MANTYLA, Sointu Armas - In loving memory of Sointu Armas Mantyla, 68 years who passed away on Friday, October 16th, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital -St. Joseph's Site. Sointu Mantyla had in his life what most people only hope to achieve; simplicity and love. Sointu believed that the most important things in our life are not the items we accumulate, but the people who join us along the way. He loved his wife, adored his children and grandchildren and he made everyone who came into his life feel welcomed and special. He was able to do this because he kept things simple and he kept them in perspective. He knew that to be successful at life you need to be true to who you are. He demonstrated that each and every day. You always knew where you stood with him and he treated people fairly, and that is a gift not everyone is able to give. He loved to be outdoors, either hunting, walking in the woods or spending time at his beloved camp on Windy Lake. He loved to go blueberry picking with his late wife, Lea and they spent countless hours at Windy Lake enjoying the wonderful spot they created together. Sointu liked to laugh and he liked to joke with people and every one who came into contact knew without a doubt that he was genuine. Many years ago, Sointu came to Canada to make a better life for himself...and he achieved that beyond a doubt. He retired after 30 years with Falconbridge and he leaves behind him a group of friends and family who will miss him immensely. His life was lived with purpose and it was lived with love.Beloved husband of Lea (Jokela) Mantyla predeceased August 3rd, 2007. Loving father of Kari (friend Carol) and Rita (husband Rodi Riccio) both of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Kaela and Keira. Dear son of Vaino and Elli Mantyla both predeceased. Dear brother of Kaiju (husband Aeikki Tervala) of Dowling. Dear brother in law of Antero Jokela (wife Aune). Sadly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins and family in Sudbury and Finland. Born in Toholampi, Finland, he married Lea in 1964. Sointu worked as a miner at Falconbridge Nickel Mine for 30 years. Mr. Harry Mellish The death occurred at Perrin’s Clinton View Lodge on Saturday, October 17, 2009, of Harry Mellish, a veteran of the Second World War (RCAF), formerly of New Glasgow, age 91. Harry was the father of Ron (Marnie), Barry (Mary) and Sharon Moase (Wyman); grandfather of Steven Stairs, Carolyn Pater, Nathan Stairs and Kevin Stairs; Melissa MacKay, Michael and Jonathan Mellish; Cory and Andrew Burke; and great-grandfather of six. He is also survived by his brother, Reg; sister-in-law, Hope Matthews; and son-in-law, Darrell Stairs. COULDRIDGE, Meryl Anne - In loving memory of Meryl Anne (Henderson) Couldridge, 65 years who passed away on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at her home. Beloved wife of Reginald David Couldridge. Loving mother of Ian (wife Fiona) of Keswick and Paul serving with the Armed Forces. Cherished grandmother of Cassandra, Bryce and Tyler. Dear daughter of Robert and Marion Henderson both predeceased. Dear sister of Robert predeceased. Sadly missed by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Canada and overseas. Born in London, England, she was proud of her Welsh heritage. She was a dressmaker for the Royal family, moving to Canada she became a commissioner of Oaths and to Keeper of the Records for the Province of Ontario, serving in Toronto for 16 years. She and Reg moved to Webbwood where they owned and operated the Celtic Motel and campsite, then moved to Chelmsford and finally settled in Capreol in 2006. She continued her life long love of sewing, working at Lynn's Place. Meryl served with the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Capreol Branch. She was a committed and active volunteer serving with Lion's Clubs in Valley East, Chelmsford and Sudbury. She enjoyed working annually at the Christmas Telethon, Meryl was a member of St. Alban the Martyr Church. She will be lovingly remembered as a woman who lived her life to help others. Pentti was born in Kannus, Finland and settled in Sudbury in early 1970's from Thunder Bay. A skilled tradesman, he owned and operated Pentti's Handyman Services for the past ten years, previously he had been a miner for various mining contractors. Always quick to help others, Clara had been a volunteer for many worthy causes. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles.
