MILLER, Ruby Viola - With her family by her side passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Frost Manor in Lindsay, at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Frank G. Hiner and the late John A. Miller. Sadly missed but cherished forever by her son Francis Hiner and his wife Wanda, daughters Sandra Dusome and Anne Whitfield from Orillia and her son George Hiner and his wife Adele from Oakwood. Loving grandmother of Rhonda, Kevin, Cheryl (Bill) Payne, Jennine and Gord Marnoch of Innisfil, Arthur Sinn and Robbie Curtis, Diane and Nancy (Oneil) Pryce, Tommy, Steven (predeceased) and Jason and Megan. Great grandmother of Jamie, Jennifer, Brennan, Joey, Tyler, Zachery, Trevor, Derek, Jenna, Gordon, Troy, Grand, Shanika, Tarik and Kayla. Stepmother to John and Ester of Newmarket, Janice and Barry of Lindsay, Carol and Bill of Pefferlaw, Chris (predeceased) and Terry of London and Laura of Scarborough, and step grandmother of ten. Loving sister to Betty Winterstein, Delbert Yakeley, Hep Yakeley, Beatrice James, Marion Stewart, Marjory Keetch and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Lloyd, Oliver, William and Ernest. GEOFFROY, “Jeff” Jean Claude - Passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Monday, January 19, 2009 at the age of 65. Beloved husband of seven years to Cecelia “Celey” (MacKinnon) Geoffroy. Dearly loved father of Dean (Debbie), Michelle Geoffroy (Lester), Todd, Stacey Fannell and Ryan (Tracy) all of St. Catharines. Loving grandfather of eleven grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his step-children Lantz MacKinnon (Debbie), Lois Scott (Joe), Larry MacKinnon (Debbie) all of Niagara Falls and Lynne Steinmetz (George) of New Jersey and three step-grandchildren. Mr. Geoffroy is survived by his four sisters, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews. He worked for Empire Transportation for over 20 years. HUCKSTEP John Joseph - Born Auckland New Zealand 6th October, 1930. Passed away January 17, 2009. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Paula Granato and survived by his sister Patricia Palmer and sister-in-law Faye Huckstep and their families in N.Z. and Paula's, Clifford and Carmen Mallette and family in Levack Ontario. 1955 John immigrated to Toronto Canada and joined the Stock Broker Bongard and Co. resulting in a 35 year career ending as a Head Trading attorney with Gardiner Watson / Dean Witter on the Toronto Stock Exchange trading floor. Through the 70's and 80's John and Paula enjoyed boating with friends and as bridge members and Commodore of the Toronto Humber Yacht Club. A musician for many years he referred to himself as just a small dance band piano player. 1991 John and Paula retired to St. Catharines where John was able to return to a first love of flying and an avid interest in aviation with new and close friends. DOBROVITZ, Thomas - Passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Saturday, January 17, 2009 in his 87th year. Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Theresia Dobrovitz (nee Mader). Dear father of Theresia Zierle and her husband Juergen and Anna Boutilier and her husband Douglas. Loving Opa of Dennis Zierle (Carolle) and Alicia Boutilier (Brent Raycroft) and great grandfather of Julie Melissa Zierle, Stacy Lynn Zierle, Gus Boutilier Raycroft and Morris Boutilier Raycroft. Stepbrother of Ferdinand Dobrovitz and Maria Fajta (nee Burst) both of Hungary. He was predeceased by his stepbrother Thomas Burst. Thomas was born on February 11, 1922 in Vecses, Hungary where he grew up and married his wife in 1945. After serving in World War 2 he started a new life in Germany where his daughters were born. In 1965 he immigrated to Canada with his family where he loved living in the country and farming. Thomas was a good person with a sense of humour who loved to sing and play cards. He leaves wonderful memories of Christmas when he had his children and grandchildren sing Christmas songs before opening presents. “We will all miss you Opa”. Friends may call at J.J. Wade Eugene DesRoches It is with profound sadness the family of Wade Eugene DesRoches announces his passing on Monday, January 12, 2009 at the age of 52 at Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Oakville, Ontario. Formerly of Bristol, NB, Wade was a devoted husband to his wife of 29 years, Susan (Turner), and loving father to Sarah. Besides enjoying a successful career as an investment banker, Wade was an avid golfer, sports fan, and driving enthusiast; he recently fulfilled his dream of racing an open wheel Indy car. Besides his wife and daughter, Wade will be greatly missed by his brother Brent (Lisa), of Glassville, NB, sisters Lynn, of Bristol, NB and Stacey (Arthur Taylor) of Oakland, NB, and many dear friends. Wade is predeceased by his parents, Carole and Eugene DesRoches of Bristol, and brother Don of Toronto, Ontario. Services were held at St. Jude's Anglican Church in Oakville on Friday, January 16, 2009, followed by a celebration of Wade's life at the King's Arms Pub, also in Oakville. Interment will take place in the Bristol Community Cemetery at a later date. ROBINSON, Clifford Brian Clifford Brian Robinson, beloved husband of Harriet Tanaka of Calgary, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2009 at the age of 59. Cliff was born on May 15, 1949 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The family moved to several towns in Saskatchewan and Alberta before settling in Claresholm in 1966. From there Cliff moved to Calgary to attend SAIT and worked as a diesel mechanic until he joined the Calgary Fire Department in 1978. He culminated his careers as Captain at No. 10 Station. Cliff loved the great outdoors especially skiing, hiking and scuba diving. Cliff and Harriet enjoyed many adventures together in their travels to Africa, Australia, Central American, and many tropical destinations. Cliff was a dedicated, loving, and caring husbands as well as Harriet's best friend. He was always there to help his family and friends. Cliff was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Adeline Robinson. Cliff will be lovingly remembered by his wife Harriet; sister Rosemary (Nestor, daughter Candace (Marc and children Cassondra and Nicole) and son Trevor (Audrey and children Brandon and Megan); sister Donna (Wayne, son Vince (Cristina), daughter Heather); brother Clayton (Donna, daughter Tamara (Shuane and daughter Victoria)); sister-in-law Veronica (Bob, daughter Lisa, child Kendra); sister-in-law Rosalinde (Ben, daughter Jennifer (Ryan), son Russell). He was predeceased by his dear wife, Bernice, in 1987 as well as by his parents and siblings. Devoted father of Sharon Dyroff (son-in-law Jan M. Dyroff), Boston, Massachusetts, Howard Fishbein (daughter-in-law Rhonda Fishbein), Thunder Bay, Ontario and Charlene Lukianchuk (son-in-law Gerald Lukianchuk), Kenora, Ontario. Loving grandfather to Kerry Keohane (Lexington, Massachusetts), Dale Lake (Boston, Massachusetts), Trevor Fishbein (Thunder Bay), Travis Fishbein (British Columbia), Ivan Lukianchuk (Waterloo, Ontario) and Katrina Lukianchuk (Kenora). Great-grandfather to Hadley, Hannah, Madison, Gabriella, Mikayla and Tyler. Also survived by sister-in-law Sarah Fisher and brother-in-law Lou Velin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he relocated to Thunder Bay (then Port Arthur) in 1946 and was always proud to call it home. He was the owner for many years of Charles Furs. He was a veteran of World War II and a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 5. He will be greatly missed by his family. A private family service will be held.

SMITS, Peter J.M. - Passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at 6:00 p.m., at the Princess Margaret Hospital, after a battle with cancer at the ripe age of 71. He leaves behind his loving wife, Imee, of the Philippines, who regretfully cannot be here, his loving sons, Joseph, Peter, Marty and Chris, and his step-daughter, Maude. Peter was born in Den Hague, Holland and lived through WW II and German occupation. He started working for his father in a barber shop at the young age of 11, and was the Dutch National Champion of hairstyling at just 18. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, on a boat, by himself, and with no money. He married Peter and Joe's mother, Agnes, at 19. He met Maryse while working in the Bahamas and they were married in 1970. Maryse had a daughter, Maude, from a previous marriage and together they had Martin and Chris. The “Smits Bunch“, much like the “Brady Bunch“, lived together at 122 Bagot Street. . . a home filled with lots of action and love. Peter was a world class hair stylist and he founded the Market Salon in downtown Kingston. He followed his lifelong dream of becoming an artist and attained his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen's University, in 1994, and won awards for his sculptures. He ran the B & B on Bagot Street and still cut hair downstairs for years at 122. He enjoyed coffee at Andrea's with his best friend, Bob Blenderman, and a cold Heineken while hanging on the front stoop greeting passers by. His wonderful smile and good humour will be missed by all. Recently, he moved to the Philippines to be with his wife, Imee, and really enjoyed their short time together. Our special thanks go to Don Sleeth for everything he has done for Peter and our family. God bless Pete. In keeping with Peter's wishes, cremation will be immediate. A Memorial Mass will take place at ST. MARY'S CATHEDRAL, corner of Johnson and Clergy Streets, on Wednesday, January 21, at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Stan Alanen presiding. The family will receive friends at the church, from 1:00 p.m. until time of Mass. Mrs. Florena Frances Mary Howard February 13, 1915 - January 13, 2009 HOWARD, MARY FLORENA FRANCES ‘FLO” With great sadness, the family of Mary Florena Francis Toner Howard, announce her passing on Tuesday, January 13th, 2009, one month shy of her 94th birthday. Florena, as she was known, was born February 13th, 1915 in Hailebury, Ontario. As she always said, she was going to her reservation. She survived one of Canada’s worst natural disasters, the great Hailebury Fire of 1922 and went on to live a full and happy life. She followed her husband, Fred Howard who was a Police Officer, moving all over Ontario and eventually coming back to settle in Belleville. She is predeceased by: her parents, Joseph & Louise Toner, brother Carl Toner, her husband of 48 years, Fredrick Howard, infant daughter Gloria and her daughter in law, Sandy Howard. She will be deeply missed by: daughters, Joan Howard of Belleville, Wendy Marles (Barry) of London, Ann Howard of Waterloo & son Gary Howard of Belleville.
