ALGER, Clifford Tompkins - Peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Friday August 1st, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Cliff was the beloved husband of Mary Winifred (nee Hands) whom he married December 21st, 1944. The loving father of John (Sharon) of Napanee, Maxine Bridges (John) of North Bay, Noreen DaCosta (Herb Mackowiak) of Copper Cliff, Judith Fitzsimons (Dan) of Toronto, Robert (Elisa MacParland) of North Bay and Ken (Karen) of Kitchener, he will also be lovingly remembered by his thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by his brother Gerald (Joyce) of St. Catharines and his sister Margaret Pike of Stratford. A veteran Cliff was a bomber pilot in the RCAF during WWII and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He proudly published his memoires while in his 80's. For many years he was a dedicated member of the 406 Wing. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) on Monday afternoon only from 2 - 4 pm. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in Trinity United Church on Tuesday August 5th at 11:00 am. Interment of ashes to follow in Terrace Lawn Cemetery. VAILLANCOURT, Florence Gwendolyn Loveday - Age 79 passed away peacefully on July 30, 2008. Florence is predeceased by her husband John and her brothers Tommy and Leslie Rickard. Florence is survived by her daughter Valine (Jesse), and her son Peter-John (Marie), her 3 handsome grandsons Jonathan-Peter, James-Robert, Justin-Michael, her sister Shirley Makinen (Roy), her in-laws Pete and Jeannette Vaillancourt and Simone DeMarchi. Florence also has many nieces and nephews. Florence was a long time resident of Timmins, Ontario and worked at Sally's Dress Shop for many years. PALMER, Evelyn G. (nee Loose) Evelyn G. Palmer (nee Loose) of Lethbridge, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008 at the age of 72 years. Evelyn is survived by her four sons Randy, Rick (Adelle), Jon and Jeff; five grandchildren Alyssa, Adam, Joshua, Mikaela and Erika; sister Carolyn Mehew of Del Bonita; sister-in-law Betty Loose of Magrath; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Evelyn's greatest gift was the ability to connect with both young and old. Whether she was known for a long time or a short time, those who knew her valued her loving nature and sense of humor. NYBERG, Evelyn Ruby Was born on June 29, 1913 in Alexandria, Scotland and passed away on July 31, 2008 in Gateby Intermediate Care Residence, Vernon, BC, having reached the age of 95 years. Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by two sisters-in-law, Noeline McLetchie of Vernon, B.C. and Aileen McLetchie of Gilford, New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews in Canada, the USA, England and Scotland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Nyberg and four brothers, David McLetchie, Leslie McLetchie, Norman McLetchie and Charles McLetchie. Evelyn was a Public Health Nurse in Scotland prior to coming to Canada in 1961. She continued on in her chosen career, working as a Public Health Supervisor in Calgary for fifteen years. In 1976 she moved to Vernon where she was very active in community organizations such as the Sons Of Scotland, the Coldstream Women's Institute and Trinity United Church where she loved singing in the church choir. Cremation preceded a Celebration of Evelyn's Life which will be held at Trinity United Church in Vernon on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Mrs. Sheila Odney officiating. Evelyn was a great lover of animals so as an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in her memory to the SPCA. MUNDELL, David Edward David Edward Mundell has bid his final "Tally-ho!" He will be dearly missed by all his children, Geoff, Brian, Gary, and Susan, his grandchildren, family and numerous friends. Most of all he leaves behind his best friend and wife, Mary Catherine Mundell (nee Devlin). Dave is predeceased by his sister Harriette Cays. Dave, or "Doc", as he was well known, kept up his spirits and his wonderful wit right to the very end. Born in Niagara Falls on Dec. 24th, 1927, he attended university in Buffalo, married the love of his life in 1953, worked for the Federal Government of Canada in Ottawa for many years and retired in Ancaster. He lived life to the fullest, skiing, biking, skating, golfing and travelling. He died on July 30th at St. Peter's Hospital. Madame Penelope "Penny” Anne Baudinet (née Pasmore) (1937-2008) Nous a quittés sereinement, le vendredi 1er août, après une longue bataille contre le cancer. Elle était entourée de sa famille dans leur résidence de campagne Ufton Court dans les Cantons de l'Est. Elle laisse dans le deuil son tendre époux et meilleur ami, Jean Claude Baudinet, après 44 ans de vie commune, ainsi que ses quatre enfants, Charles (Renée), Béatrice (Gunther), Barbara et Caroline (William). Affectueusement surnommée "Nanou”, Penny avait treize petits-enfants: Tristan, Nastasia, Daphné, Bianca et Latisha Pungartnik; Laurence, Christophe et Jacqueline Baudinet; Samantha et Eric Molnar; et Isabella, Alexandra et Emma Stumpf. Penny était la fille de feu Hubert Martyn Pasmore et de Béatrice Molson. Elle laisse également dans le deuil sa soeur Pamela Stirling et son frère Godfrey Pasmore, ses demie-soeurs Cynthia Baxter et Deirdre Stevenson ainsi que ses demi-frères Eric et Stephen Molson. Dotée d'un éternel optimisme et d'une énergie sans borne, Penny a consacré temps et efforts à titre bénévole à l'occasion de multiples activités philantropiques, notamment avec la Ligue Junior de Montréal, Centraide, le Musée McCord, le Memphremagog Conservation Inc et la Fondation Butters. Penny croyait fermement en la nécessité de redonner à la communauté et poursuivait de façon infatiguable des objectifs de levée de fonds toujours plus audacieux. Son approche directe, sa persévérance ainsi que son charme irresistible étaient légendaires auprès de ses nombreux amis et ceux qui l'aimaient tendrement. Issue d'une famille anglaise très connue de Montréal, Penny a embrassé la langue et la culture française à l'occasion de son marriage avec Jean Claude Baudinet, lui-même natif de Paris, France. Que ce soit au cours de ses nombreuses activités familiales ou sociales, Penny a toujours continué à parler français avec ce délicieux accent qui la caractérisait si bien. Elle disait d'ailleurs avec une pointe d'humour: "Mais je suis très française”. Penny était une amoureuse de la vie, démontrant une résilience et un désir de vivre à fond malgré son long combat contre le cancer. Elle a partagé cet amour inconditionnel de sa famille immédiate au cours d'un dernier voyage avec eux, en Turquie en juin dernier. Lors de ce séjour, Penny aura été une source d'inspiration et d'enseignement par ses démonstrations d'amour et de douceur à l'égard de tous ses proches, de qui elle puisait sa force et ce, jusqu'à ses tout derniers moments. Nous remercions infiniment le Dr. Jean Roy, chef de service en hématologie, à l'Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, le service d'hémato-oncologie ainsi que toute l'équipe de médecins, infirmiers et infirmières, pour leur attachement et les soins qu'ils lui ont prodigué jusqu'à sa dernière décennie. Alice Welch (née Prince) died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness, with her husband, son and daughter-in-law at her side, on July 22, 2008. She was predeceased by children Joseph, Audrey, Micheal and Christina; grandson Jason; a son-in-law, Peter; parents Nelson and Audrey Prince; a sister, Eleanor, and a brother, Bill. Mrs. Welch was the precious spouse and loving wife of 57 years to Charles. She is survived by children Charles, Thomas, Laura (husband Roger) , Kathleen, Steven (wife Linda) , Lenard, Lily (husband Yvan) and Kelly (wife Bonnie) . She is also survived by grandchildren Ralph (wife Pam) , Sharon, Charles (wife Jody) , Heather, Peter, Joseph, Amber (husband Bruce) , Samuel, Kevin, Jeffery and Sean, and great-grandchildren Alicia, Zoe, Kailey, Adianna and Bruce Jr. Mrs. Welch is also survived by brothers Tom, Ron (wife Margot) , George (wife Verna) and Fred (wife Eileen) ; sister, Susan; and by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Welch was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, paint, camp and pamper her cat Corky. She will be remembered for her great love and devotion to her family. She was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Englehart. Funeral arrangements were by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart. The funeral service was conducted by Lionel Anyan from the Englehart Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 25. Pallbearers were Kelly Welch, Ralph Welch, Samuel Gingras, Yvan Gingras, and Peter and Joseph Umbrasas. Burial was at Englehart cemetery. Relatives and family attended from London, St. Thomas, North Bay, Timmins, and the surrounding Tri-Town area. The family extends special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Englehart and District Hospital and to the home caregivers for the compassionate care given.

Larry David Scales passed away peacefully at South Lake Regional Hospital, Newmarket on Sunday, July 20, 2008 in his 69 year. Beloved husband of Bonnie (nee Blue); loving father of Suzanne (Jeff), Debbie (Brad) and Julie (Richard); cherished papa of Paul, Jenna, Melissa, Melanie, Ryan and Tyler; great-grandfather of Chantelle, Perrin and Hannah. Larry will be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Sherry (Bruce) McLeish, Heather (Andy) Grant and mother-in-law Erma Blue; his nieces, nephews and his many friends. “Safely Home: I am home in Heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! BISIGNANO, Giuseppe “Joe” 2008-08-02 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Family of Giuseppe “JOE” Bisignano announces his passing on Thursday July 31, 2008, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born in Luzzi Cosenza Italy on November 10, 1946. After arriving in Canada with his family, Joe found Thunder Bay to be where he would build his life. Joe was going on his 40th year working at Dominion Motors, where he spent the bulk of his years as an Auto Body Painter. In the recent years he drove as a Parts Delivery for them, where he enjoyed dealing and conversing with people daily. He enjoyed and had a love for gardening, where he was known for his hot peppers. You could always count on him having one hidden away in his pockets. His love of people brought him joy. He enjoyed being around his family, relatives and many friends. He was a member of the Gran Sasso Club, which brought him to festivities across town, where socializing with the people of Thunder Bay put a smile on his face. Joe will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years, Emilia (Chiappetta). And his children, Gina (Gordon) Vigliarolo, Emilio, Steven and Lisa. His grandchildren Kiana, Bella, Steve, and Joey. He is survived by his parents Emilio and Girarda Bisignano. His brothers Frank (Josie), Aldo (Pauline), Egidio (Diane), Pio (Wendy), Tony (Sherri-Lyn), Sam and his sister Anna. And his numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. . Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in St. Dominic’s Church at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lapolla c.s. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be offered on Monday, evening at 7:00 p.m. in St. Dominic’s Church. If friends desire, memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated. The family would like to Thank the staff of TBRHC, nurses and doctors of section 1A for their compassion and kindness during his brief stay with them, they ensured we were all taken care of. BROWNE, Islay Robertson (nee Gray) May 7, 1920 - July 30, 2008 Islay Robertson Browne, beloved mother, grandmother, and loyal friend, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Islay was born May 7, 1920 in Winnipeg, MB, a daughter of David Moffat and Margaret Jane Gray. In her youth, Islay found school a breeze and sailed through her grades with honours. Her pastimes included playing baseball and she enjoyed competing in track and field events, becoming a hurdles and high jump champion. Islay also became an accomplished pianist and her keyboarding skills later found her a typist's job at a Winnipeg law office. Across the years, Islay would keep in contact with distant family and friends by means of her treasured typewriter. On October 16, 1943, Islay married Robert Gordon Browne, whom she had met on a ski trip. The pair skied into their fifties and were cruise ship enthusiasts into their eighties. Islay was a keen bridge strategist and remained a formidable Scrabble opponent all her life. Islay tirelessly gave of herself to her family. She had an optimistic disposition and uplifted everyone around her with kind words and gestures. Islay is survived by her loving children and their spouses, David (Colleen), Margaret (Gordon) Burrell, Gary (Dawn), Nancy (Randy) Matthews, all of Calgary, and Dan (Colleen) of Budapest. She will also be missed by her beloved grandchildren, Steven (Jen), Ryan, Ian, and Nathaniel. Islay was predeceased by her cherished husband Robert and her dear brother Corbett Gray. LOZADA, Maria Antonia At McGarrell Place on July 31, 2008, Maria Antonia Lozada in her 82nd year. She will be forever missed by her "piece of gold", daughter, Denise Lozada. Dear sister of Sebastian, Felisa and Virginia all of Colombia. Maria was a lady with a deep love of family and animals as well as an unshakeable sense of humour and honour. She was a loving and caring mother. SMITH, Margaret April 27, 1905 - July 21, 2008 Margaret Smith was born in Wigan, Lancaster, England April 27, 1905. She came to Canada with her parents, John Robert and Rebecca Mason, settling in Winnipeg, Man. She married Alexander R. (Sandy) Smith on June 2, 1927. Pioneers of St. Marks, Man., they ranched, ran the post office and boarded the school teachers for many years. They were always very involved in the community and enjoyed serving others. They moved to Moose Jaw, Sask., January 1, 1950, where her husband was employed by the P.F.R.A. In Moose Jaw, Margaret was involved with several organizations, including the Pioneer Choir. She was a resident of Moose Jaw until December 2000 when she moved to Calgary, Alberta to live with her daughter Bertha. She resided at Trinity Lodge, Calgary, from November 2006 to April 2008. She passed away at Sarcee CareWest, July 21, 2008. She was predeceased by her parents, John Robert (Vimy Ridge) and Rebecca Mason; four sisters, Winoma, Ann, Rebecca and Regina; two brothers, John Robert and Albert Mason; her husband, Sandy Smith, July 1983 and grandson, Brett Warner, May 2002. She leaves to mourn, her daughter Bertha Joyce (Bunny) Warner; grandson, Jeff Warner (Kelley); four great-grandchildren, Kristen Clarke (Tom), Bryce, Sean and Trevor Warner; granddaughters, Shelley Desjardins (Sylvain), Lori Warner (Greg Reynard); great-grandson, Tristen Reynard all of Calgary; niece, Pat Henderson (Ross) of Canoe, B.C., Linda (Allen) Wright, Deborah Smith, and Winona (George) Otsuji and nephew, Grant (Linda) Smith, all of Portage la Prairie and Faye Boyce of Winnipeg. Margaret was a very happy and optimistic person, though not unaware of sorrow and sensitive to the feelings of others. She was always revered by her family, who gave her great joy. She enjoyed her last years in Calgary because she saw her family often and visited with her friends at St. Stephen's Anglican Church. Those who knew her will miss her unconditional love, positive attitude, quick wit and thoughtful counsel. Margaret truly inspired all who met her. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers if you wish, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Margaret's name.
