VAN ACKER, Kyle Louis - a resident of Thamesville, passed away peacefully at the London Health Sciences Centre, with family by his side on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the age of 18. Kyle fought a valiant fight against Cystic Fibrosis for 18 years, he loved music, and guitar playing and hanging out with his friends and family. Beloved son of Cathy Sherman (Dave) of Thamesville, and Rob Van Acker (Cindy) of Chatham. Loving big brother of Teghan and Samuel Sherman. Loving step-brother of Mathew Sullivan, Sarah Jefferson (Joshua), and Melissa Sullivan. Sadly missed by his grandparents Marsha and Don Handsor of Dresden, Lewis and Jean Sherman of Thamesville, and Louis Van Acker of Chatham. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family and friends were received at the JOHN C. BADDER FUNERAL HOME, 72 Victoria St., Thamesville on Sunday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service was held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Lynn Brown of the Thamesville United Church officiating. WEBB, Lester - At Welland County General Hospital on Friday October 2, 2009. Lester Webb of Welland in his 89th year. Loving father of Robert and Pat Creighton, Jim and Judy Creighton, Larry Creighton and Jean Fazzari, Lester Webb Jr. and Constance Adamson. Dear grandfather to ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Lester is survived by his brothers Murray, Alden (Georgie) and Lloyd (Reta) all of New Brunswick. Predeceased by his wife Florence (Broughton) (1997). Twin brother Ken (2002) and sisters-in-law Gladys and Betty Webb. Lester was and R.C.A.F Veteran of World War II. He resided at Rapelse Lodge in Welland for the last 6 years where he enjoyed many friends and acquaintances. Resting at the LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME 724 Canboro Road Fenwick for Funeral Service in the Lampman Chapel on Thursday October 8th at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Ridgeville to follow. MOREL, Père Jean-Paul, C.S.V. 1936-2009 Le père Jean-Paul Morel, clerc de Saint-Viateur, est décédé au Centre Champagneur de Joliette, le 4 octobre 2009, à l'âge de 73 ans, dans sa 25e année de profession religieuse et sa 17e année de sacerdoce. Né à Ville Dégelis, le 24 juillet 1936, le père Morel a émis ses premiers voeux, le 24 août 1985, et a été ordonné prêtre, le 26 juin 1993. Après avoir oeuvré plusieurs années dans le monde de l'éducation, le père Morel s'est joint à la communauté à l'âge de 48 ans, et il a enseigné quelques années au Dondon et aux Gonaïves, en Haïti. Rentré au Québec, il a complété sa formation théologique et, après son ordination, il a exercé son ministère à Rivière-au-Renard, à Ville Dégelis et à l'Île Saint-Igance. Après un séjour à Sainte-Luce-sur-Mer, il s'est retiré, en 2002, à notre infirmerie de Joliette où il vient de décéder. Outre sa famille religieuse, le père Morel laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs Micheline (Jacques Lalande), Charlotte et Nicole, son frère Vallier (Francine Beaulieu) ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Le père Jean-Paul Morel sera exposé à la: RÉSIDENCE PROVINCIALE DES CSV 450, AVENUE QUERBES, OUTREMONT 514-274-3624 le mardi 6 octobre de 14h à 17h et de 19h à 21h. PANAMAN, Michael - In loving memory of Michael Panaman who passed away on Monday, October 5th, 2009 at the SRH-St. Joseph's Health Centre. Beloved husband and soul mate of “Lee“ Panaman (nee Gentile). Son of Mary and Harry of Toronto, Ontario (both deceased). Michael served his country for 56 months, mostly overseas and had lots of stories to tell. He came to Sudbury in 1952. He joined Canadian Tire on Elm Street. Michael was remembered in helping the first Sudbury Santa Claus Parade off the ground, and won awards for 3 years for the best floats. He left Sudbury Canadian Tire, joining Canadian Tire office as Director of Store planning and merchandising managing four divisions. In 1980 he left the company joining MacLeod Stedman Inc. holding offices in Toronto and Winnipeg. In 1989 he retired to enjoy his many hobbies; fishing, hunting, gardening, carving and crafts. Michael will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. At Michael's request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. SOLSKI, Nicolas - We celebrate the life and mourn the loss of Nicolas Solski who passed away peacefully at home on October 4th, 2009 with his loving wife and children by his side. Born in Coniston in 1925, Nick began his career with INCO at the Coniston Smelter at the age of 17, retiring as a Maintenance Foreman at the Iron Ore Recovery Plant in Copper Cliff after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a man of few words, with a wry sense of humour, a strong work ethic, an unshakeable belief in family, and the amazing ability to repair, create or construct anything he put his mind to. He had a long and rich life, playing the snare drum in the Coniston Band as a teenager, curling at the Coniston Curling Club where he was one of very few who could claim an “8 ender“, enjoying the peace and tranquility at his camp, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, and in his retirement years getting away from the snow and the cold to winter in Florida. Beloved husband, best friend and confidante for 58 years to Elsie (Kotyluk). Dedicated father and teacher to his children Donna (Michael Chyz predeceased) and Bruce. Geegee was very proud of his only grandchild Kira Chyz. He will also be missed by his canine companions, Charlie and Shadow. Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Annie Solski and his siblings Mike (Irene Horrick), Mary (Nick Skakoon), Jessie, Bruno, and Peter, and inlaws Bud and Edith (Kotyluk) Savage. Survived by inlaws Stella Solski, Ed and Marilyn Kotlyuk, Bob Kotyluk (Judy predeceased), Lovey Kotyluk, and all of his nieces and nephews. ARMSTRONG, Edward Rae 2009-10-06 1926-2009 Ed departed on his greatest journey from St. Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, October 4th, 2009. He was born on April 24th, 1926 in Ashworth Ontario, the third son of Sarah and Frederick Armstrong. He married the love of his life, Marjory in March 1949. The family lived in Utterson where Ed was active in his children’s lives. He served on the local school board and was involved with the community church, minor hockey and the badminton club. Ed started his long career with Ontario Hydro in Bracebridge, Ontario, moving his family to Thunder Bay in 1966, and retired from the corporation in 1986. Ed and the family spent many happy years at their camp on Lake Shebandowan. Ed and Marjory enjoyed their retirement travelling and spent their winters in Weslaco, Texas. He is survived by his wife Marjory, and daughters Heather Dunk and Nancy Armstrong, his grandchildren Roger Bradshaw, Rachel Young, Heather Bradshaw, and sister Betty Yelland, son in law Alan Bradshaw, family friend Lally Bemben, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his daughter Susan Bradshaw, son Fred Armstrong, brothers Gordon and Frederick, and his parents. A memorial service will be held at Knox United Church, Pruden Street, on Friday October 9th at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice is greatly appreciated. Elle demeurait à la Résidence Au Bénaise de Saint-Antoine, mais autrefois à Coca gne. Née à Grande-Digue le 8 juillet 1922, elle était la fille de feu Gilbert et de feu Marie (Brun) Brun. Rose laisse dans le deuil ses huit enfants: Claudette Goguen de Dieppe, Léon (Yvette) de Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, Armand (Lucille) de Nevada, Donald de West Palm Beach, Fl., Jean-Paul (Ruth) de Largo, Fl., Jeanette Maranda de Saint-Antoine, Dianne Sullivan (Leo) de Methuen, Mass. et Doris Coraccia (Guy) de Westford, Mass., 15 petits-enfants et 13 arrière-petits-enfants; une soeur, Virginie Fougère de Shédiac, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Deux filles: Marie et Corinne; trois soeurs: Elizabeth, Emma et Exelda, ainsi que deux frères: Frederick et Jadus, l'ont précédée dans la tombe. Les visites auront lieu à compter de 14h, le mercredi 7 octobre, à la salle mortuaire de l'église Saint-Pierre de Cocagne. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église de Cocagne, le jeudi 8 octobre, à 10h30. L'inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial. Predeceased by sisters Hazel Wright (Orland), Dorothy Bailey (Clarnie), and brothers Wib Bradfield (Lil) and Jim Bradfield (Peggy). Survived by children Sandra Soutar (Dave, deceased), Wendy Warner (Les), Linda Gordon, and Doug Gordon (Yvette) of Claresholm, AB. Also survived by grandchildren: Donna Soutar- Bissaillon, Sheila Etches (Al), Steve Warner (Marianne), Nancy Wilson (Matt), Jeff Warner (Lisa), Darryl Ainey (Brigette), Heather Dubien (Claude), Nicole Gordon and Michelle Walker (Jeff) and 13 great grandchildren. Edythe worked at the North Bay Public Library for a number of years, and enjoyed oil painting, crafts, sewing, and was seldom seen without her knitting needles. Cremation has taken place. Family visitation at St. Andrews United Church on Thursday from 1-2 pm with memorial service to follow at 2 pm. MILLAR, Alice McNeil Alice Millar passed away peacefully on Sunday October 4, 2009 at the Elisabeth Bruyere Center (palliative care unit) in Ottawa, at the age of 93 years. Alice was a dedicated Civil Servant for over 30 years in Ottawa and continued to live in the Sandy Hill area of Ottawa after her retirement. She was born in Kingston, Ontario to the late William and Annie Millar (Smeaton). Her sister Isabel Hill (Millard) and her brother William (Bill) predeceased her. Alice's life long friend Albert Bennett (Benny) also predeceased her. Alice enjoyed travelling and had many wonderful trips abroad to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as, to Florida. Alice was a lover of all animals and especially cats. She also loved music and played the piano, organ and violin. After suffering a stroke in 2001, Alice dearly missed playing her prized Baldwin organ. Alice's sweet and demure ways and sense of humor will be missed by her sister-in-law Alma Millar Charlottetown, PEI, her niece Linda (Millar) and Al MacLean Dundas, Ontario, her nephew David Millard and Norma Levesque Kingston, Ontario and her nephew Charles and Paula Millard of Edgett's Landing, NB. DEXTER , Lillian Alice (Gregory) August 22, 1910 - October 2, 2009 Lillian Dexter of Calgary, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the age of 99 years. Born August 22, 1910 and raised in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Lillian lived in Calgary since 1953. Lillian is survived by three sons, Dennis of Calgary, George (Oksana) of Vancouver Island, and Gregory of Vancouver; grandchildren Andy (Sarah and baby Jack) of Ottawa and Erin of Vancouver, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, George Ernest Sr. in 2000, her parents Joseph and Deborah Gregory and siblings Deborah (Gosselin), Flo (Rozon), Chrissy (Hubbard), Lawrence, Louise (Stoughton), Marcus, Jean (Buckner), Grace (Allen) and Dennis. Still living independently in her own home on her 99th birthday, a gentle woman she slipped away gently following a stroke. OBITUARY MARCELLE KURTZ (nee GAGNON) Marcelle Therese Ruth Kurtz, affectionately known as Marcie, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2009 after a prolonged illness with her family by her side in her lifelong home of St. Lambert, Quebec. She was in her eighty-fourth year. A devoted wife and dedicated mother, Marcie is survived by Jack, her beloved husband and soulmate of sixty-four years. She will be sorely missed by her four children Terry (Margaret), Kim (Liz), Karen (Pierre) and David (Monica). "Bubbi" will also be remembered lovingly by her grandchildren Jennifer, Sara, Kelly-Anne, Jessie, Kaylee, Melanie, Stephanie and Syreena, as well as by her great-grandchildren Brandon, Ryan and Noah. Marcie was born February 20, 1925 in Montreal to the late Rodolphe Gagnon and Diane Fournier. She was the eldest of seven children and will be mourned by Albert, Pierrette, Rolande, Carole and Carl. She is predeceased by brother Maurice. Marcie was a real trendsetter, proving that you can successfully balance family, friendships and business. During a successful career that spanned several decades, she became known as an accomplished entrepreneur in the real-estate and retail industries, yet her proudest achievement was creating a loving family with strong ties to the local community and Montreal. Marcie could accomplish anything she set her mind to do. She was a loving and generous person who touched many peoples' lives. She was also a woman of great faith with a passion for life. REVEREND FATHER JAMES TURNER 2009-10-06 The Reverend Father James Turner M,I,D, C.D Rev. James Turner, age 90 years, passed away in St. Joseph‘s Hospital on Saturday, October 3, 2009. Born in Hyde, Cheshire, England on November 16, 1918, the son of Harry and Annie Turner, he was raised and educated there. He worked for several years as a Laboratory Technician with the Imperial Chemical Industries and was a member of the Church Army of England. At the outbreak of the 2nd World War he enlisted in the North Straffordshire Ordnance Corps as a Regimental Clerk Class 1. In 1943 he was “Mentioned in Dispatches” by the King for distinguished service. He was demobilized in 1946. In 1947 James married Miss Ethel Garred of Hyde. On resuming his church life he became a licensed Lay-Reader at his parish church. In 1950 he studied for the Anglican priesthood at the College of Brotherhood of St. Paul, Yorkshire. In 1952 he and Ethel came to Canada where he was ordained Deacon by the Bishop of Algoma and then to the Priesthood the following year. His time in ministry was spent entirely in the Diocese of Algoma, serving parishes in Schreiber, Gravenhurst, Port Arthur, West Thunder Bay and Capreol, before returning to Thunder Bay upon his retirement in 1984. During his time with Diocese he held the position of Rural Dean of Thunder Bay as well as serving as the Secretary to the Diocesan Synod. For 17 years he was the Chaplain to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps “Vindictive” in Thunder Bay and was the Legion Padre for Port Arthur Branch #5. He held the rank of Naval Lieutenant and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration Medal for his service with the Cadets. Rev. Turner was a former member of the Royal Canadian Naval Officers Association, and a life member of both the Canadian Legion Imperial Vets, and the Provincial Paper Ex-Servicemen‘s Association. From 1978 to 1984 he served as the Civilian Officiating Chaplain to the Canadian Forces Radar Station “Falconbridge” in Sudbury. He is survived by his wife Ethel, son Geoffrey, daughter-in-law Deborah Victor, grandchildren Katie and George, great granddaughter Kirsi as well as by relatives in England. He was predeceased by his parents. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Rev. James Turner will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Pearl Street, with The Right Rev. Stephen Andrews, Bishop of Algoma, presiding and Archdeacon Mark S. Conliffe, Rev. Michael Dunnill and Rev. Mary Lucas assisting. Interment will take place in St. James Cemetery. Arrangements in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. John‘s Anglican Church would be appreciated. DEAN, Darrell 2009-10-06 1937-2009 The family of Darrell Glenn Dean (Diz) are saddened to announce his peaceful passing at home, on Saturday October 3rd 2009 at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Marg (nee Goegan); devoted father of: Peter, Angie (John Poleschuk), Warren, Lori (Stu Robinson); cherished Bumpa of: Cobey and Jordan Dean, Billy and Tielle Poleschuk, Casey Dean, Troy and Jake Robinson. Darrell was predeceased by his parents Alex and Lilly Dean and only sibling Joan McGinnis. Born in Elfros Sask., he moved to Fort William as a young boy. He attended local schools and was employed at the Ministry of Transportation as a draftsman for 35 years, retiring in 1992. Darrell was and avid sports fan and a supporter of local hockey, all of his life. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play. He was a devoted fan of the "Leafs" whom he never gave up on! Being a family man, he most enjoyed time spent at the kitchen table sharing a family meal with laughter and good-hearted teasing. His grandchildren meant the world to him and was always the happiest when they were around him. In the earlier years, he enjoyed moose hunting with his friends and camping at Blue Lake. Darrell was a kind, quiet and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. As per Darrell’s wishes, cremation will take place and no formal service will be held. Darrell’s family and friends may gather on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. for visitation and reception in Jenkens Funeral Home. DANIELS, Mary (Patraluk) 2009-10-06 April 15, 1920 – October 2, 2009 DANIELS: It is with sadness that we say good-bye to our Mother, Baba, and Aunt. Mary passed away on October 2, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Mary was born in Fort William and was a life-time resident of Westfort. She was the daughter of Mike and Frances Patraluk and sister to Nellie Andrews and John Patraluk and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son John Tarnow (Bev) of Calgary and grandchildren, Chelsey Tarnow, Shannon (Chris) Martin, great-granddaughters, Chantal Steeves, Tiana and Bria Martin. She was predeceased by her husband, Metro (Mike) Daniels, son Michael, sister Nellie and brother John and parents Frances and Mike. Mary‘s love of gardening enabled her to continue working until just a few years ago and she was noted for her preserves and sharing the bounty that came from her garden. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Ascension and volunteered in helping raise funds through the sale of pyrogies. Her home, family and church were her main interests. A visitation will be Monday evening at the Blake Funeral Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Removal will be made to the Church of the Ascension (corner of Gore and Mountdale) on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 for Panachyda at 7:00 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 10:00 am with Rev. Andrija Petresin officiating with interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
