KERMODE, Douglas George September 22, 1926 - June 7, 2008 Douglas George Kermode passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary at the age of 81 on June 7, 2008. Doug had fought a long and difficult battle with lung disease. Doug is survived by his only brother Richard of Seba Beach; six children, Laurie near Whitecourt, Douglas Jr. of Calgary, Rod of Edmonton, Shelley of Calgary, Valerie of St. Albert and Candace of Calgary (formerly of Prince George); six grandchildren, Rhonda, Chad, Jason, Shane, Hannah, also Kimberly (Merkel). Doug had two great-grandchildren: Gavin and Jacob. He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey in 1993 and his second wife, Rose in 1988. Doug retired after a long and rewarding forty-two year career with Air Canada in 1990. Alvina Arsenault 1920-2008 `A l'Hôpital régional Dr-Georges-L-Dumont de Moncton, le mardi 10 juin 2008, à l'àge de 87 ans, est décédée Alvina Arsenault, domiciliée à la Villa Providence, mais autrefois de la rue Chesley à Shédiac. Née le 12 octobre 1920 à Shédiac, elle était fille de feu Dominique et Anna (O'Brien) Arsenault. Elle a travaillée au dépanneur Louis Taxi de Shédiac avant sa retraite. Elle aimait jouer au Bingo et aux cartes. Elle laisse dans le deuil son fils Gary Arsenault (Jacqueline) de Toronto, ON, un petit-fils Émile Arsenault (Janice) et deux arrière-petites-filles spéciaux: Venessa et Stéphanie tous de Shédiac; ses trois soeurs: Corinne Webb de Dorchester, Doris Arsenault de Shédiac, Géraldine Ward de Montréal, QC; un frère Edgar Arsenault de Val Cartier, QC, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. BEST, JOYCE G. 1937 - 2008 NewCastle Bridge, N.B. A special life... A unique lady... Wonderful memories. Joyce G. Best took the journey home in Strathmore, Alberta on January 9, 2008. She was predeceased by Mae and Russell Best, mother and father, Garnet Best, brother. She is survived by her brothers Russell and William Best, both of Minto, sisters Ivy Cunningham of Arizona, Vaughna MacBeth of Minto, Judith Best of Alberta, bother-in-law Richard MacBeth of Minto, sisters-in-law Lena Best of Alberta, Glenna Best and Eleanor Best of Minto, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, her best friend Claudette Beaulieu and her second family the Beaulieu's of Quebec and Alberta. Her arrival in heaven was greeted with much joy and happiness. Even though we dearly miss her we are comforted in knowing that she is filled with much peace and love. Her time with us left many in admiration of her ventures in life. Known as an avid sports enthusiast she was skilled in softball, basketball, and numerous other sports. Her opponents found it hard to overcome her talents in this area. As she grew older she came to love camping and travelling adventures. Joyce's professional life started out working at the Avon Coal Company in Minto, then as a teacher in Andover, then as Air Force Police in the Air Force which eventually led her to the Ottawa Police Department as a policewoman. What a stunning picture it was to see her in uniform. When she moved out west she became involved with managing the Calgary Female Remand Center and later was in charge of the Female Section at the Alberta Provincial Jail until her retirement in 1995. What any of us will miss most is her tenderness, kindness, unselfish love, and never-ending assistance to all of those in need. Family and friends have indeed experienced a loss but we know and can feel her constant presence amongst us all. "Carry on, as she is telling us and don't feel blue... For I am in heaven now and I want you to be happy too!!! I only came here for awhile... So I could help the world learn how to smile..." Please join family and friends as we honour and remember her life in a Memorial Service on June 14th, 2008 at 3:30pm at the Baptist Cemetery on Pleasant Drive in Minto. Jean Bridget McDonald Jean Bridget (Phee) McDonald, wife of the late George F. Born in Napan, NB, she was the daughter of the late Courtney E. and Mary (Cripps) Phee. She graduated from Commercial Program as St. Michael's Academy in Chatham, NB, following which she was employed at T. Eaton Co. in Moncton, NB, CFB St. Margaret's, NB and Sears in Chatham, NB. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League for 47 Years. She was a loving mother to her two daughters, Theresa (Thomas) Flynn of Chatham and Sandra (Donald) Lobban of Loggieville and loving grandmother to her three grandchildren, Amanda Flynn, Anne Lobban and Mark Lobban. She is also survived by her sister, Anna (Thomas) Power and her brother Edward (Kay) Phee, both of Chatham and sister-in-law, Eileen Phee of Napan and brother-in-law, John Kennedy of Chatham, her loving and caring nieces and nephews as well as several cousins. E.R. JOSEPH DUPUIS 1916 - 2008 E.R. Joseph Dupuis, 91, who resided at 112 Murphy Avenue, Moncton, passed away at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital on Sunday, June 8th 2008 Born in St.-Anselme, he was the son of the late Thomas and the late Annie (née: Landry) Dupuis. Mr. Dupuis was educated at St. Joseph University. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 5 years. For two years of this time, he served in the Middled East as a Flying Officer under the Royal Air Force. After he was transferred to Lion Squadron 427 # 6 Bomber Group based in York. He was on his 39th, trip of his second tour of operations, when peace was declared. After his discharge, he enrolled at the University of New Brunswick and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. After graduation, he was employed in Dolbeau, Arvida and Shawinigan with the Aluminum Company of Canada. While employed in Arvida, he was Commanding Officer of the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Unit (Reserve). He spent thirteen years outside of Canada, seven in Guyana, South America and the rest in Guinée, West Africa, Pakistan and Madagascar. While a consultant on a Hydro Electric Project in Madagascar, he represented Canada, reporting to the Canadian Ambassador in Dar-es-Salaam. He was a Life Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec, a Life Member of the Professional Engineers of New Brunswick, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and RCAF (Reserve). He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two daughters, Annette Zuckerman (Sol) of Montreal and Mary Dupuis of Toronto; three grandchildren; one sister, Leona of Port Elgin; and also a brother, Lorenzo of Greenfield Park, Quebec. By request, no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at the St.- Anselme Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 11th 2008 at 2 pm. Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jane (Babin) Boucher. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Nancy Morton (David) and Patsy Louwe (Jim) both of Oshawa, ON; one brother, Lawrence "Larry" Boucher (Veronica) of Bathurst; four grandchildren, Jesse, Savannah, Bradley and Ryan; several nieces and nephews. GOULD, CATHERINE ELIZABETH (NASH) Catherine Elizabeth Gould (Nash) passed away on June 9, 2008. Cathy, as she preferred to be called, was the eldest daughter of Lorene Allen of Lake George and the late Earl Nash of Maquapit Lake. Cathy is survived by her dear husband of 34 years, John Kenneth Gould of Fredericton; two beautiful and precious daughters, Stephanie Brown (Billy) and Amy Gould at home in Fredericton; a sweet granddaughter, Hailey Catherine Brown; and a new grandson, Chandler Douglas Brown of Fredericton. Cathy is also survived by her dear mother, Lorene and stepfather, Fred Allen of Lake George; four very loving siblings, Peggy Finnegan (Robin) of Fredericton, Brian Nash of Lakeville Corner (Maquapit Lake), Michael Nash (Judy) of Fredericton and Lorena Munn (Derek) of Fredericton; as well as several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Violet Hudlin. Predeceased by her dad, Arthur Earl Nash who she so dearly loved and missed, but will see him again now. Cathy was employed with the Department of Social Development (formerly Department of Family & Community Services) for the past 28 years and made her home in Charters Settlement with Johnny and Amy. KELSAY, William (Bill) Robert February 5, 1936 - June 6, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Kelsay of Calgary at the age of 72 years. Bill's friends and family will miss his passionate joy for life and his gift for story telling. Bill (Billy Bob) was born in Silverton, Texas and spent his childhood in Anthony, New Mexico. As quarterback at Gadsden High School, he led his team through four undefeated seasons and was awarded an athletic scholarship to Colorado School of Mines. Bill received his degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1958 (despite adventures with his Kappa Sig fraternity brothers) and married his high school sweetheart Berwyn McKinney, the same year. After serving in the Army Corps of Engineers, Bill went on to an illustrious career in the oil industry. He worked his way from roughneck to President of Jennings Drilling and retired from Lynx Services in 1992. Bill served as President of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) in 1976 and chaired the committee that produced the First Edition Drilling Manual and the First Edition CAODC Standard Drilling Contract for which he was awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership in the CAODC. Bill was a gifted athlete who loved to ski, golf, and fly-fish. He often shared his love of music through impromptu piano sessions. His "hidden" talent included intricate needlepoint work. Bill strongly believed in furthering oneself through hard work and education. Bill's commitment to family and friends vastly enriched the lives of his children, grandchildren and dear friends. Bill leaves to celebrate his life, daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Dan Hendrick of Whitefish, MT and Dr. Kim Kelsay and Darwin Wasend of Denver, CO. Living his legacy are his grandchildren, Kari and Lisa Hendrick and Matea and Emma Wasend. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Berwyn, and his brother Alvin Kelsay. Lamer Laurent Dr 1931 - 2008 Le docteur Laurent Lamer est décédé paisiblement à l’hôpital Notre-Dame après une longue lutte contre la maladie. Le docteur Lamer a œuvré pendant plus de quarante ans au département d’ophtalmologie de l’hôpital Notre-Dame et à la faculté de médecine de l’Université de Montréal. Durant sa longue carrière, le docteur Lamer a non seulement traité de nombreux patients, il a été l’un des pionniers canadiens de l’utilisation du laser en traitement de la rétine et de l’utilisation de l’ultrason oculaire comme outil diagnostique. En reconnaissance de ses nombreuses contributions à la médecine, le Docteur Lamer a été honoré par le département d’ophtalmologie et la faculté de médecine de l’Université de Montréal qui lui ont octroyé une médaille de carrière. Il rejoint son épouse Céline April, décédée le 10 février 2002.
