ARSENAULT, Denis “Mouse“ Roger - In loving memory of Denis “Mouse“ Roger Arsenault, 56 years of age, who passed away Monday, September 7th, 2009 at his house. Born in Sudbury, he worked as a heavy equipment operator with Garson Pipe for the past 15 years. Mouse was an active minor league hockey coach for many years. He enjoyed and played many sports, including bowling, darts and he was an excellent pool player. Mouse was a skilled carpenter and the work he did in many homes will be a lasting legacy of his talent and character. He was always the life of the party, a generous and giving man who celebrated life every day. The centre of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren. Beloved husband of Brenda (Henri) Arsenault of Sudbury. Loving father of Derek (wife Jennifer). Cherished grandfather of Cohen and Cameron. Dear son of Valmont and Leone Arsenault both predeceased. Dear brother of Ronald predeceased (wife) Yollande of Azilda). Dear son-in-law of Fernand and Geraldine Henri both predeceased. Sadly missed by Rachael Morini. PITMAN , Richard William (Bill) February 20, 1925 - September 6, 2009 Richard William (Bill), born February 20, 1925 in Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away at his home on September 6, 2009 at the age of 84 years. He is survived by Elizabeth, his beloved wife of sixty-three years, his son Richard (Debbie), daughter Susan MacKenzie (Bill), grandchildren Dayle (Josh), Melissa, Diana, Bill Jr., and two great-grandchildren Madison and Cadence. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, as well as his brother Hank (Mary) from British Columbia. Bill was predeceased by his sister Doris Pitman in 1999. This warm, gentle, and generous man will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to be part of his life's path. Through his life's journey Bill had enjoyed a particularly active and varied life. He first met the love of his life, Bette Zaran, at the tender age of ten years old, and they were married February 20, 1946. As the years progressed he undertook many roles, all with a keen focus, an attention to detail, and seemingly inexhaustible energy. At age seventeen he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Pilot Officer in the Second World War, stationed both in Canada and overseas. He was also a trainer with junior football in Saskatchewan; played for a short while with the Saskatchewan Roughriders; was an oil scout during the heady days of 1960's Alberta oil and gas exploration, following which he then became a successful entrepreneur founding both Petro-Tech Printing and Draftech Services. He was also an active member through this period of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Hillhurst Lodge No. 46. Retiring at age fifty-one, Bill increasingly devoted his time, talents and energy to charitable activities, becoming very active in the Shrine organizations of both Spokane and Calgary. During this period Bill became the Potentate of the Al Azhar Shrine Calgary organization in 1993, and was continuously involved for many years in the Shrine's international activities. Bill was also an active member of the Calgary Air Crew Association, and through that organization helped develop the memorial to the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan at the Calgary Aero Space Museum. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at the Al Azhar Shrine Temple (5225 - 101 Street N.W.) today, September 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. DÉCARIE, Vianney 28 novembre 1917 - 6 septembre 2009 À Montréal, le 6 septembre 2009, à l'âge de 91 ans, est décédé Monsieur Vianney Décarie. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Thérèse Gouin, ses enfants, Pascale, Dominique, Jean-Claude et Emmanuel, ses petits-enfants, Étienne et Clara, et sa belle-fille, Anita Low. Il laisse aussi son beau-frère, Ollivier Mercier Gouin, un neveu, et plusieurs nièces, ainsi que de nombreux amis et collègues. Officier de l'Ordre du Canada, Grand officier de l'Ordre national du Québec, Vianney Décarie reste un philosophe de renommée internationale qui par ses écrits, son enseignement et son apport à l'administration de l'Universtité de Montréal, l'enseignement qu'il a dispensé sur la philosophie grecque, la philosophie médiévale et la philosophie de la religion, a permis la formation d'une relève de très haut niveau. Il a développé une étroite symbiose avec de grands penseurs français et a toujours défendu avec un courage tranquille, la liberté indispensable à tout développement intellectuel. Docteur ès lettres de la Sorbonne, il a été invité à enseigner à Paris, McGill et Nanterre. Il fut président de la Commission canadienne de l'Unesco. HUNTER, Donald Edward - A resident of Erieau, Donald Hunter passed away at his residence with family and friends by his side on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the age of 77. Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Firmin (2006). Loving Ma of Fernand (Brenda), Roland (Katrina), Herman, Christian (Bea), Julian (Kathy), Donald and Nadine (Ken) Tyrrell. Mary was co-founder of Thompson Printing in 1954 working side by side with her late husband John and later joined by sons John, Herb and Mark. She had a busy life including Cub Pack Leader, avid Bridge Player, and talented Rug Hooker of the J.J. Ruggers, member of many activities including the Paris Curling Club, Lawn Bowling and the Book Club. She was proud of her service on the Board of the Paris Willett Hospital. Mary enjoyed many years at the Barker Street address and more recently moving to Telfer Place where she joined in the busy social life with old friends. Over the years she cherished her time at Turkey Point on Lake Erie with her family and later on, spent winters during her retirement enjoying shelling with friends on Sanibel Island in Florida. Friends will be welcomed at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL FUNERAL HOME, 1105 Rest Acres Road on Tuesday September 8, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. BENDER, Philip - on Thursday September 3, 2009, in his 94th year at his home. Beloved husband of Lydia for more than 68 years. Loving father of Sharon (Malverne) Hutchison, Dawna Bender, and Shawn (Michael) Stecura. Cherished Papa of Travis Hutchison, Heidi (Darryl) Gucwa, Justin Hutchison, Christine Stecura, and Stephen Stecura, and great grandpa of Lauren and Sophie Gucwa. Philip is survived by sister Elsie (Johnnie) Hornsberger, and brother Harold Brown. Philip was an active member of the local Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. After his retirement from grocery store management some of his many hobbies included making full size and miniature violins and wood carvings. SARKO, John Sr. - Peacefully, in the presence of his family, at the Welland Hospital on Monday, September 7, 2009 in his 97th year. Cherished husband for 70 years to Elizabeth (nee Horvath). Beloved father of John Sarko (Adele) of Welland and Frank Sarko (Ruby) of Fonthill. Born in Piper, Alabama, Mr. Sarko was raised in Hungary, returning at age 17 to the United States, namely Bridgeport, Connecticut followed by his move to Canada. He was employed for 35 years as a crane operator with Union Carbide retiring in 1977. Mr. Sarko was the oldest member of Community Presbyterian Church (formerly Hungarian Presbyterian Church) and was an elder of the church. As well, he was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Union Carbide. Friends are invited to visit the family on Thursday, September 10th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the H.L. He was a longtime Lively resident having worked many years in INCO's Creighton Mine retiring in 1981 as a safety instructor. He had many interests which included reading, computers, photography and stamp collecting. He spent many happy times at his property at Britt. He was a physical fitness enthusiast.
