THOMSON, James E. 'Connor' September 12, 1997 - October 20, 2008 - When October 20th comes next year we will all remember a young man of great courage. Connor Thomson battled with Leukemia for most of his life and he did it with grace, dignity and ferocious tenacity. Early in the morning of October 20th, 2008 Connor left us. For those of us who had the honor of knowing him during his life, we have all been blessed with a gift. Connor showed all of us how to walk forward in difficult times, acknowledging those he loved, embracing each day with joy and how in the most adverse times to keep our sense of humor. WHITE, Matthew - Matthew White passed away on October 11, 2008 at the age of 22. He is survived by his sister Amanda Fiorentino and gone to join both his mother and father Carol and Dennis White in heaven. Matt will be missed by many including Grandma Muriel, Grandma Anita, Uncle Al and Wilma, Uncle Jim, Uncle Don, Aunt Annette and his cousins Vince, Paul, Joe, Nick, Chelsea, Jeremy, Tara, Jordan, Rob, Vicki and Jamie. Matt will be remembered for the kindness and compassion he showed, the support and comfort he gave to his mom when she was sick as well as Neville will always be grateful for the home she found because of Matt. HARLEY, Ken - of Welland, suddenly at the Welland County General Hospital on Monday afternoon, October 20, 2008 in his 82nd year. Mr. Harley will be sadly missed by his partner Vicky Blanchard and children Jack Harley (Brenda Blecker) of Palmerston and Susan Harley-Kidd (Bryan Kidd) of Welland. Also survived by his brother William Harley of Burlington, sister Mildred Terreberry of Welland, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Arby and Alice (Mellon) Harley, sister-in-law Stella Harley and brother-in-law Ronald Terreberry. Mr. Harley was born in Welland and remained a lifelong resident here. After attending Welland High School, Ken worked at Canadian National Express, and then retired from Atlas Steels after 30 years of service. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br.#4, Welland and was a piper in the Thistle Highlander Pipes & Drums. His favourite pastimes were tending to his rose gardens and playing cribbage. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Welland Hospital Foundation (Dialysis Unit) would be appreciated, with cards available at the H.L. DOLAICZUK, Donald 2008-10-22 Mr. Donald (Don) James Dolaiczuk, age 55 years, resident of Nolalu ON, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday October 17, 2008. Don was born in Kitchener, ON, on September 5, 1953. He was raised and educated in Thunder Bay and attended Sir Winston Churchill High School. Don lived in Edgewood B.C. and returned to Thunder Bay in 1985 and he was currently employed as Shipper-Receiver with Zellers Inc. As an avid outdoorsman, Don‚s greatest joy was spent living on his country property. He is survived by his brother Gary Samms, sister Karen Miller (Tom), Christopher, Geoffrey, Jennifer, sister Melissa Blatchford (Ted), Courtney and Tiffany. Don will be sadly missed by numerous cousins, aunts, uncle and by good friends Rick Crowe, Ryan Crowe, Jeff Wiltshire and Albert Hakamaki. Don was predeceased by his father Harry Dolaiczuk and mother Dorothy Dolaiczuk. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life for Don will be held at a later date. McNABB, Vivian Ann 2008-10-22 Vivian Ann McNabb, age 86, passed away Oct 16 with her family by her side. Formerly of Thunder Bay, she resided in South Surrey, B.C. for the last 3 years. She was unafraid, ready and chose her own way right to the end. Vivian was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Malcolm McNabb. She is survived by her children Gay (Ray) Brill, Derek (Susan) McNabb, Stuart (Nancy) McNabb, Claudia (Douglas Kuusela) McNabb and her grandchildren Paula Tully, Eric Brill, Matt Brill, Sue Whittaker, Jim Brill, Keri McNabb, Tyler McNabb, Brady McNabb, Morgan Latta, Elizabeth Latta, Sean Latta and her great grandchildren Taylor King, Alana Brill, Sara McNabb and Hannah Whittaker. Claudette M Melanson 1946-2008 A l'Hôpital de Moncton le mercredi 22 octobre 2008, à l'âge de 62 ans, est décédée Claudette Marie Melanson, épouse de feu Gerry Melanson. Née le 1er juillet 1946 à Moncton, elle était le fille de feu Harvey et Annie (Caissie) LeBlanc. Outre son époux, elle laisse dans le deuil deux fils: Robert (Davina) de Port Williams, N.-É. et Danny (Tanya Vautour) de Moncton; deux petits-enfants: Kenzie et Keira; ses frères et soeurs: Joe (Elaine) de Hudson, MA, Gerry (Edna), Yvon (Barb), Jeannine LeBlanc, Bernice Jaillet (Roger), Yvonne LeBlanc (Brian), Emerice LeBlanc (Mike) tous de Moncton, Linda Leger de Riverview et Norma LeBlanc de l'Alberta; ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Betty, his three stepchildren, Clement, Lori and Michael, his much loved grandchildren Matthew, Michelle and Christopher and his earlier sons Michael and Terry. FYFE, Irene Eleanor Irene Eleanor Fyfe (nee Carran) passed away on October 16, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Born in Carsland, Alberta she was raised on a farm in the Acadia Valley area with five brothers and a sister (all deceased). Married in 1942 to George H. Fyfe they travelled around the Imperial Oil oil patch for ten years before settling in Camrose, then Calgary, then Edmonton. Since George's death she has resided at Royal Park Seniors Residence in Calgary where she made many good friends. She was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, neighbour, friend and relative. She was an artist, a seamstress, a sportswoman (curling, golf, lawn bowling) and a card player extraordinaire. She was playing bridge until August and crib a few days before her passing. Irene was a life-member of Oilwives in both Edmonton and Calgary greatly enjoying lifetime friendships. Irene brought joy with her wonderful smile and way of brightening conversations. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild: daughters Kathy Newman (Jenne, Jae and Ruby, and Sara); Sylvia and Ken Teare (Brad, Stephanie and Paul); son Don and Jan Fyfe (Jason and Zoe, and Jordan). She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Olive Carran, as well as nine nieces and nephews to whom she was a beloved aunt. A Celebration of Irene's Life will be held at Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W., Calgary, AB T3C 3B2) on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Robert Mutlow presiding. Following Cremation, Irene will join George in the columbarium niche at Westlawn Cemetery in Edmonton. After a courageous battle with cancer and with his family by his side, Paul Green of Perth-Andover passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2008. Born in Bath, NB, on December 13, 1950, he was the son of the late Paul and Eva (Downing) Green. Paul leaves behind his wife Barbara (Southan) Green; his sons Jason (Julie) Green of Perth-Andover, Pte. Joel Green of CFB Pettewawa; his grandchildren Anson and Ainsley Green of Perth-Andover; sisters Lena Milliard of Connecticut, Linda (Danny) McPhee of Saint John; nieces and nephews Jeff (Debbie) Milliard, Michelle (Dave) Delusso, Scott Milliard, Patty Milliard, Mitchell Clark, Jocelyn Clark, Logan Savage, Zachary Green and Jackson Green. He was predeceased by his parents, his niece Kathy Milliard, and nephew Peter Milliard Jr. Paul worked at Hotel Dieu of St. Joseph Hospital in Perth-Andover as the Chief Laboratory Technologist with 30 years of service. He was a member and a Deacon at the Perth-Andover Baptist Church. He was also the church treasurer in the more recent years. Paul was the Assistant Chief for the Perth-Andover Fire Department. He had 22 years of service with the department. Over the years, Paul was also the Captain and the Training Officer. He was winner of two New Brunswick Firefighter Curling Association Championships. He was also the recipient of the Federal Fire Service Medal for 20 years of exemplary service. Paul had 20 years of coaching in minor hockey and curling. He coached the Kelly rink to a bronze medal in the Junior World Curling Championships in Italy in 2005. He also had multiple Junior Curling Championships. Paul won many awards in his lifetime. Among them are the Canadian Medical Laboratory Society's David Ball Award recognizing volunteerism for the community in 2004, Male Coach of the Year in 2004-05, and the 3M Coach of the Year Award in 2001. In 2008, Paul was inducted to the Perth-Andover Wall of Fame for community involvement and dedication to the village. Funeral service was held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 2 pm from the Perth-Andover Baptist Church. Rev. David Ferrell officiated, assisted by Rev. Jason Hinsdale. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Songs for the service were "The Power of Love" sung by Mario Joyall, "Come to Jesus" sung by Marianne Bell, and the congregational hymn "It Is Well With My Soul". Words of remembrance were shared by Paul's nephew, Jeff Milliard, Paul's brother-in-law, Stuart Clark and Paul's friend, Dr. Peter Moore. Pallbearers were Capt. Keith Kinney, Capt. Keith Taylor, Jeff Watters-Gray, Nathan Pirie, Leigh Boone, and Heidi Baird. Honorary Pallbearers were Danny McPhee, Jeff Milliard, Stuart Clark, Rod Green, Dr. Peter Moore, and Terry Finnamore.
