MALONEY, Sr. Helen (Sister Mary Celestine) - of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul died on July 13, 2008 at Providence Motherhouse, Kingston. Born in Mount St. Patrick, Ontario, on August 2, 1926 Sister Helen is predeceased by her parents John and Margaret (McDonald) and her brothers, Michael, James, Harold and Donald and her sisters, Jean Brady and Teresa Gendron. Sister is survived by her brother, Frank (Pat) of Napanee, Ontario, and sister, Mary Mahoney (Rowan) of Low, Quebec. She will be fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends, and by the members of her religious congregation. CLARKE, David “Tait“ Elliott - At Parkwood Hospital in London on Monday, July 14, 2008, Tait died at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Ilene. ZOBATAR, Robert (Rob) Harold 2008-07-15 August 28, 1950 ~ July 11, 2008 Mr. Robert (Rob) Zobatar, age 57 years of Queen‘s Road, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 10, 2008. Rob was born in Port Arthur on August 28, 1950, the eldest of five siblings. He attended Shuniah and C.D. Howe Public Schools and graduated from Hammerskjold High School. He worked for the MNR in Ignace, apprenticed and earned his “ticket” as a Heavy Machinery Mechanic. Rob was employed by (then known as) Great Lakes Paper, Woodlands Division as a Heavy Machinery Mechanic. He later he started his own business as an independent truck owner/operator, contracting his services of hauling saw-logs and pulpwood for local forestry companies. Rob loved tending to the hayfields at the farm as well as his love for his truck, and he particularly enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow truckers. He enjoyed all the trips south watching his brother-in-law, Tom Nesbitt in dirt track racing, was an accomplished carpenter, member of the Ignace Legion, and when the children were young, Rob especially enjoyed taking them camping and fishing. Rob is survived by his wife Carolyn Anderson, his children: Robert, Christopher, Jodi and their mother Georgette; grandchildren: Kyra and Braedon; parents Mel and Joyce Zobatar; siblings: Brent (Joanne), Greg (Annamarie), Tracey (Robert) Slater, Krista (Carl) Tallon; and sister-in-law Darlene (Tom) Nesbitt. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service for the late Robert Zobatar will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17th, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ivany. Ashes to be scattered on the O‘Connor Farm on Friday, July 18, 2008 after 6 p.m., everyone welcome. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rob‘s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.

HEGGIE, Dr. Robert (Bob) Murray B.Sc., Ph.D., FRIC, MCIC (1927-2008) Passed away with dignity at the age of 81 on Sunday, July 13, 2008, after a brief illness. Beloved husband of 57 years to Norah and loved father of Sheila (Jean-Claude Ouellette), Murray (Pat Gorham) of Halifax, Caroline (Arlen Bonesky) of New Westminster and Robert (Jody) of Calgary. Cherished grandfather of Jean-Robert; Alexander and Clare; Alicea and David; and Kelsey and Jamie. After obtaining a Ph.D. in chemistry from Glasgow University, Bob and his wife Norah emigrated to Canada in 1951 as Bob had accepted a postdoctoral fellowship with the National Research Council in Ottawa. Bob accepted two other research fellowships before joining the Defence Research Board in 1955. During his career of 35 years with the Defence Research Board, Bob was the Chief of the Defence Research Establishments in Suffield, Downsview and Shirley's Bay as well as the Associate Chief of Research and Development at Headquarters in Ottawa. After retirement, Bob devoted his time to his gardens at home and the cottage at Blue Sea Lake and planning travels across Canada and the United States as well as to New Zealand, Norway, Scotland and on the Danube River. At fifteen years of age on August 25, 1919, she married Luigi DiBattista, who was born in 1894 and passed away in 1954. She leaves to mourn her sister, Rose Paxton, the late Pauline Lalonde, and her late brothers Nicola Folino and Ferdinand Tucci. She had ten children: Antonina (James Doyle), the late Maria Grazia (Alcide Paiella), the late Iolanda, (the late Sandy Pane), Cesidio (Phyllis Gordon & the late Vittoria Ciccanti), the late Domenico, (the late Claudette Duquet), the late Amber, (the late Henry Gahler), the late Maria F. (died at 17 months in 1928), the late Elena, (the late Roger Desforges), Vittorio, (Georgette Roy), Pauline (Marcel Carignan). She had many grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Ken will always be loved and remembered by his wife of fifty-three years, Clara; his daughters Lori and son-in-law John, Debbie and son-in-law Richard; his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Roxanne; his grandchildren Michael Stewart (Brandee), Brett McNabb (Krista), Craig Stewart, Rob Stewart (Krista), Scott McNabb (Lindsay), April and Cody Lapointe; his great-grandchildren Michael, Taryn and Deija and friends and family throughout Alberta and Manitoba. TORODE, Elizabeth (Betty) Walker (nee Roberts) July 13, 1927 - July 13, 2008 Betty Torode passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Betty was born in Ardrossan, Scotland and later moved to Montreal, QC and settled in Calgary. She married the love of her life, Art and joined "oil wives". Fifty years later she has many wonderful friends. A long-lasting source of pleasure for Betty was her many "bridge pals". Their home was always open to friends and family and their perfect spot on the lake was a great source of pride and pleasure. Betty's love of friendship, love of children, and hospitality will be missed by all those she touched. JONES, RONALD R. - (78); passed away at his residence at North Head Grand Manan Island Monday July 14, 2008. Born at Grand Harbour he was the son of the late Robert and Estella (Green) Jones. Ronnie as he was known by his many friends served his community as a Village Councilor in North Head, worked as a fisherman, operated heavy equipment, drove tractor trailers, and later in his working life was an agent for a courier service on Grand Manan Island until his failing health could no longer allow him to work. For many years he could often be seen sitting in the early evening in front of his home enjoying the company of his family and would greet passers by with big smile and wave and could always make time for a visit for anyone who wanted to stay awhile. He will always be remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. Survived by his wife Mary (Lambert), and his five daughters; Judith Dow (Rodney), Vicki, Rhonda Boynton (Kevin), Angela, and Linda Markee (James) all of Grand Manan Island. One brother Harvard (Glenna) of Fredericton, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grand child Brayden Markee. Visiting hours will take place at Ells Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the Church of the Ascension on Thursday July 17th, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Captain Dana Dean officiating. MARICH, GERALDINE "JERRY" MAE - Jerry Marich, wife of the late George Marich, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, July 13th, 2008, at age 88. She was born at home in Glassville, NB, on December 3rd, 1919, daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie (Lamont) McIntosh. Jerry is survived by two daughters, Jane Macey (Bob) of Columbia, South Carolina and Sue Melvin (Blair) of Rothesay; one sister, Joyce Stuart (David) of Ottawa, ON; one aunt, Marion Spence of Juniper, NB; five grandchildren, J.J. Hafford (Jessica), Jeff Hafford, Amy Cross (Ken), Andrea Stoodley (Justin) and Melissa Candy (Lucas); two great-granddaughters, Madison and Naomi Hafford; nieces and nephews. Jerry lived most of her life in Bristol, NB, with her husband George. They owned a GM Dealership, where she did meticulous bookkeeping and spent their spare time horseback riding, at their cottage or traveling all over the globe. Jerry had a wonderful life and loved God and her family passionately. MUNZ, Gwen 2008-07-15 1941-2008 It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that this announcement be made of the passing of Gwen Munz, on July 5, 2008, at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 67. She is survived by her two sons Marc (Emma) Shwaluk and Douglas Shwaluk; grandchildren Jessica, Vanessa, and Nicole Shwaluk; brother Clayton Munz; nieces Robin Couronne and Melody Munz; also many relatives and friends. Gwen is predeceased by her mother Evelyn Golfman (Joeseph Golfman), and father Frederick Munz. Gwen worked for many years as a nurse at Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. Gwen had great compassion for her clients and always made time for her friends and neighbours over a cup of coffee. Though not retired, she had time for the many enjoyments in her life. She enjoyed gardening and doing various projects at her house. She loved fishing and camping with her friends and family in Thunder Bay. Also, much happiness was brought to her through her love for her dogs. Gwen was a woman who lived her life to the fullest with the biggest spirit. Win was a previous "Pioneer Kate" and was very proud of her community. She was a retired employee of CFB Gagetown with her last position being at the Language School. Eugene H. Tower (Junior) 1944 - 2008 Sackville, N.B.- Eugene (Junior) Tower, age 64, of Frosty Hollow, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sackville, N.B. on July 12, 1944, he was the son of the late Eugene and May (Briggs) Tower of Rockport, N.B. Eugene worked in construction most of his life, later going into the logging business. He loved being with his family and friends, fishing, hunting and going to bingo. Eugene will be sadly missed by his wife of 40 years, Barbara (Arseneault); his four sons, Daniel (Eva), Rodney (Katie), Wade (Jennifer) and Jason (Arlene); seven grandchildren, Joseph, Kyle, Nathan, Emily, Lindsey, Daniel and Andrew, all of whom he adored; sister Pat (Pansy)(Marvin) Goodwin of Hamilton, Ont.; brother Gaius of Hamilton, Ont.; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and his special friend Baxter. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ivy, Violet, Helen, May, Bernice and Ethel and brothers, Wilbur, George and Winston. MACKINNON, Glen Wallace - passed comfortably at home on July 12th, 2008 in the care of his family. Glen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; children, Joan Paterson (Greg) of Nanaimo, Ken (Claudette) of Barrie, Ontario, Gordon (Catie Racioppa) of Nanaimo and Kathleen Wallace of Kelowna; and eleven grandchildren, Jaimie, Cameron and Bradley Paterson Ashlee Tarabawka; Ryan and Travis Sandos; Lucas and Megan Mackinnon, Kendra Norwood; and Joanne Fleming and Stephen Fuhr; and one great grandson, Justin Fuhr of Victoria. Since retiring from construction in Nanaimo, Glen devoted his time and energy to serving others, being most active in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 257 in Lantzville. He received the Queen's Jubilee Medal for his service in the Legion as well as being given a life membership. Glen also served as a member of the Citizens' Council on Electoral Reform in BC. Dad will be most missed for his words of wit and wisdom around the campfire, pool table or wherever he may be . . . A brief service will be held at St. Philip's-by-the-Sea in Lantzville on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 1 PM, followed by a reception at the Lantzville Legion.
