GREER-FOELLER, Edna Peacefully, at Lanark Lodge, Perth on Monday, October 13, 2008. Edna (Wood) Greer-Foeller in her 94th year. Beloved wife of Joe Foeller and predeceased by her first husdand Roy W. Greer in 1975. Loved mother of Gerry (Dolores) Greer of Kanata, Dorothy (Jack) Paul of Brockville, Harold (Jean) Greer and Kay (the late Dr. Orm) Murphy all of Smiths Falls. Sadly missed by her 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, her nieces, nephews, extended families and friends. Predeceased by her infant son Harry, great-grandson Raymond and her 12 brothers and sisters. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Tuesday, October 14th from 6 to 8 p.m Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Hillcrest Cemetery. Mother and best friend to Dawn Deme (Steven), the late Ian MacDonald (Mary), Karen Laughlin (Terrence), Sandra MacDonald-Rencz (Andrew) and Margaret MacDonald Jones (Russell). Grandmother of Sean (Elizabeth) and Sarah Laughlin, Edward (Deb) and Jennifer MacDonald, Matthew, Amanda and Benjamin Rencz and great-grandmother of Angus and Evan MacDonald and Sophia and Liam Laughlin. Big sister of Winnifred MacDonald (late Al) and Edward Lisle (Betty). Frances had an amazing capacity for enduring friendships beginning with her sister Win, her teaching colleagues, especially Pat, her students in Kingston, and the friends of her retirement years in Bedeque, PEI, and in Ottawa the MacDonald clan and the gang at the Landmark Retirement Residence. Germaine Le Breton Jean Mise à jour le mardi 14 octobre 2008 Par: AP (1924-2008) SAINT-ISIDORE - C’est avec une immense tristesse que la famille Le Breton vous fait part du décès de leur mère, Germaine Le Breton Jean (née Chiasson), survenu à l’Hôpital de Tracadie-Sheila, après une longue maladie, à l’âge de 84 ans. Elle était fille de feu Germain Chiasson et de feu Clara Rousselle de Saint-Isidore. Elle était l’épouse de feu Richard Le Breton et de feu Rosario Jean, en second mariage. Outre ses deux soeurs: Marie-Anne et Alfreda (Paul) de Montréal, elle laisse dans le deuil ses quatre fils: Ronald (Christiane) de Chicoutimi, Qc, Denis (Sonja) de Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jean-Yves de Cranberry Village, Manitoba et Roger (Lyette) de Saint-Isidore; ses cinq filles: Réjeanne de Beresford, Yolande de Tilley Road, Aline (Gérard) de Saint-Isidore, Yvette d’Ottawa, Ont. et Ginette de Gatineau, Qc, également dans la chagrin ses nombreux petits-enfants et arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que trois filleules: Jeannine, Monique et Janic et plusieurs neveux, nièces, beaux-frères et belles-soeurs qui l’aimaient énormément. Elle laisse également dans le deuil les enfants de son second conjoint: Jean-Luc (Jacqueline), Michel (Réjeanne), Gérard (Cécile), Antoine (Berthe), Donat (Sylvie) et Léandor (Gaétane) et leurs enfants. Deux fils: Paul-Émile et Clarence; un petit-fils, Gregory; un gendre, Dave; un frère, Rhéal, ainsi qu’une soeur, Rita, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. Germaine a été très active dans sa communauté en tant que membre et présidente du Club de l’âge d’or, membre de l’Institut féminin et membre de l’Accueil de jour de Saint-Isidore. Elle était l’auteure du livre Mon témoignage, mon héritage, publié en 2004. DECOSTE, Joseph Augustine (Gus) The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by his family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Friday, October 10, 2008, of Joseph Augustine (Gus) DeCoste of Summerside and formerly of St. Eleanors, P.E.I., aged 90 years. Veteran of World War II. Gus was born on July 15, 1918, in Petit de Grat, N.S., to his late parents, John and Obeline (nee DesRoches) DeCoste. Beloved husband of the late Rose (nee Richard) DeCoste and loving father of Albert (Sheila) of Petawawa, On., Ronald (Linda) of Edmonton, AB., Wayne (Erin), Louie (Dixie) and son-in-law Eric Rogerson, all of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by his eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Survived by his sister Mary (Steve) Kovacs of Winnipeg, Man., and his sister-in-law Kate Bernard of Miscouche. RYAN, Linda Frances The death occurred peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of the Prince Edward Home on Sunday October 12, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer of Linda Ryan of Charlottetown, aged 60 years. Dear mother of Matthew Gauthier and cherished daughter of Gladys Ryan and beloved sister of Donna (Paul) Casford. Linda is also fondly remembered by her niece Linda (Jeff) McKenna and their children Ryan and Maggie and nephew Richie (Valana) Casford. She was predeceased by her father Richard (Dick) Ryan, her infant sister Sharon and nephew Robbie Casford. OBITUARY MISHA WAJSMAN On Monday, October 13, 2008 at the age of ninety-one. Born in Lutsk, Poland on February 1, 1917, he fought with the Soviet Army during World War II and survived the darkest era in history. A life long activist for memory and witness of the Holocaust, he was also actively engaged in the struggle for Soviet Jewry. He was founding President of the Federation of Wolynian Jews in Montreal, and Vice-President of the Jewish Community Council. An avid athlete, he was table tennis champion in Moscow after the War. He immigrated to Canada in 1959 and will be remembered for his spirited determination to build the museum in Givataim, Israel, with his boyhood friends that commemorate Jews from the Wolyn district of Ukraine who perished in the Holocaust. An Aeronautical Engineer, Paul leaves a legacy of historically important aircraft design, especially the STOL systems for the deHavilland Caribou, Buffalo and Twin Otter. While working for the Department of Industry, he managed industrial benefits for procurement of CF-18 and Aurora aircraft for the Canadian Forces. Paul was a model train enthusiast, loyal friend, world traveler, and selfless caregiver. Devoted husband of the late Ann Church, loving father of Geoffrey (Joey) of Prince Edward County, Ontario and Pamela Cogan (Glenn Johnson) of Ottawa, proud grandfather of Sasha and Jacob Cogan. Adoring companion of Beverley Andrews. Brother of Maureen (Robert Bender), Toronto. ALLEN, Rovelle Harper He was born September 5, 1910, the only child of James and Jessie (Harper) Allen and grew up on their farm near Aylesbury, Saskatchewan. Attended Regina College, and University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a BSc and MSc in Chemistry. Continued his studies at University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating with a PhD and MD. He came to Ottawa to the Laboratory of Hygiene (later the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control) in 1943 where he remained until retirement in 1975. Pre-deceased by his first wife Viola Harvey whom he married in 1941. Survived by: his second wife, Shirley Home van Sickle; his sons Larry (Lee) and Les (Cathy); daughter Lynne (Loney); grandchildren Sandy, Michael (Mary Ann), Jamie, Carolyn, David and Jessica. Rovelle died on Saturday, October 11 at Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus, after a short illness. He will be greatly missed for his qualities of kindness, good judgment, gentleness and humour. Friends are invited to visit Friday, October 17 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm at Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, Central Chapel, 315 McLeod St. Funeral Service will take place at 2:30 pm in the Chapel. Affectionately known as 'Oh, my Papa' to his daughter, Carol-Ann Matthews (Sheldon) of Kingston, and dear father to sons, Noel Ernest Farnum (Laurie) of Mississauga, as well as the late Leslie Arthur Farnum. Devoted grandfather to Joshua and Oliver Matthews and Candace, Warren and Wade Farnum. Predeceased by brothers, Sir G.A. Cyril Farnum, C.B.E.; Hon. Gilbert McRea Farnum, QC, Attorney General of British Guiana; and Duncan A. Farnum, Minister of Finance for British Guiana. PATTERSON, Barbara (Rowcliffe) - Suddenly, at the age of 89, on October 12, at Kingston General Hospital, with daughter Judith and friend Jeanne Connors at her side. Born and raised in Toronto, the youngest child of six of English immigrants. She is survived by daughter Judith (fiance Jamie Tiller), brother Ted, niece and nephew Deb and Bob Rowcliffe, and long-time family friend Pat Bolla. Predeceased by daughter Laurie (1970) and husband Glen (2007). She had a long and happy marriage to Glen, marred only by the death of Laurie, the great heartache of her life. They moved to Kingston in 1972, where she was active in the Engineers Wives Club, and volunteered for many years at Hotel Dieu. She was a great cook and gardener, loved playing bridge, and was the Reddendale bridge champion with long-time friend Marg Steckley. She had a sharp wit and keen mind right until her death. She was a loving mother and wife, good friend, and will be missed by all who knew her. Cremation. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME (1900 John Counter Boulevard), on Friday, October 17, at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Job van Hartingsveldt officiating.
