COUTTS, Jean Campbell October 4, 1926 - July 14, 2008 Jean Campbell Coutts, beloved wife of Earle, of Calgary, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Jean graduated from Stanford C.I., in Niagara Falls, ON and entered Alma College, where she graduated as Class President in May, 1947. She was chosen "Queen of the May" (as reported in the London Free Press, May 24, 1947): "Jean Taylor was crowned May Queen, the highest honour that Alma College can bestow, determined by a vote by students and staff, as the girl who best exemplifies their ideal of all-around student." After she graduated as a dietician, she worked at McGill University and in Hamilton, ON. Jean and Earle were married in 1951 and lived in Toronto, where Earle was employed by Canada Malting Company and where their three children were born. When they transferred to Calgary in 1966, Jean joined and became very involved in the Calgary Winter Club. When Silver Springs Golf Course opened in 1971, she was a charter member and became involved over the next thirty years. Jean and Earle enjoyed many trips including numerous winter holidays in Florida, Mexico, Hawaii and California. This wonderful lady, who was loved by all who knew her and who had a wonderful sense of humour, will be sorely missed. She will always be an inspiration to her grandchildren. Besides her loving husband Earle, Jean is survived by her two sons Richard (Ric) Coutts (D.D.) and Rob Coutts (Sammee); grandchildren, Calyn, Alyssa and Jacqueline Coutts all of Calgary. Jean was predeceased by her daughter Carol Anne in 2006. CICCI, Violet Theresa (nee Narduzzi) - 1922-2008 - Passed away on Wednesday July 16, 2008 at the Timmins and District Hospital at the age of 85. Born September 14, 1922 in San Daniella del Fruili, Italia. She immigrated to Canada with her parents, Angelina and Quintino Narduzzi (both predeceased) as a toddler. She enjoyed volunteering and socializing in the community, having been the President of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Dante Club for many years. Also, her auxiliary work at the Timmins and District Hospital and the Golden Manor provided years of new relationships and rewarding accomplishments. Her grandchildren were her greatest source of joy. They all looked forward to spending time together during the summer months at Nonne and Nonno's camp. Playing cards kept them all busy during rainy days and would become very competitive. Violet is predeceased by her husband Michael (1994). She is survived by her children Bob (wife Ping) and Dolores (husband Fred Fortier); her grandchildren Michael, Danielle and Pearl Cicci, Carter, Krista and Andrew Fortier; her great- grandchildren Andrew, Jacob, Keenan and Chianti. She is also survived by her sister Elca (husband Mel Rennick) and her brother Euro, plus many devoted nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Alma and her brother-in-law Brundy. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday July 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery will follow. ELLIOTT, Emma After many good years on this earth, Aunt Emma's journey ended peacefully at the George Boyack Care Centre on July 15, 2008 at the age of 87. Emma was born July 28, 1920 in Mazenod, SK to parents Gottfried and Mary Krauss, homesteaders from Russia. Emma was one of fourteen and although she had no children of her own, she became a mother and grandmother to many. Emma was predeceased by two husbands Karl Larvick of Mazenod, SK (buried in Creston, BC) and James Elliott of Seattle, Washington; two infant sisters, her beloved sister Olga Barr; six brothers; her niece and loving goddaughter Marion (Barr) Firmston. Emma will be lovingly remembered by a special niece Marlene (Barr) Neff and a special nephew Jim (Judy) Barr, who were always close and supportive; as well as four brothers and their families, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Emma lived many years in the Mazenod area, later moving to BC and Seattle, where she married James Elliott. After the death of her husband Jim, Emma moved to Calgary in 1980 to be near her sister Olga and her family. Emma leaves behind many treasured memories in the hearts of many. ELLIS, Phyllis Margaret (nee Currie) January 1, 1922 - July 15, 2008 Phyllis Margaret Ellis (nee Currie), beloved wife of Bob of Calgary, previously of Hanna and Coronation, AB, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Agape Hospice, at the age of 86 years. Phyllis was born "Phyllis Currie" in Medicine Hat, AB on January 29, 1922. She moved to Coronation in 1929, where she met Robert Ellis and after he returned from overseas in 1945, they were married in Winnipeg. Returning to Coronation, they started a family of three. Phyllis was involved as a member of the St. David's United Church in Calgary. In past years, she was involved in the many aspects of the church and only recently discontinued working with the Communi Pastoral Care Committee. In Coronation and Hanna, prior to retiring to Calgary in 1987, Phyllis was heavily involved with her life-long friends, community and church. Everyone she met would be met with a smile and they would then leave with a smile in their hearts. Besides her loving husband Robert "Bob" Ellis, Phyllis is also survived by her children, Robert and Mary Ann Ellis of Sacramento, CA, Margaret Deegan and Tom and Joan Ellis, all of Calgary; her six grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Thomas of Ladner, BC. Phyllis was predeceased by her brother Robert "Bob" Currie. FORREST, Margaret Elizabeth (nee Csepe) January 1, 1932 - July 15, 2008 Margaret Elizabeth Forrest passed away peacefully with family on July 15, 2008, at the age of 76 years. Margaret was born in Drumheller, Alberta on January 1, 1932 to parents Steve and Amalia Csepe. A talented student and a devoted daughter, her early life was spent in Drumheller. Margaret was always a very caring person and as such she went into the profession of nursing. She graduated from the Holy Cross Nursing School and went on to become an emergency room nurse at the General Hospital. Margaret was married to Alex Forrest and together they had three children, Jim, Alex, and Shannon. Margaret took great pride in her children and always looked forward to their visits. Margaret's husband died in 1978 and she took on the challenges of looking after the house and raising her children with courage and determination. After suffering a stroke in 1998, Margaret was forced to leave her beloved acreage in Irricana, Alberta. The pain of having to relocate to an adult care facility was lessened by the fact that she was welcomed into the Bethany Care Home Family. She always enjoyed the company and care she received from the staff. Margaret will be greatly missed. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jim and his wife Deanna, Alex and wife Heather, and Shannon; grandchildren, Farran, Aftan, Lisa, Holly, William, Tyler, and Ryan. GIBBONS, Deborah (Staccie Tayler) On Sunday, July 13, 2008, Deborah died. She joins our parents and myriad of friends whom she loved, who predeceased her. She was born on July 7, 1951. Raised and schooled in British Columbia and Edmonton, Alberta, she came to Calgary in the 1990's, following the death of our parents. She worked as a graphic layout artist. She loved music, so she formed "Sienna Productions" and promoted and booked local musical talent. She was very active behind the scenes of Canada's music industry. She leaves to mourn her loss, two brothers, a nephew, a niece, and a very special friend: Doug and Irene Gibbons, their son and daughter, Tyler and Jade, of Edmonton; elder brother Terrence of Calgary; longtime good friend and caregiver Vivian Jones of Calgary; and one "Tatters" the cat. KENNY, Marie Gabrielle (nee Thibeault) November 11, 1929 - July 12, 2008 Marie Kenny passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, July 12, 2008. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Michael (Darrell), Bernard (Lynne), Cleave Jr. (Kori) and Bradley (Robin); nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her husband of fifty-seven years, Cleave and her son Wesley. Marie was born on November 11, 1929 in Montreal, Quebec. After sixteen years she moved to Calgary. While working at the Palliser Hotel, Marie met her husband Cleave and they were married in June of 1947. They had five sons to which she was a kind and loving mother. She was filled with love and kindness and it blessed the lives of those she knew. Marie will be greatly missed by all of her family. KNAPP, Lola May (nee Bateman) Our dear mother passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, in Lethbridge on Sunday, July 13, 2008 in her 89th year. Predeceased by husband Chester Lawrence (Bill) Knapp in 1996, brothers Robert, Glenn and Earl, and sister Vella Friend. Survived by brother Henry Bateman of Carmangay and sister Jean Bignell of Trail. Lovingly remembered by son Blaine (Carolyn (nee) Irwin) of Ottawa, daughter Karonne Maxwell of Vancouver and son Paul (JoAnne Collins) of Calgary, granddaughters Amanda Knapp of Duncan, Ashley Knapp of Ottawa and Sidney Knapp of Calgary, grandsons Michael Weld of Vancouver and Mitchell Knapp of Calgary, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends and former students. Lola and Bill farmed near Vulcan, Alberta, and Lola taught elementary at Brant and Vulcan Schools from 1956 to 1975. In 1980 they retired to Sooke, BC, and then returned to Lethbridge in 1990. At Lola's request, there will be no Service, and in keeping with her wishes, Cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank Community Care Nurse, Vanessa Freel and friend Marge Ormandy for their extensive support in the last few months. PICKELL, Louise Bernadette (nee Riddell) October 15, 1944 - July 16, 2008 Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and godmother Louise passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the age of 63 years, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. "Lou Lou" had a strong heart and an iron will. Bob and Louise celebrated over forty years of marriage together, including travelling the world, going to the lake, and spending quality time with their family. She is truly an inspiration to all who knew her. Louise will be sadly missed by her devoted husband Bob; sons and daughters-in-law, Rob and Sandra, Doug and Michelle and Jeff and Lisa. She adored and constantly praised her five grandchildren, Cole (seven), Caden (four), Marisa (nine), Daryana (seven), and Jakob (five). They all love her very much and will honour her memory always. WARE, Audrey Verna (McAninch) - Passed away peacefully at GNGH on June 27, 2008 at age 93. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Arnold (1990). Survived by her sister Dolores (Alex) McCormack of Thornhill. Predeceased by brother Ashley McAninch, sister June Garrett and Mazie McAninch. Cherished mother of Ron (deceased 1999), Dennis (Dorothy) of Guelph, Verna (Jim) Craig of Niagara Falls. Audrey will be sadly missed by grandchildren. Laureen Ware, Susan Untch, Andrea Cook, Catharine Craig, Alicia Smith, Jennifer Blakely, and by her great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Audrey was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, and an active member of the Community of Christ, serving as Women's Director, church School Director, and choir member. As well as being a devoted mother and homemaker, she volunteered with Maple Street Home and School Association, Local Council of Women, Dorchester Manor, and the Conservative Party of Canada. She enjoyed line dancing, Tai Chi, Yoga and playing the piano. There will be a memorial service celebrating her life on Saturday July 26, 2:30 p.m., at the Community of Christ, 4865 Saint. BARACETTI, Oliva - passed away at the Extended Care Unit of the Welland Hospital on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 in her 101st year. Beloved mother of Mary Kuhar (Louis), Enrico Baracetti and Valentino Baracetti (Santina). Loving grandmother of Enrico, Michael, Laura and Lynda Baracetti and Anna, Stefan and Eric Kuhar. She will be lovingly remembered by her 12 great grandchildren and family in Italy and Argentina. Predeceased by her husband Davide, daughter-in-law Janet, sister Giovanna in Italy and brothers Giovanni and Dalio and sister Regina in Argentina. Oliva was born in Rivolto, Codroipo, Friuli, Italy and came to Canada with her 3 children to join her husband in 1949. Oliva was a member of Fogolar Furlan of Niagara and a former member of the St. Mary's CWL. She enjoyed spending her time gardening, knitting, playing bingo and socializing with others. Oliva will be remembered as a dear friend who always had time for everyone. To her family and friends she is an icon that will be missed and a legend that will forever be remembered. The family received their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Vigil was held on Friday at 2 o'clock. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at The Parish Community of St. Kevin on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Rite of Committal followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.
