MacINNIS, Heather (nee Walker). Passed away July 14, 2008 at the Lakeshore General Hospital after a short bout with cancer. Wife of the late Donald MacInnis, survived by daughter Bobbi-Jean and grandson Skylar, and by siblings Stewart (Mary), Doreen (Fred), Jack (the late Shirley) and Gord (Ellen). In lieu of flowers, she would like everyone to sign their donor cards or make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. BELL, Phillip Saul June 27, 1927 - July 13, 2008 Phillip Saul Bell, passed away peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Saul and his wife Margaret owned and operated a successful nightclub called, "City Limits Restaurant and Bar" along with their two daughters. Saul was a very kind man who gave his time and advice to everyone and was a father figure to everyone who knew him. Loving father of Lisa Wowchuk and Jaqueline Bell of Calgary; father-in-law of James Wowchuk and Kristopher Wareing of Calgary; loving grandfather of Melanie and Christopher Wowchuk. Mr. Bell was predeceased by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Margaret Ann Bell in 1997, brother Benn Bell, father Phillip Bell and mother Rose Bell. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him including his precious dogs, Chiclet, Tiny, Lucky, and Molly. HONDERICH, Maxine Marjorie (nee Arden/Thomas) Maxine was born March 12, 1926 and passed away peacefully on July 12, 2008. LEONARD, Rose Mary December 13, 1916 - July 15, 2008 Rose Mary Leonard of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Rose was born in Waldeck, SK and resided in Saskatchewan until moving to Calgary when she was a young woman. Rose and her husband Jim operated the Three Sisters Esso Service Station and Restaurant. Rose also worked as a cook at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 264, as well as other food service establishments. Rose is survived by four sisters, Clara Brandick of Regina, SK, Betty Jones of Vancouver, BC, and Leona Wurst and Eleanor Kelly of Calgary. She is also survived by three nieces, Sheila Brandick, Cheryl Girardi and Debbie Shaw; and one nephew Dave Poulsen. Rose was predeceased by her husband Jim and her parents David and Mary Gerlach. SWANSON, Sandra Joan April 11, 1956 - July 12, 2008 After inspiring everyone she met, Sandy's celebration of life came to a peaceful conclusion on Saturday, July 12, 2008. Her infectious smile and passion for life will be dearly missed by all of those lucky enough to have had her in their lives. HARRISON, Dr. A. Geoffrey, DFC - Geoffrey Harrison died peacefully in Toronto on July 9th, 2008. He was the cherished husband of Margaret, the dearly loved father of Jane and Mark and adoring grandfather of Jordan and Rachel. He will also be missed by his daughter-in-law Jennifer and by Dr. Robert Sanderson, who have provided comfort and steadfast support through this difficult time. Geoff was born in West Yorkshire and was of a generation that did extraordinary deeds for the good of others. He served with honour and distinction in Nos. 57 and 83 Squadrons of the Royal Air Force. He was mentioned in dispatches for his bravery with the Pathfinder Force and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, Geoff was interested in becoming either an architect or a doctor. He chose medicine and graduated from St. Thomas' Hospital Medical School in London. Most of his career was spent as a general practitioner in Port Hope, Ontario. There, he delivered hundreds of children into this world, aided the sick with dignity and enriched the lives of all he knew. She always enjoyed the contact with young people that teaching provided, as well as the opportunity to mentor new teachers and female teachers progressing to Vice Principal, Principal, and other administrative positions. BENSON, Thomas William Thomas William Benson passed away at the Palliative Care Unit of the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on July 1, 2008. Tom was born and lived most of his 58 years in Charlottetown, P.E.I. In the last eight years, Tom lived in Oromocto, N.B., Field, Ont., and Halifax, N.S. Tom is survived by his son, Jeff, daughter-in-law Jill Saunders, grandson Alex (Vancouver, B.C.) and his sister Wanda MacLean (Charlottetown). Joyce P. Robins 1928 - 2008 Joyce P. Robins, of Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the age of 80 years. Born in Bathurst, NB, she was the daughter of the late Langton and Pauline (Blanchard) Cutler. Joyce had a cottage in Pointe de Chene for 48 years and enjoyed spending numerous summers there with her family and friends. She attended St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by two sons, Peter (Linda) Robins and Ben Robins all of Moncton; daughter-in-law, Edwina Robins of NL; sister, Mary Dionne of PQ; brothers, Langton (Alice) Dysart, Irishtown, Joe (Eileen) Dysart, ON, Hughie Dysart, NB, Pat Dysart Irishtown; Grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrea Robins; and Sister-in-Law, Shirley Dysart; and several nieces and nephews. BANTING, Dr. Ronald William - Suddenly, on Tuesday July 15, 2008 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 60 years. Husband of Carole Banting. Loving father of Amie Banting and her fiancée Paul Jack and Adam Banting all of Niagara Falls. Dear brother of Nelson Banting (Loretta), Robert Banting (Trudi) and Diane Tedesco (Ralph). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Dr. Banting was a very well known and respected dentist in our community. He was a member of the Niagara Falls Badminton Club, Niagara Falls Lawn Bowling Club and the Miami Eight Golf Club. He was proud of being the great-great nephew of Sir Frederick Grant Banting, who was a Canadian medical scientist, doctor and Nobel laureate noted as one of the co- discovers of insulin. Dr. Banting was passionate about a lot of things, however, nothing greater than his children, his cottage, his love of golf and his dogs. He will rest with his late dog and dear friend “Charlie“ and he will be missed by his best friend “Buffy“. At Dr. Banting's personal request, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial visitation to be held at St. Andrew's United Church, on Morrison St. on Wednesday July 16th from 6 - 8 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held in the church on Thursday July 17th at 1 p.m. (Visiting 12- 1 p.m.). Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. O'BRIEN, Joyce Iris - (Royal Canadian Legion Branch #72, Pembroke) - peacefully in hospital, Ottawa with her family in attendance, on Monday, July 14th, 2008 in her 84th year. Joyce O'Brien (nee Davidson) of Pembroke, beloved wife of the late Harry O'Brien. Predeceased by her daughter Marsha Lynn, her parents Robert and Clara Davidson of Beachburg, baby sister Reta, brothers Hedley Robert Davidson (late Stella), and Adelbert Davidson (late Pat). Loving mother of Terry (Sherry), Kevin and Mardi Lee and grandmother of Brad (Marlene) and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Joyce was a talented cook and spent her career as a caterer at Fellowes H.S., Thee Place and the Canadian Legion. She was a life-long member of the Canadian Legion having served in many capacities including President of the Women's Branch. She was the recipient of the 2001 Volunteer Service Award from the Province of Ontario, the Millennium Appreciation Award for contributions to the Community from the City of Pembroke, and the Royal Canadian Legion's Meritorious Service Plague. Joyce enjoyed playing cards, curling, bowling and traveling. She was a gentle and caring lady who will be missed by those who knew her. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers from CCAC in Pembroke, the Mulvihill Family and Staff, and the staffs of the Pembroke Regional Hospital and the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their care in the treatment of Joyce to make her passing comfortable and dignified. HUGHES, MARGARET S. - The death of Margaret S. Hughes of Summerville, NB, wife of the late Edward Hughes, occurred after a brief illness, on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax on August 10, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Florence (Morash) Evans. Margaret will be sadly missed by her daughter, Cathy (Robert) Currin of Summerville; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher; several cousins in Montreal and two nephews, Dwight Hughes and James McAllister. GRAVES, Agnes Margaret 2008-07-15 Agnes passed away July 10, 2008 at St. Joseph‘s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Her family was by her side. She was born on July 21, 1925 in Fort William to Margaret and George Graves. Agnes was born and lived in Westfort for her entire life. She enjoyed riding the bus and walking throughout Thunder Bay. Educated at Heath Park School and FWCI, she was employed as an accountant with various local firms, most notably Blacks Accounting and ending with Alfred Petrone‘s law firm. Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her sister Doris (Arthur) Chepil, brother George (Lauretta) Graves; nieces/nephews: Sandy (Peter) Burkhardt, Artie Chepil (Elaine), Susan (Lloyd) Hanton, Lorie Buitenhuis (Brian), Darlene Chepil (Terry) Reid; grand nieces/nephews: Katie and Keith (Jacquie) Burkhardt; Jason Buitenhuis and Wendi (James) Cameron; Kyla, Mark and Drew Reid; Melody and Violet Chepil; great grandnieces/nephew: Caitlin and Jamie Cameron, Julia Burkhardt. Auntie Aggie was the family‘s most dedicated fan at numerous baseball/hockey games and music concerts. She never missed a graduation, performance or athletic event. Her hands were busy knitting, baking and praying for family and friends. Always an ardent reader, she enjoyed all the local libraries. Cremation has taken place. A memorial tea will be held August 6, 2008 from 2-4 at West Thunder Community Center. Donations in Agnes‘ memory may be made to St. Joseph‘s Hospital or a charity of your choice. George was born on October 10, 1926 at Cavell, ON, relocated to Aroland, ON, where he met the love of his life Alice Mendowegan and married her and started their journey as one over the course of 55 years together as they became proud parents of 13 children. George will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife Alice, 4 daughters, Dorothy (Ray), Bella (Sonny), Esther (Godfrey) and Lucy, 5 sons, Henry (Linda), Sam (Sally), Gabriel (Vanessa), Dominic (Candace), and Quentin (Stephanie), 30 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Emily Meshake (Leonard), Emma Towedo and numerous nieces and nephews. George is predeceased with his daughter Beatrice Kashkeesh and sons Morris Kashkeesh, Raymond Kashkeesh, Michael Kashkeesh, and siblings Martha Kashkeesh and Albert Kashkeesh and both parents John & Janette Kashkeesh.
