OBITUARY ELEANOR MARIE ALGIE (LOWRY) Passed away peacefully at the LaSalle General Hospital, on October 24, in her 101st year. Beloved wife of the late James Malcolm (Mac) Algie, who predeceased her in 1975. The only child of Laura May (Sparling), and Robert William Lowry. Beloved mother of Robert Malcolm Algie and his wife Anne Jobin, of Ottawa, Ontario. Also mother to daughter Cathy Algie Campeau Belcourt and her husband David Belcourt of Beaconsfield, Quebec. Grandmother of Nicolas Campeau and his wife Quelen Farias, of Lisbon, Portugal, of Lisa Campeau Fenzel and her husband Lt. Colonel U.S. Army Michael Fenzel, of Carmel, California, of Christian Campeau and his wife Raquel Fernandes, of Lisbon, Portugal. Great-grandmother to Jessica Campeau, Marcus, Christopher and "baby girl" Fenzel, and Ruben and Gabriel Campeau. Eleanor will also be greatly missed by her many friends in Baie d'Urfe and Montreal, who have been very supportive through the years. Eleanor will also be missed by her cousins in Toronto, Brampton, and Calgary; and by The Baie d'Urfe Bahai Community, whose members have been so loyal and thoughtful. Many thanks to everyone for being such a good friend to Eleanor. Eleanor was a member of the Laurentian Lodge Club in Prevost, (Shawbridge); where she loved to pass each winter weekend, Cross Country Skiing. She so enjoyed the Members, and the Staff of the Club. Eleanor drove for Meals On Wheels, before she became blind with macular degeneration, at age 96. Eleanor also worked as a volunteer, at "Au Petit Cafe" with a team of waitresses; in the Cafe, to raise funds for the Victorian Order of Nurses. Eleanor had in the past been an active member of the University Women's Club; having graduated in 1930 from The University of Toronto with a degree in Household Science, with a career as a Dietitian. Eleanor's second career (from age in her 50's to 70's), was a Librarian, and Bookmobile Driver, for the McLennan Travelling Library, of McGill University. All the English population in outlying areas of Quebec benefitted from this service of this Library; and the books were greatly appreciated. First, thank you to Eleanor's neighbours and to her home live-in Caregivers, for all their thoughtfulness. Many thanks also to the Staff at The Sunrise Residence of Beaconsfield, for making Eleanor's stay there so cheerful in her new home, and for their wonderful care and kindness. Thanks also go to the Staff in the Emergency and on the First Floor at the LaSalle General Hospital, for all their gentle care. Eleanor's funeral will take place in the Chapel of Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., Dollard des Ormeaux, 514-685-3344, 1-800-657-5678 on Tuesday, October 28 at 2 p.m. Viewing hours: Monday, October 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment to follow later at the Brampton Cemetery, in Brampton, Ontario; to be laid to rest in The Lowry Family Plot. She will be dearly missed by her four boys; Paul (Sharon), Ken (Sue), Brent (Maureen), and Jim (Yvonne); grandchildren and great grandchildren; Derek, Robin (Wes), Jennifer, Carley, Laykin, Logan and Andrew. TAYLOR, Robert Lealand August 27, 1937 - October 22, 2008 Bob was born in Victoria, P.E.I. and moved to Alberta in 1950 with his family. He passed away peacefully at home October 22, 2008 after a long battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife Penny, son Derek (Brenna), daughters Karen and Marena; his beloved granddaughters Sadie and Laura; brothers Don, Bill (Lori), Ed (Donna), Marjorie Faulkner, nieces, nephews and life-long friends. Bob worked for the Bank of Montreal for seventeen years. After this he took his knowledge and experience to various banking related companies and became well established and respected in the industry. At age sixty Bob set out on his own venture of acquiring commercial real estate holdings while maintaining an active role as a broker. In a short time he built a strong and well run portfolio. Their Canmore home (Base Camp) was the place to stay for all of Bob and Penny's skiing and hiking friends. Bob was an avid member of the Millcreek runners and Nordic ski club. He enjoyed biking in Canmore and surrounding areas as well as his tours in Europe. The family would like to thank the palliative care unit for their special care. EASTMAN, Gladys Violet, R.N. (nee Foreacre) On October 24th, 2008, a beautiful, colourful Fall afternoon, with family, at Madonna Long Term Care Residence in her 88th year. Gladys Violet Foreacre Eastman, beloved wife of Bob Eastman (predeceased) and mother of Garth of Regina, Saskatchewan, Wendy (Hank) Johnson of Ottawa and Doug (Janet) Eastman of Burlington, and devoted grandmother of Tara Johnson-Oates (Jason), Erin Johnson-Ruscica (Joe) and Ben Eastman peacefully passed. Glady leaves a legacy of love with her family. Her passion for flowers and landscapes may be found in her many paintings, widely enjoyed by family and friends. Glady will be missed by long-time friends at Rothwell United Church and the Ottawa Art Association. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Luc Duchesne, and the staff of Queenswood Villa and Madonna Residence for their wonderful care and attention. At Glady's request, there will be no visitation. WALSH, Viola Merle (nee Murray) Was born July 23, 1919 in Gartley, Saskatchewan and died peacefully on October 25, 2008 at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener at the age of 89. Merle was best friend and wife of the late Joseph Francis Walsh (2005) for 51 years. She was mother of Murray and his wife Karen and Gary and his wife Cathy and grandmother of Samantha, Amelia and Corey. Merle is survived by her sisters, Ethyle, Jean and Gladys and predeceased by her brother Ray. She will be missed by many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He worked for Canada Post for over thirty-three years and after retiring from there, worked part time for the Calgary School Board for twelve years as a lunchroom supervisor. KOSTESKY, Diane Lynn (nee Kuzina) In the early morning of October 25, 2008, Diane went peacefully to be with the Lord at her home. Diane Kostesky was born June 14, 1958, the middle daughter of John and Iris Kuzina of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Diane was raised in Winnipeg until 1982 when she moved to Calgary were she made her home. While growing up she attended Miles Macdonell Collegiate, then graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (honours). She met and married Vincent Kostesky on September 16, 1995 and they were blessed with their adopted daughter, Amber Lynn, born August 19, 1997. For most of her blessed life, Diane was very active in sports and social activities, always ready to organize the next function. Unfortunately, sickness struck her in 1996 and then she fought a courageous battle with cancer since 2000. Throughout this ordeal, she not only strengthened her faith, but impacted her family, friends and associates with her bravery and steadfastness; always ready to extend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours. She was an active member of the New Jubilee Christian Centre of Calgary where she leaves behind many dear friends and prayer partners. May God Bless Every One of Them. ROHRER, Erwin Erwin Rohrer passed away peacefully at his home on October 22, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Erwin will be lovingly remembered by his godchildren, extended family, friends and neighbors of Bridgeland. Erwin was born on September 16, 1925 in Luzern, Switzerland. He immigrated to Canada on February 23, 1950 and settled in Calgary, Alberta. He then received his Canadian citizenship on October 21, 1955. Erwin worked at Calgary General Hospital as a nurse orderly for many years until his retirement in 1980. Erwin will be remembered for his flower gardens and always lending a helping hand. AULSEBROOK, Mamie Elaine (nee Wray) - passed away October 24th, 2008, at the Stedman Community Hospice. Born at Brandy Creek near Windham Centre. The daughter of Burleigh and Janie Wray, she was the youngest of thirteen brothers and sisters. The loving mom of Jeannie Herriman (Kirk), Tom Aulsebrook (Kathryn) and Carl Barkley (Christine) and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The dear friend of the late Mr. Bill Marshall who cherished her love, help and company. She was the “daughter he never had“. Mamie found peace and solace in her garden. It represented the life lessons of nurturing, patience and responsibility, which she passed on to all who knew her. She gave countless hours helping those she loved; as well as many who otherwise would have had no one else. Special thanks to all at the B.G.H. BROOKS-BREWER, Norma L. - Norma Louise Brooks-Brewer, 66, a resident of the Bonnie Brae Health Care Centre in Tavistock since April and formerly of Woodland Towers, Stratford and Brantford passed away at her residence on Friday, October 24, 2008. She was born at Brantford, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ruby (Horney) Poole on August 9, 1942. She was raised by William and Laura Madden of Paris. She worked as an RNA at Brantford General Hospital until failing health forced her to retire twelve years ago when she moved to Stratford. She was predeceased by two husbands, Richard “Dick“ Brooks and David Brewer and two brothers, Warren Poole and Norman Poole- Springall. Norma is survived by her daughter Brenda and husband Stewart “Stew“ Cavaliere of Shakespeare; her son, Douglas and wife Meranda Brooks of Stoney Creek; three grandchildren, Luke Brooks, Brandy Brooks and Brooke Cavaliere; one brother, Donald and wife Virginia Poole of Minnesota; three sisters, Barbara Ann and husband Richard Toole of Regina, Sask.; Marie and husband Bob Clark of Stoney Creek, Linda and husband Paul Groves of Toronto. As an avid fisherman and gardener, John leaves many fond memories of fishing trips and tomatoes. The family will receive their friends at J.J.
