LA FAMILLE BEAUDIN a le regret de vous annoncer le décès de M. ÉMILE BEAUDIN décédé le 5 septembre 2009 à l'hôpital Civic d'Ottawa, à l'âge de 78 ans. Il était le conjoint de Jeannine Lefebvre, le fils de feu Éméralda Villeneuve et de feu William Beaudin. Il laisse dans le deuil son fils Serge (Monique Lanthier) ainsi que ses petits-enfants: Cédric et Crystel. Il laisse également ses soeurs: Mignonne (feu Aimé Poirier) et Jeannine (Eugène Garneau); les enfants de sa conjointe: Ginette, Linda (Daniel Grenier), Jean-Pierre, Jacques (Annie Lebeau), Guy et Gilles (Claudette Boucher) ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces, cousin(e)s et ami(e)s. Il fut prédécédé par Roger (feu Irène Richer), Willie jr (feu Simone Tessier) et Maurice (Jeannette Legendre). Il n'y aura pas de visites à la maison funéraire. Le service religieux en présence des cendres aura lieu le samedi 12 septembre 2009 à 11h, en l'église Baptiste Évangélique sise au 770, boul. Gréber à Gatineau. La famille recevra les condoléances à l'église à compter de 10h30. Pour ceux qui le désirent, des dons à la Fondation de l'Institut de cardiologie de l'université d'Ottawa seraient appréciés. AVIS DE DÉCÈS ROLANDE CHARTRAND Paisiblement, Mme Rolande Chartrand (D'Aoust) nous a quittés le mardi 1er septembre 2009, dans la sérénité et la grâce. Elle a succombé à un dernier cancer, elle qui en avait combattu 3 autres auparavant. Elle a connu une belle vie bien remplie qu'elle a su apprécier à tous les instants. Elle a toujours agi comme le noyau rassembleur de famille. Prédécédé par Conrad D'Aoust (mari), elle laisse donc dans le deuil sa soeur, confidente et meilleure amie Gabrielle Chartrand (Jules Landriault). Également, elle laisse 4 enfants: Michel (décédé), Francine (Norm Pantel), Jean-Serge (Suzanne Desforges), Luc (Linda Larente) et son neveu très proche, Jean-Pierre Landriault (Filoména Corrado) ainsi que Claude Chartrand (décédé) et Pierre Chartrand (Francine) Elle avait 9 petits-enfants: Andrée, Étienne, Sébastien, Guillaume, Jean-François, Nicolas, Maxime, Laurence et Olivier. En plus, elle avait Philippe, Nora et Sara qui s'ajoutent aux petits-enfants. Elle n'a malheureusement pas eu le temps de voir 2 arrière-petits-enfants qui naîtront cet automne. Elle laisse aussi plusieurs belles-soeurs, neveux et nièces. Une cérémonie liturgique sera célébrée le samedi 12 septembre à 11h, à la COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L'OUTAOUAIS, 1369 boul. FRASER, William "Bill" (Former owner of BA Gas Station - Montreal Road; Bill's Smoke Shop McArthur Avenue; Retired from Canadian Air Force and Federal Government and Former Band Member of Terry and The Statesmen and other bands) Peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2009 at the age of 88. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Florence. Loving father of Don, Tom, and Kathlyne Schweyer (Gary). He was a proud grandfather of Josh William Fraser and Aaryn Ashley Elizabeth. He is survived by sisters, Peggy Simpson (Art), Jean Butler (the late Rene), and brother Ted (Barbara), and the late Allan (Valerie), Donald (Edna), and Doug (Myrtle). He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was an accomplished musician and enjoyed his time with band members, a builder who built his own home and cottage, a mechanic with the Canadian Air Force. His first love was his wife Florence and time with grandchildren, family and friends. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to those friends and family that kept Bill company after the death of his beloved wife Florence. KELLY, Friar Philip, OFM Conv. Friar Philip Kelly, OFM Conv. died peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2009 at Francis House, Syracuse, NY. Born in Farrellton, Quebec, he was the son of the late Gerald and Eunice Kelly. Survivors include three brothers, Rev. Carl Kelly, OMI, Joseph (Maddie) and Robert (Marie) as well as two sisters, Sr. Nora Kelly, CSJ and Marion (Richard) Kennedy. Predeceased by Patrick (Shirley) Kelly, Ann (Terry) Costello, and Edward Kelly. Friar Phil professed his first vows as a Conventual Franciscan Friar on August 12, 1961 in Middleburg, NY and professed his solemn vows at St. Anthony-on-Hudson, Rensselaer, NY on August 16, 1964. Friar Phil served in Costa Rica, Camden, NJ and St. Lambert, Quebec. He was the editor of the Companion Magazine in Toronto, Ontario as well as the founder of Tobias House, Toronto, Ontario, a residential community for challenged people. He also served for a time on the staff of St. Luke's Institute, Washington, DC. Since 2001, Friar Philip resided at St. Francis Friary, Syracuse, NY and was part of the Franciscan Collaborative Ministries, working in the field of community organization on the Northside. He also wrote a weekly column forThe Catholic Sun, and a monthly insert in the Messagero, an international magazine of the Conventual Franciscan Order. The wake will be held at the Franciscan Church of the Assumption, 812 North Salina Street, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 10th, with the Franciscan Wake Service being held at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 11th at 11:00 am. Interment will be in the friars' plot of Assumption Cemetery. Walter Kovalskie is the beloved son and last surviving member in the family of the late Vincent and Catherine (Bleskie) Kovalskie. LaRONDE, Norman Joseph August 18, 1936 - September 6, 2009 Formerly of the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Mint and the Canadian Core of Commissionaires. Norman passed away unexpectedly from a brain tumour at the Deep River Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Beloved eldest son of the late Doris McEwen. Predeceased by his father Carman LaRonde, his stepfathers Ambrose (Buster) Sampson and Alex (Sandy) McEwen. He'll be dearly missed by his siblings: Connie (late Ernie); Carol (late Jerry); Robert; Gwen (Raymond); Bernie (June); Brian; Dennis; Colleen; Doug (Debbie); Kim (Kelly); and Marvel (Morgan). Cherished uncle to 30 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. A celebration of Norman's life will be held in the spring of 2010. TOSTO, Gabriele Gabriele Mario Tosto died peacefully Monday September 8, 2009 after a long, courageous and dignified journey. Gabe is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Anita (nee Scappatura) and his son Frank and daughter-in-law Joanne Ruitenschild of Calgary and his daughter Anna and son-in-law Kurt Martin of Ottawa as well as by his three beautiful granddaughters Sofia Lin, Christina Mei and Amanda Zhi Ye Martin whom he adored. He is also survived by the many members of the Scappatura family including Frances and Sam Ripepi, Frank and Estelle Scappatura and Eddy and Rita Scappatura and was predeceased by the late Dr. Rudy and Gloria Scappatura. Dr. Scappatura was instrumental in Gabe's recovery after his initial illness and Gabe never forgot Rudy's generosity and dedication. Gabe is survived by his sisters Elvira Rossi of Sudbury (married to the late Oreste Rossi), Concetta Lupo and Rita Tosto and brother-in-law Renato Lupo all of Cosenza, Italia. He is remembered as a loving and kind uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was also a great friend to Li dia and the late Mike Rossi of North Bay. Gabe was predeceased by his parents, Annunziata Rende and Francesco Tosto of Aprigliano, Italia. Gabe was born on September 11, 1932 in Aprigliano, Italia and immigrated to Canada in 1952. He settled in North Bay where he lived most of his life. Gabe was a highly intelligent and entrepeneurial man who worked for Chrysler Corporation before starting his own very successful local business. He was active in every aspect of North Bay life including religious, political, business and sporting pursuits. He suffered greatly through many illnesses but with his unrelenting determination and his family by his side, he always perservered, even in death. Since 2004, Gabe lived at the Villa Marconi in Ottawa where he was cared for with much love and respect. Friends may pay their respects at McGuinty Funeral Home, Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption, Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. WHALLEY, Shirley Ethel Nee Hopson August 28, 1928 - September 4, 2009 In loving memory of Shirley Ethel Whalley who died Friday, September 4, 2009 at Ottawa Civic Hospital in the company of her family. Loving mother to Alice (Emil), Sylvia, Bill (Wenda), Martin, Shirley (Tom) and predeceased by her daughters Carol and Lorraine. Devoted grandmother of Adam, Ashley, Tori, Justin, Jay, Sean, Kendra, Matthew and great-grandmother to Abby, Luke and Aiden. She is also survived by her sister Myrtle (Babs) and brothers Jim (Edie), Frank (Darlene), Cecil (Isobel) and Robert (Carla). Predeceased by 1 sister Paula and 3 brothers Len, Dick and Harry. A longtime resident of Walkley Road, she leaves behind many good friends including her best friend Marie White. Shirley had many interests and excelled at baking, sewing and quilting and she was also an avid card player. CAMPBELL, Michael Lorne April 1, 1942 - September 4, 2009 Lorne passed away peacefully with family at his side, in the Jewish General Hospital, Montreal, on Friday evening, September 4 after a courageous battle with respiratory illness and cancer. Lorne is survived by sisters Frances Cullen (late Howard) of Montreal, Joan Campbell (late Arthur) of Trenton, Ont., Florence Gallant (Gerard) of Summerside, PEI, brothers John Campbell (Janet) of Elora, Ont., Earle Campbell (Frances) of Kingston, Ont. and Jim Campbell (Lorna) of New Glasgow, N.S. He was predeceased by his parents Earle and Mary Campbell and brother Basil. Uncle Lorne will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews from Alberta to the Maritimes, as well as by friends and associates of the Quebec Provincial Federation of Teachers, the Canadian and local Kennel Clubs and friends and neighbours of St. Jean Baptiste where he resided for many years. Lorne was a breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and showed concern for his dogs until the end. McCOMBER, Peter Stanley Otsehtokon 1922 - 2009 Stanley McComber peacefully returned to spirit world on September 6, 2009. Stanley was born on February 12, 1922 at Kahnawake Mohawk Territory, the son of Josephine Cross and Dominic McComber. He was the beloved husband of the late Stella Kukura. Stanley is survived by his children Mark, Wayne and Stephanie (Randy), six grandchildren: David (Tracey), John, Robert, Natasha (Jeremy), Tiffany and Kyle and many great-grandchildren, his brother Alex (late Rita) and laws Kitty and Bob Balis. RIORDAN, Joan E. (nee Baird) Surrounded by the love of her family, in the Brockville General Hospital, on Monday, September 7, 2009 at the age of seventy-seven years. Beloved wife of Jack Riordan. Loving mother of Deborah Hencher (Clyde), Diana Jazwinzki (John), Donna Letourneau (Greg), P. Michael Riordan (Marian), Maureen Riordan (Errol dos Santos) and the late Mary Margaret Riordan. Also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as her sister Reta Carey. Predeceased by her brother Bob Baird. Joan has retired from a business career with B.F. Goodrich in Kitchener. She had been an active volunteer with the V.O.N., as well as with the Veterans Hospital at St. Anne de Bellevue in Montreal, and in earlier years in the schools attended by her children. Joan was a devoted mother to all her children, but especially towards the need of her daughter Mary Margaret who predeceased her in 2003. She was a member of the Brockville Country Club and the Glen Lakes Country Club in Brooksville, Florida. SHEPPARD, Frances Marian Aged eighty-two, of Montreal, passed away on September 5, 2009. Formerly of Hamilton, Ontario, Frances was the daughter of Alton Melancthon Sheppard and Emily Victoria Elliott, and the dear sister of Archie (Dianne) of Niagara Falls, Catharine Macadam of Calgary and Elliott (Allison) of Orillia. Frances was predeceased by her sister Sophia Trape (John) of Purley, England, and her brother Henry. She took great interest in her many nieces and nephews and their children, as well as in everyone around her. Frances attended Westdale Collegiate Institute and McMaster University. In Hamilton, she attended the church of St. John the Evangelist and worked at Lowry Fuel and the Boy Scouts before going to Montreal to enjoy the challenge of working in the French language. In Montreal, she worked for Mr. Monet's firm, doing charitable fundraising, and attended Christ Church Cathedral. A private Funeral Service will be held at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont, on Friday, September 11 at 11 a.m. and a Memorial Service for friends and others at a later date. BARR , Florentina "Flo" May 7, 1927 - September 4, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Flo Barr. She will be remembered by her son Tom (Denise) and her daughter Wendy. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Alex (Courtney), Kyle, Trent, Kasha, and Kolten. Flo was predeceased by her parents Fred and Anna; her sisters Eva, Margaret, Barbara and Mary, and her brother Ed; as well as her infant son Milton in 1950. She was a wonderful mother and loved to cook for her family and always sent baked goodies home with her family. Flo retired at sixty-five after many years of working at Safeway. A favourite pastime was playing Bingo which she said she never won at. She will be remembered for her sincere generosity throughout her life. Her last eight years were spent at Confederation Lodge where she received love and excellent care. Her spunkyness will be missed. DEMONG , Anton "Tony" Tony passed away on August 30, 2009 after many months of suffering with pancreatic cancer. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Vivian; his biological children and stepchildren and many grandchildren as well as one brother and sister. Tony sat as a judge in the Provincial Court of Alberta from 1977 until his retirement in June 2001. He also served as a judge in Saskatchewan (his home province) before moving to Alberta. Tony was an ardent reader and historian. He studied geology and archaeology and we belonged to the Archaeology Society of Alberta. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of his friendship and knowledge. He would take time with children when asked difficult questions or any questions, and answer their concerns but mostly his greatest time spent was quiet time with a book in his hands. SOKOLOWSKI , Stanislaw "Stanley" April 6, 1916 - September 7, 2009 "Kochany Maz, Tata i Dziadek" Stanley passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 7, 2009 at the age of 93 years. Stanley was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and enlisted in the Polish Armed Forces in 1937. During the war he served in the British 8th Army, Polish 2nd Corps, 5th Kresowa Division and proudly fought in Italy - Monte Cassino. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Coleman where he worked in the mines for ten years. In 1958 the family moved to Calgary where he started work at Con-Force Structures. He retired after twenty-five years. Stan was an active member of the SPK Polish Combatants Association, and an avid fisherman. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Anastazja, his children, Beatrice (David) Dickins, Mary (Wayne) McDougall, Lucy (Tim) Henry, Mark (Edith) Sokolowski; grandchildren Paul (Maggie), Greg McDougall, David, Mark Dickins and his sister Victoria in Poland. MARGARET ILEEN MCFAYDEN Wednesday, 9 September 2009 - 1:39pm Surrounded by family, Margaret Ileen McFayden, 84, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009 at Rainycrest Long Term Care in Fort Frances where she resided for the past seven years. Mom was born on September 22, 1924 in the rural farming community of Hamiota, Manitoba to the late William and Dorothy Brimacombe. She was the youngest of five children. In 1939, at the young age of 15, she moved to Fort Frances with the Matheson family. She lived and worked at the Hauk dairy farm in Crozier for a time, and at J.A. Mathieu’s store during the war. Throughout her life, Mom worked at several local restaurants, most notably, The New Lunch Cafe. When it closed she worked for a few years at the bus depot, and then for several years at La Verendrye Hospital in the dietary department from which she retired in 1988. Mom was one of the first female Elders at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She was a tireless worker for the church helping to organize rummage sales, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day teas and the making of many turkey pies sold there. She was also a member of the Rainycrest Auxiliary for year of volunteering in the tuck shop and at teas. She delivered Meals on Wheels regularly too. Mom was always involved in sports. She played women’s softball, was a regular bowler for years, and later she joined the curling club. In 1947 she was united in marriage to Alex McFayden and together they raised three children, Jack, Diane and Danny. She was dedicated to her family and always ready to give a hand when needed. She helped coach boy’s hockey and girls baseball when needed. She was our greatest fan and always there to cheer us on in sports and life. She was the most wonderful Nana ever and spent countless hours with her grandchildren and great grandchildren with sleepovers and fun times in “Nana’s park.” Mom was a wonderful cook and was always making up batches of cabbage rolls and perogies for our freezers, and canning enough dill pickles for the whole family. We thank you Mom for always being there, for making us feel warm, safe and loved. She was predeceased by her parents, and by brothers Bob and Lloyd, and sisters Hilda and Dorothy. She is survived by sons, Jack (Teresa), and Dan of Fort Frances; daughter Diane (Ken) Tetreault of Oliver, BC; six grandchildren, Krista Salchert-Johnson (Geoffrey), Steven Salchert, Jeff, Tessa, Scott, and Michelle McFayden; two great-grandchildren Johnathan and Jamie; sister-in-law Bonnie Watson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Krista, Steven, Jeff, Tessa, Scott and Michelle. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Margaret’s life at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ontario on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Diane Clifford officiating. Thomas MacIntosh Hebb, Halifax 77, Halifax, passed away September 7, 2009. Tom was born in Halifax, the son of the late MacIntosh Ronald and Nora Edna (Thomas) Hebb. After graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1949, Tom worked briefly with Imperial Oil before joining his father in 1950 as an insurance broker with MacLaren Hope Insurance, located on Hollis Street. His grandfather, William Howard Hebb, a retired sea captain, had formed a marine insurance brokerage in Lunenburg, so following in those footsteps, marine insurance quickly became Tom's passion. He went on to form his own company Marine and General Agencies Ltd. and to purchase MacLaren Hope, later to be renamed MacLaren Hebb Insurance. His love of the business, together with devoted staff and brokers, helped him to create a successful group of companies which he enjoyed being a part of every day until his retirement in 2001. He was particularly proud when his children, David and Cyndy joined him in the early 80’s becoming the fourth generation of Hebbs to enter the insurance industry. Tom loved his work and was very involved, acting as the president of the Independent Insurance Broker's Association of Nova Scotia and as a member of the International Order of the Blue Goose. He travelled and attended many industry conventions making lifelong friends along the way. He was a member of the Halifax Curling Club, the RNSYS, and the Petpeswick Yacht Club. He loved being on the water, and owned several power boats as well as a 32 foot wooden sloop, he eventually traded them all, to purchase "the cottage" where he would spend his later years gardening, doing carpentry, enjoying the outdoors and smoking his pipe. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Florene, whom he met and fell in love with at a Jubilee Boat Club dance, and married in 1955. He will also be missed by his daughter, Cynthia Evelyn MacLeod (Bruce); son, David MacIntosh Hebb (Pamela Auld); sister, Marilyn Convery (Frank); brother, Robert Hebb (Ann); five very special grandchildren, Sara, Thomas and Michael MacLeod and Laura and Geoffrey Hebb; several nieces and nephews. Tom loved to laugh, loved his family, loved his business, his cottage and his two loyal companions Koby and LuLu. The family wish to express their gratitude to the staff of The Berkley on Green Street, as well as to Dr. Christopher McKnight, Dr. E.B. Johnson and Dr. Andrew Humphrey for their care and compassion. KNIGHT, Naomi - It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Naomi (nee Treuman) on Monday, September 7, 2009 at Scarborough Grace Hospital. Naomi, in her 85th year, beloved wife of Reg; dear mother of David (Marjolaine), Ruth and the late John Knight; loving grandmother of Sammy and Keisha. She is survived by her brother Alex and will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and many friends. Visitation will be held at the Church In The Village, (CITV) 3760 Sheppard Ave. East, Scarborough (west of Kennedy Rd.) on Friday, September 11 from 9:30 A.M. until the service at 10:30. PORTER, Glen Harry 2009-09-09 Glen Harry Porter Glen Porter died September 7th 2009 at St. Joseph‘s Hospital after a lengthy illness. Glen was born on the 25th of March 1936 to Kate and Marshall Porter in McCord Saskatchewan and moved to Fort William when he was very young. He remained a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay and worked for 43 years at McKellar General Hospital as an electrician, Maintenance Supervisor, and Director of Operations. Glen married Mona (Powers) in 1956, and , they had three children, Glenn, Scott, and Cindy. Together they have enjoyed their grandchildren Mark, David, Megan, Christopher and Danielle. Cremation has taken place, and in accordance to Glen‘s wishes, family prayers will follow at a later date at Chincoteague Island National Seashore in Maryland and Quetico Provincial Park. Donations can be made to Western University, University of Waterloo, or Confederation College, learning institutes Glen and Mona are so very proud their grandchildren are attending.
