SPALTON, Donna Theresa (O'Neill) - Passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday December 29th, 2008, Donna Spalton (O'Neill) at the age of 84. Called to join her loving husband Philip, now together in God's care. Beloved mother of David (late Janice) and Paula Peterson (Ray) both of Welland. She will be fondly remembered by her brothers and sisters; Jack (Av), Ken (Helen), Walter (Lois), Laurie, Geraldine (Walter) Code. Mrs. Spalton was predeceased by her sister Edna (Henry) Pennarun. Donna will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Jennifer, Christopher, Sheila, Theresa , Peter, and also by her great-grandchildren Xavier and Zoey. Mrs. Spalton was an active member in the community, she was a member of the Catholic Women's League for many years, the bridge club and Kayettes. Donna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved being outdoors, gardening, and boating. She especially loved the sound of the loon. The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME 827 East Main Street Welland on Sunday January 4th from 2-4pm and 7- 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place on Monday January 5th at Saints Peter and Paul Church at 11am. LIVINGSTON, Nancy Elizabeth Nancy Elizabeth Livingston of Calgary passed away on December 31, 2008. Nancy was born in Winnipeg on October 27, 1932 and spent the greater part of her life in this city. She spent most of her working life in several Winnipeg companies as a Human Resources Professional. She was also a volunteer for Big Sisters, YWCA and Planned Parenthood. Nancy treated all persons that she met with kindness and seemed to live by the motto; "Let no one regret that they have met you". Nancy and her husband Alex, aka Sandy, moved to Calgary in 1996 and enjoyed hiking and walking in the mountains. She also enjoyed her aquacize classes at Killarney Pool, reading, knitting and traveling. Nancy's travels included both early family camping trips to Rushing River, Ont., the Rockies and one memorable adventure to the Maritimes that included a station wagon, tent trailer, four kids and a dog. Her more recent and relaxing trips alone with Alex included trips to the UK, Europe, Caribbean, South Pacific. Nancy is survived by her husband Alex, her children, David, Colin (Diane), Kathryn (Brent), Malcolm, and her grandchildren Andrew, Emily and Heather. She is also survived by her sister Ruth (Jerry) of Vancouver Island and sister-in-law Nan (Sam) of Leeds, England. Thanks to the many health care professionals and volunteers who took care of Mom and allowed her to live out her final days with love and dignity. In particular the staff and volunteers at Sarcee Hospice in Calgary. Special thanks to our Dad who was cook, nurse, and patient caregiver during Mom's last few years. It has revealed a side of him that most of us did not realize existed. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow' ". Mrs. Catherine Ann Munn, wife of Melvin Munn of 664 Oldfield Road, Miramichi, passed away Monday morning at her late residence, at the age of 68. Born in Renous, NB, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Jennie (Keenan) Hogan. She was a member of the Birthright Association, RCIA- All Saints Parish, St Samuel's Parish, St Mary's Parish, And Regional RCIA. Baptism preparation for St Samuel's Parish and All Saints Parish, on the board of Directors for Mount St Joseph. She started her career at Hotel Dieu Hospital- Operating Room, taught at School of Nursing until it closed, Patient Education Miramichi Hospital, RNA Program Miramichi Hospital, worked part-time with Public Health, VON and Mental Health. She was the Manager of Extra Mural Hospital until her retirement in 2001. Besides her husband Melvin, she is survived by two daughters, Wendy Cook (Steven) of Redmondville, Cynthia Marie Munn at home; one sister, Mary McNeil (Junior) of Renous; one granddaughter, Stephanie Cook; three nephews, Kemmy McNeil (Kim), Donnie McNeil (Patricia) and Jason McNeil (Carla); great nieces and nephews, Amanda, Arielle, Michael, Matthew and Kyden McNeil. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three sons, Tommy, Sonny and Jamie. Mrs. Catherine Ann Munn rested at Davidson's Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, Miramichi, with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday December 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. from St Michael's Basilica, with Father John Fraser officiating. Other clergy in the sanctuary were Father Sam Diotte, Father John Grattan and Monsignor Joseph Woods. Organist Norma Sugden led the church choir in "Like a Shepherd", "May Your Love Be Upon Us", "Shelter Me O Lord", "Peace Is Flowing", "Be Not Afraid", "Here I Am Lord". Readings were by Mary Alma Harrigan and Bobby Cross. Intercessions were by Cheryl Harris. Words of Remembrance were by Rose Spray. An honor guard was formed by The Marion All Saints Altar Society, St Michael's CWL and the Retired Nurses. Burial will be in St Bridget's R C Cemetery later in the spring. At the request of the family donations to NB Extra Mural, ALS Society or a memorial of ones choice would be appreciated. 1926-2008 George Johnston of Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed away on December 21st, 2008 at the age of 82 years. George was born in Cobalt, Ontario and raised in Northern Ontario. George served in the Canadian army as a clerk during WWII. After release from the army he pursued a career in the mining industry. During his fifty years of mining he worked in Port Radium, NWT, Eastern Townships, QC, Northern Ontario and New Brunswick with a consulting job in Helsinki, Finland. George was active in the Anglican Church, Legion and Toastmasters. George also pursued a lot of hobbies such as woodworking, camping, traveling, gardening and in later years raising chickens. George was very personable from hosting Canada Day celebrations on Heath Court to participating in the annual Chicken Run in Beaverbrook. George loved to debate the issues and was also well known for his quick wit and one-liners "now don't get me started on that!" George is lovingly remembered by a son, three daughters and a son in-law, Mark Johnston, Sharon Johnston, Lynn MacLean and Alberta and Joe MacAulay. As well he also leaves behind ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. George is also survived by his sister, Katherine Byerly; sisters-in-law, Joyce Johnston and Bessie Mills and a brother-in-law, Steven Coles. George was pre-deceased by his wife of forty seven years, Velvia Mae nee Mills; his three brothers and one niece. A private celebration of George's Life will be held at a later date. Mark Daniel "Beau" Beauchamp 1947 - 2008It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark "Beau" Beauchampon Sunday, December 28 2008. Mark is survived by his love and soulmate Marie-France Angers, his twin sister Kathy, his sister Sharon (Wally Peacock) and predeceased by his parents Jessie and Dan and his sister Melanie (RogerBastien). Mark will be missed by many nieces and nephews.Mark was born and raised in Rouyn-Noranda and moved to Montreal after highschool to establish his professional career. He worked at Harbour Industries Ltd Farnham, Quebec for 30 years and retired in April 2008. FUNK, Greg September 22, 1955 - December 31, 2008 Greg lost his eight year battle with cancer at the age of 53. He maintained a positive attitude to the very end. He had an unshakable faith in God, love for family and friends and a very strong will to live. Giving up was never an option. Greg was born and raised in Calgary and always wanted to be a policeman. He joined the RCMP at nineteen and thirty-four years later reached the rank of Inspector. He took great pride in that accomplishment. The RCMP was his extended family. He met many people during our Northern postings, both members and civilians, forming life-long friendships. Greg was outgoing, friendly, compassionate, a great listener and truly cared about people. He was the life and soul of the party with his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. He had great respect for and took pride in the Force and its members. Being a policeman was not just what he did it was part of who he was. His greatest joy was family, especially his daughters: Caitlin and Christina. They were his greatest gifts. He was incredibly proud of each milestone in their lives. His wife Calli was his soulmate and best friend. Next to family the love of his life was fishing and he did it with a passion. A fishing rod and chair next to the river and a cold beer. Greg's idea of heaven! He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife, Calli and daughters, Caitlin and Christina. He is survived by his loving parents: Henry and Marie, who meant the world to him; sisters: Gwen (Daryl), Darla (Gerry); brother of heart: Rob Stutt also mother-in-law: Shirley; brother-in-law: Larry (Trish); sister-in-law: Jill (Glen); nephews: Blaine, Ryan (Tiziana), Jordan; nieces: Kendra and Karlee and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A special thank you to all the staff and volunteers at Hospice House. You are an amazing group of people and made us all feel so welcome and cared for. HOGG, Albert James (Jim) September 10, 1932 - December 31, 2008 James Hogg, beloved husband of Isabella of Calgary, passed away on December 31, 2008 at the age of 76 years. Jim was born in Craigmyle, AB to Albert and Isabelle Hogg (nee Marnoch). He was raised in the Endiang district and educated there and in Castor. In 1948 Jim moved to Calgary where he was employed by the Alberta Livestock Cooperative for twenty-eight years after which he went on his own, order buying cattle for producers. Jim is survived by Isabella Rose and extended family; sister Margaret Groat; nephews David (Yvonne) and Gary Groat; great-nephews, Mathew and Alastir Groat; great-niece Chantel Groat; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Isabelle; brother-in-law Bob Groat; and nephew Douglas Groat. Sandor was born June 24, 1931 in Etes, Province of Nograd, Hungary. He immigrated to Canada on April 5, 1951. TOMPKINS, Lorna Joan (nee Ott) September 26, 1940 - December 27, 2008 Lorna Joan Tompkins, beloved wife of Larry Tompkins of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the age of 68 years. Besides her loving husband and companion of fifty years, Lorna is survived by two brothers, Jerry and Lloyd; and her sister, Susan, and their families. She also leaves behind many friends but especially Katie MacLean (five years) and Adam Buote (eleven years), both whom Lorna cherished from birth. Lorna was predeceased by her son, Lyle James (twenty-four days old) and her daughter, Lorrie Lynn (eighteen years old). OBITUARY MARIO FRARE 1933 - 2009 Mario Frare passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Enza, devoted father of Johnny (JoAnne), Trudi (Carlo) and Michael (Claudia) and cherished grandfather of Stefanie, Catia, Tristan, Kaia and Gioia. He will be deeply missed by numerous friends and family, and leaves behind much laughter, joy and fond memories of his incredible "joie de vivre". KAUFFELDT, Ethel ( Neuman/Weber) - Resident of Country Meadows, Brunner, passed away at Stratford General Hospital on December 29, 2008. Loving mother of Garry (Rosemary) Neuman of Waterloo, Raymond (Marlene) Neuman of Rochester Hills, MI. Sadly missed by her 6 grandchildren and her 8 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husbands Fred Neuman (1973) and Norman Kauffeldt (1993), her daughter Carolyn Snell & her husband Ronald Snell and sister Myrtle Junop. Born in Saskatchewan in 1917 where she and her sister survived the plague of 1918 that took both her parents ( Harry and Minnie Weber) and then was raised by her grandparents in Letterkenny, Ontario. After living in Pembroke for nearly 60 years, she moved to Waterloo. Always faithful to her church, Zion Evangelical United in Pembroke and Zion United in Kitchener. A celebration of Ethel's life will be held at Zion United Church, 32 Weber St., Kitchener on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.. Spring interment in Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Pembroke. ANASTASIOU, Clara (Claire) Edna (nee Hannah) December 11, 1930 - December 31, 2008 Claire, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 after a long and debilitating illness. She is survived by her loving husband Ernest, her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra (Brian) McLachlan and Victoria (John) Tapics and her grandchildren Kristy and Brady McLachlan and Tanya and Kyle Tapics. Claire is also survived by her sister Dorothy Tuplin in Moose Jaw, SK and her sister Leone Langner in Ottawa, ON. Claire was born to a large farming family in Tuxford, SK on December 11, 1930 and was the second youngest of nine children. In 1950 Claire enrolled in the School of Nursing at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, graduating in 1952 as a Registered Nurse. It was while she was training here that she met Ernest whom she married in 1955. Claire worked as an operating room nurse in Prince George, Victoria and Saskatoon and then retired to raise her daughters. She was away from nursing until the girls were in school and then worked several years in a medical office. At this time she became interested in new work skills and took several computer and accounting courses. This led to a job as an accounts payable supervisor at Voyager Energy until her retirement in 1992. Above all, Claire was a wonderful wife and mother and enjoyed the love and affection of all her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.
