LANG , Allan Noble 1960 - 2009 Passed away May 23, 2009 at Rosedale Hospice after an incredible three year journey with bone cancer. Passionate about the great outdoors, Allan engaged in fishing and hunting and coached soccer, hockey and baseball in Bowness. Allan, a SAIT graduate, was a valued employee in auto mechanics and sales at Sears Auto Center, North Hill for over twenty years. Surviving Allan are his mother Lillian Lang, his son and daughter, Kenneth and Kassandra Lang and their grandmother Marguerite Lynch, his sister Darlene Clarke, his nephews and nieces, great- nieces and nephew, and closest friend Sam Valliere. Allan was predeceased by Sandra and their infant son Stanny, his father Bill Lang and brother John Lang. Special thanks to all Allan's doctors and palliative care nurses and attendants for their compassionate care. LAPIERRE , Nicola Jane December 10, 1958 - May 24, 2009 Nicola Lapierre, beloved wife of Dan of Calgary, lost her battle with cancer in the Foothills Medical Centre on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the age of 50 years. She was born to Bill and Heather Elliott on December 10, 1958 in Barnehurst, Great Britain. Nicola leaves behind her beloved husband; daughter Jade Anderson and son Lee Lapierre both of Calgary, AB; mother Heather Hitchcock of Peachland, BC; sister Katie (Murray), nephew Jessie and niece Kristina Northcott of Edmonton, AB; as well as numerous family members in England and friends everywhere. Beloved wife of Grant McAuley. Predeceased by husbands Don Schamahorn and Frank Phair. Donna was born to the late Ethridge and Gertrude Martin. Donna was a longtime local businesswoman with many affiliations in the city. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of Zonta, the director of the Sweet Adelines, founder of Block Parents, a member of the Chatham Concert Band and a volunteer for the Heart Foundation. BURKE, Mary - Sadly we say goodbye to Mary who passed away on May 26, 2009 in her 90th year at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. Predeceased by her husband Wilfred (1990) and grandson Michael (1995). Mary will be sadly missed by her loving family; daughter Sharon, son Douglas (Karen), grandchildren Tracey Potter (Paul), David Burke (Natasha), Johanna Owen (Grant). Cherished great-grandmother to Kaitlyn and Sarah Potter, Aidan and Colin Burke and Nathan Owen. Survived by siblings Mabel Philipiew, Natalie Pysemny and Metro Leniuk of Saskatchewan and John Leniuk (Ella) of Alberta. Mary was a long time member of Olivet United Church and will be remembered for many years of knitting and baking for various church functions. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and was a very big part of her grandchildren's lives. Her great- grandchildren brought her much happiness as she watched them grow. A special thank you to Dr. Anne Woods and the staff of CTU and CTU West at St. Joseph's Hospital for the wonderful care our mother received. PATERSON, Laura (nee McCormick) Passed away, at the Royal Victoria Hospital, on May 24, 2009, at the age of seventy-one years. Loving mother of Derek (Chantal), Bryan (Audra) and Deborah (Robert). Dear grandmother of Amanda, Taylor, Emma, Ashley, Kyle and Ryan. Laura will be sadly missed by her brothers, sisters, family and friends. STRATYCHUK , Valerie Kathleen (Grandma) Passed away at Regina General Hospital on May 24, 2009 at the age of 72 years. Val is survived by her son Kirk (Abbey, Eden, Joseph and Bethel Desta); her daughter Leah (Dan); grandson Jessie; granddaughter Brooklynn all of Wolseley, Saskatchewan; two brothers James (Gwen) of Cochrane, Philip (Yvonne) of Calgary; sister Jeanette (Ted) Stewart of Calgary; sister-in-law Helen McRae; as well as many friends, in-laws, nieces, nephews, godchildren Candissie McCormack and Barbie Stratychuk and Cheryl Audette and the friends she has made in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. SNODDON, Lawrence Douglas - Larry was born October 21, 1941, and passed away suddenly May 24, 2009. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Larry was predeceased by his father Jack Snoddon. He is survived by his mother Nora Snoddon, sisters Lorraine Willett (Kerry) and Karen Munro (Roger Ringuette), and brothers David (Joey) and Ken (Crystal), son David (Danielle) and daughters Jo-Anne Barber (Glen) and Lisa Drinkwalter (Trent). Larry had a special place for his grandchildren, Devin, Natasha, Robbie, Megan, Jack and Joe as well as his nieces and nephews Neil, Erica (Gavin), Laura, Yolaina, Jesse, Katy, Olivia, Polly, Arthur, Connor and Brooke. He will be particularly missed by his close friends Doug, Theresa, Murray and Carolyn, Wayne (deceased) and their children Travis, Wendy and Connie who considered him a dear uncle. Larry gave his time freely and was always happy to lend a hand when it was needed. Whether it was fixing a leaky roof, building a set of shelves, removing trees or picking out the family's “Charlie Brown“ Christmas tree, he was there. He enjoyed a gag or two, having coffee with friends, hiking with his grandchildren, his annual hunting and fishing trips, a game of chess or hockey game and planning his next project. Larry “retired“ as a stationary engineer with the NBPH in 2000, but his services and knowledge were greatly valued and he continued to work for several companies including Tembec and Goodyear. Larry was very resourceful and would rather build or fix something himself than buy it new. He built a home from scratch in the 1970's on Trout Lake, staked his claim to an amethyst mine, was an accomplished painter and always had many projects on-the-go. Larry was an avid fisherman who knew Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake well and would often share his catch-of-the-day with family and friends. Every year he took part in his son's fishing derby and he enjoyed taking the fishermen/women out to his favourite fishing spots during the family reunions at the Waltonian. The family will receive friends at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME, Friday, May 29 between 2 p.m. - 4 p.m and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Donations can be made to the Salvation Army. 11525774

WALEWSKY , Wasyl "Bill" February 16, 1928 - May 22, 2009 "What would I give to clasp his hand, His happy face to see, To hear his voice and see his smile, That meant so much to me." It is with true sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Walewsky on May 22, 2009. Bill was the wonderful husband of thirty-one years to Vivian, stepfather to Allan (Zeny) Fergusson and Sandy Kuss (Garland), brother-in-law to Stu Fessey and father-in-law to Mardi Fergusson; loving grandfather to Jody Fergusson (Jim), Chrissy Fergusson (Paul), Azley and Christopher Fergusson, Sherri (Ken) Lay and Dwayne Kuss; great-grandfather to Alyssa and Austin, Taila, James and Joey, Alex and Jessica; very special "uncle" to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their families and great-great-nephew Nicholas, for whom he always had a big smile. Bill was predeceased by his mother, father and numerous siblings, his stepson Rocky and his grandson Blaine. After retiring from thirty-one years at CP Rail, Bill and Vivian enjoyed many wonderful years together, traveling across the provinces, camping and socializing with their many friends and family. Always with the special children in their lives coming to spend the summer with them. His three favorite loves were his wife, his cars and playing pool. We would like to send a special thank you to the staff of the Foothills Unit 32, who took such wonderful care of Bill as well as the staff of the Southwood Hospice who made Bill's final days comfortable for both him and the family at his side. SIIPOLA, Eeva 2009-05-26 Eeva Elisabeth Siipola (nee Isosaari) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2009 with family by her side. Eeva was born in Kokkola, Finland on December 27, 1933. She was the 5th eldest of 11 siblings. Eeva is survived by her son, Perry Siipola (Melindie) and twin daughters, Susan Ross (Chris) and Shirley Siipola (Elie). Also to mourn Eeva‘s passing are her 5 grandchildren, Patricia Siipola (Murphy), Linda Ledger (Sean), Matrix Siipola (Kate), Dylan Siipola and Trinity Siipola, 2 great-grandchildren, Tristan and Keira. Also survived by her sister Kaija Heikkinen (Jaska) and brothers Olli, Gunnari and Matti Isosaari and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as her special friends Topi Gylden, Sister-in-law Ankku Isosaari, and good friends Marjatta and Kassu Korte, Eeva Koivu, Seija Makilainen, Rauni Yrjana, Sinnikka and Kauko Ylinen. Eeva was predeceased by her husband Raimo, her parents and several siblings. In 1992, after Raimo’s passing, Eeva moved to Luther Court where she lived until she was hospitalized. She had many good friends and made new friends in the building. There, she liked to help out with Finnish meals for special occasions in the common room, she spent many hours reading. She also enjoyed playing cards with the girls, trying her luck at Bingo and the Casino and spending time with her family and friends and attending church regularly. She also enjoyed her visits to the Suomi Koti Library with Pentti. A Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Eeva loved to brag about her family. She was not shy to share her opinion, and usually would just tell it like it was. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorium service to be held a later date. Donations to the Diabetes Association & The Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff of 4 North at St. Joseph‘s for the wonderful and compassionate care our mother received. MARTENS , Elfriede It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Aunt and Great-Aunt, Elfriede Martha Martens, at the age of 89 years. Elfriede is predeceased by her beloved husband Jake and her adored son Roy. She leaves behind her nephew Helmut Alt of Calgary, and nieces, Heidrun Schroeder and Marianne Schiffner of Germany and their families. Elfriede was born in Ruhbank, Germany on April 30, 1920. She enjoyed working for the German Army as a telephone operator for many years and then immigrated to Canada in the early 1950's to start a new life. In Canada, she met and married Jacob Martens. The couple adopted their son Roy, and Jake started his successful business as the "Island Sharp Shop" in Inglewood. Elfriede lived her life to the fullest and easily made many dear and cherished friends in Germany, Canada, England and Australia throughout her lifetime. She touched people's lives, gladly helped anyone in need, and freely gave of her time. Her true passion was fashion. The family wishes to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the compassionate and caring medical team of Unit 73 of the Rockyview Hospital.
