BOISSONNEAULT, RENE - The family announces with sorrow his death at the Timmins and District Hospital on Friday, August 7, 2009 at age 81 years. Beloved husband of Laurianne (nee Belair) and dearest father of Raymond of Kapuskasing, Nicole Poulin (Raymond Lauzon) of Ottawa, Darquise Perron (Pierre) of Ottawa, Gilles (Bonnie) of Timmins, Lynn Lia (Franco) of Timmins and Joel of Timmins. Dear brother of Jean-Paul Boissonneault (Noella) of Timmins, Bernadette Caron (Ernest) of Cranbrook, B.C., Marie-Jeanne Boissonneault of Garson and Marcel Boissonneault of Timmins. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as well as his special daughter-in-law Claudette Lecuyer (Denis) of Timmins. Predeceased by his parents Jean-Albert and Eva and his brothers David and Armand. Rene was born in Timmins in 1927 and had been a self-employed contractor. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus (Council #11844). Funeral mass will be held Monday, August 10, 2009 at 12 noon from St. Dominique Church. Interment Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Remembrance donations to the Joseph Fortin Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Caroll-Ann Rhainds 1994 à 2009 C’est dans le calme de sa maison à Salaberry-de-Valleyfield que Caroll-Ann nous a quittée avec courage le 7 août dernier à l’âge de 15 ans. Sa mère Katy la bercée jusqu’à son grand départ. Outre sa mère et son père Dean Nevins, elle laisse dans le deuil ses 2 frères Gigi et Simon-Olivier, sa grand-mère et grande amie ainsi que tous ceux qui ont eu le privilège de la cotoyer. Caroll-Ann vous attendra le samedi 15 août de 13H00 à 16H00 pour lui rendre une dernière visite. Elle souhaiterait vous voir porter un peu de rose en son honneur. Les visites se termineront par une envolée de colombes à 16H00. Elle aurait souhaitée recevoir des marguerites ou des dons pour leucan, organisme en lequel elle croyait, afin que chaque enfants malade puisse vivre des moments magiques à travers cette épreuve de vie. GILLILAND, Michele (nee McGregor) July 31, 1951 to August 6, 2009 Passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the age of 58. Beloved spouse of Raymond. Loving mother of James (Chantal) and Sarah and a household of pets. Dear sister of Lucile McGregor (Norm King). Predeceased by her parents Sandy and Rita McGregor. Michele was a long-time friend of Bill W and the Sunday Night Discussion Group. She will be dearly remembered by family members and friends. Michele was a dedicated volunteer with the West End Villa Family Support Group, the Ottawa Parrot Club and loved being a foster mom to many kittens from the Ottawa Humane Society. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial reception on Tuesday, August 11th between 6 and 9 pm at St. Richard's Church Parish Hall, 8 Withrow Avenue, Nepean (just off Merivale). BELL, Robert (Robb) Roy - Surrounded by family and friends, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Roy Bell after a brief but courageous battle with esophageal cancer on August 5, 2009 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Robb was the son of Bruce and Donna Bell of Niagara Falls, father of Taylor Robert Bell of Royston, B.C, brother of David Bell of Niagara Falls, and Tracy Azis of California, uncle of Misha and Tess of California. Robb was born in Winnipeg in 1954 and settled in the Niagara Peninsula in 1973. Music was his great love and he always worked in the music industry. He was also very proud to drive wheelchair patients to their many destinations as a driver for Raham's Transportation. He will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and his second family, the Raham's of St. Catharines. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Harb & Dr. Hartman for their excellent care. CARUSO, MARIA - 1933-2009. It is with great sadness that the family of Maria Caruso announce her passing on Wednesday, August 5th, 2009, less than one month shy of her 76th birthday. Maria, the daughter of the late Carmela and Carmelo Caruso, was born on September 4, 1933 in the city of Filadelfia, Italy. As a young child she was affected by the fevers and ravages of childhood meningitis. Her recovery was challenging; Maria couldn't walk for many years, but anyone who knows Maria will know that she was a survivor who surprised everyone with her resilience and determination throughout her life. She not only learned to walk, she also competed in the local Special Olympics where she won several medals. When her family immigrated to Canada in 1954, Maria was denied entrance because of her handicap. She remained in her hometown with her dear aunts, Anna and Concetta. There she attended mass daily and was a well-known member of the community. Thirteen years later she was finally granted immigration status on humanitarian grounds and rejoined her family in North Bay. When her parents passed away in the late 1970's, Maria went to live with her brother, Frank, his wife Lynn and children, Ian, Darren and Carly, where she became an integral part of the family. For many years Maria assisted in cleaning and dusting at St. Rita's Church where she had an opportunity to speak in Italian to the staff there. She participated in the Community Living's program at F.J Dellandrea Place and in the day program at Cassellholme before moving there. Everywhere that Maria went, she drew smiles and admiration. She also had a great voice and is well remembered for her beautiful rendition of Ave Maria; never failing to bring tears to people's eyes. In spite of her challenges, Maria was happy. She was a special person who brought great joy to many. She will be sadly missed by her family; sisters Cathy Fruci (Domenic), and Rosina Servello (Carmello deceased); brothers Frank (Lynn), and Aldo; and her 18 nieces and nephews. SMITH, Helen Margaret nee; Callaghan - 1923-2009. Mrs. Smith was born in Brantford, Ontario Canada of Patrick Callaghan and Jane Ann McCann. She attended St. Mary's and BCI schools, and then entered the work force in business offices and retails sales. Under the tutelage of George Smale, Mrs. Smith became an exceptional lyric coloratura soprano who won many music festival classes, culminating in the Mary Wood Rose Bowl and Marion Dell Verity Trophy. Helen was a frequent guest soloist with the Cockshutt Male Choir and performed with them throughout Southern Ontario. After marriage and moving to Birmingham, Michigan, she continued singing as a performing member of the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit. The Birmingham Musicale, The Royal Oak Musicale, Charninade Music Study Club and The repertoire ranging from folk songs to opera. With her husband, Bob, she performed many programs of solos and ducts. Mother of Mark Victor Smith and Jane Ellen Edgren, Mrs. Smith ran the household, cooked wonderful meals, was her own interior decorator, and sewed the children's and her own clothing including her wedding dress and many performance gowns. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, W. Robert Smith of Roswell; Georgia. Son mark Victor Smith of New York; N.Y Daughter Jane Ellen Edgren and grandchildren Derek and Nora Edgren of Charlotte; N.C. Sister Theresa Papp of Brantford; and many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Canada. ARSENEAULT, Elizabeth (Carter-Reid) - beloved wife of the late Clarence (Keith) Arseneault (1991) passed away at GNGH on August 1, 2009. She leaves behind her three children, John Reid (Judy), Deborah Gagnon (Tim) and Dawn Pegg (Harold), her grandchildren Kim Reid-Wardrop (Grant), Aaron Reid, Leanne Gagnon, Shawn Pidgeon, Corey Pidgeon, Harold Pegg Jr., Tara Pegg and one great granddaughter, Madelaine Wardrop. As per Elizabeth's wishes, cremation has taken place. Sister Kathleen Kiley (Sister Elizabeth of the Sacred Heart) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON died in Shalom Residence on the 7th day of August 2009 in the 80th year of her Religious Life. She leaves to mourn the members of her religious community, as well as her devoted niece, Aileen Elliott, other nieces, nephew, and friends. Predeceased by her parents, Edward and Bridget (Irvine) and by her brother Frank. She was born on October 20th, 1913, in Stoco, ON. Sister Kathleen entered the Community on July 30th, 1930, pronouncing final vows on August 16th, 1935. Her primary ministry involved supervision of Dietary Services, working at the Motherhouse and the General Hospital, Pembroke, St. Vincent's Home in Vancouver and at the Seminary, Ladner, B.C. as well as St. Michael's and Assumption Convents, Ottawa. Retiring in 1981, she volunteered at the Shepherds Of Good Hope, Ottawa. She lived her final years at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Resting at the Marguerite Centre, 700 Mackay Street, on August 9, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Liturgy on August 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Columba's Cemetery. FITZPATRICK, Mary, CND. (Sister St. Mary Phillipa) Passed away at Infirmerie Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Philip Fitzpatrick and the late Mary Anne Murphy of Torbay, NF. Four brothers, James, John, Thomas and Leo and one sister, Helen predeceased her. Sister leaves to mourn her sister, Helen Dunphy of Torbay, NF, a sister-in-law, Nell Fitzpatrick of Stephenville, NF and many cherished, devoted nieces, nephews and cousins. Sister Mary began her teaching career of thirty-five years in the schools of the Montreal area and spent some time in Caraquet, NB, New Haven, Conn., Huntingdon, QC, and Chateauguay, QC. She retired to Villa Marguerite in 1985 and was transferred to the Infirmerie Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours in 2009. McALEAR, Margaret (nee Rush) After eleven years of fighting the good fight, Margaret drew her last breath at the lovely and loving West Island Palliative Centre in Montreal on August 6, 2009. She left with the same feistiness with which she lived. Her family Claude (Mac) her beloved husband, her children, Lee-Anne and Danny, her grandchildren, Amber, Michael and Liam, her son-in-law, Jim Harris and her daughter-in-law, Carol, her loving niece, Donna Pollock and her family, David, Maureen, Elizabeth and David Ray and all the McAlear and Rush Clans are desolate at her passing. Margaret was born in Montreal on July 11, 1932, married at the age of nineteen on July 7, 1951 and had just celebrated her 58th wedding anniversary. She lived in Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary. She leaves many friends and many great memories across this country that she loved. Margaret was fiercely independent. She chose to work when it was uncommon to do so. She was the belle of the ball in the halcyon years at Canadair in Montreal, a favored employee at Allied Chemical in Toronto and an award winning distribution manager at both the Edmonton and Calgary Sun. She travelled North America in an RV with Mac, loving the freedom of the road and the surprise of new places. We shall all miss her so. There will be a memorial service in Rawdon, QC (TBA). In lieu of flowers or cards, the family is asking that donations be sent to the West Island Palliative Care Residence, 265 rue Andre Brunet, Kirkland, QC, H9H 3R4.
