MINAKER, Grant P. - Grant's long walk is over. He died peacefully on Saturday May 31, 2008 at the age of 87 with his family at his bedside. Much loved and sadly missed by his wife and best friend of 62 years, Muriel (Burkitt). Lovingly remembered by daughter Lora and her husband Dave Stratton of Brampton, and son Larry and his wife Gerry Tullio of St. Catherines. Loving grandpa to five grandsons: Jamie, Jeremy and Brent Stratton, Daniel and Devin Minaker. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Ethel (Knox) Minaker. The seventh child in a family of ten, Grant is lovingly remembered by his remaining siblings: Bernice Adams, Arthur and wife Marie, Douglas and wife Doris, sister-in-law Barbara Minaker (Everett), and brother-in- law Don Wannamaker (Eileen). Predeceased by siblings Iva Rikley and husband George, Everett, Hazel and husband Andrew, Herbert, Doris Watering and husband Charles, Eileen Wannamaker, and brother-in-law Floyd Adams (Bernice). Fondly remembered by brother-in-law Harry Burkitt and wife Dorothy (and the late Dolores), cousin Clella Canning (and the late Frank) and many nieces and nephews. Grant was a long time resident of Prince Edward County where he farmed and worked for the Ministry of Transportation. He was a resident of Belmont Long Term Care Facility for the past two years. The compassionate care and kindness of staff will always be remembered by his family. It became his home away from home. A special thanks to Dr. Robert Vaughan. Samchek, Daniel James 2008-06-02 Born August 14, 1953 Died May 25, 2008 Passed away at home. He was born in Toronto. Moved to Thunder Bay at a young age and spent all his life living in Fort William. He joined the militia in 1970 and spent nine years with the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment. He was honourably discharged in 1979 because of an injury. He volunteered at the Humane Society, served on the Evergreen Neighborhood Advisory Committee and spent a lot of his time visiting friends at Street Reach Ministries, New Life Christian Fellowship, Northwest Clinic, the Rock Worship Centre, On Eagle‘s Wings and other programs located in and around the Simpson/Ogden Street area. He was also involved with Confederation College and connected with the Lutheran Community Care Centre. He loved to hunt and fish. Predeceased by his father Andrew Samchek, niece Jennifer Barber-Samchek. Survived by brother Andrew Samchek Jr. (Janet) and their sons Michael (Terry) Jason (Shannon) as well as other nephews and nieces. Funeral service will be held at New Life Christian Fellowship, 203 Ogden Street on Wednesday, June 4 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastors Neil Otke and Keith Bunn officiating. Donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice would be appreciated.

DERYNCK, Henry 2008-06-02 The Derynck, Taylor and Balcombe families sadly announce the sudden passing of their dear father, Henry Michael Derynck, aged 82, who went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 29th, 2008. Henry is fondly remembered as a teacher and head of mathematics at Westgate C.V.I. He was also active in the Canadian Navy where he taught navigation and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. Henry had a strong work ethic and was a dedicated Christian. He was a calm, patient man with a unique sense of humour. Henry is predeceased by his wife Lois, parents Camiel and Sidonie and brothers Achiel and Maurice. He is survived by his sister Simone Bird (Harvey), sons David (Susanne) and John (Carol-anne), daughters Kathleen (Peter) and Margaret (Robert) and eight grandchildren. A memorial service for Henry will take place on Friday, June 6th, at 11:00am at Lakehead Baptist Church with Pastor David Kimball officiating. CAPULAK,John 2008-06-02 It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Robert John Capulak announce his tragic passing as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sunday, June 1, 2008. Bob was born on March 26, 1961 in Fort William to Joseph and Amelia Capulak. In his early years Bob attended St. Edward’s School and then Churchill Highschool. Bob was employed at the Thunder Bay Transit, in the maintenance department. He was a devoted husband and father to Margaret and his children Adam and Kaitlyn who were always in his thoughts. He enjoyed camping at Shebandowan, fishing and coaching his children in hockey and was very proud of each of their accomplishments. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret, children Adam and Kaitlyn, parents Joe and Amy Capulak, sister Barb (Brian) Hogan, father-in-law Aime Routhier and mother-in-law Elli Routhier, sister-in-law Alice (Brian) Rayner, brothers-in-law: Donald (Kathy) Routhier, Raymond (Linda) Routhier and Gilbert Routhier. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other family members also surive. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the Sargent & Son Funeral Home 21 N. Court Street with Rev. Dan Lapolla c.s. presiding. A private interment will be held at a later date. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the Lung Association would be appreciated.

CADGER, JAMES The passing of James Cadger, husband of Beverley Cadger, occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on March 5, 1944 in Millerton, NB, he was the son of the late James and Mary M. (Parker) Cadger. Jim was a person who loved the outdoors. He formerly served in the Canadian Armed Forces and was heavily involved in the Scouting Movement. Jim was an Agent Orange Veteran's Advocate and initiated the Neighborhood Watch in his community. Besides his wife, Jim is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Dannie) Seaman of Petite Riviere, NS; one brother, Leigh Cadger of Fredericton, NB; one step-son, Gordon (Karin) Savage of Eastern Passage, NS; one step daughter, Debbie Savage of Fredericton, NB; one grandson, Devan; step grandchildren, Caleigh and Joshua along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by one sister, Darlene Gordon. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 7 to 9pm. A memorial service will take place from York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 7 pm. Interment will take place in the Centennial United Church Cemetery, Nashwaak Village at a later date. HENNESSEY, DANIEL ARTHUR - It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Daniel Arthur Hennessey. After a courageous battle with cancer, Daniel left us on May 30th, 2008, with his loving wife and two sons at his side. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Arthur and Patricia, as well as his brother, Peter. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Donna and their two sons, Riley and Aaron. Daniel also has two sisters, Agnes Lockhart (Scott) and his twin sister, Elizabeth Hennessey. As well, Daniel has many wonderful nieces and nephews. Just shy of his fifty second birthday, Dan had lived more in his lifetime than most do in two. Just a few weeks ago, he was climbing the Rocky Mountains and telling stories of other past trips. He took great pride in having his children with him on his many travelling adventures. Dan was the department head of Resource Education at Simonds High School and held a great passion for teaching students. Throughout his career he took students on GPS adventures to the Irving Nature Park, and school trips to Quebec, Ottawa, and Vancouver. Before joining the Rothesay Yacht Club, Dan and his family spent their summers on the Kingston Peninsula. With his boat the Marionette, Dan was an avid sailor who loved sailing the Saint John River. He had many sailing friends and could often be found spending his summer nights with Donna, rafted up with other boats at Scouts Beach. Dan was well known for his great sense of humour and penchant for story-telling. Whether sailing, teaching, or discussing business news, he was always jovial and had an opinion. Even in his last days, as people crowded into his hospital room, he kept up his wit and spirit and cracked jokes and comments, as only he could. Dan also had a dog - appropriately named, Sailor. Sailor will miss her best bud who took her sailing and to Long Island for walks up and down the beaches and trails. Dan will be resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, on Sunday and Monday, from 2 to 4 PM and again from 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay at 12:30PM on Tuesday, followed by a reception. TAYLOR, Ray - Succumbed peacefully at Rapelje Lodge on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the age of 94. Cherished husband of Elizabeth (Betty) (nee Cassiday) for over 65 years. Loving father of Anthea Gale Stranges (Robert) and David Taylor (Donna). Sadly missed by his grandchildren Marcela Stranges, and Dan and Jordan Taylor. He is also survived by his brother George and was predeceased by his siblings Fred, Stanley, Wilda, Stuart, Wilfred, Calvin, Elgin, Bernard, Irene and Hazel. Mr. Taylor served in the Merchant Marine during WWII. He was later employed with Union Carbide for thirty-five years until his retirement in 1974. Friends may call at J.J. HOVI, Elli Mirjam 2008-06-02 Elli Mirjam Hovi, age 94 years, left this life peacefully with her grand-daughter, Kirsi, by her side on Friday May 30, 2008, on St. Joseph‘s Palliative Care Unit. Elli was born on January 22, 1914, in Valkeala, Finland. She was educated in Kotka, Finland, becoming a hairdresser in 1950 and a certified beautician in 1960. Elli immigrated to Canada with her husband, Arvo, and son, Matti in May 1960 where they made Thunder Bay their life-long residence. She then began working at her sister, Airi‘s beauty salon on Algoma Street for many years. Elli was a respected and well-known figure in the Finnish community. She preserved her heritage by becoming a dedicated member of the Ladies of Kaleva, Ainikin Tupa #55, the Oras Choir, the Ystavyys Club, and Hilldale Lutheran Church. Elli was ever the optimist and had a genuine appreciation for life. She had many passions including her love of nature, gardening, baking, singing, acting, dancing and travelling. Her favourite destinations included Hawaii, the Canary Islands, Finland and numerous Happy Time Tour excursions. She also enjoyed her weekly Pokeno card games with her sister, Maire and several of their close friends. Among her many cherished memories was when she and Arvo spent time fishing at their family camp on Reta Lake. In later years, Elli had many wonderful visits at Matti and Ruth‘s camp on Lake Superior. Elli was a proud and devoted grandmother and role model to Kirsi. Together they formed an especially close bond which grew even stronger through the years. It was just last May that the two of them travelled to Medicine Hat, Alberta to visit Matti and Ruth. Together with her son and grand-daughter, Elli saw the Rocky Mountains in Waterton, Alberta, one last time Elli is lovingly remembered by her son, Matti (Ruth); grand-daughter, Kirsi; sisters, Eva, Finland, Airi (Martti), B.C., and Maire, Thunder Bay; and brother, Eino, Finland. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Elli was predeceased by her husband, Arvo (1997); parents, Hilda (1963) and Eemil (1937); sister, Hilkka (2001); and brother, Martti (1976). A Celebration of Elli‘s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday June 5, 2008, at Hilldale Lutheran Church with Minister Jari Lahtinen officiating. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place with a private interment to follow. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. DEL BEN, Dino Louis - In loving memory of Dino Del Ben 67 years of Sudbury who passed away Saturday May 31st, 2008 at the SRH-Laurentian Site. Dino was born in Cimpello, Pordenone, Italy and married Nancy (Miller) in 1967 in North Bay. A longtime and well liked West End resident Dino had taught at St. Charles College for over 30 years retiring in 1997. He was a passionate math teacher who embodied the St. Charles College Motto “Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge“ in his values and priorities. He was a dedicated football and basketball coach for many seasons winning numerous championships and encouraging his players always to do their best. He was a devout Roman Catholic who attended Our Lady of Hope Church. He was a life member of the Caruso Club. He enjoyed traveling, reading, walking and socializing with his friends. Dino was devoted to his loving family. Dino will be remembered as a real champion whether in the classroom, on the court or field or at the cancer center. Dino always gave his best, he never gave up and the light of his life will continue to inspire all who loved him. Beloved husband of Nancy (Miller) Del Ben of Sudbury. DOSMAN, Mrs Patricia L. - Peacefully at the Thessalon Hospital on Sunday June 1, 2008. Pat Dosman of R.R.#3 Thessalon in her 80th year, beloved wife of Leonard Dosman of R.R.#3 Thessalon. Loving mother of Keith L. Dosman ( Gayle ) of R.R.#3 Thessalon and George W. Dosman ( Monica ) of Wellesley. Dear daughter of the late Roy ad Lillian Wingfelder. Special grandmother to Jacob, Shannon, Tonya and Ryan and great grandmother to Cooper and Lexie. Dear sister of Rita Agnew ( Al ) of Burlington, Dorothy Wingfelder ( late Ken ) of Kitchener, Doreen Richards ( late Jim ) of Placerville California, Joe Wingfelder ( Flo ) of Mississauga, Len Wingfelder ( Marge ) of St Catharines and the late Bernice Weber ( late Arsenius ). Dear sister-in-law of Helen McKinley ( late Donald ) of Brantford, Annette Moffatt ( Jim ) of Belleville, Alfred Dosman ( late Irene ) of Mildmay and the late Joan James ( late Harold ), Josephine Lifeso ( late Charlie ), Marie Daley ( late Tex ) and Donald Dosman ( late Patricia ). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Resting at the BEGGS FUNERAL HOME, Thessalon where friends may call on Tuesday June 3, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral mass at St Ambrose Catholic Church, Thessalon on Wednesday June 4, 2008 at 10 o'clock. Cremation.
