MANN, Rita Helen Passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Huronia District Hospital, Midland in her 82nd year. Rita Mann, of Waubaushene, formerly of Ottawa, beloved wife of the late Peter George Mann, CD. Loving mother of Anita and husband Terry Fegarty of Waubaushene. Survived by sisters-in-law Dorothy, Rose, and Mabel. Her smile and warmth will be missed by all her "family": Carol, Penny and Barry, Kerri, Wendy, Bill, Joe, Ron and Marlene, Jordan and Miki, Sean, Lori, and Colleen. Rita loved life and believed "don't curse your fate, embrace your opportunities". SHARP, Phillip Roald Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Centre on July 17th 2009. Born on December 7th, 1929, in Detroit, USA. Son of the late Thomas Christopher Sharp and the late Sybil Grestock. He attended the schools of architecture at the University of Toronto and The Polytechnic, London UK. He was made a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1965 and practiced for some years in England. He returned to Canada in 1974 as Associate Professor in the Schools of Industrial Design and Architecture at Carleton University. In 1986, he established Phillip Sharp Architect Limited, Ottawa. His practice included designing social housing, special needs housing, and units for the environmentally hypersensitive. Among many honours, he received a Citation of Excellence for Sustainable Community Solutions from the American Institute of Architects in conjunction with the International Union of Architects. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 2007. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Thomas (Lorraine Aston), stepson Cudah, sister Pamela White and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and brother, the Reverend Christopher Robin Sharp. Dear friend of Don and Anneli Westwood, and Michael and Susan Connor, and friend of Bill W. According to Phil's wishes, the funeral will be limited to family members. A full Memorial celebrating his life and career will be held on his 80th birthday, December 7th, 2009. WYLIE, James (Roy) Peacefully passed away on July 17, 2009, in Vernon's Hospice House at the age of 85. Roy was pre-deceased by his wife Jean Ward of St. Eugene, Ontario (Dec/03) and brothers John and Bernard of Vankleek Hill. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his two sisters, Ruby Lowe of Lachute, Quebec and Frances in Montreal; his two sons in Vernon, Ward (Cathi) and Andy (Janice / divorced) and his four grandchildren, Pearse, Evan, Holly, and Jamie. Roy was born in Vankleek Hill, Ontario and served as a Navigator in the RCAF (1943-45). In 1949 he joined the major appliance division of Canadian General Electric in Montreal and held numerous positions over a career of 40 years. He married Jean in 1950, and in 1958 they moved to St. Bruno, Quebec and raised their two sons. After retiring, Roy and Jean moved to Vernon, B.C. in 1993 to be nearer their grandchildren. Roy was a loving father and devoted family man. No matter what activity or sport his grandchildren participated in, he would be there supporting them. A kind and gentle soul, who will be greatly missed. He is to be cremated and then buried in the family plot in St. Eugene, Ontario at a date yet to be determined. She was always so kind-hearted and giving, and will be missed immensely by all. O'NEILL, David Roger On Saturday, July 18 at the CHUS Hotel Dieu at the age of fourty-nine following a brief and dignified struggle with cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda (nee Speck), and four loving children, Sean, Erin, Andrea, and Cheryl and is predeceased by his beloved mother-in-law Glenna and sister-in-law Linda. Son of Gerald O'Neill and Jackie Paquin, brother of Peter (Linda-deceased), Norm (Gladys), Michelle (Gary) and Louis (Cecelia). Son-in-law of Carl Speck (Glenna-deceased), and brother-in-law of Randy (Debbie) and Dannie (Patti). Proud uncle of David, Christopher, Jolene, Sebie, Nici, Gregory and Katie. BREDO , Rose Myleen January 29, 1922 - July 17, 2009 It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear Mom, Gram, and friend, who passed away peacefully at Rockyview Hospital at the age of 87 years. Rose was born and raised in Leader, SK and resided in Calgary during her adult life. She worked many years at Kresges (K-Mart). Rose will be remembered as a sweet, gentle, loving lady, with a warm smile and hugs for her family and friends. She was a lovely homemaker, wonderful cook and had a great sense of fun. Rose resided at Wentworth Manor the past eight years. Rose will be dearly missed by her son Bill (Sally) McLean; grandson Kevin (Lesley) of Calgary; stepdaughter-in-law Wendy Bredo; step-granddaughters, Tanya (Bruno) and children, and Tamara Bredo, all of Vancouver; her dear sister, Tena (Owen) Going, of Moose Jaw, and extended family members, including many nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her long-time, devoted friend, Barb Wilson. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 1994. CHRISTIE , John John Greg Christie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the age of 90 years with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving family, daughter Janet (George) Giles of De Winton, AB; his grandchildren, Patrick, Michelle, Andy and Matthew; a nephew and nieces from Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. John was predeceased by his wife Dorothy in 2008 and his son John David Christie in September 2002. John was born in Calgary, AB and was raised in the Drumheller area. He was a sports enthusiast and played baseball as a young man for the Dalroy Giants and the Avenue Grill Bombers. John was a WWII veteran and served with the RCAF overseas in the European Campaign. He participated in the D-Day operation at Juno Beach and the liberation of Holland. He was always hospitable and full of stories and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We would like to thank the staff of the I.C.U. at the Peter Lougheed Centre for their excellent care of John during his last days. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. GENGE , Porter June 22, 1947 - July 18, 2009 Porter Genge passed peacefully away on Saturday July 18, 2009 at the age of 62 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-two years, Sadie Genge; children, Paul (Kimberly) Genge and Sheri (Travis) Genge; grandson Kieran Genge; sisters Pearl Dowden and Constance McLean, both of St. John's; brothers Samuel (Aggie) Genge of St. John's and Steven Genge of Anchor Point. CALDWELL, Thomas - Suddenly at the Kingston General Hospital, in his 79th year. Dearly beloved husband of Gertrude who predeceased him in February, and with whom he shared 59 years of married life; beloved father of Daniel and Rebecca and son-in-law Kevin; dear brother of Jake and the late Bob, Betty, Margaret, Mary and Cathy. Thomas served a number of parishes during his 48 years as a Minister in Canada and the United States, including First Baptist Church in Brantford. His devout faith was a great strength to him. His life was an example of quiet dignity, great courage in times of suffering, and unfailing devotion to his wife, Gertrude, most recently during her illness and always to his family. His recently published book, All You Have to do is Be, is a testament to his belief in living as full and fulfilled human beings. WILSON, Donald - After a long and courageous struggle, Don passed away at his residence, surrounded with the love and presence of his family on Friday July 17th, 2009. Loving husband of Beverley (nee Sherk). Cherished father of Jeffrey (Amanda) Wilson, Jamie Lee (Patrick Howe) Wilson and Jessica (James MacKinnon) Wilson. Proud grandfather of Jacob, Kayla, Cohen and Lucy. Also survived by his sisters Mary (Jim) Burrison and Lee Malloy, his many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Predeceased by his daughter Jennifer Wilson. Don was the co-owner of Wilson Floor Design for the past 35 years. He was a member and past president of the Greater Fort Erie Chamber of Commerce and the Ridgeway Lions Club and loved the Washademoak Lake. The family would like to thank, St Catharines General Hospital, Dr Giesbrecht and staff, Dr. Wilczynski and staff, St Elizibeth Health Care and Comcare for treating Don with compassion and dignity during his illness. McPHEE, Mildred “Millie“ Anna R.N. - Peacefully at St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre on Saturday, July 18, 2009, in her 80th year, Millie McPhee (nee Spencer). Beloved wife of the late Danny McPhee (1994). Loving mother of Ann (P.E.I); George (B.C.); Helen (B.C.); John (Brantford); Rita (B.C.); Alan (Brantford); Peter (B.C.) and Jane (Barrie). Cherished Grandmother of 13 grandchildren. Sister of Jean Curley, George Spencer, Pauline Horsburg, Sylvia Gazzola and Doreen Raco. Millie is survived by many nieces and nephews. Millie graduated as a Registered nurse in the class of 1951. She worked at the Brantford General Hospital and the St. Joseph's Hospital as a nurse. She volunteered with Birthright, the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic, as well as the John Noble Home. She was life long member of the Catholic Women's League. LAPOINTE, Pierrette (née Lussier) - Une grande dame vient de nous quitter et la famille Lapointe aujourd'hui est en deuil. Pierrette Lapointe, (née Lussier) left us peacefully at Queens Garden in Hamilton, on Saturday July 18, 2009 at the age of 89. Née à Ste-Rosalie, Québec o elle a grandi, Pierrette a aussi demeuré á Fauquier, à Niagara Falls et à Dundas. Married in 1945 to Jean-Roch Lapointe, Pierrette gave birth to 10 children. In 1959, she suffered the tragic loss of her fourth child, Donald (9). Three years later, at Christmas time, tragedy struck again taking her husband Jean-Roch (42) and her 2 eldest sons Yves (16) and Marc (15). She went on to raise her seven remaining children ranging in age from 5 months to 13 years. Then in 1980, her fifth child, Marcel (28) disappeared suddenly. She leaves behind 6 loving children: Renée (Jean-Paul), Normand, Lynda (Rich), Christiane (Ron), Robert (Carol) and Michelle. Grand-maman was a caring and loving role model to 10 grandchildren: Brigitte, Sylvie Anne, Marianne, Chantal, Marc, Juliane, Barry, Gene, Catherine and Émilie. Prédécédée par ses frères Armand, Georges et André, elle laisse aussi dans le deuil sa petite sur Yolande ainsi que ses frères Gilles et Urbain. Pierrette was a humble, loving, and selfless woman who dedicated her life to her family. In her many times of hardship, her faith never wavered. To anyone who had the privilege of crossing her path, Pierrette touched and inspired them in a very special way. RICHARDSON, Jason - Jason Richardson of Owen Sound, suddenly on July 17, 2009. He was in his 27th year. Jason will be deeply missed by many people, including his wife Jennifer Smith and their son Jacob, his father Paul Richardson of Meaford, his mother Diane Richardson of Southampton, sister Jamie and stepsister Stefanie. HOPKINS, Donald MacLean 2009-07-20 December 29, 1945 - July 15, 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father Donald MacLean Hopkins. Don, age 63, passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2009 with his family by his side. He was born in Fort William and grew up in Vickers Heights where he made many lifelong friends and had many cherished memories. He attended Selkirk High School and moved on to work at Northern Electric, Can Car and finally at Thunder Bay Transit where he was forced to retire due to illness. Donald loved fishing and going to his camp at Whitefish Lake. He was a kid at heart who was always in search of the next “toy” to invest in. His wish finally came true last year when he purchased his Lincoln Continental and Cadillac which he was extremely proud of. Don looked forward to his morning visits from his very good friend Roy Veneruzzo who held a special place in his heart. He will be sadly missed by his wife Anna Marie Hopkins, daughters Kristina (Doug) Oksanen and Suzanne (Paul) Sgambelluri, son Michael (Kim) Hopkins and grandchildren Stephanie, Tyler, Jordan, Brittany, Preston, Ashton, Jasmine, Austin, Aiden and Cole. He is survived by his brother George (Marion) Hopkins (Thornhill, ON), sisters Dorothy (Laurie) Krivoshein and Maxine Trudeau and numerous nieces and nephews including special niece Nicole Macdonald whom he was very close with. He was predeceased by his father Malcolm Hopkins, mother Gladys Hopkins, brother-in-law Joe Trudeau, mother and father-in-law Margaret and Peter Garbaz and granddaughter Courtney Hopkins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 at 11:00am at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church. HUBKA , Robert L. (Bob) Passed away peacefully at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre in Claresholm on July 17, 2009. Bob, beloved husband of Rosella Hubka of Claresholm, is survived by his daughters, Christine (Ron) Haydon of Calgary, Pat (Norm) Canuel and Colleen (Rick) Penner, all of Claresholm and his son, Joe (Erika) Izack of Lethbridge. He is also survived by his seven granddaughters, five grandsons, ten great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Len Bach, sister-in-law, Beulah Hubka, both of Claresholm, and Rosella's brother Ed O'Kane and sister, Mary (Ray) Demerst and family. Bob was predeceased by his father, Frank and sister, Mary in 1933, three sons, Donald in 1956, Allan in 1957 and Leslie in 1967, his mother, Bessie in 1960, brothers, John in 1986, Frank in 1994 and Rudy in 1997, his sister Josephine in 1991 and his grandson, Michael Izsak in 1993. Bob was born April 26, 1924 on the farm south-west of Carmangay, attended Ryckman School until it closed, then finished in Carmangay. He farmed most of his active life with Rosella, taking times to travel with family and just the two in later years. Bob was a Lion member since 1947, which gave the opportunity to serve as District Governor. Holding this position involved a trip to Tokyo for Lion's International Convention. Traveling this distance made it a good trip to see several countries other than Japan. Along with two cruises and trips across Canada and the United States, life had pleasures as well as some trials. Bob started a hobby in 1945 of writing in year books about weather, happenings etc., and has one for each year since. However, there are a few pages skipped! Bob served on many committees, including curling clubs in Carmangay and Claresholm, hall boards, hospital boards, fire protection and the Knights of Columbus. He and Rosella have been faithful members of Christ the King Catholic Church for many years. Bob was the last remaining child of Frank and Bessie Hubka, one of the true pioneer farm families of the Carmangay area, a heritage of which he was extremely proud. He will be fondly remembered for his love of farming and dedication to family.
