the arms of her mother" Mrs. Catherine Davis (nee:Massaro) age 84 years after a lengthy battle with cancer, passed away on Friday, October 30th, 2009 at Pinewood Court with her children at her side. She will lovingly be remembered by her family; daughter Teresa Morson, granddaughter Katherine Williams (Martin) and their son Maxwell, granddaughter Anna-Marie Hewitt (Anthony) and their children Emily, Elliott and Brennan, grandson James Morson (Cindy) and their children Mia and Carlie; son Bob Davis (Sharlene), grandson Clinton Davis and his son Bradley, granddaughter Melissa Demers and her children Joshua and Jessica. Catherine is also survived by brothers Frank Massaro (Alice Jean), John "Bunny" Massaro (Maxine), Sandy Massaro (Elizabeth) and sister in law Beverly Massaro also several nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Canada and Italy. Predeceased by husband George, parents, brothers Anthony and Albert Massaro, sister Mary Jacklin and grandson Robbie Davis. Catherine was a life member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veteran’s Assoc., Canadian Daughters League and the Ladies Auxiliary of the DaVinci Centre. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 when family and friends will gather at St. Dominic’s Church for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lapolla. Internment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery to follow. Vigil Prayers will be offered on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m in the Chapel of Jenkens Funeral Home celebrated by Rev. Mr. Larry Chlebovec. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial donations to The Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre or the Hummingbird Wing at Pinewood Court.

DUNBAR 2009-11-01 Mr. Douglas Roy Dunbar, 62 years, of Red Rock, Ontario passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 in the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, Nipigon, Ontario after a brief illness. Doug was a family man who enjoyed his son and grandsons hockey. He loved camping and the outdoors as well as a good card game or a day at the Casino. Doug was worked in Red Rock for Domtar Ltd. and then Norampac for thirty-five years. Predeceased by his mother Grace Dunbar and by a brother David Dunbar; he is survived by his wife Marlene (nee Maenpaa) of Red Rock, by two children – John (& Jennifer) Dunbar of Red Rock and Charlene Dunbar of Mission, British Columbia, by three grandchildren – Jordan, Jodi and Brianna, by three siblings – (Whitey) John (& Sylvia) Smith and Dorothy Spoljarich both of Red Rock and Donald Dunbar of Toronto, Ontario. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. According to Doug‘s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Doug Dunbar, in the care of Elliott Funeral Home Ltd., Nipigon will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 11 A.M. at Red Rock United Church, Red Rock, Ontario. Interment of cremains will be at a later date. Born in Cambridge, Mass., on October 5, 1930, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Morrison) Winn. Cherished mother of Gertrude Adams, Sambro, N.S.; Carolyn (Willard) Lewis, Cascumpec; Mary (Billy) Ellands, Ellerslie; Frank (Melissa) Banks, Summerside. Dear mother-in-law of Garry Wilson, Inverness; Kent Atherton, Saint John, N.B.; Lavenia Banks, Summerside. Loving grandmother of 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Dear sister of James Winn, Tyne Valley; Bryant (Carol) Winn, California; Walter (Darlene) Winn, Tennessee. Linus John "Weiner" Fitzsimmons, Dartmouth 50, of Dartmouth, passed away on October 28, 2009, in Dartmouth. Born in Halifax, he was a son of William Joseph and Mary Anne (Sullivan) Fitzsimmons. Linus loved fishing, hiking, motorcycles and spending time outdoors with his dog, Sherry. He was a graduate of Prince Andrew High School and worked in the family construction business since the age of 16. Linus was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 752 and at the time of his death, he was President of Multispan Builders. He was a kind-hearted, generous man who would help others in need and loved children. In his earlier years, Linus was involved with the St. Thomas More parish, the choir, altar boy and the Youth Challenge Program. Besides his parents, Linus is survived by brother, Michael (Sara Campbell); sisters, Catherine (Graham MacIntyre) Fitzsimmons and Rita (Chris Ellerker) Fitzsimmons MacDonald; nephew, Aaron MacDonald; girlfriend, Shelley Elliott and her children, Taryn and Riley; many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by grandparents, John and Rita (MacMaster) Sullivan, Linus and Catherine (Gillis) Fitzsimmons; great-grandmother, Catherine “Nanny” Sullivan. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St, Dartmouth.
