MOORE, Margaret “Peggy“ - At Riverview Gardens, Chatham, on Monday, October 5, 2009, Margaret “Peggy“ Moore, age 87, of Chatham, beloved wife of Raymond. Born in Chatham, daughter of the late Mary Jane McNicol and Frederick John Neff. Peggy was a member of the St. Agnes' C.W.L. She will be sadly missed by: her sons: Robert Charles Moore and his wife Lois of Leamington, and Richard Raymond Moore and his wife Gloria Liebing of Windsor, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She will be missed by her sisters: Betty Mahon of Chatham, Pat Wimpress of Florida and Mary Jane Pyne and her husband Ralph of Ottawa, and 1 brother William “Bill“ Neff and his wife Donna of Chatham. She is predeceased by a daughter in law JoAnn Moore (1969), and 2 brother in laws, Donald Mahon and James Wimpress. Friends and relatives may call at the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. DOSTAL, Julius - Unexpectedly, but peacefully at home in his sleep at the age of 96 years on Sunday, October 4, 2009. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary and his son Ron (2006). LAWSON, Velma Florence (nee Dunham) - 1912-2009 - Passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 at McNally House, Grimsby, in her 98th year. She was pre- deceased by her husband of 69 years, Wilfred ‘Dyke' Lawson in 2005. Loving mother of Jacqueline (George) Thomas. Velma also treasured the special friendship and helpfulness of Leonard and Vera Bailey. LEACH, Marjorie McDiarmid - 1913- 2009 - It is with great sadness that we would like to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Marjorie McDiarmid Leach surrounded by family at the Niagara Arms Retirement Residence on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the age of 96. Marjorie was the mother of Carol Palis (Joe) and Marilyn Barnard (Bob); grandmother of Tamara Kamphuis (Doug), Jamie Barnard (Penny), Melissa Fancy (Duane) and Dawn Barnard; great-grandmother to Grace, Hannah, Logan, Noah, Ethan, Tucker and Brennan. PENNEY, Gerald (Jerry) - After saying goodnight to his loved ones, Jerry passed away peacefully at home early Sunday October 4, 2009 at the age of 67. He displayed courage, grace, and dignity throughout his battle with cancer. Jerry enjoyed 8 years of retirement after 36 years at the G.M. engine plant. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 40 years, Hedy (nee: Peters), daughter Tricia, son Mark (Tania), treasured grandsons Cohen and Braeden, and his mother Mary. PANAMAN, Michael - In loving memory of Michael Panaman who passed away on Monday, October 5th, 2009 at the SRH-St. Joseph's Health Centre. Beloved husband and soul mate of “Lee“ Panaman (nee Gentile). Son of Mary and Harry of Toronto, Ontario (both deceased). Michael served his country for 56 months, mostly overseas and had lots of stories to tell. He came to Sudbury in 1952. He joined Canadian Tire on Elm Street. Michael was remembered in helping the first Sudbury Santa Claus Parade off the ground, and won awards for 3 years for the best floats. He left Sudbury Canadian Tire, joining Canadian Tire office as Director of Store planning and merchandising managing four divisions. In 1980 he left the company joining MacLeod Stedman Inc. holding offices in Toronto and Winnipeg. In 1989 he retired to enjoy his many hobbies; fishing, hunting, gardening, carving and crafts. Michael will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. At Michael's request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. KALIN, Jaffa Lea (nee Mittelman) Passed away Saturday October 3, 2009 in hospital, in the presence of family, after a full life of 85 years. Beloved wife of Isadore (Yitzhak) of 61 years. Dear mother of Meyer, Zev both of Ottawa and Rena of Israel. Honoured teacher of Hebrew and Yiddish for 60 years to children and adults which was the joy of her life. Survived by extended family in Israel. Born in Poland January 1924, she masqueraded as a Ukrainian Catholic to survive the Holocaust (Shoah). She became and remained very active in Holocaust memorial events. She will be remembered by all that she came in contact with. She touched the lives of thousands and will be sorely missed by the many who loved her. Funeral Service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue Ottawa on Wednesday October 7 at 10 a.m. Interment as she wished will be in Bet Shemesh Israel. Shiva will be observed starting Sunday night October 11 until Friday morning October 16 at 500 Avalon Place Ottawa. Born August 22, 1910 and raised in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Lillian lived in Calgary since 1953. Lillian is survived by three sons, Dennis of Calgary, George (Oksana) of Vancouver Island, and Gregory of Vancouver; grandchildren Andy (Sarah and baby Jack) of Ottawa and Erin of Vancouver, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, George Ernest Sr. in 2000, her parents Joseph and Deborah Gregory and siblings Deborah (Gosselin), Flo (Rozon), Chrissy (Hubbard), Lawrence, Louise (Stoughton), Marcus, Jean (Buckner), Grace (Allen) and Dennis. Still living independently in her own home on her 99th birthday, a gentle woman she slipped away gently following a stroke. FRASER , William Lawrence William Lawrence Fraser passed away October 3, 2009 after a short illness. Born in Calgary in 1929, he spent most of his life there before relocating to Victoria, B.C. in 1997. Dear husband of Elizabeth Anne Fraser, Bill leaves two children - Nancy Elizabeth Fraser (Bruce Mathews) of Edmonton and Gordon William Fraser (Michelle) of Calgary, and three grandchildren, Tristyn, Jack and Jessica. Bill graduated from UBC with a BASc in electrical engineering in 1953. He began employment immediately with Calgary Power Ltd. (now TransAlta Utilities Corporation) and held many positions before retiring in 1991 as a Senior Vice-President. During his career, Bill was active in his profession. In particular he served for seven years on the Council of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) and was President for the 1982/1983 year. Bill also served as a Director and member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE). GIBSON , James (Jim) October 1, 1933 - October 2, 2009 James Gibson passed away peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the age of 76 years. He will be loved and missed by his daughter Heather (Darcy); his sons, Kim (Anna), Kevin (Sue), Kerry and Kurt (Victoria); and his grandchildren Randy, Monique, Quinn, Devin, Hayden, Dillon, Chad, Keaton, Emily, Marshall, Leighton, and Kourtney. He was predeceased by his mother Doris, his father James; and his brothers, Gordon and John. Jim worked with Sun Life for forty-six years and received numerous awards throughout that time for his proud service and commitment. He was actively involved with his sons' and grandchildren's many sports teams. Jim loved his trips to Maui as well as spending time with friends and family. Jim was an active member of AA and 1835 House where he mentored and counselled many through their addiction challenges. Jim and his family are very proud of his achievement of twenty-four years of sobriety. MICHEL , Alma October 10, 1916 - October 4, 2009 Alma passed away peacefully in Rockyview Hospital at the age of 92 years into the presence of her Lord on October 4, 2009. She will lovingly be remembered and missed by her three children; Marjory (Reg) Clowes, Shirley Mooney and Arvid (Lynette) Michel. Granny will be dearly missed by her eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Alma is survived by one brother, Robert (Mavis) Radke of Richmond, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-six years, Arnold in 2003. A Memorial Service will be held in "The Harvest Room" at First Alliance Church (12345 - 40 Street S.E.) on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN TIME). The family wishes to thank Cedars Villa Nursing Home for their care to Mom over the past five months and to Unit 93 of Rockyview Hospital for their tender loving care the past two weeks. SPARKS , Derek (Rick) Kelly July 17, 1934 - October 5, 2009 Derek Sparks, beloved husband of Marvel Sparks of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the age of 75 years. Thirty-three years of Derek's career was spent with Hoffman LaRoche. Upon retirement he was a White Hatter, Golf Marshall at Shaganappi, driver for Skate Canada and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Name. Besides his loving wife Marvel, Derek is survived by his son Norman and daughters Kimberly and Michele (Mark) LaDuke; five grandchildren Baaron, Trevor, Ariel, Sarah and Stephen. Florence LeBlanc 1925-2009 Au foyer de soins ProTem à Moncton, le mardi 6 octobre 2009, est décédée Florence LeBlanc, âgée de 83 ans. Née le 18 décembre 1925 à Saint-Paul, NB, elle était la fille de feu Gilbert et Alma (Bastarache) Bernard. Elle laisse dans le deuil cinq fils: Allain (Gaylene) de Cambridge, NS, Leonard (Bernice) et Guy (Rosa), tous deux de Moncton, Bernard (Rhoda “Fern”) de St. Catharines, ON, Michel (Lise) de Dubai; une sœur : Évangéline Bernard de Nouvelle-Écosse; un frère: Emile (Jeanne) de Hartford, CT, 12 petits-enfants et 13 arrière petits-enfants. Elle est précédée dans la tombe par son époux, Oscar LeBlanc, et trois sœurs: Edith, Dora and Anita. La famille recevra les condoléances au Salon funéraire Frenette, 88, rue Church à Moncton (858-1900). Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Christ-Roi le vendredi 9 octobre 2009 à 11h. L’inhumation se fera dans le cimetière Notre-Dame-du-Calvaire à Dieppe. Heures de visite le jeudi de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h, et le mercredi, dès 10h jusqu’à l’heure du départ (10h45).
