GAY, Christopher Geoffrey - Suddenly passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the age of 32 years. Very much loved son of Barry and the late Janice Gay. Loving brother of Shannon McLellan. HARNUM, Esther (nee Schellenberg) - Gently and peacefully passed away from the arms of her family to the loving arms of Jesus, at home on October 21, 2008, in her 75th year. Passionately loved for 55 years by her husband Harold and cherished by her children, Steve (Elizabeth), Cheryl (Herm), Pam (Zeke) and adored by grandchildren; Ian, Geoff, Ryan, Heidi, Andrew, Heather, Rachel and Laura and by 8 great grandchildren. Esther the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters is predeceased by 9 siblings and survived by Tina (Gordon) Bickel and Hank (Barb) Schellenberg and sister in law Beth Schellenberg. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was born in Carnduf, Saskatchewan on May 30, 1934 to Jake and Maria Schellenberg. A tiny baby of only 3 pounds, she slept in a shoe box on the warm oven door for the first three weeks of life. At just 3 years of age, her mother died and at 13, Esther left home to come to Ontario to live with her older sisters. She met Harold at age 14 and married him at 18, on March 14, 1953. They shared a love that few ever know and have spent the past 55 years making a happy haven for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Esther's life was a beautiful reflection of Jesus, mirrored by the way she loved and cared for family and friends, always with compassion and tenderness. Her kitchen was filled with the aroma of fresh buns, cookies and pies, in abundant supply and generously shared with all. The family wishes to express their most heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Hartman and nurses, Lizabeth, Vivian and Andrea from CCAC. Your support and care gave us all the strength we needed to make it through. OBITUARY PAULINE NEMER (COUREY) January 1, 1923 - October 22, 2008 Our dear Pauline peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Jewish General Hospital. Pauline was the widow of Khalil (Kelly) Nemer, to whom she was joyfully married for forty years and continued to love for the remainder of her life. She was the loving and cherished mother and best friend of Diane. Pauline leaves behind two siblings, Denyse Roten (Ron) and Joseph Courey (Denise). She was predeceased by sisters Odette Courey, Jeannette Habib (John) and brother Paul (Norma) and sisters-in-law, Victoria Zakaib (Michael), Alice Barakett (Adelard) and Mary Saba (Chehade). Mom led a life guided by Christ's love and wisdom. She was known for her gentle smile, patience, encouragement of others and purity and tenderness of heart; she had love to give everyone she encountered. She had a very special uncomplicated approach to life and never hesitated to quietly help those in need in any way she could. "Auntie Pauline" will be missed by many nieces, nephews, church family, neighbours and close friends that she considered as family. Even her pets that gave so much pleasure will feel the void she is leaving in their little lives. Heartfelt thanks go to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Jewish General Hospital for their compassionate and excellent care. HYDE, Donna Lorraine (nee Dahl) July 27, 1947 - October 17, 2008 Passed away suddenly at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB, at the age of 61. Donna was born to Ole and Jessie Dahl. She was the youngest of three children. She grew up in Dahlton, SK and attended high school in Naicam, SK. Donna finished her Grade 12 and furthered her education at a business college in Saskatoon. Here she made many special friends and unto her two daughters were born. She moved to Calgary, AB in 1998 and again making many special friends. But her heart was always in Saskatchewan with plans of retiring and moving back there some day. She will be sadly missed by: her daughters Sheri (Cory) Huska of Slave Lake, AB, Brenda (Denis) Sunderland of Naicam, SK; five grandchildren Jordan Huska, Kaitlyn Huska, Kegan Sunderland, Taylor Sunderland, Jenelle Sunderland; brother Floyd (June) Dahl of Royston, BC; sister Faye Craig of Saskatoon, SK; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and co-workers. She was predeceased by her father Ole Dahl, mother Jessie Dahl, common-law husband Jim Sullivan, father-in-law Terry Sullivan and brother-in-law Warren Craig. Oz was born and raised in Hamilton, ON and moved to Calgary in the late seventies, Oz drove for Calgary Transit for over twenty-two years. He was a great man, who always knew how to light up a room with his fantastic sense of humour. To know him was to love him. 1941 - 2008 Delorese Manuel, 67, of Baie Ste-Anne passed away on Friday, October 17th 2008 at the George L Dumont Hospital after a courageous battle with Kidney disease. Married to Elias Manuel, she was born on February 21st 1941 to the late Alcide Martin and the late Marie Lucie 'Robichaud' Martin. She is survived by one daughter Monique McGeachy (Marc) of Dieppe, and two sons, Mario (Rachel) of Baie Ste Anne, and Michael (Sharon) of Dieppe, Delorese has seven grandchildren Chelsea, Samantha, Jonathan, Brandon, Emma Alyssa, and Celeste. Delorese was predeceased by her son Paul-Andre (Jenny) Manuel. Visitation will be held on Monday October 20th at the Baie Ste Anne Slumberoom from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and on Tuesday from 2 to 4. Funeral will be held at St Anne Church in Baie Ste Anne at four o'clock with Fr Robert Savoie officiating. BLACK, Joan Marie Eveangeline (Joni) Joni Black of Chestermere, Alberta passed away on October 22, 2008 from breast cancer at the age of 53 years. Joni is survived by her loving husband and kindred spirit, Daniel Jenkins. They were very lucky to have shared a great life of love, adventure, and travel. Their trips took them to Australia, Europe, Asia, USA, and most parts of Canada. To pick a place that she loved best, she said she loved them all. Joni is also survived by her two wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice (Wayne) Weger, Chestermere, Alberta, Carole (Bill) Neill of Nanaimo, BC, her two sisters-in-law Anna Black of Calgary, Alberta and Judy Manahan of Palm Cove, Australia. Joni greatly loved her nieces and nephews, James (Lesa) Black, Sarah (Douglas and Eva Joan) Woroniuk, Gerad Weger all of Calgary, Holly (Cliff) Neill and Heather Neill of Nanaimo, BC, David Neill of Kuwait. Joni is also survived by her extended family Rose (Betty and Fay) Jenkins of Abbotsford, BC, and cousins in Alberta, BC, and Cape Breton and by her good friend and ex-husband Joe Boyle of Edmonton. Joni was predeceased by her Dad and Mom, Jim and Margaret Black, her two brothers Brian and Stan and her father-in-law, Norm Jenkins. We would like to thank Dr. Alexander Paterson of the TBCC for his excellent medical care. Joni would especially like to thank Janice for all her baked goodies and Carole for all her phone calls. Joni loved animals (especially Thor and Clem, her dog and cat), gardening, traveling, golfing, curling, shooting pool, and being in the company of good friends. In her younger years she was an avid skier and loved horseback riding. Joni was blessed with a great family and great friends, with whom, over the years, she shared great fun, amazing trips, a few tears, and sometimes a wee bit of trouble. Joni had an enriching career and great colleagues who extended much kindness and support during her cancer journey. Her employers were Nova Corp, SAP, Agrium, and Fortis, where she experienced wonderful opportunities enabling her to work in many parts of the world. Avis de décès DEMERS FORTIN Mme Lucille 1915-2008 Maman, merci pour tout ce que tu as semé dans nos coeurs. Le mercredi 22 octobre à l'âge de 92 ans s'est endormie pour toujours notre mère Lucille Demers Fortin, née à Fitchburg, Mass. USA, le 3 novembre 1915. Depuis quelques années Maman avait beaucoup changé. Son esprit a été rongé par une douce démence, maladie apparentée à l'Alzheimer. Le processus a été sournois, il y d'abord eu de petites absences de mémoire, charmantes, drôles et sans conséquence. Maman mélangeait tout, oubliait nos noms et nous souriions. Puis les oublis se sont multipliés: elle ne se rappelait plus de sa famille, ni de ses souvenirs, ni de ceux qu'elle aimait. Tout se mélangeait dans sa tête. Elle a oublié son nom. Son sourire chaleureux a fait place à de l'inquiétude et a beaucoup de questions qu'elle ne pouvait formuler mais que nous pouvions lire dans ses yeux. Elle a vécu les trois dernières années au centre Marie-Berthe Couture où une équipe de personnes remarquables a dignement accompagnée Maman; nous en sommes très reconnaissants et les remerçions sincèrement de l'amour avec laquelle elles ont entouré notre Mère. Nous avons perdu notre héroïne, notre complice, celle à qui nous pouvions confier nos petits et grands bobos. Elle avait des mains guérisseuses, une écoute attentive et une compassion apaisante. Elle nous a enseigné la foi, l'amour, la gratitude et la valeur du partage. Femme de coeur, passionnée, son amour de la vie aura touché tous ceux qui l'ont côtoyé. Aujourd'hui elle s'est envolée vers le Seigneur chez qui elle retrouvera son grand Amour, Denis Fortin décédé en 1974. Bon voyage et merci pour tout ce que tu as semé dans nos cours. De là haut elle veillera sur nous: Camille (Michel Boutin), Claude (Marianne Mélançon), feu Bertrand (Solange Ménard), Yves-André (Michèle Jobin), Rhéaume (Diane Choquette), Marie-France (Norbert Dupuis), Hélène, Dominik (Kathy Birkholder), Johanne (Jean-Marc Ménard), ses 12 petits-enfants et ses 14 arrière petits-enfants. Elle laisse sa sour Monique et son frère Jean-Marie ainsi que ses belles soeurs. La messe se déroulera en présence des cendres à l'église Saint-Luc de Granby, 100 rue Langlois, samedi le 25 octobre à 11 heures. Nous vous accueillerons une heure avant la cérémonie religieuse dans le vestibule de l'église. Les cendres seront mises en terre au cimetière Monseigneur Pelletier immédiatement après les funérailles.
