Born in Dover Twp., daughter of the late Antoine and Eloise (Turner) Duquette. Beloved wife of the late Gilbert A. Duquette (2008). Loving mother of Annette Jones of St. Thomas, Yvette Duquette of Wallaceburg, Gilbert Duquette Jr. (Susan) of Thamesville, Lloyd Duquette (Stella) of Wallaceburg. Loving grandmother of Timothy Duquette (Michelle), Terry, Murray, Nikky Jones, Krista, Ashley, Anna Marie, and Alex Duquette. Sadly missed by her great- grandchildren Taylor and Devon Duquette, Kalab and Emma Jones, Aden Caldwell, and Faith Duquette. Beloved wife for 54 years to Robert Kastner, and loving mother of Douglas of Toronto, Karen of Bowmanville and Ellen of Toronto. Dear grandmother of Scott, Christopher, Dietrich, Elliott and Nathan. Also survived by her brother Neil Smith of Orillia, and sisters Mary Clarke and her husband Tom of Toronto, Audrey Babb and her husband Frank of Markstay, Wilma Drinkle of Orillia, Joan Moore of Toronto. Predeceased by her parents Josephine and Dudley Smith. Charlotte was born on May 9, 1936 in District of Nippising, and came to Cambridge over 20 years ago. At the request of Charlotte cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date. CROSSE, Raymond Mackenzie - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Raymond announce his peaceful passing at the Niagara-on-the-Lake hospital on July 19th, 2009 in his 91st year with his daughter Lisa at his side, yet comforted by the knowledge that he is in a better place. Ray was born on November 19th, 1918, to Reginald and Barbara Cross, and brother to John, Marie and Marion in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Raymond was a Wing Commander in the RCAF serving with distinction during the Second World War in the North African campaign and flying missions over Europe. It was at this time that he met his only love and best friend, Margaret Jean, devoted wife of 64 years. Loving and giving father and friend to Cheryl who predeceased him in October 2007, Debbie, and Lisa. Grandfather to Spencer, Chelsea, and Adam; and great grandfather to Hayden. Raymond had a long and distinguished work history in Oakville before settling into retirement in Niagara-on-the- Lake with his family in 1975. Ray always saw the good in everyone and everything and was never one to pass judgment or say a harsh word. His sense of humour and hearty laugh was welcomed by all who knew him well or only in passing. Raymond was passionate about his family, and a caring, proud, and protective father to his three girls, always putting their needs ahead of his own. MELNYK, Annie - Passed away peacefully in her 85th year, on Monday July 20, 2009, at Henley House Nursing Home, St. Catharines. (Beloved wife, 56 years of Andrew). Born in Silver Creek, Manitoba. Moved to Toronto, married Andrew Melnyk in 1953; relocated in Bobcaygeon, and finally came to St. Catharines to be closer to family. They travelled extensively and spent many winters in Weslaco, Texas. Mrs. Melnyk is survived by sisters-in-law Sophie Firman, Jean Baldock, Olga Klym (Joe), Rose Kit (Deacon John), and will be missed also by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Nicola Marchuk and Iryna Pushka, and brother Mike. Mrs. Melnyk was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in St. Catharines, and Myrhorod Seniors Club. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Stephanie, Émilie, Laura, Isabel, Andrea and Solange. Also survived by his brother Lucien (late Hélène) of Cape Coral Florida and by his sisters, Laurette Smyth (Raymond) of Sudbury, Colette Smyth (late George) of Port Colborne, Thérèse Bogucki (late Simon) of Scarborough and Rolande Farrell (late Bartley) of Sturgeon Falls. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Aurèle (Irène of Sturgeon Falls), Léo (Helen of Sturgeon Falls), Victor, Jeanette (late Émile Charbonneau), Rita and Anatoline. He is also a survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean-Marie started his accounting career at the St. Jean de Brébeuf Hospital and retired in 1990 from the West Nipissing General Hospital as Assistant Director in Charge of Finance. ROLLER, Herb 2009-07-21 1924-2009 On Friday July 17, 2009 at 9 a.m., we said "goodbye" to our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.. with sadness and joy… It was a journey… not a battle …with lung disease… during which time we all learned new insights to the man we had known for a lifetime. Herb was a man of conviction… courageous but careful; practical but also compassionate; strong but not stubborn. Herb was always true to his word as his son, James, said… “the truest man I have ever known". He loved his family first…. he loved his professions and he was a true friend. He thought nothing of taking a family picture, painting someone‘s house, helping to build a house with family, making wine for friends, or making a friendly meal and caring for his grandchildren. He was outgoing and friendly. Today, we remember with humility his many contributions to society… he was a willing and loyal volunteer for Sports Hall of Fame, Meals on Wheels, Lutheran Community Care Centre, Italian Hall.. to mention only a few. He was proud of his service in the Royal Canadian Navy during WW2… in which he saw action in the north Atlantic on his ship The Swansea from 1940 to 1944. Herb was also proud of his service with the OPP for 23 years. He achieved the rank of Sergeant with the Identification Branch. He was a forerunner in colour photography with that department and also received accreditation in Wedding Photography. He also owned Andrews Photography for many years and photographed many weddings in both Kenora and Thunder Bay. During his retirement he enjoyed driving school bus for Iron Range. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his daughters, Elizabeth (Josh), Margaret (Steve) Naida and Patricia… His sons, James and Bryan (Colleen)… His beloved grandchildren.. Adam ( Jen), Elise, Emily, Karen, Keith, Kyle, Jennifer ( Justin) (and Mom Korene), Melanie (Marco) and Taylor (Alyssa) (and their dad Greg).… each and everyone know a part of grandpa… special to them; one great-grandson, Finlay and brother Jim in Los Angeles and special sisters-in- law Gwen and Mary; special brother-in-law Wayne Lax and families and Brian Lax and many other loved family members. He was predeceased by his parents and many siblings and his beloved son Terry and grandsons, Steven Hajdinjak, Christopher Roller, and Marshall and Joshua Hajdinjak, Joyce‘s parents Maude and Arvid, and brothers-in-law, Allan and Merril. Cremation has taken place and a service at Our Saviour‘s Lutheran Church will be held on September 22, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. as so many family members are out of town at present. MENEI, Michelle 2009-07-22 It is with great sorrow and sadness that we say goodbye to our precious Michelle Menei, age 20 years, who passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, July 18, 2009. Michelle was born November 21, 1988. She was a very active girl growing up playing soccer, swimming, and skiing every year regularly. She enjoyed spending many summers at camp with her family and friends. Michelle was always a quiet one growing up, but you could always catch her smiling with a grin once in a while when she thought something was funny. Michelle had to work extremely hard in school and made her way through high school, to college, and had just gotten accepted into the Con-Current Education Teaching Program at Lakehead University this summer. Michelle was extremely happy about this as she worked many hours at Tim Hortons and Walmart while going to college. When she wanted something in life, big or small, Michelle worked hard until she got it. She was a very determined and strong willed young lady. Michelle will be deeply missed by her parents, Mario and Alison; her siblings: Robert, Lori, and Susan; grandparents: Antonio Menei and John and Lynn Brotherton; her uncles Alan Brotherton, and Marcel (Vickie) Menei; and her aunt Lucy (Joe) Cuglietta. Numerous cousins and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Serafina Menei; aunt and uncle, Wendy and Greg Fortier. Funeral Services for the late Michelle Menei will be held on Friday, July 24th, 2009 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. for the Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses trois fils, Stratos Mahmourides, George Mahmourides et Anastasios Mahmouridis (Betty Spanos), 2 petits-enfants Christina Mahmouridis (George Tellides) et Gerry Mahmouridis, son arrière petit-fils: Michael Tellides, sa soeur Chrysoula Koronis et plusieurs cousins (es), nièces et neveux. Elle rejoint aussi son frère Manouli Pahoulis et sa soeur Ekaterina Pahoulis. Reconnue comme un être hors du commun, elle trouvait toujours un côté positif chez les gens qu'elle cotoyait et ses voisins du quartier la considérait comme leur grand-maman. Elle était bénévole dans les églises ou elle aidait les gens dans le besoin. À l'âge de 9 ans elle devint orpheline , elle prit soin de ceux qui vivaient la même situation . Elle déménagea au Canada seule en provenance de la Grèce à l'âge de 25 ans. Elle se maria , fonda son commerce de fourrures. Elle prit sa retraite à l'âge de 76 ans. Elle aimait cuisiner pour tout le monde. Elle était une belle personne qui nous manquera à tous et que nous continuerons d'aimer toujours. Nous n'oublierons jamais ce qu'elle nous a enseigné. CHAGNON, Norman Jerry Joseph 2009-07-21 In Loving Memory of Norman Jerry Joseph Chagnon It is with heavy hearts we announce that Norman Chagnon passed away on July 14, 2009 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at the age of 61. Norm was born on January 22, 1948 in Pine Falls, Manitoba. Norm is survived by his wife of 40 years Darlene (nee Mostow), son Guy (Larissa), daughter Nadine (Darren) Benson, three precious granddaughters, Lauren, Julia and Danielle Benson, and his mother, Marguerite. Also left to mourn his loss are his brother Roland (Sue), sisters Terri Favreau, Paulie (Floyd) Triskle, Marci Chagnon and Jeanne Chagnon, sister-in-law Edie Wallin , brother-in-law Ed Mostow (Camille) as well as many very special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Leo, in-laws John and Frances Mostow, and brother-in-law Don Favreau. Norm grew up in Powerview, Norman, Keewatin, and spent his married life in Kenora. He began his work career with Pepsi, then started at the Paper Mill, working in the Woodroom for 39 1/2 years and was happy to be able to retire in 2006. It was then that Norm discovered how much he enjoyed traveling on trips to Las Vegas, Victoria and most recently to Mexico. Norm loved the outdoors and spent many happy times hunting and fishing with Dar and all the guys, ice fishing with his retirement buddies and spending summers at the property in Sioux Narrows. DAI, Mei 2009-07-21 Beloved mother and grandmother, Mrs. Mei Dai, age 80 years, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 17, 2009 at St. Joseph‘s Hospice - Palliative Care Group. Mei was born in a small village on Feb. 1, 1929 at the south part of China. As a young girl, she experienced a difficult childhood due to war. At age 17, her family moved to Guangzhou. Mei earned her Accounting Certificate in her late 20s, an unusual accomplishment for a female at the time. After graduating from college, Mei married her loving husband, Xian, and together, raised five children. She worked briefly for her father‘s incense business until finding employment as an accountant at a chemical company until her retirement. Mei has been blessed by the Lord in many ways; one of the most significant, being provided the opportunity to immigrate to Canada in 1992. Mei has since trusted Jesus Christ as her saviour and her faith in the Lord was developed through her daily prayers. Mei will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Feng (Wa), Jie (Xeun), Bao (Quang), Jin (Soubin) and her son Chang (Ming); 8 grandchildren: Angus, Joyce, Crystal, Madeline, Andrew, Ryan, Avia and Jayvin. She is also survived by her brother, Dai Kam Paul (Kim) in Hong Kong and numerous nieces and nephews in China and Hong Kong. Mei is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Xian Bing Huang, her father, Dou Dai, mother, Ai Liang and her sister Einsou Dai. Mei‘s family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and those who were involved at the cancer clinic and 1A unit at T.B.R.H.S.C. for their professional care. A special thank you goes to St. Joseph‘s Palliative Care Group and Hospice, for their compassion and thoughtfulness through her terminal illness and final days. A memorial service for Mrs. Mei Dai will be held on Thursday, July, 23, 2009 at Fort William Baptist Church, 1800 East Moodie St., at 2;00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Dibbley officiating. Visitation for friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.. If friends desire, memorial donations to the St. Joseph‘s Hospital, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Fort William Baptist Church or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
