Soeur Hélène Jacques, s.c.q. Elle était la fille de feu Félix Jacques et de feu Marie Louise Lambert de Saint-Joseph de Beauce (Qc). La dépouille mortelle sera exposée au salon de la Maison généralice le lundi 19 janvier 2009, de 14h à 21h et le mardi 20 janvier, de 12h30 à 14h. Les funérailles auront lieu le mardi 20 janvier 2009 à 14h en la chapelle de la Communauté des Soeurs de la Charité de Québec, au 2655, rue Guillaume-Le Pelletier, Québec et l'inhumation se fera au cimetière de la communauté à Notre-Dame-de-l'Espérance, Québec, Québec. DOUCET, Suzanne (nee Therrien) August 10th 1956 January 18th 2009 - After a short but courageous battle with cancer Suzanne leaves her unconditional love, best friend and complete soul mate Bill Borgatti, her loving children Steven and Julie, stepchildren Leo Borgatti, Samantha Grenier (Shawn) and granddaughter Aurora Grenier. Survived also by her mother Claudette Therrien (LeCoueDic) predeceased by her father André Therrien, survived by her sister Pauline Gratton (Michel), Monique Therrien, brother Marcel Therrien and several nieces and nephews. Daughter-in-law of Leo Doucet (Sarah) and the late Eileen Pearson. Sister-in-law of Mary Holt, Larry Doucet (Jeanne), Sue Cox (Drew), Mike Doucet, Henry, Ed (Judy), Jim and David (Cindy) Borgatti. Also predeceased by her late Husband Mark Doucet (June 12, 1998), grandparents Alphonse and Imelda Therrien and Paul and Anita LeCoueDic and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Suzanne had a passion for gardening and golf. She cherished spending time with family and friends and trying new recipes. The family will receive their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Parish Community of St. Kevin on Thursday afternoon at 1:30. CRAIG, John McKenzie “Jack“ - Passed away on Saturday, January, 17th 2009 at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Jean (nee Dearie) for 62 years. Loving father of John, Colleen and Kathleen (Philip) Mallory. Dear grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of 2. Survived by sisters Betty (late Jim) Norton of Thorold, Sheila (Fred) Marlow of Simcoe and brother Dr. David (Linda) Craig of Henderson, Texas. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Matthew and Edith (Joyce) Craig, and brothers Matthew and Donald. Jack had many interests in his life time, fishing, hunting, sports, golf, baseball, however his passion was art. He enjoyed visiting art galleries and working on his many paintings. Jack was a volunteer with Community Care, member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17 (Thorold), and for 40 years Jack wrote a weekly column “Here & There“ for the Thorold News. He also wrote a monthly story for his Regiments newsletter “The Albain“. Jack organized the first Art Show in Thorold for the Daffodil Tea. During the Second World War, Jack served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Hamilton and was awarded the Belgian Croix De Guerre avec palm. He worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway as an Electrical Linesman for 35 years before retiring in 1982. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at the HAMMOND FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment at Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold. NICHOL, Thelma Anne (Nee McIntosh) - On January 17th, 2009 at the North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site after a brief illness, in her 82nd year. Predeceased by her parents Mary and Doug, Thelma was the cherished wife of Bill, for over 56 years. Thelma loved and was loved by her children, Heather (John Mandar), Shelagh (Brian Dykstra) and Doug (Marnie). She was the proud grandmother of Alan (Sarah), Kate (Anthony), Jamie, Josh (Sue), Katie, Jamie (Jenn) and Anna Mary, and great- grandmother of Fiona and Braunwyn. Thelma taught elementary school for 36 years, mostly for the Nipissing Board of Education, primarily at Tweedsmuir Public School. During her years teaching, she was a very active member of the Federation of Women Teachers Association of Ontario and served as president on the local executive. Upon retirement, she was named a Life Member of FWTAO, and continued to work with the Retired Teachers of Ontario serving as president of the local District 43 of RTO. Bill and Thelma loved to travel, and in retirement often visited Bill's family in England, and enjoyed winter get-aways to Bermuda. Thelma was a member of the Canadian Club, serving on its executive for many years. She and Bill enjoyed many trips organized through the club including two memorable pilgrimages to Oberammergau. Thelma was a strong supporter of the arts, enjoying concerts performed by the North Bay Symphony and the Choral Society, as well as annual trips to Stratford and many trips to performances in her home town of Toronto. Traditional faith was also important to Thelma, as her many friends at St. Brice's and St. John's well know. She served on numerous church committees and advisory boards, and was a staunch supporter of the Prayer Book Society. Thelma will be remembered for her pride in her Scottish heritage, her strongly held opinions, her deep faith, her devotion to family, and her commitment to friends. She will also be remembered by the countless students whose lives she touched. Family will be receiving friends at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd., on Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 pm and Wednesday January 21, from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Brice's Anglican Church on Thursday morning at 11 am. KERR, Wilson Harris - A resident of Chatham, Wilson Harris passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Friday January 16, 2009 at the age of 83. Born in Wallaceburg, son of the late William and Olive (Harris) Kerr. Loving husband of 35 years to Angela Kerr (nee Hoy). Dear father to Ronald & Karen Kerr of Wallaceburg; Shirley & Lawrie (Kerr) Carter of Waterloo and Nancy & Dale (Kerr) Drew of London. Proud grandfather to Jeff Carter, Hannah Carter, Eric and Melyssa Kerr, Christine and Jason MacDonald, Ian Kerr, Erin Kerr, Rebekah Drew, Kyle Drew, Richard Drew and great-grandfather to Owen Wesley MacDonald. Survived by his brother Donald Kerr of Edmonton. Predeceased by his sister Della Warner. Wilson will be dearly missed by his many brother's and sister's in- law, especially John and Dorothy Hoy, Bernard & Joan Hoy and Loretta Hoy. Wilson is the founder and former owner of Battery Boy on Park Ave. E. and was the owner and operator of Kerr Solar Systems. Wilson's dedication to his community will be missed. As a member of the Kent Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, Evangel Community Church, Loads of Love, The Kent Historical Society, Maple City Centre for Older Adults, Tri-County Square Dance Club, his memory will live on through his contribution to the advancement of these organizations. As a genealogist, Wilson studied genealogy extensively and enjoyed giving courses and teaching others in the subject. A special thank-you is extended to all the staff in the I.C.U at the C.K.H.A. Bob Mack, Calgary The death occurred recently of Bob Mack of Calgary, loving husband of Judy (Buchanan). As was his wish, Bob was able to spend his final days at home with the loving support and nursing care of Judy. Bob was a much-loved member of the Mack and Buchanan families. He is sadly missed by his brother, Jae, and his Aunt Mattie in Tennessee; his sisters, Dianne and Cheryl in Texas; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janet, Donna, Debbie, Leonard and Alan on P.E.I., and Caroline in B.C.; as well as his many nieces and nephews who adored their "Cool Uncle Bob." DEMPSTER, Kathleen (Edgar) 1924- 2009 - It is with heavy hearts we announce our mother, Kay, passed away in the presence of her lord on January 16th, 2009 to join her beloved husband, Ernie in Heaven. A kind, gentle and loving mother, she leaves Lorrie, Elizebeth (Gerard), Ernie (Debbie) and Janet (David) to mourn her passing. She is lovingly remembered by grandchildren, Cameron, Jeremy, Kori, Ryan, Allison, Benjamin, Michelle, Taylor and Caleb, her four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mom was the youngest of a close knit family of nine children having been predeceased by all her brothers and sisters, they are all there waiting for her. Until dementia crept into her life, our mother was an active member of her community in West St. Catharines, volunteering on school committees, canvassing for charity, and supporting her political party, the PC's. She tirelessly volunteered for her church, West St. Andrews Presbyterian, where she was famous for her tea sandwiches, and her aprons. To supplement the household income mom created the most beautiful wedding cakes. She was a creative and innovative woman. Mom was fun-loving and we shared many laughter filled nights around the kitchen table. Mom was always there for her family, she was a wonderful wife who our father adored, she was a strong, amazing mother, she was our best friend, and a wonderful grandmother. We will miss her laugh, her smile and her love. We would like to thank her team of angels on earth, the RN's, the PSW's, and support staff at Millenium Trail Manor. The respect, care, kindness, attention and love she received during her 4 year stay at the home went above and beyond. We will be eternally grateful to her family at the home. Mr. Jean Champagne September 18, 1937 - January 11, 2009 JEAN (JOHN) ARTHUR JOSEPH IVES BEAUGRAND-DIT-CHAMPAGNE Passed peacefully with his loving wife of 17 years, Claudean, by his side at their home in Lafayette, Colorado on January 11, 2009, at the age of 71. Born in St. Norbert, Manitoba September 18, 1937, he graduated from St. Norbert College. Jean worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company and served in the Canadian Navy as a Mechanical Engineer. He had a long career in bicycle manufacturing in Canada before moving onto other business ventures in Arizona and Colorado. Since retiring he spent time golfing, on creative hobbies like stained glass, and as a volunteer at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, where he put his handyman skills to use. Jean had a deep affinity for the natural world and loved being outdoors camping and hiking, and traveling to new places. He always stopped to look at the birds, and appreciated getting up every morning to the view of the mountains from his kitchen window. John was a loving father to his children Cheryl (Dana), Holly (Bob) and Richard (Veronica) from the Greater Toronto Area, and Claudean’s children, Elaine (Mark), Sheila, Alicia (Michael), from the state of Illinois, who will all miss him dearly. His seven grandsons and one great-granddaughter will greatly miss his playfulness and encouragement. He is predeceased by his father Raphaël and his mother Dorilla, as well as his siblings Hervé, Marius, Thérèse and Cécile. He leaves his siblings Alcide (Isabelle), Louis (Simone), David, Jules, André (Claudette) Hélène (Roger), Paul (Laurette) and Juliette (Brian), who will miss his visits. There are also many nieces and nephews who cherish the memory of Uncle Johnny and what he brought to their life. He was a mentor to many, and his absence will be felt by friends and neighbours. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 rue Des Meurons, Winnipeg, Manitoba. SHANDLER, Chantaal Chantaal Shandler (nee Gisele Gorieu) passed away peacefully on January 16, 2009 at the age of 57 after a courageous battle with cancer. She has begun a new journey, one that will begin with an embrace of her beloved father Marcel Gorieu. Her family and friends will mourn her premature passing, all the while understanding that the light she shed in her time will illuminate our lives eternally. Chantaal was the embodiment of devotion, courage, compassion, resilience and persistence. She was a fantastic speaker, story teller, and advisor who was never at a loss for words, except maybe when breaking out in song. She kept singing anyway. Chantaal had a unique flair for the creative and could embellish any room or outfit with a flick of the finger, leaving her light on the spaces and faces of so many. She devoted herself to single motherhood and stubbornly brushed aside the accompanying hardships. Her skillful PR and professionalism served her well in various employments in Saskatoon with the Public School Board, and in Calgary at Mount Royal College and the Government of Canada Passport Office. She did well financially but lived humbly to provide finer things and education funds for her children, Rob and Ronaye, and her three grandchildren, Avery, Jordan, and Payten, who she loved dearly. Through her practice, she preached education and hard work which will echo through future generations. In her honor, her family and friends will assuredly continue to approach life with open minds, open hearts, and open arms. She is survived by her loving mother Denise Gorieu; brothers, Raymond (Simone) Gorieu and Mike (Elaine) Gorieu; sisters, Gillean Shandler, Anita (Bob) Gamwell and many nieces and nephews. MADILL, David Saxon, P. Eng. - Passed away at the P.R.H.C. on Friday, January 16, 2009 after a relatively short battle with cancer. David was in his 72nd year and resided at Clear Lake, Lakefield. David will be loved and missed by his wife Elizabeth (Liz) and children Kenneth and Douglas (Leanna) of Windsor and Julie Madill of Lakefield. Also missed by his sister Joan Maynard (Don) of Powassan and brother Paul (Orize) of Stirling. Survived by several nieces and nephews. David was the son of the late Kenneth and Jean Madill of Lakefield. He was born and raised in Windsor and throughout his boyhood and adolescent years he spent summers at the cottage on Clear Lake where he enjoyed boating, water skiing and his love of the outdoors. As a young man, David also loved jazz and big band music. In his early twenties he played tenor saxophone in a band that performed at the old pavilion near the Lakeshore Tavern in Kingsville. In 1963, David graduated from the University of Windsor with a B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering. During his more than thirty years as a Professional Engineer he became a partner and director in the firm of LaFontaine, Cowie, Buratto & Associates Ltd. (successor firm of C.G. Russell Armstrong). One of his proudest career moments was his first major project, the design and construction of the Belle River-Maidstone Pollution Control Plant. In 1961, David met his true love Liz and they were married in 1963. His family shared his love of the outdoors by spending summers at the same cottage he enjoyed so much as a boy. David retired in 1991 and moved to Clear Lake with Liz where they built their dream home. During the 18 years of his retirement, David and Liz enjoyed special moments traveling to New Zealand and along the east and west coasts of Canada and the US as well as cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. David also rekindled his love of jazz and big band music, playing the tenor and baritone saxophones in various bands and ensembles for the Peterborough New Horizons and the “bari-sax“ for The Ron Marenger Big Band. David's greatest love in life was being with his family at the lake.
