MOKA, Teresa Elizabeth (nee Manion) January 22, 1925 - January 19, 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Teresa Elizabeth Moka, of Calgary, on Monday, January 19, 2009 at the age of 83 years. Teresa was born in Ontario and moved to Calgary to work in the oil and gas industry. She was employed with Dome Petroleum for many years. Teresa loved to have a good laugh and was always passing on the latest joke. Teresa loved to go to the Carriage House Inn with family and Zellers where she enjoyed meeting with friends over coffee. Teresa had a deep respect for and faith in God. Teresa leaves behind her daughter Mary Ann and her husband Dennis Gaehring; four grandchildren, Megan, Rachel, Ryan and Jennifer; and her beloved sister Helen and her husband Frank O'Leary. Teresa was predeceased by her husband Raymond Moka; two brothers, Philip and Bill Manion; and two sisters, Catherine Haines and Mary Pat Mason. BUCK, John Martin December 28, 1925 - January 17, 2009 John Martin Buck of Calgary passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the age of 83 years. John was an Anglican priest, Civil Engineer, instructor, and backyard mechanic - a true Renaissance man. We delight that, as he would say, he has gone to see Jesus face-to-face. John was born in Ottawa on December 28, 1925 and raised in Verdun, Montreal. John and Laurel lived on the same street and first met in elementary school. John graduated from McGill University with a B.Eng. and later went back to McGill's Montreal Diocesan College to take a Master of Theology (STM). John and Laurel moved to the Gatineau in Quebec for his first, 6-point parish. Eight years in Chateauguay followed, where John led the parish in building St. George's church. In 1965, John and Laurel packed up their four boys and the family dog and drove to Calgary where he became the Associate Priest of the parish of Christ Church. They maintained their roots in Quebec, returning every summer to the family cottage that John built at Little Red Pine Lake. In 1967, John undertook his own centennial project and became an instructor of Math and Physics at SAIT. He taught for twenty-three years, a respected teacher who treated his adult students with compassion and understanding. At the same time, John continued as a worker-priest in a team ministry. John fell in love with western Canada when he travelled to Saskatchewan as a teenager in wartime to help bring in the crops. He shared his love of the land with his family, teaching the boys to ski, boating in the Shuswap and at Waterton, and camping in the eight-man tent all across Canada. John was a man who could fix a dryer with an old nylon stocking while exploring the finer points of New Testament theology or the workings of the internal combustion engine. He had a quick walk, a sharp mind, and a loyal and generous heart. He lives on. John is lovingly remembered by Laurel, his wife of sixty years; sons, Martin (Irene), Jack (Tracy), Stephen (Julia) and Tom (Lisa); and grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua (Michelle, who is expecting his great-grandson), Emily, Katie, John, Laurel and Melanie. PERROTTA, Santo - October 29, 1925- January 15, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Santo Perrotta, a dear husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great grandfather. Beloved husband of 62 years to Maria (Passarelli) Perrotta. Cherished father of Josephine (Rick) Leszczynski and Meleiga “Micki” (Mike) Abrosimoff. Dearest nonno to grandchildren Krista (Chris), Trisha (Graeme) and Meaghan. Dearest great grandfather of Owen. Predeceased by his parents Carlo and Josephine Maria Perrotta. Dear brother of Frank (Josephine) Perrotta, Maria Michela (Adamo) Timperio, Benedetta (the late Michael) Pirro, the late Pasquale survived by his wife Michelina Perrotta and the late Michael (the late Fiorenzina) Perrotta. Santo worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway retiring in 1988. Santo always put his family first before all else. He had a great passion for music, gardening and family celebrations. He will be greatly missed. In the past four years he and his wife resided in Chatham, Ontario to be close to their children. Santo and Maria were greatly blessed by wonderful neighbours. BELUSHAK, Michael - Passed away at his home on Saturday, January 17, 2009 in his 90th year. Mike will be sadly missed by his loving wife, soul mate and best friend Sally. November 24th would have been their 64th anniversary; they were inseparable best friends and polka dancing partners, working together till the end. He will be sadly missed by his children Donna (Richard), Kim and Michael (Ann) and his granddaughter Alicia who was his pride and joy. Mike touched the hearts and lives of countless people, more than we will ever know. For 35 years he was a mechanic in Welland and St. Catharines and an apprentice teacher (mechanics) at Conestoga College in Guelph for 14 years. Mike was known to be “Mr. Fix It”; always helping others and working around the house. He was like the energizer bunny, he kept going and going until he finally wore out. At Michael's request cremation has taken place. Rev. Phyllis, wife of the late Earl Morton (1987) and the late Arnold Guerin (1965). BROUGHTON, Mary February 25, 1923 - January 18, 2009 Mary Broughton of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Mary was born in Penarth, Wales on February 25, 1923, the youngest of ten siblings. She spent her early years working on a dairy farm, where she became a champion milkmaid. In 1959, she immigrated to Canada with her sister Constance and her niece Suzanne. Together they made a new life in Canada. Mary always worked hard, spending twenty-six years as a veterinary assistant at the 17th Avenue Animal Hospital. Mary is survived and will be terribly missed by her niece Suzanne (Michael) and her great-niece Rowan, along with a large extended family in England and Wales. Mary dearly loved her animal companions, and will now join Belle, Nova, Teak, and Boy-Boy on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Loving father of Ronald Ménard of Timmins, Suzanne Lauzon (Michel) of Val Caron, Ginette Soulière (Gilbert) of Astorville, Normand Ménard (Louise) and Danielle Viau (Eugene) both of Hanmer. Dear brother of Fernande Beaudry (late Olida), Robert Ménard (Jeannette), Jeannine Billard (Maurice) all of Cornwall and Royal Ménard (Sacred Heart Brother) of Timmins. Predeceased by his brothers Marcel Ménard (Pauline of Ottawa), Lucien Ménard (Rollande of Cornwall), Gilles Ménard (Jeanne d'Arc of Cornwall) and Fernand Ménard (Laurette of Cornwall). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his 12 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. After 34 1/2 years of service as a miner with Inco, Mr. Ménard soon became a snow bird and enjoyed the warm weather for the past 25 years. He had a passion for lawn bowling and 2 years ago he earned a Championship Award of which he was very proud. She worked as an occupational therapist at Laurentian Hospital and at C.C.A.C. After starting her family Laurie managed her husband's optometry practice in the Bonaventure Mall, Chelmsford. She was also involved with the Sudbury Minor Hockey Association and loved watching her boys play hockey and soccer. Her favorite retreat was the cottage on Manitoulin Island. Marjorie Mary McDonald, Charlottetown The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Palliative Care Unit of the Prince Edward Home on Monday, January 19, 2009, of Mrs. Marjorie McDonald (nee McDearmid) of Kenwood Circle, Charlottetown, age 72 years. Beloved wife of Lawrence McDonald and dear mother of Deborah McDonald, Lynn Allen, Stephen (Susan) McDonald, Paul McDonald and Chris McDonald. Marjorie is also lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her brothers, George (Doris) McDearmid, Kenny (Josie) McDearmid, her sisters, Dale (Eldon) Sentner, Heather (Joe) Gill, Colleen MacGregor and many nieces and nephews. ELCHESON, Christine 2009-01-20 Christine (Chris) Elcheson passed away peacefully Thursday 15 evening with her family and friends at her side. Chris was born October 21st, 1957 in Port Arthur, Ontario. She was educated at Hammarskjold, Westgate and Confederation College. She was employed first at Provincial Papers, where she met her loving husband, Joey, and later at Superior Coatings. She enjoyed working part-time for Nell at Lakeside Husky. She loved dining at Bistro One, cooking, reading, knitting, Coronation Street and being at home with family and friends. Chris was predeceased by her parents Clifford (Bob) and Mary Walsh and her twin sister, Constance, at birth. Chris will be sadly missed by her husband Joseph and their "puppies", Skylar and Cooper, her sisters Rosemary (Ray) Koivisto and Colleen (Mark) Todd of White Lake, Ontario, brother-in-law Don Hemsworth, her nieces Richelle (Jeff) Prouse, Erin Hemsworth, and Ryleigh (Dan) Geier of White Rock, BC, and her great niece and nephew, Finnoula and Berrit Prouse. Cremation has taken place and friends will be received on Wednesday January 21st at 11:00 am at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Canon John Jordan presiding. Mr. Gerald James Conrad October 26, 1928 - January 13, 2009 80, Hammonds Plains, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Riverport, he was a son of the late Titus and Enid (Joudrey) Conrad. Gerald spent his early years at sea working on oil tankers on the Great Lakes, before working 36 years with the Department of Highways, retiring in 1990. He was always busy and loved working in the garden and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria (Reinhardt); sons, Terry (Sherry), Lower Sackville; Peter (Debbie), Hammonds Plains; Kyle (Kristal), Tantallon; daughters, Barbara Burke, Halifax; Tina (Gerry) Westlake, Beaver Bank; sister, Barbara Schmidt, Kentville; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son in infancy; brothers, Harold, Bruce, Arnold and sisters, Pauline Strong and Winnie Conrad. A special thank you to the Nursing Staff of 5A the VG Site, QEII. David John Nichols December 22, 1960 - January 14, 2009 Surrounded by his family and listening to his favourite tunes David passed away on Wednesday, January 14th, 2009 at the age of 48 years. He was born on December 22nd, 1960. To treasure his memory he leaves behind his children Michael, Amber and Brayden, his mother Viva Nichols, sisters Bonnie (Al) Striemer, Connie (Ray) Yablonski, brother Willard (Karen) Nichols and families, father-in-law Mac Barber, brother-in-law Spence (Terry) Barber, sister-in-law Sandy (Ray) Flynn and families, many relatives and countless friends. When he left us he went into the welcoming arms of his wife Shirley, father Clarence and mother-in-law Greta. David worked at various jobs including Norsask Tire, Fountain Tire and most recently Ridsdale Transport. David was an open-hearted, out-going happy person. He had an infectious laugh and beautiful smile as well as a fantastic sense of humour. His children were his priority and he loved them deeply. Other loves he had were gardening, landscaping and more recently he was experimenting with different types of wood-carving. He was also a talented artist. No matter what his interests were he always had time to spend with friends and family. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 19th at 3:00 p.m. from Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing).
