POLNICKY, Frank Henry 2008-05-20 POLNICKY ~ FRANK HENRY Frank Henry Polnicky passed peacefully at the Waverly Nursing Home in Chilliwack, BC on Friday, May 9, 2008 in his 89th year. Loving and devoted husband and best friend for 66 years of wife Margaret. Dear father of Orla Nicklom of Chilliwack and Wynn Polnicky of Carleton Place, Ontario. Cherished grandfather of Erika and Jeremy Nicklom and Lessa, Aleksandr and Erich Polnicky. Dear brother in law of Mary Polnicky. Predeceased by his 3 brothers and 7 sisters. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Interment has taken place at the Vedderview Cemetery in Chilliwack. KOSKI, Vilho Augusti 2008-05-20 VILHO AUGUSTI KOSKI Mr. Vilho Augusti Koski passed away peacefully at the age of 93 with family by his side, in the early morning hours of a spring day, on Saturday May 17, 2008 at the TBRH. He was born in Ylistaro, Finland on March 22, 1915. He began courting his life’’s partner, Mirjam (Pihlajamaki) at a traditional summer festival and in December 1938 they were engaged. Together they travelled to a larger town to purchase a small grandfather clock to commemorate that engagement. They were married on March 5, 1939. The clock, which has never stopped working, still hangs on the wall today, as they would have celebrated 70 years of their commitment to one another in December of this year. They began their journey together, he with their farmland, and she with their six-week old first born son, when he was called to serve in the Finnish Army. Although he served with pride, he never much wished to speak of the war, as it saddened him profoundly that it took him away from his home and young family. In 1958, he took his family and emigrated to Port Arthur to seek a better life, like so many did at that period of time. He worked for Domtar Woodlands as a feller until his retirement in 1980. After retiring, he enjoyed his long-awaited trip back to Finland to revisit his roots and large extended family. He was a long-time member of Hilldale Lutheran Church (formerly the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church) and did what he could to see that the church would be there for all the next generations to come. He was an unpretentious, quiet man who had an abiding faith in God. His home and family were always his one and only priority. After working away from home all week, he would continue fixing, repairing things around his home or on his second enjoyment, the summer camp. He had a strong will to live and thus as he got older, he was immensely joyful and thankful to God as he marked another birthday celebration. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mirjam of 69 years; 3 children Mauri (Laila), Meeri (Uolevi) Makinen, Minna (Peter) Novak; daughter-in-law Ritva Koski; 8 grandchildren Liisa (Mark) Bourdages, Irene (Ken) Decorte, Tarja (Mika) Keski-Pukkila, Kyllie (Marko) Makinen, Anne (Johnny) Turuba, Tina (Patrick) Larocque, Wayne Koski, Sari (Alan) Edwards as well as 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Predeceased by his mother and father at an early age, his 5 brothers, 2 sisters and his beloved son Markku in 2001. If friends so wish, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Hilldale Lutheran Church, which was close to his heart. Funeral services for the late Mr. Vilho Koski will be held on Thursday May 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hilldale Lutheran Church, 321 Hilldale Rd. with Rev. Jari Lahtinen officiating. DAVID, Marie 2008-05-20 The family is sad to announce that Mrs. Marie David age 76 years, formerly of Wildrose Road passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday May 17th, 2008. Born and raised in Mattice, Ontario she met and married her husband Pat there and together they raised their family. In 1967 they moved to Beardmore for 10 years and then on to Thunder Bay in 1977. Marie had worked as a Cooke in various Abitibi Bush Camps where her husband Pat was also working including Camps 40, 230, 300 and 153. She retired in 1991 following her husbands passing and the closure of Abitibi. Marie loved the time she was able to spend at home and with her family. She enjoyed playing cards and socializing with friends. Marie will be loving remembered as the center of the family and a very devoted mother by her children Roger (Wanda), John, Robert (Cindy), Linda (Bruce) McDonald, Laureen (Darryl) Ward, grandchildren Scott, Patti, Sally, Jeanita, Kevin, Tracy, Nicole, Jessica, Christopher, Terah, Kyle, Jennifer and Nathan, 9 great grandchildren, her siblings Pauline, Rachel and Raymond. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Pat, a son in infancy Marc, her daughter Diane, her parents Leopald and Yvonne Morin and her siblings Ovilla, Doris and Armand. Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Marie David will be held on Thursday May 22nd, 2008 at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew‘s Roman Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Peter Groulx. CARRICK, Barbara Joan Born in Bolton, Lancashire on April 4, 1920, passed away peacefully in Ottawa on May 19, 2008. Predeceased by siblings Gordon, Kathleen and Anne. Lovingly remembered by her son Stephen (Dawn), she will be sadly missed by her granddaughters Gillian (Andrew), Deborah and Emily. Barbara proudly served in the WRNS during World War II, in India and Ceylon where she met and married a Canadian RCAF officer. She subsequently enjoyed a successful teaching career as a high school teacher with the North York Board of Education and as Professor Emeritus at Ryerson University. WHITE, Laura L. (nee Thornburrow) 2008-05-20 Laura White passed away peacefully at Saint Joseph’s Hospital on Friday, May 16, 2008, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was a dedicated and loving mother, daughter and friend who was devoted to her two daughters and to her teaching career. Laura was born on November 12, 1954 in Fort William to Larry and Gloria Thornburrow. Following her graduation with honours from FWCI, Laura attended Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario where, during her third year of studies, she traveled to Aix en Provence, France, to study French. After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree, she traveled to Bonneville and Nice in France to work as an Au Pair. The following year, she returned to Canada and earned her Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa. Laura enjoyed her career as a French Immersion teacher and dedicated herself to her students and to her profession. She made a lasting impact on the lives of many of her students at Kingsway Park School, Agnew H. Johnson, and Ecole Gron Morgan. Not only did Mme. White instill a love of learning in her students but she also shared her love of music, acting as a choir director at each school. Laura will truly be missed by her family and her many friends and colleagues. During her battle with cancer and throughout her entire life, she inspired us all with her courage, optimism and tireless determination. Laura is survived by her daughters Kaitlin and Danielle, parents Larry and Gloria Thornburrow, brothers Michael (Susan), Christopher (Sarah), David (Sherry), sister Elizabeth (Craig), nieces, nephews, and cousins, her grandmother Beatrice Humphreys Sinclair, and aunts and uncles Bill and Barbara Thornburrow, Morley and Roberta Thornburrow, and Norris and Velva Humphreys. A celebration of Laura‘s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Westfort Chapel, 420 Gore Street West at James. LANNON, George Joseph Walter 2008-05-20 1915-2008 George J. Walter Lannon took his last breath peacefully on May 17th at St. Joseph‘s Hospital with his son Art by his side. George raised five children with Cecile Simone Lannon (nee Gratton). He is predeceased by son Paul, grandson Marty, and is survived by sisters Evelyn and Grace, children Cathi, Art, Valerie and Robert, plus nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. George was born April 29, 1915 in a log cabin in Fauquier, near Kapuskasing, where he attended school until the age of 12. As a true life-long learner, he completed his high school at the age of 87. This enabled him to hand write a 50-page memoir. His early years of work included time in logging camps and general stores in the Kapuskasing, Kirkland Lake, and Timmins areas. He and Cecile moved to Thunder Bay in 1945 when he began managing the Reward Shoe Stores. In 1950, he and two partners established Willport Realty, and George went on to establish a highly successful career in the real estate and development industry. He founded Lannon Realty, Shore Bay Construction, and later Langratt Limited. He was an avid hunter and fisher, with a particular love of the Lac des Milles Lacs area. But George pursued a wide variety of other hobbies. While he especially enjoyed pottery and gardening, over the years he studied geology, gemology, lapidary, water colour painting, and cooking. George saw it as his civic duty to enter public life and, therefore, served as a school trustee, ran for city council, and was a Director of Education for the Ontario Real Estate Association. Having the traveler‘s bug, he pursued adventures throughout Europe and North America. Upon his retirement, George entered into volunteer work with a number of international aid agencies. In this role he travelled to the Philippines and Nepal. To the end of his life, he retained close contact with members of the local Philippine community. George was a quiet man who will be fondly remembered as strong, resourceful and generous. His determination led him from abject poverty to becoming an ambitious and successful entrepreneur. But he never forgot his roots and demonstrated compassion and support for those less fortunate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the International Association for Transformation, Box 30090 Saanich Centre, Victoria BC Z8X 5E1, or to St. Joseph‘s Hospital. A special thanks to the nursing staff and other caregivers who created a caring and comfortable environment throughout his final days. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Friday May 23rd, 12 noon in the Valhalla Hotel ballroom. A tree will be planted in memory of George Lannon in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. DEINES, Margaret Alice April 26, 1926 - May 17, 2008 Margaret Alice Deines, beloved wife of Alvin for sixty-five years, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Margaret was a native Calgarian. She met and married the love of her life Alvin when she was seventeen years old. Margaret was dedicated to her family and enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time in the mountains and at the "Ranch" hiking, fishing, bird watching and identifying flowers. She also enjoyed the many winter trips to Maui. Besides her loving husband Alvin, Margaret is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Del Fitzsimmons of Calgary, and Gwen and Peter Fargey of Edmonton; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Margaret is also survived by her sister Lillian Dirrane, brother and sister-in-law, Syd and Marilynne Keen, all of Calgary; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. CROWCHILD, Rupert October 16, 1940 - May 16, 2008 Rupert is survived by his beloved children, Leanne Crowchild, Blaine Crowchild, granddaughter, Karley Crowchild, and predeceased by his late son, Wesley Crowchild. He is also survived by his parents, Violet and Harold Crowchild, brothers and sisters, Harley Crowchild, Regina Noel, Calvin Crowchild, Vera Marie Crowchild, Sandra Crowchild, Jim Meguinis, Diane Meguinis, Pauline Jacobs, Karen Meguinis, Donna Meguinis. - That Old Stetson Hat Is Now Retired - Rupert is now in the loving hands of our creator to join his late son, Wesley Crowchild. Rupert was a hardworking man throughout his life and lived life on his terms. Although Rupert was a solitary man, he dearly loved his children Leanne, Blaine, late Wesley and his cherished granddaughter Karley. He was very proud of his children's accomplishments and taught his children to be self-sufficient and hard working adults. His granddaughter Karley loved coming out to visit him on his ranch to spend time doing things together. She was a special joy to him and a last remaining connection to his late son Wes. Rupert had a special bond with his mother Violet and could be seen most days visiting her. Rupert ranched all his life on the Tsuu T'ina Nation. His passion for the western way of life can be seen in his past endeavours through his early years in rodeo. He later raised cattle and horses for various reasons but one of his most enjoyable pastimes was raising bucking stock and seeing the fruits of his labour when he would sell an occasional horse that made it to the National Finals. His love for this way of life never ceased; he continued to tend to his ranch and his horses in his later years up to the end. Rupert lived life to the end doing what he loved the most and that was riding his horses. Rupert left many relatives behind too numerous to mention. He will be sadly missed by his family. He leaves behind his dear children, Leanne (Dave), Blaine; granddaughter, Karley; daughter-in-law, Kelli Wiese; mother, Violet Crowchild; father, Harold Crowchild; brothers and sisters, Harley Crowchild (Mildred), Regina Noel, Calvin Crowchild, Vera Marie Crowchild (Sid), and Sandra Crowchild. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Gilbert Crowchild (Pam), Darrell Crowchild (Rhonda), Jackie Manossa, Coreen Big Crow (Wilfred), Mona Crowchild, Jenny Saulteaux, Leona Onespot (Christopher), Greg Noel, Chico Noel, Rossi Crowchild, Dawn Smallboy (Lorne), Kelly Crowchild (Elmer), Nadine Crowchild, Ginger Crowchild (Dave), Emmet Crowchild (Dana), Shane Crowchild. ROBINSON, Garnet 2008-05-20 In loving memory of Garnet Robinson, 87, who passed away peacefully with his family by is side on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Manitoulin Health Center, Little Current. Beloved husband of Alice Robinson (nee Moreau), loving father of Sandra Koehler (Bill), Donald (Donna), Jennifer Kategiannis (Peter), adoring grandfather to Jason Koehler (Gillian) and Catherine Koehler, Alexander and Zachary Kategiannis. Special great-grandfather to Sydney and Jack Koehler. Also surviving are sisters Audrey Bolduc, Verlie Umpherson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Donald and Mansel Robinson and sisters Elsie Vaiu and Leitha Pellow. Garnet was born and raised in Chapleau, Ontario. He worked as a brakeman for the CPR. He also owned and operated the Kenogami Hunting & Fishing Lodge in Nemegos, Ontario for nearly twenty enjoyable years. Garnet and his family also lived in Thunder Bay from 1964 until moving to Manitoulin Island in 1985 where he remained until his passing. Garnet shared his love of the outdoors and the wilderness with his children. As a young man, he loved to hunt and fish and play his fiddle. In his later years, he was an avid hockey fan and also enjoyed playing the stock market. Garnet will always be remembered as a man who thrived on hard work. His lively sense of humour and being surrounded by his loved ones. Cremation has taken place and a service honouring his memory will be held at a later date.

CORMIER, ALBERT EDGAR "AB" - Mr. Albert Edgar "Ab" Cormier of Barbara Dr. Sussex Corner passed away on May 16, 2008 at the age of 80. He was the son of the late Ernest and Leda (Dubee). Ab is survived by his wife Germaine; his daughter, Patricia Michaud (Donnie) of Sept Isle, PQ; three sons, Brian (Louise) of Truro, Kevin (Joanne) of Sussex Corner and Collin (Gitane) of Quebec City; eleven grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Susan Bancroft Glenn 1944 - 2008 Susan Bancroft Glenn passed away peacefully after a sudden illness at the Halifax Infirmary on Friday, May 16, 2008.
