McDOUGALL, William Paul “Bill“ - After a lengthy courageous battle with MS, passed away at the St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre. Bill was in his 77th year. Loving husband of Blanche, for over 57 years. FENTON, Isobel Ethel November 6, 1916 - December 11, 2008 Isobel Ethel Elizabeth Fenton (nee Allan) of Bottrel, AB, passed away at the Didsbury Long-term Care Facility on December 11, 2008 at the age of 92 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Elmer in 1996 after sixty-two years of marriage, her father in 1936, her mother in 1953, her brother Alvy in 1977 and seventeen brothers and sisters-in-law. Isobel will be forever loved and missed by her family: sons, Buster, Jim (Joanne), John (Joanne), Alan (Debbie); daughters, Janette (Dave) Whittle, Donna (Gary) Smith, Marlene (Bob) Phillips; nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Louella Beadle. Isobel was the daughter of Alberta and Malcolm Allan, pioneers of the Bottrel District. Isobel attended Old Westbrook School and took high school in Cochrane. In 1934 she married Elmer Fenton and they settled near her parents homestead in the Bottrel area. Isobel was a woman to whom family meant everything. She had boundless energy and worked beside Elmer to raise their family and run the farm. Her cooking and baking skills were only surpassed by the enjoyment they brought to those lucky enough to sit down at her table. Isobel was a homemaker in the truest sense. The family expresses its sincere appreciation to the staff of Cochrane Big Hill Lodge and the Didsbury Long-term Care Unit 4, for the excellent care given to our mother in the past three years. AVIS DE DÉCÈS LUCIENNE DUGAS est décédée le 15 décembre 2008, à Ottawa. Elle avait 89 ans. Née le 8 mai à Rivière-du-Loup, au Québec, Lucienne a enseigné plusieurs années à la petite école du rang où étaient réunis en une salle les enfants de la 1ère à la 7e année. Elle est ensuite allée à Québec poursuivre la formation qui lui tenait à coeur, comme infirmière, à l'hôpital St-Sacrement. Diplômée de Laval, elle s'est dirigée à Montréal pour faire carrière à l'hôpital de Verdun. Un voyage fortuit en Abitibi, où elle avait passé l'été de 1950, dans un programme de vaccination des autochtones, lui a fait rencontrer feu Louis Dugas, avec qui elle a vécu 56 ans. Mariée en 1951, elle a mis de côté son métier pour donner préséance à sa famille. Une fois ses 4 enfants devenus adolescents, elle a repris le métier à la pouponnière de l'hôpital Montfort. Au fil des ans, son doigté délicat et précis, tant pour les travaux à l'aiguille que pour les êtres humains, ses talents culinaires, sa douceur, sa gentillesse, ont conquis bien des coeurs. Ses enfants: Louise (Ian), Danielle (Ira), Louis, et Luc (Carolyn); ses petits-enfants: Simon, Claudine, Bruno, Jacqueline et Miriam; ses soeurs: Antoinette, Thérèse, Simone, et son frère Léo sont unis dans leur amour pour Lucienne. La famille accueille parents et amis mardi le 16 décembre 2008, de 19h à 21h, à la chapelle du Centre de Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, au 315 McLeod, à Ottawa. La famille sera aussi présente à compter de 12h30 le mercredi 17 décembre, à l'église Ste-Geneviève, au 825 ave Canterbury, pour recevoir les condoléances. La célébration eucharistique aura lieu à 13h et l'inhumation suivra immédiatement au cimetière de l'Espoir, 4660 rue Bank, après quoi tous sont conviés à un goûter dans le bâtiment administratif du cimetière. Born on May 8th, 1919 in Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, Lucienne taught during 7 years in the country school near her home, where she managed in one room children from grades 1 to 7. Eventually, she saved enough to pursue her dream, and trained at l'Hopital St-Sacrement, in Quebec city to become a nurse. A graduate of Laval University, she went to Montreal and became a nurse manager at l'Hopital de Verdun. A fortuitous commitment to a native immunization program in Abitibi allowed her to meet the late Louis Dugas, whom she married in 1951, and loved for 56 years. Career ceded priority to family and children, but eventually Lucienne returned to nursing at l'Hopital Montfort, where her skills were much appreciated in the nursery. Over the years, Lucienne's warmth and kindness, her gentle ways, her culinary talents and her wonderful dexterity at needlework won hearts. Her children Louise (Ian), and Danielle (Ira), Louis, and Luc (Carolyn), her grandchildren Simon, Claudine, Bruno, Jacqueline, Miriam, her remaining siblings Antoinette, Therese, Simone, and Leo will cherish her memory. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St, Ottawa, Tuesday, December 16th, from 7 to 9 pm and at Ste-Genevieve Church, 825 Canterbury Ave. from 12:30 pm until time of Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 17th. MacKINNON, Thelma Daye - Peacefully at home after a short and dignified battle with cancer on Sunday, December 14, 2008. She was born October 18, 1942 at Jordon Station and was the wife and best friend of Matthew Angus MacKinnon. Daughter of the late Roy and Thora Smith. Sister of George (Marie) Smith, Murray (Kathy) Smith, Thora (Floyd) MacDonald and Mary (Jim) Fullerton. Sister in law of John Kump (predeceased by sister Betty Kump). She was the loving aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Among those she loved, her smile has faded but the glow and warmth that was Thelma remains with all who knew her. Special thanks to St. Elizabeth Nurses and Dr. Denise Marshall for their comfort and care as well as the staff at Henderson Hospital in Hamilton and the Emergency Room Staff at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby where she was always in good hands. Thelma was the operator of Home and Hearth Bed and Breakfast for 15 years. Cremation has taken place. PRICE, Janet Hendry (née Yates) - Surrounded by her loving family, Janet passed away peacefully, at age 87, on December 13, 2008. Predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Stanley, Janet is survived by children Donald, Sheila, Marion, and grandchildren Jordan, Rachel, Connor and Geordie. Janet was a proud Glaswegian (Glasgow, Scotland). She was a member of the WRNS during World War II and met Stan at one of the famous war-time dances on 4/4/44. She came to Canada in 1946 and was married in Sault Ste. Marie in 1947. Over the years in Niagara Falls, Saint John and Fredericton, Janet was active in the Presbyterian Church and the St. Andrews Society. Her work as a volunteer in the Literacy Council in New Brunswick and the Family and Children's Services in Ontario was highly commended. Janet loved playing bridge, working in the garden, baking, sewing, knitting, hosting dinner parties, travelling with Stan and writing short stories (once published in the Reader's Digest). She believed in life-long learning, taking French and Russian languages and writing courses in her spare time. Janet lived life to the fullest, was an eternal optimist with a delightful sense of humour, was caring of others and was loved by all who knew her. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 2 pm, Erindale Presbyterian Church, 1560 Dundas Street West, Mississauga, east of Erin Mills Parkway. MCLEOD, Ross Ian - 75, passed away on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008, at Providence Healthcare Centre, Toronto, after a courageous year long battle with cancer. Born in Toronto he was the son of the late Percy and Florence McLeod. He spent many years in the insurance industry in Toronto but for the past 20 years lived in the Lindsay area where he stayed until his illness made it necessary for him to move. Ross was never shy about helping neighbours and friends in any way he could. He became involved in his community as a member of the Moose Lodge and various card groups and always had a kind word and a joke to share with the many friends he made during his life. Ross was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dolores. Also predeceased by his second wife, Doreen and “best buddy“ and brother-in-law Bill Robinson. Ross leaves behind his daughter Susan (Terry) Morrison; his grandchildren Derek, Blaise, Monica, Austin and Connor; his twin sister and best friend Joan Robinson, who was at his side every day until the end; and sister Eleanor Mercer. He will also be missed by his niece Sharon Mercer and nephews Bill and Brian Mercer with whom he spent many good times and lots of laughter. Funeral Services and interment were held in Toronto. MORELL, George Wendell - George W. Morell Capt. (Retired), passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on November 25, 2008 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, at the age of 83 years. He was predeceased by his mother Grace (Jones) Morell, his father Frederick Clifford Morell, his brothers Fred and Horace and his son George of Winnipeg. He is survived by his wife Margaret Ethel (Wilson), his son Douglas, his grandchildren Sarah Dundass (Kevin) and Jason (Laura), his great grandsons Miles and Riley Morell and his sister Lois Martin of Miramichi, N.B. George was born in Newcastle New Brunswick in 1925. He joined the RCAF in 1943, commenced Flying Training in January of 1944 at Pendleton and Hagersville ON and earned his Wings in November of that same year. George was honourably released from active service in January of 1946 and worked for New Brunswick Hydro before re- joining RCAF Regular Service in May of 1954. Through postings at Trenton, Penhold (#4 FTS), Gimli , Saskatoon and Cold Lake he earned an A1 Instructors rating. In January of 1958 he was assigned to 433 (AW) F Squadron in North Bay ON and in August of 1961 transferred to No. 1 Air Division Headquarters, Metz France. He was again stationed at North Bay (131 KU) in August of 1965 and retired from service in August 1970. After leaving the Air Force, he worked for the North Bay Police Department until his retirement in February 1985. In 2001, George and Ethel moved to Winnipeg. At George's request, there was no visitation and no service. Cremation has taken place and he will be buried in New Brunswick at a later date. 11357519

WENTJARV, Jan Peter Jan Peter Wentjarv of Calgary passed away suddenly while on vacation in Varadero, Cuba on December 9, 2008 at the age of 56. Jan was born in Vaasa, Finland on November 6, 1952, the only child of Sirpa and Sven-Ake Wentjarv. Jan served in the Finnish navy during his military service. He later came to Canada in the spring of 1974 to join his mother (Sirpa Gilbert) who had moved here several years earlier and re-married. Jan worked for the City of Calgary Electric System (Enmax) for thirty years and retired this past April, 2008. Jan lived life to the fullest. His love of sports and cheerful personality brought much interest into life around him. His straightforward, no nonsense, practical approach to life along with his fun sense of humour, and ready laugh, were greatly appreciated and valued by his family and his wide circle of friends. Jan is survived by his son Jamie Christopher, his father Sven-Ake and stepmother Elma, his stepsister Maarit (and her family), his stepbrother Miika (and his family), as well as several other aunts, uncles, and cousins who reside in Vancouver, Finland and Sweden. Jan's son Jamie is respecting the wishes of his father to hold no Funeral Service for him. Jan would prefer that those who remember him raise a glass in memory instead. Francis was born on November 10, 1927 in Surry, England. He served with the Royal Navy for twenty-two years. In 1969 Francis and Agnes immigrated to Canada, settling in Calgary. Francis worked twenty-five years for Sears Canada as a Service Technician retiring in 1994. In 1979 their family moved to Airdrie and in 1998 Francis and Agnes retired in Didsbury. Francis is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Rhod and Cindy, and Ken and Wendy; grandson Justin; and sister Grace Appleyard. GRAVES, Edith "Grace" (nee Lough) January 23, 1923 - December 14, 2008 Edith "Grace" Graves passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Grace was born in Regina, SK on January 23, 1923. From the moment she arrived in Calgary in 1947 Grace loved the city and all it had to offer. In June 1950 she married George Thomas Graves in Banff, AB. She and George enjoyed forty-seven wonderful years of marriage and family life together. In their retirement they looked forward to their annual trek to the California desert to spend time with their "snowbird friends". Throughout her life she enjoyed the volunteering and the social interaction of the Kinnettes and K40's as well as her association for over twenty-five years with the Samaritan Club and Holy Cross Hospital Auxiliary. She made many close friends through curling, bowling and her exercise classes at the Glencoe Club. But Grace's greatest pleasure was in raising her two daughters and being "grandma" to her grandchildren. They will miss her shortbreads at Christmas and coins in their angel food birthday cakes. For the past two years, Grace has enjoyed the care and the companionship of the residents and staff at Staywell Manor. Grace is survived by her loving daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jeff McCaig and Diane Graves; her grandchildren, Robb, Scott and Christy McCaig; her sister-in-law Jean Peach (Graves); as well as many nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her husband George in 1999, parents Alvin and Emma (Ferguson) Lough, and her brother Alvin F. Lough of Regina. LOWE, Greta Jane (nee Hutchinson). 1927-2008. Passed away peacefully with family at her side in the early morning of Saturday, December 13, 2008. In 1946, our brave young nineteen year old English war bride left family and friends behind in Potton, Bedfordshire, crossing the ocean on the Lady Nelson to join her husband in Canada. OBITUARY ELIZABETH (LISA) HAZANOFF It is with sadness that the family of Lisa Hazanoff announce her passing on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with her loving family by her side. Left to mourn Lisa's loss are her parents Victor and Anne-Marie Hazanoff; brother Michael (Diane) Hazanoff, all of Red Deer, AB as well as Lisa's aunt Galina McLaws of Bloomington, IN. Lisa was predeceased by her grandparents, Alexander and Nina Hazanoff, Edvard and Gudrun Schjelle. Lisa was born September 12, 1957 and raised in Montreal, Quebec, with summers spent at Lac Chevreuil. After graduating, she left for Toronto to continue her career in advertising as well as to pursue her passion for alternative medicine; she became a licensed holistic practitioner. Last year Lisa moved to Red Deer to be with her family. Lisa loved life and lived it to the fullest. She found great joy in travelling and meeting people. We are grateful to those who have touched her life and helped her along her journey. After a forty day mourning period there will be a private Memorial Service held on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 with Father Timothy officiating. SISTER ALICE LECLAIR, CSJ (Sister Alice Marie) Sister Alice passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Pembroke Regional Hospital. She was in the 60th year of her religious life. She was born in Renfrew, a daughter of the late Mary (Shannon) and Henry (Harry) Leclair. Left to mourn her loss and celebrate her life among us are her Sisters in the Congregation, her brothers Emmett of Arnprior and Gerard of Ottawa, as well as her sister Lois (Levesque) of Petrolia, and her much loved nieces and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her brother Edward (Brother Timothy, fsc). After completing high school Sr. Alice began teaching and shortly thereafter joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph. During her many years of teaching, she also obtained her Elementary School Music Certificate, her B.A, her Principal's Certificate as well as a High School Assistant's Certificate. She taught in Pembroke at Our Lady of Lourdes School, and taught and assumed the role of Principal in schools in Calabogie, Chalk River, Whitney and Maynooth as well as Holy Name School in Pembroke. From 1993 to 1997 Sister was proud to take a position with the Canada Safety Council in Ottawa as co-ordinator of the Seniors' Program '55 Alive'. During her career, Sister came to Pembroke to serve her Congregation in a leadership capacity, including that of Assistant General Superior and Councillor. In the latter years she continued to be of service to her Congregation as a receptionist, which in turn gave her time to exercise her brain with puzzles, sudoku as well as reading and keeping well informed of the world events, with an emphasis on politics. She will be long remembered for her expert knowledge in grammar, her ability to converse in an informative and engaging manner and her genuine interest and caring nature. She was most grateful for her call to Religious Life and her unique relationship with God in the person of Jesus. Visitation at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, Pembroke on Tuesday, December 16th, starting at 3:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 17th at 10:30 a.m. at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse. FUGLESANG, Daniel Todd Walberg 2008-12-16 The family of Daniel Todd Walberg Fuglesang, born September 13, 1967, is deeply saddened by his unexpected passing on December 4, 2008, in Rome, Italy, where he had resided for the past four years. Daniel was a very thoughtful, caring person, who loved to spend time with family and friends He was a real people-person. His outgoing personality and sense of humour captivated the hearts of anyone who met him. Daniel especially enjoyed the times spent at his Nana and Buppa Walberg‘s cottage at Cloud Bay. He enjoyed flower gardening, and was proud of his accomplishments as a gardener. He loved to travel and to make travel plans for others. Some of the countries he visited were Denmark, England, Germany, Poland, France, Greece, Crete, Estonia, and Mexico. Daniel attended Sherbrooke and Riverdale Elementary Schools. Shortly after graduating from Fort William Collegiate Institute, he went to Sweden where he attended Holsby Brunn Bible School, which is affiliated with Torchbearers International. After being home for awhile, Daniel decided to further his studies in Sweden, where he connected with family and made many friends. In 1997, he became a Swedish citizen. His fluency in speaking and writing the Swedish language enabled him to translate for colleagues, family, and friends. At Uppsala University, Daniel received his B.A. Degree, and then his Masters Degree in Classical Archeology and Ancient History. He worked with the late King Gustav VI Adolf‘s excavation material at the Swedish Institute in Rome, Italy. Daniel was accepted into the Ph.D. program at Lund‘s University in Sweden. The manuscript for his doctoral dissertation concerns the late building phase at San Giovenale, north of Rome. He was working towards its completion at the time of his death. Several of Daniel‘s articles and scientific works on the Etruscan society have been published. He dedicated his professional career to the Etruscan site in San Giovenale, where he conducted his research and developed a true feeling for the Etruscan culture. Daniel was also working at Legends Hostel in Rome where his friendly travel advice was greatly appreciated by the hostel clients. His fluency in Italian, Swedish, and English was a great asset in assisting people from all over the world who stayed at the hostel. Daniel will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his partner Maximo Ortiz; his parents Diane ( Walberg ) and David Harri, Albert and Barbara Fugelsang; his brothers Jonathan ( Natalie ) and Mark ( Amber ); niece Natasha, nephew Nicholas; his uncles and aunts Ron and Margot, Weldon and Mary; his cousins David (Nick), Matthew, Michael; Wendy ( Don ), Leslie ( Pat ), Murray ( Loretta ), Anne ( Shane ), Cheryl ( Brian ) and their children; stepbrothers Derek ( Leslie ), Allan ( Angela ), Kyle ( Kelly ), and stepsister Stephanie. He is also mourned by relatives in Sweden. Daniel was predeceased by his grandparents Edith and Renus Walberg, Muriel and Axel Fugelsang, and cousin Violet Lindberg, a “special lady” to Daniel. A service of remembrance for Daniel Todd Walberg Fuglesang will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul‘s Anglican Church, jointly officiated by Rev. Don Gillett, pastor of Grace Evangelical Free Church, and Rev. Deborah Kraft, rector. A private interment will be held at a later date. ALLARD M. ROLLAND À la Résidence de Santé Les Grès, le 12 décembre 2008, est décédé à l'âge de 86 ans et 11 mois, M. Rolland Allard, époux de Jeanne D'Arc Descôteaux, demeurant à Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, autrefois de Saint-Élie-de-Caxton. La famille accueillera parents et ami(e)s au : Salon funéraire Julien Philibert et fils inc. 380, boul. Notre-Dame Charette Heures d'accueil : mercredi de 14 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 22 h, jeudi, jour des funérailles, à partir de 9 h. Les funérailles auront lieu le jeudi 18 décembre 2008 à 11 h en l'église Notre-Dame-des-Neiges de Charette. L'inhumation aura lieu au cimetière de Charette. L'a précédé, son petit-fils, Mathieu Lagotte. Le défunt laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Jeanne D'Arc Descôteaux; ses enfants : René (Denise Bellerive), Micheline, Francine (Yvan Flageol), Olivette (Jean-Pierre Turcotte), Marie (Jocelyn Lagotte), Jean et François; ses petits-enfants : Steve, Mélanie, Stéphane, Emmanuelle, Mikaëlle, Isabelle, Christian, Marie-Josée, Patrick, Dominic et Nancy; ses arrière-petits-enfants; ses soeurs, beaux-frères et belles-soeurs : Simone (feu Émilien Carignan), Soeur Gertrude Allard, Oblate de Béthanie, Soeur Jeanne D'Arc Allard, Soeur de l'Assomption de la Sainte Vierge, Denise Chouinard (feu Louis Allard), Cécile Guillemette (feu Jean-Marcel Descôteaux), Jeanne-Mance Descôteaux (feu Rémi Grenier), Helen Voge (feu Marc-Aurèle Descôteaux), Laurent Descôteaux (Éveline Durette), Pierrette Descôteaux (Paul Gervais); il laisse aussi plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et de nombreux ami(e)s. George William Arnott Posted 5 hours ago The family of George William Arnott sadly announce his passing on Monday, December 15, 2008 at his beloved cottage at Bruce Beach, in his 83rd year. George was born in Windsor, Ontario and was the son of the late Ira and Charlotte Arnott. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen Arnott (Game) and his sister, Margaret MacLean. Loving father and father-in-law of Elizabeth and Wayne “Boris” Harloff of Guelph, Catherine Arnott and Brian Jones of Ottawa, Tom and Heather Arnott of Hanover and Carol Arnott of Stratford. Dearly loved Papa of Laura Turner (Jack), Emily Harloff and Quinn Dyer. Sadly missed by his sister Joan Ryan and nephew John Ryan of Windsor and Birger and Hilda Ekblad of Kincardine, and many other loved nieces and nephews. George lived a long and wonderful life. He was one of the first graduates (BA 1951) of the Physical Education program at the University of Western Ontario. After an outstanding university football and basketball career with the Western Mustangs, he went on to play a year of professional football with the Toronto Argonauts. George happily settled into a 33-year career teaching and coaching at Windsor schools, mostly at Kennedy Collegiate Institute. He also found time to coach AKO junior football. He inspired many young athletes in football, track and field and basketball during these years. In 1983, George was inducted into the University of Western Ontario Sports Hall of Fame. He and Kathleen retired in 1985 and spent many happy years with family and friends at their cottage on Lake Huron. Donations to London Health Sciences Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements by Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover. Cremation has taken place. At George’s request there will be no service. A private family gathering will take place in the spring to honour the lives of George and Kathleen Arnott.
