JAMES, Robert Arthur 2009-03-30 Our husband, father and grandpa, Mr. Robert Arthur James passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009 in TBRHSC with his family by his side at the age of 81 years. Dad had a tough battle the last few years and in true Scot manner, he battled through the many health obstacles presented to him along his path. He was born February 12, 1928 to David and Alma James. Dad attended Central, Cornwall and Pine Street Public Schools. He graduated from Port Arthur Technical and Commercial in 1947. After graduating in June of 1947, he left for Terrace Bay to work for Fraser Brace on the construction of the Kimberly Clark Mill leaving there in December of 1947. He worked for the Department of Public Works taking sounding through the ice on Lake Superior. On February 16, 1948 he started to work for Ontario Hydro. He stayed there for 38 years. During this time he married our mom, Heather and raised two children, Carol and Robbie. His children and his family came first and he worked so hard to give us a good life filled with countless special moments and secret little presents. Everyone has something that he gave us with a special memory, meaningful only to them. Dad enjoyed curling, hockey and golf. After retiring in February of 1986, he worked part time as a marshall on the three city golf courses for three years. He was a member of the Port Arthur Curling Club for fifteen years and a kept news articles that said "James Still Jolts ’Em" and "A Ghost Returns to Topple Tetley". He continued to curl with the Ezduzit Curling Club at the Port Arthur Curling Club and the Fort William Curling Club for 19 years and was president for the 1992/93 years and in charge of hosting the 60t Bonspiel for senior curlers from Northwestern Ontario in November 1993 and again in June of 1995 and 1999 and 2001. Dad organized bonspiels and golf tournaments for the Ezyduzits Curlers twice a year at the Centennial golf Course in June and September. He enjoyed many good games of golf with his good friend George Kahan at the Centennial Golf Course. Dad was kept busy aside from work and curling being the president of the Port Arthur Civic Hockey League for 20 years for which he received awards for 22 years of helping (coaching ) and 20 years as president. Dad was honoured for his service with the Northwestern Ontario Electrical League for approximately 30 years of service, 4 as president and 15 as an executive member. He was a part time volunteer driver for his wife with the Meals on Wheels Program. In his spare time, Dad enjoyed his camp at Crescent Bay on Lake Superior always busy planning the next camp improvement. Dad was predeceased by his mother in 1948 and his father in 1979. He is survived by Heather, his wife of 56 years, two children Carol and her husband Lorne White and daughter Erin-Elise, and Robert and his wife Leslie (Desi) and sons Blair and Kaleb. Dad set the framework for this notice, true to form and office-like and organized, making it easy for us even now. We will all miss our grandpa, dad and husband but his memory and mannerisms live on in each of us. Love you! Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Canon John E. Jordan officiating. Services will be complete in the chapel with a reception to follow in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated. Jessie Georgina MacDonald, daughter of the late Wilmot and Lena MacDonald, of the MacDonald Road, Glenwood, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday morning, March 24, 2009, at the age of 74. Born in Glenwood, on August 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Wilmot and Lena I. (MacDonald) MacDonald. She was a former employee of the Dept. of National Defense, employed in the Junior Ranks Mess at the former CFB Chatham as well as a former employee of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, Miramichi. She was an adherent of St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge. She is survived by two brothers, Dallas MacDonald (Cecile) and Wayne MacDonald (Anna), all of Glenwood; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four sisters, Edna MacLean, Shirley Fitzpatrick, Verne Wiedman and infant Marjorie MacDonald; three brothers, Hayward, and infants Osborne and Wayne MacDonald. Visiting was Wednesday afternoon and evening. The funeral service was held from St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge, on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. David Cleveland. The music for the service was supplied by Mr. Ken Simpson and the hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". The honorary pallbearers were Burpee Harris, Calvin MacDonald, Tony MacDonald, Vince MacDonald, Douglas McLean, Robert McLean. The active pallbearers were Kenny Fitzpatrick, Lawrence MacDonald, Shawn MacDonald, Terry MacDonald, Tony McLean, Jason Walsh. HURST, Albert Harold July 25, 1931 - March 27, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Harold Hurst at the age of 77, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Albert was born in Port Credit, Ontario on July 25, 1931 and moved to the district of Parry Sound in 1949. There he married Betty Rose Horne on June 27, 1959 and moved his family to Calgary in 1974. Albert was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his loving wife, seven children, fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nine brothers, six sisters and all who knew him. JOHNSTON, James Hamilton Peacefully in hospital on Friday, March 27, 2009. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, July 11, 1919, he immigrated to Vancouver, BC in 1924. Son of the late James and Grace (Duncan) Johnston. Married 62 years to his beloved wife June. Father of Sherry Ann (Robert) Potter of Gananoque and Robert Andrew of Calgary. Will be remembered and missed by his granddaughter and great-grandchildren from Belleville. Jim joined the RCAF in 1939 and served in the Aleutian Islands with US Forces attached with the RCAF Bomber Squadron. He transferred overseas in 1943 and was stationed in Yorkshire. After returning to Canada in 1945 he re-enlisted in 1948 and served for another 25 years. After retirement from the RCAF as a photographer, Jim worked at Energy, MInes and Resources in the Air Photographic Survey and Remote Sensing Department. Jim was a member of Masonic Acacia Lodge 561 in Ottawa and a Life Member of Branch 589 Royal Canadian Legion, Osgoode.Jim was awarded the Order of Osgoode in 2001 and the Dick McLaughlin Memorial Senior Award in 2003. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Highland Golf Club. Jim and his wife were world travellers and the highlight of his travels was trekking with Sir Edmond Hillary in the Himalayans. A legion service followed by a memorial service will be held at St. James United Church, Main Street, Osgoode on Wednesday, April 1st at 1 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Humane Society of Ottawa, 101 Champagne Avenue South, Ottawa K1S 4P3. MESSENGER, Etoile - Etoile passed away March 20th at the Georgian Manor, Penetanguishene in her 91st year. She is predeceased by Cecil her husband of 52 years and son Ken and is survived by daughter Joanne Wyatt (Chuck). Grandchildren Lorelee Messenger (Jason), Michael Messenger (Krista), and their mother Barbara, Emma Wyatt (Clayton), Bill Wyatt (Joanne), and great grandchildren Teggan Messenger, Emily and Taylor Wyatt. Etoile enjoyed volunteer work at her church and community prior to working for 25 years with The Children's Aid Society for The District of Timiskaming. her commitment to the children and Families she worked with was impressive. She enjoyed reading, knitting, painting, cooking, the Cottage and their home in Florida. Etoile was an outgoing happy person that loved her children and grandchildren. MURRAY, Edna MacKenzie (nee Morrow) February 8, 1930 - March 28, 2009 We are sad to announce the passing of Edna MacKenzie Murray, our well-loved wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend, who passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the age of 79 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Edna was born on February 8, 1930 in Calgary, where she was raised and educated. She was dedicated to her career at Sears, retiring in 1985 from her position as a Senior Department Manager. Edna fostered a love for golf, bridge, family gatherings and many Maui sunsets. Edna's spirited and feisty nature will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Bevan Murray; three daughters, Kerri (Don) Fipke, Barb (Dwayne) Sluggett of Red Deer, and Sandy (Rob) Pedlar; and son David (Jean) Murray. She is also survived by three brothers, Malcolm of Kamloops, Kirk (Carole) of England and Durban (Laurelle) Morrow of Ottawa; as well as brother-in-law Ron (Pam) Murray of Toronto and daughter-in-law Dallas King of Medicine Hat. Edna was the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; dearest friend Ruthie Dodson; and Bevan's daughter Debbie Murray (Harvey Komhyr). Edna was predeceased by her son Rod King and sister Barbara Holfeld. BÉGIN (M. André) André, tu nous as quittés beaucoup trop jeune. Tu nous laisses une leçon de courage, d'optimisme et de positivisme. Le 19 mars 2009, est décédé à sa résidence de St-Romuald de Lévis, paisiblement et entouré de l'amour des siens, à l'âge de 56 ans et 11 mois, André Bégin, époux de Nicole Lafleur. Il est né et a vécu plusieurs années à Jonquière. La famille accueillera les parents et amis le vendredi 3 avril 2009, à compter de 10 h à l'église St- Antoine de Tilly et les funérailles suivront à 11 h. Les cendres seront inhumées au cimetière de St- Antoine de Tilly. Il laisse dans le deuil outre son épouse, ses fils: Nicolas et Pierre-Luc; sa mère Yolande Tremblay; ses soeurs, frères, conjoints, neveux et nièces. Mrs Donna Mae Sawchuk May 3, 1936 - March 25, 2009 - It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Mrs. Donna Mae Sawchuk (nee White), with her family at her side at Grace Hospice on March 25, 2009 at the age of 72 years. Despite Donna’s ongoing health problems, she always had a sparkle in her eye and a chuckle in her heart. Donna will live on in the hearts of her husband Ed; children Lorie (Tim) Kinneberg, Brian (Wanda) Sawchuk and their children Ryan, Jennifer and Sarah, Brenda (Deb Lincoln) Sawchuk and their children Jessica and Brian; as well as numerous relatives, friends and grand dogs. Donna was predeceased by her parents Elsie and Gus; her brothers Jerry, Roger and Bobby; and her snoop sister Betty White. The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospice for their compassion and kindness throughout mom’s stay. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Donna’s memory to the Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6. It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of a very courageous and loved man. Pasquale Montaleone passed away surrounded by his loving family at the age of 71. Loving husband of Concetta (nee Dattilo). Predeceased by his parents Maria Rosa and Rosario Montaleone and his in-laws Antonia and Giuseppe Dattilo. Devoted father and friend of Roy and Liana, Joe and Josie, Rosa and Tony Ferro, Gino and Robin and Tony and Susan. Cherished grandfather to Sonia, Nina, Pat, Nick, Vanessa, Daniela, Antonio, Jessica, Elaina, Christina, Melissa and Angela. Dear brother of Teresa and the late Antonio Salinitri ( Italy), Francesca and Filippo Salinitri, Fortunato and the late Grazia Montaleone, Tona and Nicola Chine and Giuseppe and Susan Montaleone.
