Veteran of W.W.II and proud to have been a navigation instructor with the Commonwealth Air Training Plan, Former member of 436 squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war he had a career in the armed Forces. Following his retirement from the Armed Forces he taught Science at Trenton High School for fifteen years. His third career was gardening, a labour of love for him. Alexander will be remembered as a scholar, teacher and a great story teller. DOWN, Vivian Lucy (Seamont) - Vivian, a long time resident of Kipawa, QC, at the age of 94 passed away after a brief illness on June 6, 2008 at the Long Term Facility in Temiscaming. She is survived by eight of her ten children, Linda Morin (Louis), Joan Down, Lloyd Down (Emma), Helen Courchesne (John), Martha Chevrier (Philip), Nancy Nadon (Richard) David Down (Bonnie) Ethel Charette -Down. She was a wonderful grandmother to 28 grand children, 30 great-grand-children, and one great-great granddaughter; as well as aunt and great aunt to many nephews and nieces. Vivian was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Down and her two daughters, Lettie-Marilyn and Joyce and all her sisters seven brothers. Viewing was held at PERRON FUNERAL HOME, Temiscaming on Monday from 2 - 5 pm, 7 - 10 pm & Thursday morning from 9 - 11 am. FITZER, Russell Edwin – Passed away peacefully at Cassellholme on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the age of 86 yrs. Beloved husband of 52 years to Dolores (nee Weiss). He worked as a millwright for Dupont for 29 years and he was a member of the Corona Lodge #454 Burk's Falls as well as the Shriners. BURGESS, J. Arnold Peacefully, on Sunday June 8th 2008, in his 101st year. Arnold Burgess was the devoted and beloved husband of the late Adele Baizana. A doting father to Joanne (Martin Freeman), Margo (Stephen Barrette) and Diane. His daughters will miss his warmth, intelligence and gentle spirit. A proud grandfather to Daniel, Benjamin, Emily and Elizabeth. He is survived by his sister Lois (Sheldon Ross) and many nieces and nephews. Son of the late Albyn Burgess and Susan Mulherin. Predeceased by his brothers Bruce and Bill, and sisters Ola, Dora, Peggy, Joan and Ruth. Arnold Burgess was a native of Grand Falls, New Brunswick, a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University (class of 1928) and a meteorologist with the federal government from 1942 to 1972. CARR, C. Elaine Beloved wife for sixty years of Lt. Gen. (Retired) Bill Carr and adored mother of Virginia, Peter and predeceased son David, Grandmother of Zachary and loving son-in-law Angus, Virginia's husband, at the Elisabeth Bruyere Palliative Care Centre on June 9, 2008. She suffered a heartbreaking bout with untreatable cancer. At Elaine's request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service to Celebrate Elaine's happy and remarkable life will be held at Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa) on Friday, June 13 at 2 p.m. The Service will be conducted by Rev. Eleanor Moreithi, Bill's sister. An opportunity to meet the family will follow the Service. To her family and friends, Elaine was a totally honest, modest, compassionate, very private and caring person of unusual strength, and to her family "The Rock" which held together through twenty-nine moves in the military. During the following thirteen years, she accompanied Bill on his worldwide travels in their new aerospace industry career. In the early Eighties, they chose Amberwood as the place to finally settle down. She participated actively for many years in its community activities, including golf, in which she excelled. Elaine was gifted with a wry sense of humour which, while never biting, was always telling. In every way, she was a beautiful human being, loyal, full of fun, positive and unflinching. Elaine's ashes have been interred in the Family Memorial at Pinecrest Cemetery. In keeping with Elaine's belief that real charity is a blessing, for those who choose it, a donation to the Ottawa Mission in her memory would be appreciated. BUTCHER, Ronald Norman May 17, 1925 - June 9, 2008 Ronald Butcher of Calgary, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Ron, originally from Littleport, England, married Jean Oven in 1948 and moved to Calgary in 1955. Ron worked as a purchasing agent for many years in Calgary with Barber engineering until his retirement. Ron and Jean loved to go bowling and to square dance which they proudly showed off in the 1988 Olympics. Ron also loved photography, and loved to take pictures of nature and his family. Ron also enjoyed travelling, and he and Jean took many trips throughout Canada and Europe. Ron was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Ron was a very family oriented man, who cherished his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. Ron is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Norman Gyulai of Lethbridge, his son Leonard Butcher of Calgary, his grandchildren Patricia Gyulai (Rick Kelly) and John Gyulai, as well as a great-grandson, Caden Kelly. He is also remembered by his brothers and sisters, David, Tony, Christine, Doris, and Mary, all of England. HARRAS-HART, Eva Marie February 10, 1963 - June 6, 2008 Eva Harras-Hart, treasured wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 6, 2008 after a two-year battle with breast cancer. Eva lived a life full of spirit, passion, laughter, love, curiosity and kindness. Born in Oakville, ON, Eva grew up in Winnipeg and moved to Calgary in 1995. We will all sadly miss the loving energy that surrounded her and all that she touched. She was loved by her husband Barry; sons, Jeremy, Nathan and Noah; sister Patti (Peter) Lhotka; brother Mike (Barb) Harras; parents Corleen and Oddie Harras; mother-in-law Ada Hart; sisters-in-law Cheryl Hart and Sandy (Fred) Giles; seven nieces and nephews, and numerous close friends. KERMODE, Douglas George September 22, 1926 - June 7, 2008 Douglas George Kermode passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary at the age of 81 on June 7, 2008. Doug had fought a long and difficult battle with lung disease. Doug is survived by his only brother Richard of Seba Beach; six children, Laurie near Whitecourt, Douglas Jr. of Calgary, Rod of Edmonton, Shelley of Calgary, Valerie of St. Albert and Candace of Calgary (formerly of Prince George); six grandchildren, Rhonda, Chad, Jason, Shane, Hannah, also Kimberly (Merkel). Doug had two great-grandchildren: Gavin and Jacob. He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey in 1993 and his second wife, Rose in 1988. Doug retired after a long and rewarding forty-two year career with Air Canada in 1990. MOSHANSKY-HAMILTON, Marla March 31, 1958 - June 8, 2008 Marla Moshansky-Hamilton passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the age of 50 years in Calgary. Marla was born in Vegreville where she attended school, before moving to Calgary with her family in 1976. She pursued studies at Mount Royal College in Calgary, the University of Alberta, the University of Ottawa and at George Brown College in Toronto. She had a lifelong interest in politics and served in Ottawa as Communications Advisor to the Minister of Finance, and later as Special Assistant to the Minister of Transport/Deputy Prime Minister. She held management positions with high-end ladies wear retail stores in Toronto and Calgary. She was a member of the Canadian Association of Fundraising Professionals and pursued a career as a Professional Fundraiser in Calgary, serving as Manager of Fund Development for the Alberta Literacy Foundation; The Calgary Children's Cottage Society, and on the Steering Committee for the Foothills Hospital fundraising activities. A very caring and compassionate person, she was an active volunteer for several community and charitable organizations including the Calgary Science Centre, where she was a founding member of the Odyssey Circle; the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter; and the Junior League of Calgary. Marla is survived by her daughter, Lauren; and by Lauren's father, Tim Hamilton; her parents, Virgil and June Moshansky; her sisters, Karen (Richard) Dudelzak, and Lynn Moshansky; sister-in-law, Marian Moshansky; nieces, Danielle, Joelle and Madison; and nephew, Alexandre; her aunts, Lillian (Phil) Joy and Lorraine (Dr. Stanley) Kucey; and uncle Robert (Gloria) Moshansky, all of Edmonton; as well as several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Blair in 1998. THERRIEN, André beloved husband, best friend, and soul mate to Claudette (LeCouedic), passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on June 9th, 2008, in his 73rd year. He leaves to cherish his memory his children; Suzanne Doucet (Bill Borgatti); Pauline Gratton (Michel); Marcel; Monique Therrien and his sister Madeleine (Jim Brettell). He was predeceased by his wonderful parents Alphonse and Imelda Therrien; his loving brother Gaston; his caring sister Rachelle and her husband Earl Taylor; his nephew Brian Taylor; adopted brother Raymond; son-in-law Mark Doucet. Andy leaves behind 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that he loved deeply. Andy, born and raised in Welland, spent his early years working for Rosberg's Furniture until their closure. He then went on to work in the Drapery Department at Ross Store. He also worked at the downtown Woodhouse Furniture store. Andy will fondly be remembered as a dependable service technician for Inglis washers and dryers. He took great pride in his diagnostic abilities and a job well done. Andy loved to play darts with his buddies at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch number 4. The family wishes to send special thanks to the wonderful nurses in Minor OR and to Kim and Jocelyn at Paramed. You offered such care and compassion. Finally, we wish to offer a special word of thanks to Dr. Kundi as well as to the staff at the emergency department. The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, 827 East Main Street, Welland, on Friday June 13th, from 2-4pm, and 7-9pm. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. A Funeral Service will take place at the funeral home chapel Saturday June 14th at 10am with Fr. Paul MacDonald officiating.
