FAUBERT, Lena 2008-05-20 Mrs. Lena Faubert died peacefully at Nipigon District Hospital on May 17th, 2008. Lena was born on July 11th, 1911 in Sant‘Elpidio A Mare, Italy. Her parents immigrated to Canada where they settled in Jackfish, Ontario. She later moved to Nipigon where she ran Jorgensen‘s Confectionery out of her little white house on Sixth Street. Lena was happiest in her garden. She also enjoyed a good barbecued hot dog and a bag of chips. She was predeceased by her first husband Aage Jorgensen in 1955, second husband Len Faubert in 1988, daughter Marlene in 2002 and son Gary in 2004. Left to mourn her passing are her beloved granddaughter Karlee, daughter-in-law Bev Jorgensen, sister-in-law Evelyn Falzetta, loving nephew Tom Falzetta, special friend and neighbour Edie Finlayson, family friends Cathy Martin and Warren Manning, and the very caring nurses and staff at Nipigon District Hospital. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral Mass for the late Mrs. Lena Faubert will be held on Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 at 11:30am at St. Dominic‘s Church, (Redwood Avenue) Thunder Bay, Ontario celebrated by Rev. Dan Lapolla c.s. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in St. Andrew‘s Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Nipigon District Hospital Long Term Care Unit would be greatly appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Lena Faubert in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 28, 2009.

GRILLOS, Virginia (Zucchiatti) 2008-05-20 Virginia Grillos (Zucchiatti), 89 years, of Victoria, British Columbia, passed away May 3, 2008 after a long illness. Virgina moved from Fort Frances to Thunder Bay and resided here for many years before moving out west. Viriginia was predeceased by her husband Peter, mother Angelica Marius Zucchiatti, father Umberto Zucchiatti, stepmother Marianne DePiero, brothers Augusto, Joe and Louis Zucchiatti, and sister Anne Hoffman. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Virgina‘s memory to the Thunder Bay Alzheimer‘s Society, or charity of their choice.

GERLITZ, Diane Mildred July 29, 1937 - May 13, 2008 On Tuesday, May 13, 2008, our beloved cousin, Diane Mildred Gerlitz, passed away. Born and raised in Calgary, Diane was predeceased by her parents, Conrad and Mildred (Kraft) Gerlitz and her infant sister Beverley. As a young adult, Diane lived in Santa Monica, California. She loved boating, tennis, theatre, movies and travel. In addition to Canada and the United States, she visited Mexico, the UK and Europe. Hawaii was a favorite. Diane returned to Calgary, and began a successful career with Mobil Oil Canada, where she retired as a Senior Land Administrator. Diane had a quick sense of humor and lived her life with grace and dignity. She enjoyed her extended family, especially the children. Diane will be remembered fondly by her cousins, their families and her life-long friends in the Calgary area. The family wishes to thank Dr. John Nesbitt, Dr. Ronald B. Hons, and Dr. V. Ramanna. CLARK, Fay Elaine At the Maplewood Manor in Alberton on Sunday, May 18, 2008, with her family by her side, of Fay Elaine Clark, beloved wife of the late J. Erskine Clark of Alberton, age 81 years. Born in O’Leary on February 2, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Charlotte (nee Gay) Ellis. Lovingly remembered by her children, David (Bonita) of Cascumpec, Anne (Late David) Bernard of Summerside and Donna Clark (Allan Bagnall) of Halifax, N.S. She is also survived by two step-sons, Bill (Linda) Clark of Cobble Hill, B.C. and Fred (Carol) Clark of Houston, Texas. Dear grandmother to 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Alder (Kristinanna) Clark of Surrey, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Erskine Clark in 1994, a son in David Bernard, step-grandson James Clark as well as two sisters, Jessie (late James) Silliker and Birdie (late George) Coughlin. Carol‘s interests included singing in the church choir, baking, gardening and her cat. PILATO, Pietro 2008-05-20 Mr. Pietro Pilato, age 69 years, passed away peacefully in hospital on Friday May 16, 2008 with family by his side. Pietro was born on December 12, 1938 in Napoli, Italia to Maria Tudisco and Raffaele Pilato. He received his degree in Fine Arts and majored in Monument Restoration in Firenze, Italia. By trade he was a Blacksmith. Pietro owned Fabro Mechanico, a mechanical fabrication shop in Napoli. In Canada he practiced his blacksmith trade and worked as a construction welder. On November 11, 1963 Pietro married the love of his life Linda Galluccio. He was an inventor with a passion for learning and teaching. Pietro is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda. Two sons Raffaele (Adriana) and Bartolo (Corinne) and his grandchildren Giulia and Peter the joys of his life. Sister Francesca Delduca in Italy. Iacobucci family, Chiarelli family, and Delorenzi family and friends in Thunder Bay and Italy. He was predeceased by his parents Maria and Raffaele Pilato, sister Anna and brothers Antonio and Criscenze. MACKINNON, Robert Joseph 2008-05-20 Mr. Robert Joseph Mackinnon, 74 years, of Red Rock, Ontario passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Carlingview Manor, Ottawa, Ontario. Bob taught at Nip-Rock High School for thirty-five years. He was principal there when he retired and over the years coached both the boys‘ and girls‘ basketball teams. Bob was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus member of Council #4247 Red Rock and was a past District Deputy. He also served as a member of Red Rock Town Council and of St. Hilary‘s Parish Council. Predeceased by his parents – Edmund and Mildred Mackinnon, by two daughters in infancy – Margaret and Katherine and by two brothers – Donald and Edmund Mackinnon; he is survived by his wife Lorraine (nee Lynch) of Red Rock, by two children – Mary Mackinnon (& Alan Kurtz) and Michael Mackinnon (& and his wife Rita Kloosterman) both of Ottawa, by one grandson Liam Mackinnon and by three siblings – John Mackinnon and Elizabeth (& Tom) Charlton both of Ottawa and Ernest Mackinnon of Kitchener, Ontario. Numerous other relatives also survive. According to Bob‘s wishes cremation has taken place. KOWALCZK, BRONISLAWA 2008-05-20 Bronislawa (Bernice), 92 years of age, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Aurora-Resthaven, Aurora, Ontario on April 27, 2008. A long time resident of Thunder Bay, Bernice was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1949, with her husband Stefan and son, Richard. She was predeceased by Stefan, on November 11, 1983. Bernice was very active within her community - a member of the Polish Legion, the Polish Combatants Association, the Women‘s Auxiliary of St. Mary‘s, Our Lady Queen of Poland, Catholic Church. She owned and operated Bernice‘s Restaurant for many years. In 1997, she moved to Aurora to be closer to her sons. Bernice is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Bette of Newmarket, Ontario; her son, Ted and his wife, Mary of Parry Sound, Ontario, and grandchildren, Kevin and his wife, Jacki (Toronto), Anthony (Winnipeg) and Kasha (Toronto). An evening mass with intentions will be held at Our Lady Queen of Poland Catholic Church, Friday May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. Service to be conducted by Father Ireneusz Stadler. Internment and vigil will take place Monday, May 26th at St. Andrew‘s Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association will be gratefully appreciated.

KARLSONS, John 2008-05-20 Mr. John Karlsons, age 89 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2008 at Versa Care Centre. John was born on February 12, 1919 in Taurkalne, Latvia. He immigrated to Canada in 1948, and worked in the bush camps for Kimberly Clark in Schreiber until his retirement in 1985. Fishing with family and close friends was a favourite pass time. The solitude and quietness of the lake was ideal. He loved gardening and his tomato plants were always the biggest and best. John is survived by his loving family Andy and Lory Ulmanis, Tamara Corsie (B.C.), Tammy Otto, Shelley and Neil Stewardson, Marjorie Ulmanis, Lisa and Scott Corsie (both of B.C.), Sheleigh, Glen and Steven Dika, Ashley (Waterloo, Ontario) and Nolan Stewardson, and Preston, Pam (both of Schreiber, Ontario) and Jim McKeever (B.C.). He is predeceased by Helen Ulmanis and Corey Hakli. Funeral services for the late Mr. John Karlsons will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday. HACKETT, James Richard 2008-05-20 March 25/55 - April 28/08 It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of their beloved husband and father, Jim Hackett, age 53 years. Jim was born in Chatham, Ontario and as a young man moved to Fort Frances where he met and married his wife Judy (nee Richardson). In 1978 Jim and Judy moved to Terrace Bay, Ont. where he was employed by Kimberly Clark now known as Terrace Bay Pulp, Inc. until his untimely passing. Jim loved the outdoors, he spent many winters skidooing and camping with his family and friends on Otisse Lake and his summer months with his wife and children at camp at Hydro Bay on Lake Superior. His true calling was carpentry. On his days off you‘d find him helping friends, neighbours or relatives with home renovations or some sort of construction. Jim‘s greatest love was his family whom he talked of with great pride. He was predeceased by his father John Klein, his mother Charlotte (Pawlak) and his stepfather Ken Hackett. Jim is survived by his loving wife Judy, son Bryan and daughter Breanne (Shane) Gallagher, and his best pal Codie, all of Terrace Bay. Also survived by 3 brothers, John (Barb) of Terrace Bay. Phillip (Brenda) of Ingersol, Ontario and youngest brother Alan of London, Ontario. Jim was a very special and unique person. He will always be loved and missed by family and friends. A Celebration of Jim‘s life was held at St. Andrew‘s United Church in Schreiber with Pastor Roberta Beyer officiating on Friday, May 2nd, 2008.

BRAYSHAW (nee Lebel), Jean 2008-05-20 1930-2008 Jean Brayshaw made her final journey to the Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2008. She has joined the love of her life, her husband, William (Bill) Brayshaw. Her family and church were her life. An active, devoted member of St. Michael‘s Anglican Church, she served as past warden, reader, and Eucharist assistant with over 50 years service in the A.C.W. (Life Member). She enjoyed the summer home at Shebandowan Lake, sailing, swimming, playing cards and Scrabble. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her wide circle of friends and family for her generous spirit. Survived by her children Laurel Harrison (Brian) Iroquois Falls, Linda Couture (Ben) Calgary, Barbara Fontaine (Richard) Thunder Bay, Dale Tonts (Ron) North Vancouver, and Ernie Brayshaw (Kay) Thunder Bay. Fils de Dorice Manseau et d'Alphonsine Grenier, il naquit à Saint-Camille (Wolfe), le 2 janvier 1916. RANDALL, LLOYD MELVIN The passing of Lloyd Melvin Randall of Mazerolle Settlement, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 18th, 2008 at the age of 98. Born in Ripples NB, he was a son of the late Bruce William and Hessie Randall (Hargrove). Lloyd is survived by his son, Vernon (Judy) of Mazerolle Settlement; four grandchildren, Ross (Sandra), Lynn (Collin), Ellen (Roy) all of Mazerolle Settlement and Tim (Lynn) of Hanwell; and by 10 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Ella Burgoyne; and a son, Melvin; brothers, Arnold, Gordon, Wallace and Russell; sister, Ruby. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Visitation to take place at the Holy Family Church on Wednesday May 20th at 6 PM. The Funeral will take place immediately following at 7 PM with Father Jack Dolan Officiating. MILLS, KATHLEEN S. - JOGGINS NS - It is with sadness that the family of Kathleen S. Mills announces her passing at South Cumberland Community Care Centre in Parrsboro, NS on May 17, 2008, where she had been residing since August of 2006. Daughter of the late Patrick and Daisy (Belliveau) Terrio, Kathleen was born on August 30th, 1915 in Joggins where she lived for 90 years. She was married for nearly 62 years to the late Arthur J. Mills, who predeceased her in 1997. Kathleen devoted her married life to her husband and their four children. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her fantastic cooking abilities. She loved gardening, especially flowers, and everything flourished under her care. She was also an avid reader. Most of her life was spent at home raising her children with the exception of a period of ten years when she worked at the local grocery store after her children left home. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all her family. She was a devoted Catholic, and said her rosary everyday and was very upset if on occasion she would forget. Kathleen is survived by two sons, Bill (Alma), Joggins, NS, Gerard, Saint John, NB; two daughters, Yvonne Belliveau (Reg), Saint John, NB, Jeanette McKinnon (Gilbert), Quispamsis, NB. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred (Myrtle) Terrio, Joggins; several in-laws; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; her parents; brothers, Elmer and Kenneth Terrio and sisters Rita Dujay and Alice LeBlanc. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father David MacDonald at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Joggins on May 20, 2008 at 2 pm, followed by burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. HICKS, DR. ERIC S. - A much loved father and grandfather went home to be with his Lord on May 19, 2008 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home. Dr. Eric Sankey Hicks of Sussex, at the age of 85. He was the husband of the late Helen B. (DuPlessis) Hicks who passed away in 2005. Born at Hicksville, NB a son of the late Ira and Edith (Frazee) Hicks. Dr. Hicks was a Veterinarian in the Village of Gagetown and then Sussex. He was a faithful member of the Sussex Baptist Church, a Pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force and a Sunday Superintendent for 25 years and served on many boards, such as; the Canadian Association of the Mentally Challenged, Crosswinds, Atlantic Baptist College, Crisis Pregnancy Centre and the Veterinary Medical Association. He is survived by his daughters, Ena Perkins (Gary) and Barbara Martin (Paul); grandchildren, Tim Hicks, Kinda Kealy-Howland (David), Marianne Killam (Matthew) and Heather Hines (Jason); great-grandchildren, Sonya, Alicia and Adam Killam; sisters, Eileen Hall, New Hampshire and Leah Fowler, Ontario; and brother, Talmage Hicks, Moncton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife; son, David; sisters, Henrietta Berg and Iris Fowler; and brothers, Graydon, Guy and Lorne. MELISSA LESLIE 1989 - 2008 Melissa Leslie, 18, of Dieppe, passed away after a brief illness at her home surrounded by those who loved her, on Monday, May 19th, 2008. Born in Moncton, NB, she was the daughter of Brent and Rita (née: Hébert) Leslie. She graduated from Moncton High in 2007 and was a student at St.Francis Xavier University fall of 2007. Beside her parents, Brent and Rita, she is survived by her sister, Rebecca at home; her paternal grandfather, Boyd Leslie (Christine Neeld) of Crapaud, PEI; her maternal grandmother, Yvonne Hébert of Dieppe; her paternal great grandmother, Benita Leslie of Dieppe; and her boyfriend, Travis Perry of Moncton. Melissa will be missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. She was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Arlene in 1998 and her maternal grandfather, Clovis Hébert in 1991. Elizabeth (Betty) Fitzpatrick 1924 - 2008 Elizabeth (Betty) Fitzpatrick Flanagan (1924-2008) passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care unit of the Prince Edward Home in Charlottetown after a long, courageous struggle with cancer. Born in Clayton, Ontario on January 24,1924 she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Edith Edwards. Betty served in World War II, and worked for many years as a nurse's aide at the Mount Saint Joseph Extended Care Unit in Chatham, New Brunswick. Betty is survived by two sons, Bill Fitzpatrick (Cheryl) of Ottawa and Bob Fitzpatrick (Sheila) of Fredericton; a daughter, Carole Fitzpatrick Clark (Greg) of Charlottetown; one daughter in law, Jacqueline Fitzpatrick of Toronto; and one brother, Ray Edwards of Trenton Ontario. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Sean and Lee Ann, Craig and Jennifer, Kyle and Cassandra, one great grandchild, Gabriella; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; two brothers, John and Freddy; three sisters, Maisie, Dorothy and Ruth; Her eldest son, Barry Fitzpatrick; and two loving husbands, John Fitzpatrick (1971) and Edmund Flanagan (1990). Richard A. Comeau 1914 - 2008 Richard A. Comeau, 94, of St. Louis de Kent, NB, passed away at La Villa Maria, St. Louis de Kent, on Monday, May 19, 2008. Born in Claire-Fontaine, Richard was the son of the late Adolphe Comeau and the late Sarah (Kelly) Comeau. Richard had worked for the D.O.T. and had also been a Fisherman. Jocelyne M. Carmichael 1959 - 2008 Jocelyne Carmichael, 49 passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Sunday May 18, 2008 after a brief illness. Born in Quebec, daughter of Annette (Chassé) and the late André Duff. Member of 8th Canadian Hussars. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Brian; daughters, Jennifer, Brianna and Emily.
