Sister and sister-in-law of Howard Mendelsohn, Joe Mendelsohn, Marion Mendelsohn, and Barbara and the late Phil Grief. She will be sadly missed by her many relatives and friends. O'NEILL, John Franklin (Jack) - Peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the age of 93. A good man who made a difference in a life well spent. Beloved husband of 60 years to the late Ruth Evelyn. Loving father of Roy (Vaike) and Michael (Brenda). Cherished Poppa of Luke (Melanie), Julia Aura (Bob), Katelin, Kieran, Kellan and Michaela. Uncle of Darlene and Larry Bobbie. Special friend of Susan Foster. Jack was General Manager of Employee Relations at Algoma Steel, Chairman of the United Way, founding builder of the Sault Pee Wee Arena, Regent on the Board of Ontario Colleges and Universities and a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Fame. Jack was a man of great conscience, civility and grace. He touched the lives of many through an unselfish dedication to do the right thing. Eternally optimistic, he gave more than he took, laughed more than he cried and loved every second of his life. To him the sun always shone and it shone upon us. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family, friends and the community which he loved. OBITUARY JOAN MARCOGLIESE (nee STANSBURY) 1927 - 2008 Passed away on July 31, 2008 at the age of eighty surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted and loving wife to Carmine (James) Marcogliese for 54 years, she leaves behind her cherished children: David (Jenny Cook), Catherine (Mike Tommasi) and Deborah (Paul Moreau) and her grandchildren: Anthony and Alessandra, Katherine, Max and Lukas. Predeceased by her brothers Bob and Jim, and her sister Norma, she was a dear aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Like her mother and sister before her, she was an energetic and dedicated volunteer for the auxiliary at the Catherine Booth Hospital. An avid gardener, she derived much pleasure from nature especially at her peaceful lakeside cottage. Fond of bridge and golf, she led a full and active life. The family wishes to express deepest appreciation for the gentle and highly professional assistance rendered by the staff of the I.C.U at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital. WILLIAMS, Audrey Thelma. In Montreal, on July 24, 2008. She was Auntie Audrey to three nieces and seven nephews. She was a loyal employee of Nortel for fifty years. At Audrey's request, an intimate burial was held recently. KATSANOS, Stella (nee Zanidou). Stella Katsanos, age 66, passed away July 24, 2008 in Thessaloniki, Greece surrounded by her family after a short battle with breast cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Nikos, her daughters Effie (Nikos), Doli and her grandchildren Yannis, Stavros and Jason, all of Greece. Stella was the youngest of seven sisters and she leaves behind her sisters Morfi Mourat of Racine Wisconsin, Constantine Vlahopoulos of Greece, and Catherine Lolas, Thomae Zikopoulos (Frank) and Maria Zografos (Tim) all of Sudbury. She will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews from Sudbury, Steve Lolas, Angela Zografos, Tessie Page, Marsha Smith, Sam Lolas, Jim Zikopoulos and Billy Zografos. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Vanthea. Stella came to Sudbury from Dragasia, Greece in 1957 and began working at Lolas Confectionary in Copper Cliff which was owned by her brother-in-law, Sam Lolas. She married Nick Katsanos in 1964. She resided in Copper Cliff for over twenty years and is still well remembered by many there. Stella and Nick became part owners of Lolas Confectionary in 1971 and had the store until they decided to move to her husband's town in Chrisavgi, Greece in 1978. In 1987, Stella and her family returned to Copper Cliff so that her daughter could attend Laurentian University and they returned to their home in Greece in 1990. She was devoted to her family and friends and had a wonderful life. Even though she lived far away, she was only a phone call away and will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. 11183399

Noël Matte, of Hearst The funeral service for rural Hearst area resident Noël Matte, 68, is to be held July 31 (Thursday) , 2008. He died July 27 at Notre-Dame Hospital. Born April 2, 1940 in Fauquier, he moved to the Hearst area around 1946. A cutter for different logging companies until becoming ill, he was a jovial, welcoming, generous, energetic man with a sense of humor and avid interests in horses, music and carpentry. Predeceasing him were his parents Marie Boucher and Philias Matte of Hearst, a sister Jeanne Thrones, and brothers Rodolphe, Charles, Sylvio and André Matte. He leaves his wife Fernande Matte of Hearst, daughters Carole (Régent) Paul, Irène (Aimé) Veilleux and Annette Matte, all of Hearst, and sons Alcide, Michel (Guylaine) and Gilles (Julie) Matte, all of Hearst. Also surviving are his sisters Marguerite Matte of Holtyre, Rose (Raymond St-Louis) Matte of Hearst, brothers Paul-Emile of Dryden, Gérard (Rita) and William, all of Sault Ste. Marie, Joseph (Gladys) of Moonbeam, and Roger Matte of Holtyre, as well as granddaughters Isabelle, Valérie and Gabrielle, and grandsons Dany, Jérémy and Xavier. Cremation was done prior to tomorrow’s service at 4:15 p. m. to be directed by Rev. Gérald Chalifoux at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral. James Duncan Semple (1919-2008) It is with heavy hearts that the family of James Duncan Semple announces his passing in Toronto on July 14, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa on February 6, 1982. He is survived by his four children, Bill (Debbie) of New Liskeard, Marlene of Toronto, Shirley (Gary) of San Francisco, Carol Bond (Ward) of Collingwood, and four grandchildren, Tanya of North Bay, Maxine of Fonthill, Samantha of Calgary, and Alexander Bond of Collingwood. Jim is also survived by his sister Lillian Hallett of Vancouver. He was predeceased by his brother Campbell, and sisters Jean, Margaret, Mary, and Helen. Jim was born on September 2, 1919. He was raised on the family farm in Armstrong Township and attended New Liskeard high school. During the 1950s, he operated his own farm and later worked for the Ministry of Transportation until his retirement in 1984. During World War II, Jim enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, and served in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area, and Continental Europe. Jim married Theresa Brule on January 6, 1951. Jim and Theresa raised their four children on a farm in Hilliardton Township before moving to New Liskeard in October 1966. The family home on Jaffray Street was filled with much life, love, laughter, and warmth. Following Theresa’s death, Jim moved to Toronto where he lived for most of the past 26 years. At Jim’s request, a private burial was held on July 16 at the New Liskeard Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Covenant House, Toronto, graciously accepted by the family. Special thanks to son-in-law John Halpin, who for many years entertained Jim with stories and music from Ireland and was truly a good friend.

OBITUARY INA PETERS FENDRICH HAGEN Ina Peters Hagen, a dear neighbour and friend, passed away at Notre-Dame Hospital on the July 31 at age eighty-four. She is survived by a sister, Erna Jankowski, her nieces Heidi Redekop and Eleanor Ewert and nephews John Funk, Val Ulmer and Erich Ulmer. Ina was predeceased by her three sisters, Lydia, Katherina and Maria and by her brother, John. She was the widow of Vladimir von Fendrich and Otto Hagen. Ina was born in Blumengart, a small Mennonite village in the Ukraine, and immigrated to Canada at age 25. She worked for many years as office manager at Canadian National Railways. Ina impressed those who knew her with her lively interest in others, her selflessness, her rare perceptiveness and her wit and humour. She enthusiastically shared her passion for literature and her appreciation of classical music. Her enjoyment of gardens, trees, birds and animals inspired others to a fuller appreciation of nature. Ina was a dear friend who will be sorely missed. Janina was born in Zgierz, Poland to Henriette and Hilary Stykolt. Growing up, her dearest friend was her beloved brother Stefan. After World War II, she married Stanislaw Seydegart, her life partner for 58 years. The couple had two cherished children, Kasia and Magda, and built an interesting life in Toronto and Muskoka. Janina attended Toronto and Columbia universities. She worked for many years as a social worker with the Children's Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto, and served as a Field Instructor for the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto in the 1960s and 70s. She was a passionate advocate for social justice for women, and for the love, development and protection of children. Janka was active in the National Action Committee for the Status of Women and the YWCA and was a founder of the Feminist Party of Canada. She is survived by her loving daughters Kasia Seydegart (George Spears) and Magda Seydegart (Ted Jackson) and her beloved grandchildren Stefan, Sarah, Noah, Ben and Jacob. She will be missed by her loyal friends and by all the people who had the opportunity to know her dignity, elegance and wisdom. Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at Beechwood Cemetery Reception Centre in Ottawa on Thursday August 14 at 2 p.m. for her Ottawa family and friends, and at Hart House (Music Room), University of Toronto on Saturday, September 13 at 11 a.m. for her Toronto friends and family. The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care Janka received from each and every member of the Elizabeth Bruyere Palliative Care team and from her other angels Susan, Grace, Mercy and Marietta.
