LESTER, Margaret (nee Brandon) - Died peacefully at North Lambton Lodge on Tuesday December 30th, 2008 aged 92 years. Dearest Mother of Mary Overton (David) of Camlachie, Ron Lester of Cambridge and Bob Lester (Mary) of London and loving sister of Marion Johnson of Forest. Predeceased by husband Gordon (1991), son Jack (1993), brothers Bill, Tom, John, Jim, Stewart, Alex and Oliver and sisters Allison and Amelia. She will be missed and fondly remembered by 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. MORLEY, Shirley Theresa (Crump) - June 22, 1937 - December 31, 2008 After a courageous battle with cancer, Shirley passed away peacefully on December 31, 2008 surrounded by her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend Fred Morley, her daughter Cristil Pellizzari, her daughter-in-law Carol Pellizzari and her grandchildren Becky, Nick and his girlfriend Olivia and Christopher Pellizzari. Her step-children Cregg and Deanna and their families, her sisters Congetta and Anita and many, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Sid Crump (1988) and her son John Pellizzari (1995) and several brothers and sisters. She will also be sadly missed by her Branch 62 family where she was an active member for 21 years. Thank you to the doctors and nursing staff of Palliative Care of Bluewater Health. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held from the Chapel of the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, January 3rd at 12:00 pm. with Ven. Dr. Gordon J.J. Simmons officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday afternoon and evening from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm. PERREAULT, Arthur (1925 2008) - C'est avec profond regret que la famille Perreault annonce le décès d'un père adoré et d'un époux dévoué, à l'Hpital Général du Nipissing Ouest le lundi 29 décembre 2008 à l'âge de 83 ans. Fils de feu Joseph et de feu Albanie (née Lafrenière) Perreault. Époux depuis 61 ans d'Yvette Perreault (née Arbour) de Sturgeon Falls. Père de Lise Pilon (Jean-Pierre) de Lavigne, Jean (Suzanne) d'Ottawa, Diane Nadeau (Jacques) d'Orléans, Colette Riess (Ed) de Noelville, Jacques (Nikole) de Whitby et Michelle Perreault (Joseph Lauzon) de Gatineau. Lui survit également un frère Dollard (Lilliane de Montréal). Prédécédé par son frère Gérard (Thérèse de Sturgeon Falls). Son souvenir restera gravé dans la mémoire de ses 14 petits-enfants et de ses 11 arrière petits-enfants. Arthur et son épouse ont exploité une ferme laitière à Lavigne pendant plusieurs années et furent propriétaire du camp de touriste Au Lys Blanc à Lavigne. Par la suite, Arthur fut gérant de la place Richelieu à North Bay. Toujours actif dans sa communauté, il a participé à plusieurs comités dans des domaines aussi diversifiés que la paroisse, la Caisse Populaire, La Coopérative Sudbury Nipissing et l'association des producteurs laitiers. La famille recevra parents et amis au SALON FUNÉRAIRE THEORET BOURGEOIS, 2 rue Racette, Verner le vendredi 2 janvier 2009 de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h. McLAUGHLIN John - Resting peacefully now with our lord in Heaven, John passed away quietly in his 88th year at London Veterans Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 29th 2008. John is predeceased by his wife Olive (2002) and two of his children Clive and Christine as a result of a car accident in 1960. John is survived by his son Ed McLaughlin and wife Darlene of Brantford, and daughters Maureen McLaughlin and Kathleen Vincek. Also, survived by his grandchildren Justin and Rachael McLaughlin and April Romano. John was born in Glasgow, Scotland on July 29th 1921. John was an electrician in the Royal Air Force of England and he served in London, Italy and Africa with his squadron. Moving to Canada after the war he married Olive Popps, they travelled to Canada on the Queen Mary and established themselves in Toronto for a short period of time, relocating shortly after to Newmarket, Ontario. John worked at the Ford motor company in Oakville for a period of time and then returned to the electrical field and joined Local 105 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and worked as a Journeyman for 35 years. John resided in Brantford, Ontario after moving here in 1976 with his family. John was a well known Ham Amateur Radio operator around the world with his call sign of VE3-FED. John will now join his wife Olive (2001) and Clive and Christine (1960). ALTRIDGE, Violet Anne - Passed peacefully in Vancouver on December 29, 2008 following a sudden illness which she faced with her typical courage, dignity and determination. She was born on a farm near Kitchener, Ontario in 1915, and grew up in a large family, the Petch clan. She is survived by her youngest sister, Eva (Hamilton), but was predeceased by her siblings Clare, Lorne, Alda, Elva and Pearl. She was happily married for over 60 years to her husband George, who predeceased her in 2006. For most of her life she lived in Niagara Falls, Ontario where she worked as a secretary, and enjoyed a variety of social activities including dancing and her passion, duplicate bridge. She was very proud of her home, and worked hard to create a warm and comforting sanctuary for her family as well as a place to entertain her friends. In 2004 she and George moved to Vancouver due to declining health. Vi continued to be as active as possible and maintained her life long attitude of “go, go, go“ which was an inspiration to those who knew her. She had the great gift of remaining young her entire life, and her joy and spirit will be missed by many including her sons Peter (Linda) and John (Patti), and her granddaughter, Kate. ROWLAND, George Frederick (Jeff) - 83, passed away on December 30, 2008. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie on March 9, 1925 and resided both in the Soo and in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Doreen, and his daughter, Penny, of Tucson. He is also survived by his grandchildren: David of Tucson, Arizona; Tricia Murphy and Theresa Gathing of Blanco, New Mexico; Stefani Walsh of Toronto, and Brooke Walsh of Montreal. He is predeceased by his daughter, Pat Walsh of Scottsdale, Arizona, and his parents, Harry Frederick Rowland and Orris Pratt Rowland of Sault Ste. Marie. Jeff was very active in the Canadian Red Cross and enjoyed his work with the Searchmont Ski Patrol. He loved people and the outdoors and spent many happy hours with his “hunt-club“ buddies sharing old memories and creating new ones. DAWSON, Elsie May - Died suddenly on December 29, 2008 at St. Catharines General Hospital. A gentle soul, a long life well-lived. Elsie was in her 92nd year and enjoyed good health until recently. Born Elsie England on June 2, 1917 in Beeston, Nottingham, England, she was adopted by her Aunt Annie Ward at the age of four. Although she immigrated to Canada in 1951, Elsie was loyal to England and often recalled many good memories she had as a child. Elsie was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Niagara-on-the-Lake and loved the Lord and never doubted that He loved her. In her lifetime, Elsie enjoyed ballroom dancing and her all-time favourite partner was her late husband, Dennis Dawson (Feb. 1987). Elsie enjoyed her past association with the North End Seniors and Niagara-on-the-Lake line dancing groups. She leaves friends young and old alike who will miss her sense of humour and lovely smile. Left with good memories are Elsie's daughter, Deborah, and husband David Eke of Niagara-on-the-Lake; her grandson Darren Eke, wife Carmen and great-granddaughter Rosemarie Deborah of Ottawa; and her granddaughter Sarah Pillitteri and husband Michael Pillitteri of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Mrs. Christine Elizabeth Hepper October 3, 1912 - December 24, 2008 Hepper, Christine Elizabeth (Letcher), 96, of Amherst passed away on Wednesday, December 24th, 2008 at Gables Lodge in Amherst, NS. Born in Springhill, NS, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Carolyn Jean (Mattinson) Letcher. Christine was a graduate of Amherst Regional High School. Following her graduation she attended Teacher’s College in Truro, NS where she received her teaching diploma. During the war years, she worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Amherst. She spent several years teaching in various Nova Scotia schools. Following her marriage to her husband, Emil, in 1962 Christine moved to Marysville, British Columbia, where she resided for 25 years; returning to Nova Scotia after Emil’s passing. Being an avid gardener, she took great joy in watching things grow. Fishing was one of her great loves, catching many large trout and salmon in the BC waters. Her many interests included: knitting, Needle Point, Stamp Collecting, Photography, Music and Crafts. Christine thoroughly enjoyed traveling, visiting many parts of Canada as well as other parts of the world. Her lodges, Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters, Rebekahs, and Nomads meant a great deal to her and she remained very active in them until the last couple of years; holding various offices in all. Christine was a valued member of the “Travelers” music group for 20 years, brining joy to the many residents in the nursing homes that the group visited. She will be sadly missed by all and fondly remembered by her loving sister, Patricia Parker of Amherst; special nieces (whom she considered “just like daughters”), Carolyn (Larry) McCormick of Springhill, NS and Melissa (John) MacDonald of Amherst; as well as several great and great, great nieces and nephews. Christine was predeceased by her husband, Emil; sister, Dorothy in infancy and brother in law, Douglas Parker. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Saturday, December 27, 2008 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, (667-9906) with Rev. Mr. Clayborne 'Clay' Harold Cummins February 4, 1918 - December 24, 2008 CUMMINS, Clayborne Harold February 4, 1918 – December 24, 2008 Clay passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on December 24, 2008 at the age of 90 years. He was born on the family farm in the rural community of Wild Rose, Sask. Clay attended Crystal Plains School, then left in his early teens to find work during the Great Depression. During WWII, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Aero Engine Mechanic with Bomber Squadron #419 (Moose Squadron) in England. Through his military service, he developed lifelong friendships and enjoyed many reunions over the years with his comrades and their families. He also maintained a keen interest in the WWII airplanes he had worked on during the war, particularly the Lancaster. After the war, Clay obtained his refrigeration engineering papers and put his mechanical expertise to use in jobs at the Prince Albert Brewery, refrigeration plants at Reindeer Lake and La Ronge, and for 25 years in the boiler room at the Prince Albert Penitentiary. In 1956, Clay married Dolly MacKay. They raised two daughters, Cathie and Chris, on their farm at Spruce Home, and were active in many community events and activities. Clay and Dolly retired to Prince Albert in 1983. They enjoyed traveling and were extensively involved in volunteer work until Dolly’s passing in 1992. During Dolly’s first struggle with cancer in the early 1970’s, Clay and Dolly developed a close friendship with Ruby Seaman and she became like one of the family. After Clay moved to Saskatoon in 1993, he and Ruby spent many happy times at Pike Lake, and socializing at the Park Heights Community Centre, enjoying snooker, shuffleboard and cards. In later years, Clay’s sight deteriorated and he moved to the Franklin Retirement home where he was shown great kindness and care by the wonderful staff. Clay enjoyed a special 90th birthday celebration at the Franklin in February, 2008 with many family and friends. Although his health had declined in recent months, he was also able to enjoy an early Christmas celebration with his family on the weekend before his admission to the hospital. Predeceased by his beloved wife Dolly, parents Jackson and Mabel, brothers Norman and Ralph, sisters Frances Hodges, Eva Mein and Pearl Loth. Clay is survived by daughters: Cathie (Doug) Atkins, Chris (Greg) Altwasser; grandchildren David Bernier (fiancée Terri Glover), Drew and Cheralyn Atkins; dear friend Ruby Seaman; brother Orval Cummins; sister Ruby Breitkreitz; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is fondly remembered by family, friends and acquaintances across the country. Clay was a good man and a true gentleman—thoughtful, kind and generous. The family wishes to thank the RUH Emergency and Unit 6200 nurses, doctors and staff, Dr. McMahon, the Franklin staff and Home Care staff. A Funeral Service will be held at the Park Funeral Chapel, 311 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 2:00 pm. PAUL, Brian Charles Sadly and unexpectedly on Monday, December 29, 2008, in his 57th year. Brian Charles Paul, beloved husband and best friend of Peggy Paul (nee Stepaniak). Dear father of Beckie (Josh Bilton) of Lombardy, and Sean ( Jennine Travers) of Waterloo. Brian was the dearly loved son of Charles Paul and the late Shirley Paul (nee Neave) of St. Thomas. He will be fondly and forever remembered by his siblings Shelley (Jeff) Groves, of London, Ontario, Kerry (Denise) Paul of Windsor, and Stephen (Cindy) Paul of St. Thomas. A good man, Brian lived for his family and their well being. He was a wonderful husband and best friend for Peggy, a caring and loving Dad for Beckie and Sean, loving brother, son, and brother-in-law. Loving uncle to Ryan, Jessica, Justine, and Julianne Paul. Sadly missed by his sister-in-law Chris (Bill Pressey), his brother-in-law Bob (Karen) Stepaniak, and their children; Greg (Tanya) Stepaniak, Steven Stepaniak, and Heather Stepaniak. Brian will be profoundly missed by all of his extended family and his family at 3M. Brian passed away playing his favourite sport, getting together with the guys at 3M to play a few periods. Along with his wife, Brian was the proprietor of Tay Crossing, in Perth. Brian's visitation took place on Thursday, January 1, 2009 from 2 p.m. until 4 pm and from 7 pm until 9 pm.
