DILETZOY, Joe George On October 16, 2009 Joe George passed away peacefully to be with our Lord. At his side was his wife of 55 years, Elianne, and their children. Joe is survived by Elianne, five children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Dolores (Claude), Craig (Louise), Ethan and Avery, Lisa, and Jarred; Theresa (Lorence), Ian and Neil; Gary (Earla), Kyle, Kevin, and Connor; Monica (Rene); Jackie (John), Carlie and Spencer. Joe will also be remembered fondly by his sisters, Mary, Ann, Sarah, and Florence; and many other relatives and friends. HARRY ROBERT EICHEL passed away on September 13, 2009 at the Lodge in Kindersley where he was temporarily residing. Dad was born on the 13th of January, 1925 in Eston, Sask. He was raised on the family farm south of Madison, Sask. He took his schooling at Longridge School up to Grade 10 and then went to Madison to complete Grades 11 and 12. In May of 1942, at the age of 17, Dad joined the Air Force and finished his flight training in May of 1945; he never got into action overseas. Dad married Ethel Threlkeld on July 16, 1946. They lived in Regina prior to moving to the Threlkeld farm in the spring of 1947. They farmed there for 41 years, enjoying both livestock and grain farming. Dad's life was never quite the same when he lost Mom, his life partner, in January, 2003. Dad was also predeceased by his parents Harris & Eva Eichel, brothers George and Carl Eichel, sisters Helen Hewlitt and Margaret Francis and son-in-law Bill Thompson. He was also predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Ivy Eichel, Bill Hewlitt, Russell Francis and Keith MacKinnon. Surviving are: his sister, Mary MacKinnon, and sister-in-law Zella Eichel; his children Doug Eichel (Jeanette), Diane Collins (Keith), Brenda Fischer (Harvey), Shirley Japp (Kerry); his ten grandchildren, Regan (Geoff) Horn, Trista (Lee) Gallant, Keir Collins, Vaughan (Kim) Collins, Dallas (Brandi) Thompson, Duane (Stephanie), Billie Jean (Joe) Mepham, Mitchell (Leah) Japp, Marsha Japp (Todd), Angela Japp; his nine great grandchildren, Chase, Layne, Nate Gallant, Drew, Ayla Collins, Seth and Emma Thompson, Reece and Rylee Mepham. HRYTSAK Doris Alice (nee Maceluck) Born March 29th, 1941 in Edmonton. Doris passed away peacefully and with dignity on September 30th, 2009 at Crossroads Hospice in Port Moody after a long and brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Predeceased by her parents Daniel and Alice. Survived by her sisters Carol (Grant) Scott and Vera Maceluck; daughters Connie (Greg) Gibson and Andrea (Dave). She will be dearly missed by her beloved grandchildren Ethan and Abigail and Alexandrea Hrytsak, as well as by her niece's Lisha and Jen Scott. After raising her daughters, Doris returned to her calling; teaching elementary school. She was greatly respected by fellow teachers, students and parents. Doris had a gift for combining firmness and fairness and inspired a great enthusiasm for learning in all her students. "A powerhouse in the classroom" one colleague said. Her Christmas pageants of the Nativity were legendary with costumes to rival any professional play. She was also a gifted artist, world traveller, gardener, wonderful Mother and friend. She loved flowers of all kinds and pink was her favorite colour. Doris was a very active member of Como Lake United Church and in April 2009 was made a life member of the UCW. This honour reflected years of voluntary service inside and out of the church. A special lady who touched many lives, her loss will be felt by all who knew her. Celebration of Doris' life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 25th at Como Lake United Church, 535 Marmont St., Coquitlam, BC. Evelyn was born in Massey on January 19th, 1933, daughter of Dorothy (nee Wright) and John Witty, both deceased. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sharing a few good stories with her grandchildren. In her healthier years, she loved camping on Manitoulin Island and spending her winters in Texas. Playing cards and working on crafts also brought much joy to her life. SGAGGI , Ferminio (Frank) February 21, 1922 - October 16, 2009 Frank, beloved husband of Maria of Calgary, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the age of 87 years. Frank was born in Urbino, Italy on February 21, 1922. After he returned home from military service during the Second World War, Frank served as a police officer. In 1951 he immigrated to Canada where he met Maria, his wife of fifty-five years, and began his thirty-one-year employment with the City of Calgary. Frank loved being with his family and took great pride and joy in his grandchildren. He also took pride in his homemade wine and looked forward to making it with his family every year. Besides his loving wife Maria, Frank is survived by his children: Mariella (Lee) Rathwell, Lorena Sgaggi, Domenic (Brenda) Sgaggi and Sandra Sgaggi, grandchildren: Lisa (Mike), Mark (Erin), Nicolas and Andrew, his brother and best friend Nino (Rita) Sgaggi, sisters: Vittoria (Italy) and Mentina (France), and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and France. She was truly an amazing lady, with the kindest, gentlest heart. She lived for her family and they were her life. The void that is left with her passing will be difficult to fill, but remembering the strength she always portrayed will help all of us through this difficult time. WILLIS (Sheppard), Emma Alberta January 19, 1908 - October 16, 2009 On Friday, October 16, 2009 Mrs. Alberta Willis of Wainwright, formerly of Galahad, Alberta passed away at the age of 101 years. She was predeceased by her husband Pete, in 1997, an infant daughter, Merle in 1940 and a son, Gary in 1975. She is survived by a host of relatives and friends. Among her close friends, Ken and Mary Warriner of Wainwright and Gene and Anna Whitehead of Kenaston, Saskatchewan. Throughout her life she was a dedicated Christian devoted to God and instrumental in the teaching of Sunday School at Galahad, Alberta where she spent most of her life. Alta and Pete left Galahad and moved into Battle River Lodge in Wainwright in May of 1995, she remained there until her health failed late in 2008 when she entered the Wainwright Extended Health Center. At Alberta's request no funeral will be held. A Graveside Service will take place on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Galahad Cemetery. Cherished Opa to Cecilia, Kathleen, Al & Bobbi Jo, Michael & Cheyenne, Brad, Jasmine, Jennifer & Bill, and Jessica, and Great Opa to A.J., Jacob, Dylan, Ciarra, and Baby Hanchar. Hank retired after serving 20 years in the R.C.A.F., and was an active member of the Canadian Air Force Association. He was the recipient of the NATO Special Services Medal and the C.D. Medal. MANTYLA, Sointu Armas - In loving memory of Sointu Armas Mantyla, 68 years who passed away on Friday, October 16th, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital -St. Joseph's Site. Sointu Mantyla had in his life what most people only hope to achieve; simplicity and love. Sointu believed that the most important things in our life are not the items we accumulate, but the people who join us along the way. He loved his wife, adored his children and grandchildren and he made everyone who came into his life feel welcomed and special. He was able to do this because he kept things simple and he kept them in perspective. He knew that to be successful at life you need to be true to who you are. He demonstrated that each and every day. You always knew where you stood with him and he treated people fairly, and that is a gift not everyone is able to give. He loved to be outdoors, either hunting, walking in the woods or spending time at his beloved camp on Windy Lake. He loved to go blueberry picking with his late wife, Lea and they spent countless hours at Windy Lake enjoying the wonderful spot they created together. Sointu liked to laugh and he liked to joke with people and every one who came into contact knew without a doubt that he was genuine. Many years ago, Sointu came to Canada to make a better life for himself...and he achieved that beyond a doubt. He retired after 30 years with Falconbridge and he leaves behind him a group of friends and family who will miss him immensely. His life was lived with purpose and it was lived with love.Beloved husband of Lea (Jokela) Mantyla predeceased August 3rd, 2007. Loving father of Kari (friend Carol) and Rita (husband Rodi Riccio) both of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Kaela and Keira. Dear son of Vaino and Elli Mantyla both predeceased. Dear brother of Kaiju (husband Aeikki Tervala) of Dowling. Dear brother in law of Antero Jokela (wife Aune). Sadly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins and family in Sudbury and Finland. Born in Toholampi, Finland, he married Lea in 1964. Sointu worked as a miner at Falconbridge Nickel Mine for 30 years. BROWN, Vera Anne (Schneider) - Passed away suddenly as the result of a tragic automobile accident on Friday October 16, 2009. Vera is predeceased by her husband Wesley Brown. Loving mother to Connie Barnes of Crystal Beach, Carrie Schneider of Sherkston and Kim (Dale) Davis of Chippawa. Proud Nanny of Terri Barnes, Shelby Desson and Ross Davis and great grandmother of Brandon Near. Sadly missed by her brother Jack Winger and her brothers in law, Lloyd Brown and Jim Brown. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and several close friends especially Merilyn Athoe. Predeceased by her great grandson Wilton Near, sisters Ruth Webb and Joan Winger and brother in law Clarke Brown. Vera loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very loving and giving person who had a passion for life and a passion for fashion. She had many dear friends, some since kindergarten and others that she made while doing the things she loved, traveling, shopping, playing cards, bowling and lounging by her pool. CIANCIO, Giacomo - Passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Welland Hospital in his 98th year. Nov. 9th. 1911-Oct. 16/2009. Giacomo was born in Castropignano, Province of Campobasso Italy and immigrated to Port Colborne in 1951. Predeceased by his loving wife Elvira Ciancio (2002). Dearly missed by son Nicola Ciancio of Port Colborne. He is survived by his brothers Domenico Ciancio in Rome and Carmine Ciancio in Argentina. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Roquelina Santarella, survived by nephews and nieces Franco Santarella, Roberto Santarella, Maria Di Tizio (Nicola), Rose Santarella, Lina Ciancio in Rome as well as many other nieces and nephews and cousins Eve Czuppon (Stephen) and Fiorina Fabi (Steve). He is predeceased by his parents Nicola and Gioconda Ciancio and cousins Mr. And Mrs. Peter Rivando and Chris Santarella. Giacomo's family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Warning When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves and satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall go out in my slippers in the rain And pick the flowers in other people's gardens, and learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat, and eat three pounds of sausages at a go Or only bread and pickle for a week And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes. But now we must have clothes that keep us dry and pay our rent and not swear in the street and set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
