SHARMA, Dr. Manohar Lal (Daddy) April 13, 1919 - October 22, 2008 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend at the age of 89 years. Daddy, as most of us knew him, passed away peacefully from natural causes on October 22, 2008. He is survived by his family and friends in Canada and around the world. Throughout his life, Daddy not only touched the lives of humans but also of animals. As a well respected veterinary doctor working in both India and Nepal, Daddy dedicated most of his adult life to advancing veterinary research and even lived away from his family for many years in Nepal to further this ambition. His passion allowed him to be the first to introduce artificial insemination for animals in India. His love for learning was easy to spot through his depth of knowledge about the world. He also loved taking long walks and enjoyed nature. Daddy is best known, however, for being a devoted family man and someone who always had a giving nature. His family will always remember his caring nature and his dedication to life. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. We request that all of Daddy's family and friends celebrate his life, as he would have wanted, by continuing in the tradition of giving to your loved ones and those less fortunate around you. Cantin, Réjeanne, (Jean) Died as she lived with courage and acceptance after a short battle with cancer. Her optimism and sense of humour throughout her life serves as an example to all the lives that she touched. Born at Notre Dame de la Paix, Québec, Réjeanne moved to Timmins at the age of 13 where she met her dashing husband Ambroise and raised four children: Raymond (Lise) , Marc (Jocelyne) , Lise (Rob) and Louise and eight grandchildren; Shon (Tammy) , Patrick (Joanne) , Renée (René) , Joelle (Chad) , Stéphane, Mélanie, Derek (Angèle) and Aaron (Valérie) and eight great grandchildren. May everyone who knew her remember her love of people, family and mostly her love of life. Sincere thanks to Dr Rachel Maisonneuve who’s sincere care and compassion eased the pain through this very difficult journey. OBITUARY PAULINE NEMER (COUREY) January 1, 1923 - October 22, 2008 Our dear Pauline peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Jewish General Hospital. Pauline was the widow of Khalil (Kelly) Nemer, to whom she was joyfully married for forty years and continued to love for the remainder of her life. She was the loving and cherished mother and best friend of Diane. Pauline leaves behind two siblings, Denyse Roten (Ron) and Joseph Courey (Denise). She was predeceased by sisters Odette Courey, Jeannette Habib (John) and brother Paul (Norma) and sisters-in-law, Victoria Zakaib (Michael), Alice Barakett (Adelard) and Mary Saba (Chehade). Mom led a life guided by Christ's love and wisdom. She was known for her gentle smile, patience, encouragement of others and purity and tenderness of heart; she had love to give everyone she encountered. She had a very special uncomplicated approach to life and never hesitated to quietly help those in need in any way she could. "Auntie Pauline" will be missed by many nieces, nephews, church family, neighbours and close friends that she considered as family. Even her pets that gave so much pleasure will feel the void she is leaving in their little lives. Heartfelt thanks go to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Jewish General Hospital for their compassionate and excellent care. MEDEIROS, Manuel Jr. - 1940 - 2008 died peacefully surrounded by his adoring family on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at his residence. Beloved husband of 47 years to Irene. Loving father of daughter Liz Kelly and her husband Gary (Sarnia), son Vic Medeiros and his wife Colleen (Sarnia), and daughter Stephanie Foster and her husband Brett (Kanata). Cherished grandfather of Joshua and Melissa Kelly and Victoria and Michael Foster. Dear step-grandfather of Beau, Brett, and Ben Stonehouse. Oldest brother of Maria Oliveira (London), Joe (and Eduarda) Medeiros (Alvinston), Elvira Moniz (Portugal), Cremilde Ponte (Sarnia), Tony (and Alciria) Medeiros (Sarnia), Mike (and Maggie) Medeiros (Sarnia), Sara (and Mike) Ibrahim (Windsor), Daniel (and Yvonne) Medeiros (Sarnia), and Mary Jo (and Gordon) Norman (Ft. Saskatchewan, Alberta). Eldest son of the late Manuel and Maria Piadade Medeiros. Fondly remembered by a multititude of nephews, nieces, and cousins. At the age of 21, Manuel Medeiros emigrated from So Miguel, Açores, Portugal to Canada. He quickly became fluent with the English language. This enabled him to help countless Portuguese families with their new beginnings in Canada. Manuel was a key player in bringing the Portuguese- Canadian community of Sarnia together in the late 70's by organizing a series of dances at the Polish Hall. Soon after, he was one of a trio of men to organize the first annual St. Antonio's Festival. By the mid- eighties, one of his main goals was accomplished - the establishment of The Portuguese Canadian Club which continues to operate successfully to this day. In the last year of his life, he accomplished one more important goal - the organization of the first annual Medeiros Family picnic. Manuel worked at Imperial Oil for 30 years and was known as a dedicated employee that took pride in his work. He loved the surrounding lake and beaches. He loved to swim, and fish. He loved to “experiment“ in the kitchen, and play Sueca with his family. But mostly, he loved and was fiercely proud of everyone in his family. We would like to thank Dr. Pratt, Dr. Dostaler, Dr.Yoshida, Dr. Lock, Dr. Welch, Dr. Ahmad and the nurses of Bluewater Health Palliative Care for their never-ending attempts to extend and improve the quality of Manuel's life during his battle with cancer over the past seven months. We would also like to thank all our family and friends who provided their love and support during his illness. Mr. Watson was born on April 13, 1932 in Moncton, New Brunswick, he later moved to Toronto and then settled in Welland. He worked at the Welland County General Hospital for 20 years and then worked along his wife Trudy with the Niagara Region senior citizens for 40 years. Mr. Watson was a long time member of Four Square Gospel Church and later Faith Tabernacle Church. “Dad we are all going to miss you. You were a dedicated and loving husband and you were always there for your sons and daughters-in law as a wonderful father. You enjoyed seeing your grandchildren and spending time with them. You were a devoted Christian and enjoyed hockey and loved country music.” The family will receive friends at the H.L. NOAKES, Kathleen (Kay) F. Pullen (nee Losey). December 3, 1928 to October 16, 2008. It is with heavy hearts we announce that after a three-year battle with cancer, Kathleen, wife of the late Frank M. Noakes and the late Gerald R. Pullen quietly passed away at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg. Daughter of the late Howard and Katherine Losey (nee Williams) and sister of the late Mabel Cunningham of Montreal and Elizabeth Helpard of Nova Scotia, she leaves behind to mourn her daughter Susan Moore (David) of Winnipeg, son Kevin Noakes (Mildred) of Calgary and daughter Cathleen Hornberger (David) of Virginia. Also mourning her loss are her grandchildren, Cpl. Michael Morrison (Manivone) and Barbara Morrison of Winnipeg. Zandran, Zorondras, Zendrek, Zyrlynn, Zihbien of Calgary and Shawn and Brandon of Virginia. Mom was also the proud great-grandmother of Christine, Travis, Steve and Melissa also of Winnipeg. Mom will also be missed by her many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mom was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Montreal, NDG Branch 24/106 for many years where she loved being with her friends and participating in the suppers and dances. She will be remembered for her strength, determination, generosity and love of family. A memorial service to celebrate Mom's life will be held 7 p.m., Sat. KALYN, Karen Diane October 11, 1952 - October 23, 2008 Karen Kalyn, beloved wife of Paul of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the age of 56 years after a battle with cancer. BLACK, Joan Marie Eveangeline (Joni) Joni Black of Chestermere, Alberta passed away on October 22, 2008 from breast cancer at the age of 53 years. Joni is survived by her loving husband and kindred spirit, Daniel Jenkins. They were very lucky to have shared a great life of love, adventure, and travel. Their trips took them to Australia, Europe, Asia, USA, and most parts of Canada. To pick a place that she loved best, she said she loved them all. Joni is also survived by her two wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice (Wayne) Weger, Chestermere, Alberta, Carole (Bill) Neill of Nanaimo, BC, her two sisters-in-law Anna Black of Calgary, Alberta and Judy Manahan of Palm Cove, Australia. Joni greatly loved her nieces and nephews, James (Lesa) Black, Sarah (Douglas and Eva Joan) Woroniuk, Gerad Weger all of Calgary, Holly (Cliff) Neill and Heather Neill of Nanaimo, BC, David Neill of Kuwait. Joni is also survived by her extended family Rose (Betty and Fay) Jenkins of Abbotsford, BC, and cousins in Alberta, BC, and Cape Breton and by her good friend and ex-husband Joe Boyle of Edmonton. Joni was predeceased by her Dad and Mom, Jim and Margaret Black, her two brothers Brian and Stan and her father-in-law, Norm Jenkins. We would like to thank Dr. Alexander Paterson of the TBCC for his excellent medical care. Joni would especially like to thank Janice for all her baked goodies and Carole for all her phone calls. Joni loved animals (especially Thor and Clem, her dog and cat), gardening, traveling, golfing, curling, shooting pool, and being in the company of good friends. In her younger years she was an avid skier and loved horseback riding. Joni was blessed with a great family and great friends, with whom, over the years, she shared great fun, amazing trips, a few tears, and sometimes a wee bit of trouble. Joni had an enriching career and great colleagues who extended much kindness and support during her cancer journey. Her employers were Nova Corp, SAP, Agrium, and Fortis, where she experienced wonderful opportunities enabling her to work in many parts of the world.
