HOSAK Irene Mary (nee Hovey) August 9, 1923 - October 14, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Irene Hosak on October 14 at the ACE unit of VGH. She will be greatly missed by her children Carole Lockie, William Hosak (Deborah), Jim Hosak, her sisters Anna Hutchings, Betty D'Andrea and her brother Ronald Hovey. Irene will be immensely missed by her grandchildren Mark and Janet Hosak with whom she spent countless days and family vacations and also her many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the Willingdon Park Care Centre nursing staff and care aids for the wonderful care they provided. Irene will be fondly and lovingly remembered for her feisty nature and will always be in our hearts. No service by request. A family and friends memorial will be held at a later date. SILVESTRO, Jo Anne (nee Malizia) Peacefully at home surrounded by family, on October 17, 2009, at 68 years of age. Beloved wife of 49 years to Alex. Cherished mother of David Silvestro, and Mary Jane and husband Michael Gruenfeld. Adored nana of Matthew, Andrew, and Geoffrey Bickerstaff. Loving daughter of the late Domenic and Teresa Malizia. Cherished daughter-in-law of Maria and the late Giovanni Silvestro. Dear sister of Patrick and his wife Sue Malizia, and Vera and her husband Akel Jarrouge. Loving zizi of Dan Jarrouge and Sarah Carter, Sonya and her husband Randy Doyle, Steve Jarrouge and Nancy Mahon, Richard Malizia, Domenic Malizia, Teresa and her husband George Pedro, and Angela and her husband John Seguin. She will be sadly missed by many great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She was retired from G.K. Workwear and was working for P.W.D. at Costco (Sample Lady). PINK , John Douglas October 23, 1955 - October 16, 2009 John, beloved husband of Jasna Bakic of Calgary, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the age of 53. Consistent with how John handled life, he battled cancer with dignity, humour, determination, strength and courage. He was born in New Westminster, B.C. and moved to Kamloops in 1961 at the age of six. John graduated from Kamloops Sr. Secondary School in 1973 and furthered his studies at the University of Alberta earning a B. Ed in Secondary Science Education in 1978. John taught for a number of years at Brocklehurst Jr. High School in Kamloops. He pursued a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Calgary and completed his MBA in 1987. John held various positions in Calgary; most recently as a co-founder of Novapure Systems, a company specializing in mold detection and remediation. John was predeceased by his mother Queenie Pink earlier this year and his father Tory in 1965. John has left to mourn his wife Jasna Bakic, daughter Tanja Bakic, sister Brenda Pink and stepfather Tom Lawrie. John, fondly known as "Rooster" is one of those rare individuals that deeply touched so many lives. He will be dearly missed by his relatives and by the extraordinarily large circle of close friends he gathered along life's road. LEE, Richard Normand “Duke“ - In Loving Memory of Richard Normand “Duke” Lee 75 years who passed away at the Sudbury Regional Hospital-Memorial Site, on Saturday, October 17th, 2009. Loving father of Kenny (predeceased, surviving wife Cecile Lee of Sudbury), Carl Lee (wife Louise) of Hanmer, Allan Lee of Sudbury and Normand Lee of Vancouver. Cherished grandfather of Kayla Lee, Amanda Lee, Samantha Cowper, Kenny Lee, Taylor Lee and Deric Edwards and great-grandfather of Taylor Lee Cowper. Dear brother of Ruth McGregor (husband Willy) of Little Current and Mary Lee of Sudbury. Duke was born in Little Current on July 8th, 1934, son of Edna Pearl (nee Mills) and Richard Henry Lee, both deceased. For over 25 years, he had worked for Falconbridge (Smelter). During his spare time, he enjoyed working on word puzzles. He will be remembered as a quiet man who loved being with family. As per his wishes, there will be no visitation. DELVE , Ronald David November 28, 1947 - October 16, 2009 "We will all miss you, Ron." It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ron. He leaves to mourn his death: his wife of 31 years, Wendy Marie, son Ryan, granddaughter April, mother Isabel and sisters Pat (Bob) and Sandra (Ben), thirteen nieces and nephews and long-time friends Donna and Gerry, Pat and Bill, and Vivian and Al. Ron was predeceased by his father, William Delve. Ron was born in Winnipeg but lived in Calgary since 1973. He was an Instrumentation Mechanic for the City of Calgary at the Bonnybrook Sewage Plant for twenty-six years, retiring in 2007. Ron was a Shop Steward for the I.B.E.W. for twenty- years. He donated blood and plasma at the Canadian Blood Services receiving an award for one hundred and fifty donations. Worshipful Brother Ron was a Freemason and Past Master of Mosaic Lodge No. 176 as well as a member of Scottish Rite and the Forest Lawn Legion. Ron enjoyed wine making, travel, camping, fishing, being a "Handyman-Extraordinaire" and the newly discovered love for "Texas Hold'Em" (he will be missed by his Saturday night poker buddies). Ron was always there to offer a hand and to help in any way that he could. A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME. WONG Sing Hong June 4, 1925 - October 13, 2009 Passed away peacefully after a long struggle with diabetes and kidney disease. Predeceased by his loving wife Meone and son-in-law Chun. Survived by his second wife Kam Fung Yung, sons Raymond (Rosita), Fred (Judy), Warren (Annie), Kenneth (Judy), Wesley (Voy) and daughters Linda, Violet (Jason), Jeanne (Ken) and Alice (Walter), 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Born in Hong Hong, immigrated to Vancouver with his wife where they raised their children with the help of his family in Hong Kong. Later in his life Dad was able to fulfil his longtime love of world travel. He had a good sense of humour, especially with his friends who knew him as Albert. He loved playing cards and going to the horse races. DENNIS SPARROW 1941 2009 The family of Dennis Sparrow is deeply saddened to announce his death on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at St. Paul's Hospital. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Norma; son, Jay; daughter, Lisa (Wayne Moellenbeck) and granddaughters Grace and Kate; as well as one brother, Doug (Morag) and their sons, Ron, Graham (Allison), Mitchell and Tim; nephew, Todd (Charlotte); nieces, Tammie (Mike) Smishek, Terri (Warren) Epp; uncles, Alan (Nancy), Herb (Lois); aunts, Barbara, Beatrice; aunt, May Crawford; brother-in-law, Larry (Sheila) Skaros; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his extended family in Norway. He was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Phyllis; parents-in-law, Norman and Edith Skaros; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Shirley; nephew, Ryan Skaros; uncles, Doug, Merle, and Robbie (Helen) Sparrow; uncles, Frank, Art, Stan, and Cliff Crawford; and aunt, Myrtle Lenson. Dennis had a long and successful career with Sasktel until 1993. He soon started with Westwood Funeral Chapel and worked until his second retirement in 2007. Dennis was a valuable member of the Scandinavian Club, Sasktel Pioneers, Probus club, and the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Dennis will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and his many friends and associates. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Westwood Funeral Chapel (1402 20th St. W.) on Tuesday evening, October 20th, 2009 from 7:00 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church (Preston Ave. and Main St.) on Wednesday, October 21st at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception and interment at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pentti was born in Kannus, Finland and settled in Sudbury in early 1970's from Thunder Bay. A skilled tradesman, he owned and operated Pentti's Handyman Services for the past ten years, previously he had been a miner for various mining contractors. He enjoyed golfing and socializing with his friends. Pentti will be remembered for his inspired work ethic. Beloved life partner of Suzanne Auld. Dear son of Onni and Lilja Pajala both predeceased. ZANATTA, Clara (nee Tessaro) - In loving memory of Clara (nee Tessaro) Zanatta 86 years, who passed away Saturday October 17th, 2009 at the SRH- Laurentian Site. A well liked and respected life resident of Copper Cliff. She married Herman Zanatta in 1953. She was a devout Roman Catholic who attended St. Stanislaus Church and she was a life member of the parish CWL. She was a life member and past president of the Copper Cliff Italian Society. Always quick to help others, Clara had been a volunteer for many worthy causes. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She was a gracious host who warmly welcomed family and friends into her home. Clara will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and Nonna. Beloved wife of Herman Zanatta, predeceased 1997. She was at her home, in her favourite room - the kitchen - and her passing was as quick as she always hoped it would be. Left behind to mourn are her five children and their families: Janet (Toni), grandchildren, Biran, Troy, Angelica and Tia; Ian, grandson, Luc; Andrew (Karen), step-grandson, Tyler; Cate (Tom), grandkitties, Sigi and Simone; Bruce (Lisa) and granddaughter, Nia. As well, she leaves two stepsons, John and Jim Mahood and step-grandchildren, Mitchell and Brittany. Also mourning are her first husband and friend, Doug Hanington, her close friend and sister, Pat (Bill) Brocklesby, brothers Bob (Kathleen) Stokes, Pete (Signy) Stokes, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her second husband Joseph Mahood. HAWLEY, Wesley Philip February 12, 1922 - October 17, 2009 It is with sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our gentle Dad and husband. Wes is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Josephine. SHAUN ELWOOD SOMERVILLE March 11, 1960 October 17, 2009 Predeceased by his father, Dr. A. E. (Ed) Somerville; grandparents and treasured uncle, George Somerville. Shaun died at St. Paul's Hospital following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his angel Karen O'Keefe; mother, Bev Somerville; sisters, Kerry (Mike), Kathryn (Damon); brother, Jeffery (Julia); and his six nephews and one niece; as well as Karen's daughter, Tonya and her children, Gabriel and Jaspar; lifelong friends, Andy and Tina Golebiewski; and first wife, Denise Thoen. Shaun was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, special service force and served as a peacekeeper in Cyprus. Following his military service he worked in the transportation industry, last employed by Calac Trucking. Shaun loved the outdoors and spent many happy times camping, fishing and hunting with his dad, they both especially enjoyed Loon Lake. Shaun shared many good times over the years with Andy. Shaun was a great storyteller and we expect he is now spinning yarns with his dad. Paola adored her childhood in Sicily. As a young woman, she came to Canada with her husband and young children. She will be remembered for her zest for life, her laugh, her Sunday dinners, and her enduring love for her family. Their love and support strengthened her until the end. Beloved wife of 54 years to Angelo. Cherished mother of Tina and the late Gaspare Novena, Maria and her husband Vito Lipari, Vincenzo and his wife Cheryl, Joe and his wife Trudy, Ezio & Jennifer, and Danny & Melissa. Adored nonna of Angela, Robert, Adriana & Justin, Melissa, Angelo Jakob, Jordan, Matthew, & Nicholas. Predeceased by her parents Maria and Giuseppe Fazio. MYLES, James "Jim" Of Essex, passed away peacefully at Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital, on October 17, 2009, at 78 years of age. Beloved husband of Jean (nee King). Jim was the owner of Jim Myles Electric. He was a Life Member of Kinsmen Club of Essex and a member of the Canadian Historical Aircraft Association. Jim shared his love of Aircraft with his grandson, Drew. He loved gardening and passing on his produce to family and friends. Jim is resting at the Kennedy Funeral Home Ltd. Donna was a library technician with the Sudbury Board of Education. She devoted many hours helping others. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Arthritis Society Bluebird Club having served as president. She had a great affinity for animals and she will be missed by her canine buddy Darby. DARISSE Dorothy Coony Dorothy Coony est décédée paisiblement au CSSS du Grand Littoral de Ste-Marie Bce, le 11 octobre 2009 à l'âge de 99 ans. Née à Rochester (New York), elle a passé sa vie principalement dans la ville de Québec. Sa vie a été inspirée par trois grandes passions: l'amour de sa famille, la musique et la paix dans le monde. Elle était l'épouse de feu Gilbert Darisse, la soeur de feu Wilma Gruenauer (Frank) et la mère de feu John (Francine Côté). Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Jeannine (Onil Boutin) de Ste-Marie Bce, Richard (Sharon Shulz) de Buffalo (New York), Eva (feu Frank Stelmack) de Rochester (New York) et Alan (Robin Currie) d'Ottawa, ainsi que ses petits-enfants: Nancy, Patrick, Sandra, Laurent, Robert, David, René, Charles, Jennifer, Nicole, Nathan, Ethan, Mimi, Renée et Julian; ses 20 arrière-petits-enfants.
