RANSKY, Mychailo - Passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Sunday, September 6, 2009 in his 87th year. Loving husband of 64 years to Luba; beloved father of William and his late wife Ingrid; Olga Kivell and her husband Bruce, Victor, and Walter (Debbie); grandfather of Lisa, Michael, Daniel, Engilique, Victor Jr., Joshua, Alex, Cory and Jessy; great- grandfather of Madeline, Clarissa, Dominique and Audrik. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters in the Ukraine. Mr. Ransky's family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of his caregivers for their support. BUTTON, Marie Ann – Marie died peacefully at Rapelje Lodge on September 5, 2009, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease at age 80. She leaves Kenneth, her husband of 56 years, whose loving care allowed her to travel and enjoy life despite her illness. Also left are her children, Keith (Tomoko), Susan Degner (Mark) and Christopher (Nancy), granddaughters Valerie, Ariane, Danielle, Sakura and Midori, sister Frances Randaccio (Robert), nieces, nephews and many special friends. Marie is remembered as a wise woman, a loving wife, mother and loyal friend. Marie had a strong faith and was an active member of Holy Trinity Church. Many received comfort through her ministry of prayer for the sick through the Order of St. Luke. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Holy Trinity Church, 77 Division Street, Welland at 11:00 a.m. If so desired, donations in Marie's name may be made to Holy Trinity Church, Rapelje Lodge or Charity of Choice with cards available at the H.L. Napoléon Desmeules, demeurant à la Résidence Georges-Hébert autrefois rue Châteauguay, Jonquière. La famille a accueilli parents et amis à la Résidence funéraire du Saguenay 3711 rue Cabot, Jonquière (secteur Kénogami) Les funérailles ont eu lieu le mercredi 9 septembre 2009 à 11 h à l'église St-Georges. Après les funérailles, M. Desmeules a été incinéré et les cendres ont été inhumées au cimetière St-Cyriac. Il était le frère de: feu Léopold (feu Marie-Louise Boudreault), feu Jeannette (feu Oscar Lévesque), feu Louis-Georges (feu Simone Lagacé), feu Servais (Jocelyne Côté), Vilmont (Candide Racine), feu Fernande (Jean Paradis), feu Jean-Henri (Hermence Asselin), Blanche (feu Théo Gagnon), Victor (Lisette Leclerc). Survived by many cousins, great aunts and uncles, Conrad lived more in 7 years than most do in a lifetime. Mathias was employed at INCO for 32 years. A talented musician, Mathias enjoyed playing the violin. He loved the outdoors and was also an excellent carpenter, spending many happy hours in his workshop. GAGNON, Gilles “Gerry“ - It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Gilles (Gerry) Gagnon on September 6, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Gerry will be sadly missed by wife of 54 years, Jean (nee Major) of Dowling, Chip (Heather), Dale (Jeannie), Terri Paulins (Tony Larson), Bonnie (Arnold Burton), Kelli (Chris Patrie), Robert (Shelley), Patrick (Renee), his 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren as well as his sister Jacqueline (Wilkins Langille) of Wawa. Gerry was born on February 3, 1932 to Remi and Cecile Gagnon (predeceased) of Ville Marie, Quebec. He is predeceased by two of his sisters, Jessie and Lilly, as well as his brother Jacques. Gerry was a long time employee of MacIsaac Mining and Tunneling in the Sudbury area and Raise contracting in Elliot Lake since 1978 where he retired, returning to the Sudbury area in May 2009. The Family will receive friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 4691 R.R.#15, Chelmsford, Wednesday, September 9 from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m. A service will be held in St-Etienne Parish, Dowling, followed by a reception at the Lion's den. Colleen always loved children and after raising her own, spent years providing child care for others. During this time she developed a special bond with the family of Seija Binmore and her boys Patrick, Eric, Mark and David. Un gros merci à son oncologiste le docteur Catherine Cripps, son omnipraticien le docteur Edward Smith, aux infirmières et bénévoles de l'Hôpital May Court et spécialement au docteur Lisa Aldridge qui nous accompagna durant les derniers jours de la vie de Gaétan. CONWAY, Michael Stephen On Saturday, September 5, 2009, Michael Stephen Conway, aged 63. Beloved husband and best friend of Myra Beauchamp Conway. Dear son of the late Leo James Conway and the late Ivy Burkitt. Left to mourn are his sisters Patricia Conway-Willis (late Earl), Barbara Smith (Russell) and Catherine Stewart (late George), and his brothers Peter (Linda) and Christopher (Elise). Remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews and their children, and by his many friends in Canada and all parts of the world. Michael was a proud Canadian who served the country he loved as a public servant and diplomat in Ottawa, St. John's Newfoundland, and in Sweden, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Malaysia. In his last few years Michael lived with early onset dementia. He was able to live his life at home with dignity and much laughter with the loving help of his caregivers, in particular Shirley Lamoureux, Linda Prudhomme, Sharon Lang and Yvonne Valentine, their nursing care manager at Retire-At-Home. CROUSE, Gerald (Gerry) After a series of illnesses, Gerry passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 5th, 2009 at the age of 68. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Alice (nee Roy), his daughter Melanie, his son Sean, his daughter-in-law Lorna, his two grandchildren Tyler and Kiana Lausen and his sister Pat Brown from Nova Scotia. Gerry also leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends. Gerry retired from Parks Canada in 1996 after over twenty years of service. PATTERSON, Joanne Elizabeth Of Ottawa, passed away on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009, at her late residence, in her 66th year. Beloved daughter of the late Ernest Kennedy "Pat" Patterson (1992) and the late Elda Mae (Horton) Patterson (2002). Loved sister of Edward Ted Patterson and his partner Cathy Sheridan of St. Thomas. Also survived by a number of cousins. Joanne was born in Hamilton on March 29th, 1944. She graduated from the University of Guelph in Home Economics in 1966, From 1966-68 she worked in the U.K. and traveled, in 1969 she graduated from O.C.E. at the University of Toronto, from 1969-71 she taught for the Almaquin Highlands School Board, from 1971-74 she taught for the Carleton School Board and from 1974-76 she worked for Indian and Northern Affairs (INAC), Manitoba Region. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas where funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Shedden Cemetery. SINNEAVE , James G. (Jim) September 4, 1929 - September 4, 2009 Jim Sinneave, beloved husband of Marion of Calgary, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Jim was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 4, 1929. On June 4, 1949, Jim married Marion making their home in Regina. Jim began his career with Eecol Electric in Regina, working for many years within the Company before becoming President and CEO. As owner of Eecol, Jim always remained active in the company, until his passing. Jim was very active and supportive of his community, being a major contributor to the Children's Hospital Foundation among other organization across North America. In 2007, Jim began the Sinneave Family Foundation, to help people with Autism. Jim had a great passion for people. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Jim is survived by his loving wife Marion of sixty years; daughter Debbie Foss; sons and daughter-in-law, Rob Sinneave and Rick and Brune Sinneave; as well as six grandchildren. CARPENTER , Marian Ellen June 11, 1943 - September 3, 2009 After a graceful and courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Marian passed away with her children by her side on September 3, 2009. Marian grew up as a prairie girl in Gleichen, AB, before moving to Yellowknife, NT, where she started her family. She then returned to Gleichen where she raised her children and lived happily for a decade. She eventually settled in Calgary in 1985 after meeting her partner in life and best friend, Jim Shukin. She was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to curling, football, and hockey. Marian's spirit, perpetual optimism, infectious laugh, as well as her passion for life inspired everyone who knew her. She had an incredible gift with people. Marian will be missed by her loving family: son Brook (Sylvia) Carpenter; daughter Lara (Dan) Culig; grandchildren, Hanna, Julia, and John-Edward; stepchildren, Jay (Nicole) and Randy; brother Gary (Irene); and sister Pauline. WALSH , Claire Gertrude (nee Ehlinger) December 24, 1916 - September 5, 2009 Claire Gertrude Walsh of Calgary, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Sarcee Nursing Home. Claire was born December 24, 1916 in Provost, Alberta to her parents John Peter and Gertrude Ehlinger who owned and operated the local hardware store for many years. After a happy childhood and concluding high school in Provost, Claire entered the Edmonton General Hospital School of Nursing from which she graduated in 1938. While training at the Edmonton General she made life long friendships amongst her classmates and spent many happy times with them over the years including attending class reunions in Western Canada and the United States. After she married and moved to Calgary, she raised four fine children who loved her very dearly throughout her life. While in Calgary she was a loyal and steadfast employee for the Department of National Defence, the Charles E. Frosst and Co., and several law firms. Claire enjoyed many years of retirement in Kelowna, B.C. during which she traveled widely with her close friends to Europe, the United States and the West Indies. Claire's pride and joy remained her four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother, father and sister Frances. She is survived by her son Don (Regine) Walsh of Annapolis, Maryland; daughter Pat Raymaker (Darryl) of Calgary; daughter Trudy Hughes (Bob) of Calgary and son John Peter (Nancy) Walsh of Charlotte, North Carolina. ARCHIBALD, Allan Graeme 1935-2009 Passed away on September 5, 2009 at the age of seventy-four. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Lorna Lou, his treasured daughter Jennifer, his brother John (Marlene), his brothers and sisters-in-law, his many nieces and nephews and a wide cherished circle of friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Les Jardins Urgel Bourgie, 3955 Cote de Liesse. Visitation with family will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
